So, life update, I'm kind of in quarantine rn. I still have to do most of my coursework but I mainly just have to not go insane, which is why you guys are getting so much content rn, like my new story, Love Languages, which you should absolutely go read. :)
I know a lot of people are doing no-content November and they're right, people shouldn't be such asshats about free content, and fan-artists should be paid for commissions (shout out to Barely-Nok on Tumblr who has done paid fanart for Stardust Angel). However, I am going to go insane in my little shell if I do not create and put out content so I'm not doing no-content November. If you are, I'm proud of you, you're awesome, have an awesome month, if you aren't, I'm proud of you, you're awesome, have an awesome month.
"So do you have any siblings?" Morgan looked up from staring deep down into her coffee and realizing that Ian was making small talk. She'd had a lot on her mind since Seth told her about losing their job and so it was a little difficult to focus on her own.
"Oh, yeah, I have a half-sister." Morgan ran a hand through her hair trying not to focus on how much that was going wrong in the world right now. She was still upset that Seth didn't think she could help because helping Seth was literally the only thing she wanted to do.
"Yeah, I also have a half-sister. Good kid, around your age. Anyway here's your task for the day, if you're done with your coffee I'm gonna need my mug back, but if you want to bring in your own mug or thermos tomorrow, feel free."
"Right. Thanks." Morgan left her mug with Ian and set to work but her mind was still on Seth, and, more importantly, proving Seth wrong. Morgan was going to help, whether or not Seth wanted her to.
Seth had come up with several reasons why losing their job was not actually a bad thing, mostly to put Morgan at ease.
"I'll have time to recover."
"I hated that job."
"I'll have time to take care of the apartment."
"I'll have time to work on your wings."
"I'll have time for a legitimate career search, this is my chance to really turn my life around."
And Seth was right, but that didn't mean that Seth's manager hadn't been out of line and vengeance wasn't necessary. So Morgan was feeling vengeful. And Morgan wasn't entirely alone.
Morgan hadn't talked to Seth about this. Hadn't told Seth that she was taking the wings out, didn't want to wait for approval, or endure an interrogation. So she dressed in the hallway when she thought Seth was asleep and took off in the night. The store wasn't that hard to find, it was where Morgan regularly did her grocery shopping due to Seth's employee discount. Seth still had friends at their former job that were willing to give them an employee discount. They were planning on going shopping there, potentially for the last time, in a few days when Seth was more recovered and could clean out their locker.
But Morgan was here now, not for lockers or bags of sugar or anything that they might need right now. Morgan was here for revenge. Unfortunately, she'd been too angry to form a plan and had just taken flight aimlessly.
"Out on night patrol?" Morgan jumped, twirling to see Fredzilla standing before her.
"Yeah! Night Patrol!"
"Seeing the full outfit, up close? It's really nice. I'm rethinking some of my name ideas."
"I like Angel of Vengeance."
"That's not why you're really here, right, Morgan?"
"What? No, of course not."
"I know this is the place that fired Seth."
"Seth told you about that?"
"It came up. They wanted me to keep an eye on you, make sure no Angel of Vengeance came to smash windows."
"Damn it, Seth is smarter than me."
"I'm not surprised. Wait, that came out wrong, sorry, I mean, I know you're really smart, obviously, or you wouldn't have been able to rob Krei, which you shouldn't do anymore but, well-" Fred lifted his suit head and in return, Morgan lifted her night vision goggles, and they got a better look at each other. They really were just awkward college students trying to make small talk around the one friend they had in common.
"I just meant that I know Seth is really smart. I really admire them. That's all."
"Yeah, I get it, don't worry. Seth is going to do awesome things one day."
"Seems like they already have. Your tech is pretty impressive. Just, please don't use it to hurt anyone else."
"I don't want to hurt anyone. I just want to help Seth." So what if someone else got hurt in the process?
"A brick through a window won't accomplish that."
"That wasn't my plan before, although you make a compelling argument and I do know where to get bricks…"
"No no no, no compelling arguments. No more crimes. If you want vengeance, and believe me, I want it too, my family lawyer could set something up-"
"Fred, you're actually brilliant." Morgan grabbed Fred by the shoulders, pulling him into a very surprising hug.
"I guess I am, sometimes. Do you need the guy's number?"
"No thanks, there's a lawyer in my family. Not really looking forward to calling him, but it is what it is."
"Good luck, then, Morgan. You should head home."
"I think I'll stay out a little longer. The stars are good company."
"Okay. Just… Don't do anything rash."
"I'm just gonna make a phone call, I promise." Morgan hated the prospect of calling her dad, but she was elated to have found a way to help Seth. She'd known there had to be something, she just had to look at the problem from a different angle. It wasn't as fun as vandalism, but Morgan knew her dad would be able to help.
"Morgan, it's nearly midnight, what's wrong? Are you hurt? Is your mother hurt?"
"It's a matter of the law, Philip."
"Don't call me Philip."
"It's a matter of the law, Mr. Lynch."
"Which law did you break, Morgan Helena?"
"Why do you assume I broke a law?" Even her mom didn't know that her Krei job was a punishment. Pretty much only Big Hero 6 and Seth knew.
"Just a hunch."
"I didn't! But my friend got fired based on discrimination. I want to sue the crap out of the company."
"Are you sure it was discrimination or are you just angry? Discrimination cases are very serious and I can't help you if this isn't legitimate."
"It's legit. My friend Seth had top surgery, they requested two weeks off and it was approved. At the beginning of the second week, yesterday, their boss called them to tell Seth that if they didn't get back to work they would be fired. Revoking the recorded approval mid-sentence and firing Seth. I believe it was discrimination based on gender identity." Morgan knew that would strike a chord, Philip Lynch had to fight a similar battle when his other daughter Holly had transitioned from male-to-female.
"I don't think it's discrimination based on gender identity. I don't think your friend's boss fired them simply because of how they identify. But you could have a case based on the approved time off, especially if a medical professional were to agree that Seth needed that time off to recover and being forced into work would have been bad for their health. I can call a friend in San Fransokyo to whip something up, if this company thinks you have a case about them putting their employees in danger they will want to settle out of court and your friend should have a substantial severance package."
"Thank you so much-" Morgan hesitated, "dad. Thank you."
"You're welcome. Now go to bed, young lady. It's too late for you to be up fighting legal battles. That's my job. I'll email you in the morning about how to proceed."
"Good night, dad. Thank you for this. Thank you."
Fred and Morgan are slowly warming up to each other, Hardlight has a half-sister (credit to plasmacandle on Tumblr for this headcanon), and we get to learn a little bit more about Morgan's family. Wonder what Seth will think about Morgan's solution?
Question of the week: What anti-hero name would you pick for Morgan?
