Jazmine's phone had been blowing up for a good five minutes. She had been trying to ignore it and hang onto her last moments of sleep, but when her phone started to vibrate again with the fourth call in two minutes she knew it was time to just answer it. Making a noise of irritation, Jazmine rolled away from Huey, who seemed to be up and just ignoring the distractions, and dangled off the bed a little bit to grab her phone that had dropped off of the nightstand and onto the floor sometime during the night. She only barely noticed the name 'Cin' with a bunch of heart emojis flash across the screen before picking it up.
"Hello?"
"Bitch, you're fucking Huey?!"
"Mhmm," Jazmine hummed in conformation, her sleep-addled brain not even realizing the topic of conversation.
"That is so unfair! You know I wanted to get with him," Cindy exclaimed from the other line.
"I thought you wanted to get with Riley?"
Cindy paused before continuing, "Okay, well true, but I would've taken either one of them. You know them Freeman brothers are fiiiine."
Jazmine couldn't help but nod in agreement. God must have taken His sweet time making Huey and Riley because the both of them could only be described as gods among men. With tall, muscular bodies, piercing wine-colored eyes, defined features, and the stubble that ran across Huey's jaw? Hell yeah, she knew.
"Okay well, I'm already with Huey so-" It was at that moment that reality caught up to her and Jazmine realized that she hadn't even mentioned Huey to Cindy lately, let alone tell her that they were sleeping together. Flipping herself back onto her bed, Jazmine sat up straight, and when she spoke her voice was clear of its earlier sleepiness. "Cindy, how did you know that Huey and I are sleeping together?" She felt Huey gaze at her at this but ignored it.
"Girl, you know it's all over Twitter."
Panic seized her. "What?!"
"Yeah. Vids started dropping 'round two or three A.M. last night. Have you not seen them?"
Jazmine turned to glare at Huey who only gave her a slightly confused look back. No, she hadn't. She'd been preoccupied.
"Cin, I'm gonna call you back," she said, already pulling the phone away from her ear.
"What?! No! Jazmine, don't you-"
But Jazmine had already hung up. She could guess the end of that sentence anyway. 'Don't you dare hang up. Tell me everything. Blah blah blah.'
Now that she was fully awake, Jazmine was able to get a good look at her lock screen, seeing it littered with notifications from Instagram and Twitter, a barrage of texts from Cindy, one from Riley, and three missed calls from her manager. Ignoring all the other notifications, Jazmine instantly opened Twitter, clicking on her first mention.
"You gonna tell me why you were talking about me with Cindy," she heard Huey ask but ignored him, staring at her phone.
A video played of Huey and a woman, she instantly recognized it from the Wuncler Hotel. In the video, Huey and the girl, who she already knew was her, kissed passionately in a hot tub. Huey was instantly recognizable, what with his large afro and the Black Lives Matter fist tattooed on his chest, two of his most defining features to the public. Jazmine, to her relief, realized that she was not. That could be any woman with her body type, along with the fact that she was wearing one of the wigs she had been promoting at that time- a long, and most importantly, wavy and brown one -so there was no definite proof that it was her. Just as Jazmine let out a sigh of relief and wondered how Cindy had known it was her, video Jazmine pulled away from Huey, moving to tuck her hair behind her, and her face tilted to the camera that she had not known was there. And there, clearly, was her face to the camera before she and Huey started making out again.
"No!" Jazmine, the current one, cried out and had the urge to stop watching there. Unfortunately, Jazmine remembered that while she and Huey had not had sex in the hot tub, they most definitely had not been saints, and she had to know how much was going to be shown. The video, however, ended just when video her had begun to untie her bikini top. The tweet already had a thousand retweets and tons more likes, and that was only the first one she had clicked on. Jazmine groaned. This was awful.
"What's going on," she heard Huey asked from beside her and realized that he had been questioning her since the video started.
"Check Twitter," Jazmine quickly told him.
"Jazmine, that's ridiculous. Just tell me-" The rest of his sentence was lost on her though because she'd already jumped out of the bed and into her closet. Clicking her manager's contact to call her in one hand and pulling on a sweatshirt and shorts with the other, Jazmine was already out of the closet and going into the living room by the time her manager picked up.
"Finally, a call back," the woman yelled from the other line.
"I'm so sorry," Jazmine rushed out before immediately starting. "Is it bad?"
Bella huffed. "No, it's not bad. A couple bad reactions, some of his female followers," and Jazmine grimaced, she had figured, "but overall, mostly surprise and people joking about it. Wouldn't have hurt for me to know though," Bella added sharply.
"It's my personal business." That brought Jazmine to her second point. "Oh my gosh, how did someone get the video?! Do you know who posted it first?"
"Looks like security footage from the Wuncler Hotel that someone just posted. I found the original poster's account, a girl who looks like to have worked there. She posted it about three months ago, but it just blew up overnight. I've already contacted the hotel, they're going to fire her."
Jazmine started to feel a little bad. Sure, she was really embarrassed and a little upset, but she wasn't sure if she wanted her to be flat out fired. What if she needed that job? "Fired?"
"Jazmine," Bella sighed, already knowing where she was going with this, "what that girl has done is a huge breach of privacy to you and Huey. Her being fired is the absolute bare minimum of a punishment, you could sue her if you wanted to."
Jazmine sighed, she definitely didn't want to sue. The two continued with the conversation, Bella advising Jazmine to just speak out on it quickly and bury it, Jazmine insisting that it was her private business and that she didn't feel comfortable revealing the nature of her and Huey's relationship with her millions of followers. Fortunately, as it wasn't a huge scandal, Bella told her that there was really no need to if she didn't want to. The most there was to worry about were the irritated girls on Huey's side and the fact that Jazmine's image as a Hot Girl that single women could relate to might take a hit, but Jazmine knew social media and knew most likely that she would be praised.
"Okay, thanks Bella," Jazmine said before ending the phone call. Walking into the kitchen, Jazmine noticed Huey sitting at her island eating some toast with jam, a stormy expression on his face as he scrolled through his phone, probably on Twitter. She began to look through the fridge. "It sucks, doesn't it? Oooh, cinnamon buns."
"It's a fucking breach of privacy. What even makes people so interested in shit that isn't their business?"
"Don't know," Jazmine lied. She loved celebrity drama and gossip, although she had to admit it was really embarrassing on the other side of things. Taking the cinnamon buns out of the microwave when it beeped, Jazmine went to go sit beside him and leaned over to look into his screen. "Hashtag juey? Ew, is that what people are calling us? That sounds gross, I want them to think of something else."
"This isn't a joke, Jazmine," Huey said and glared at her, especially when she laughed at a Tweet that she found particularly funny.
"I know that!" She took a bite of one of the rolls, continuing when she had swallowed. "Are you gonna say something to your followers about it?"
"No. It's no one's business but our own." A text came through to his phone and he turned his glare to it, starting to respond to the person. "No matter how many times Caesar texts me. Are you?"
"Probably not," Jazmine said, her hand covering her mouth because she had food in her mouth. "My manager thinks I should, but I think it'll blow over. You know Twitter drama. She also said we could press charges against the girl who posted the original video if we wanted."
"Is the girl white?"
"Huey!"
Jazmine was wrong. It did not blow over, not even two weeks later. Jazmine had expected the increase in comments and interaction after the first couple of days, and she didn't mind it, even going to meet up with Cindy for brunch two days later.
"Sneaky ass," Cindy immediately started the second Jazmine sat down at the table, "couldn't even tell your own best friend that you're dating Huey Freeman. 'Just friends' my ass."
Jazmine rolled her eyes. "'Hey, Jazmine. How are you doing?' Hey, Cindy! I'm actually doing pretty well considering that my near sex tape was released on the internet for a bunch of people to see and talk about."
"Okay, my bad, my bad." Cindy held her hands up in surrender. "Whoever posted that shit in the first place is actually real foul for that, but still, I'm your best friend and I had to find out through Twitter. That's messed up."
Jazmine sighed but said nothing seeing as the waiter had come over. Both girls quickly put in their order for drinks and then started to peruse the menu. When they had both decided, Jazmine started again, "Okay, I apologize, but I didn't tell you because Huey and me aren't dating."
Cindy was shocked by this, her eyebrows raising. "Y'all aren't?"
"No. Me and Huey were friends- we are friends," she corrected herself, "we're just also…"
"Fucking," Cindy supplied the word and Jazmine nodded, an embarrassed blush on her face. "Jaz, you don't do friends with benefits. You get attached way too easily."
"I know, and I told him that." The waiter came back with their drinks and the girls ordered their food. "He said he was fine either way so we were going to stay just friends."
Cindy was now completely invested, leaning towards Jazmine and chewing slightly on the straw of her drink. "But then…" Cindy urged impatiently when Jazmine stopped to drink and didn't continue for a minute.
"Impatient butt," Jazmine said with a roll of her eyes. "Come on now, Cindy. You've seen Huey, he is so fine!"
"Shit, who you tellin'," Cindy scoffed. Any woman with eyes knew that Huey was attractive beyond all measure. "Him and his brother make me wanna take off my pussy and throw it at them."
Jazmine couldn't help it, she instantly burst into laughter. "You're gross," she snorted.
"Yeah, whatever. Says the bitch who actually did it."
"Anyway, I don't know what to tell you. I like how he looks, he likes how I look, we have sex."
"And get nasty in a hot tub," Cindy laughed and Jazmine giggled as well. The two stopped talking, taking the time to enjoy their drinks until finally, Cindy spoke again. "Well, I'm glad for you, probably would be a little gladder if you introduced me to Riley-" Jazmine sucked her teeth, Cindy had been trying to get her to set her and Riley up for the longest "-but you know you're gonna end up catching feelings for him."
Jazmine said nothing and chose to slowly sip at her drink. Of course she knew that. Jazmine just wasn't one of those girls who could have casual sex, she always ended up getting attached. On top of that, she felt like it was going to be worse since Huey and her started out friends.
"Whatever," she brushed her thoughts off. "I'll cross that bridge when I get there."
A week and five days later, Jazmine realized she was finally at that bridge. And even worse, she was still getting hundreds of comments a day asking about her relationship status with Huey, and even some death and doxxing threats (all from Huey's fangirls). It was to the point that a few girls had even asked her when they recognized her in public.
"I've had enough," she told Huey one day when they were hanging out. "I'm gonna go live and put the rumors to rest. It was funny at first-"
"No, it wasn't," Huey interrupted dryly.
"Yeah, that shit was," Riley called from out. He was currently on FaceTime with Huey. They were both playing some game together on their Xboxes. "Aye, y'all see that one meme-"
She continued on as if she hadn't heard either of them. "But now I can't post a single thing without every single comment being about you. We're not even together, and even if we were, I don't want people to act like I don't exist outside of you."
Huey shrugged, focused on his TV screen. "Okay. If you feel like you need to address it, go ahead."
"I will. I'm gonna go live in your room," she said, standing up and starting to walk away.
"Don't."
Going to his room anyway, Jazmine sat at Huey's desk and rearranged it a bit, setting his laptop on the ground and replacing it with a stack of books, before propping her phone up on it. Instagram already open, she simply swiped over to her story. Before starting, she looked over herself in the camera. Jazmine didn't usually wear a full face of makeup unless she had an event, photoshoot, or had to for a promotion, so today she only had on a pair of long, false lashes and clear lipgloss from one of her favorite small businesses. Her hair that she had straightened yesterday was tucked behind a headband and pulled into a high ponytail. Satisfied with how she looked, Jazmine started going live.
Within seconds there were already thousands of viewers pouring in.
thatsmisstolerrr: Omg! Can you say happy birthday to Veronica?
JaylenH: i just started doin ur skincare routine its soooo good
fearsome_mcphearson: Girl, I KNOW that is not your house! Wya
futuremrshueyfreeman: Ik where you live you ugly ass–
Jazmine stopped reading the comments at that and put on a smile to her phone's camera. There were more than enough people in the live now so she decided to get started. "Hi, everyone," she said cheerily. "Thanks for taking the time out to watch my live."
hotavacadhoe: Is it true you and Megan are fighting right now?
kayleesspam: i love u
jazminestan214: are you at hueys house! I ship it
"I'm guessing all of you have seen the video of me and Huey already in the hot tub," Jazmine continued and blushed heavily remembering it. "Gosh, that's so embarrassing." She buried her face in her hands for a moment before cupping her cheeks. "And I honestly wish you all would stop bringing it up under every single thing I post. I love you guys so much, I promise."
Jazmine loved her followers more than she'd ever be able to express. Without them, she wouldn't have her whole career, her house, a lot of her friends. Shoot, without them she wouldn't have even ever started being friends with Huey or Riley. She knew that being an Instagram influencer wasn't what she wanted to do forever, and sometimes the constant, unnecessary hate made her want to never pick up a phone again. However, at the end of the day, her fans made it all worth it and she loved the different modeling opportunities and the fact that she was able to make some people happy just by being herself. What she didn't love was the fact that a lot of them felt entitled to know every single detail about her life.
"It's just that it was super embarrassing for someone to put that video out there and for people to then bring it up for two whole weeks." Jazmine was about to continue until a string of comments caught her attention.
mixxedashleyyy: I mean what did she expect she puts her whole life on IG and Twitter and Youtube
mixxedashleyyy: She doesnt get to get mad abt another part of it going viral on Twitter
mixxedashleyyy: Attention whore. You can't get mad about your business being on IG when YOU put your business out there too
Jazmine blinked. Did some people really not get it?
"I get that some people think because I do vlogs or like to talk to you guys about my day that I'm not allowed to pick and choose what about my life I let out there, but they're wrong." She got a lot of claps and heart emojis at this. Cindy was also currently dragging the user mixxedashleyyy in the comment section. "I'm entitled to privacy, no matter how much of my life I put on display. And that's exactly what me and Huey's relationship is. Private. And so is any other relationship I have with anyone else. I love that a lot of you guys support me, but I don't owe you every single detail about my life just because of that."
User1049: YASSSS JAZMINE
keisha_: Oop! She's dragging y'all
QueenJazzDB: OK! Let them know, Jazz
Smiling, Jazmine started to wrap up. "So thank you, guys, but please stop asking me about Huey, and stop leaving me death threats and stuff. If I ever feel like I'd like to share about any of my business with any of my friends, I will let you know, but I don't right now, and especially not about this."
She reached for her phone, ready to end the video when the door to Huey's room and he walked in. "Did you tell them they need to mind their business?"
"Huey, I'm still on live!"
"Good," he said and before Jazmine could even react, he had walked over and picked her phone up. "Stop fucking harassing me and Jazmine."
"Give me my phone back," Jazmine panicked, and jumped out of her seat to snatch the device back from him before quickly ending the live. God, she was so going to end up on TheShadeRoom later. Again. Glaring up at him, she snapped, "There were three million people watching! Would it kill you to be nice to them? Some of them are your followers too!"
Huey rolled his eyes. He didn't care nearly as much about his social media influencer status as Jazmine did. "I don't have to be nice to people who have been annoying me for two weeks about shit that doesn't have to do with them and, believe it or not, neither do you."
Jazmine sighed, putting her phone face down on his desk. She knew he was right, but she really didn't mind showing even her haters kindness. "I choose to be nice, unlike you. I think you'll literally start to melt like the witch in Wizard of Oz if you ever say anything remotely nice to anyone ever," she giggled as she stepped closer to him, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Or maybe I don't feel the need to be annoyingly nice to literal strangers," Huey smirked down at her, hands on her hips.
"Yeah, whatever," Jazmine mumbled before standing on her tip-toes to kiss him. They didn't get to do much seeing as Jazmine's phone began to ring seconds later. "It's Cindy," Jazmine told Huey when she picked it up from his desk.
"Call her back later," he muttered, kissing down her neck.
A quiet moan escaped Jazmine, and she was very tempted to. However, knowing Cindy, the girl would just continue to call her until Jazmine finally picked up. "Let me just see what she wants," she said quickly, moving away from him and picking up the FaceTime call. "Hey, Cin. Are you at Riley's house," Jazmine asked. She recognized the background.
Yes, Jazmine had finally introduced the two, and clearly, they had hit it off. Cindy's hair was mussed up and she was wearing one of his shirts.
"Yeah. Hey, Huey," the blonde called, seeing him in the back. Huey, being himself, said nothing back to her. Cindy was unfazed by this and went back to talking to Jazmine. "Girl, good for you, puttin' your foot down with them nosey-ass people." Jazmine rolled her eyes good-naturedly. She didn't bother pointing out to Cindy that she had been one of those nosey-asses. "You know you're on TheShadeRoom, right?"
Jazmine groaned. Of course.
a/n: if y'all couldn't tell, i'm on an au kick lmao. this is my social media influencer au where jazmine is an influencer because she's pretty and models and uses social media well (think nikita dragun but, you know, not problematic), huey is an influencer that covers topics like BLM and civil rights and world problems and politics, but let's be honest, he only really got a mass following because he's hot, riley is also one because you cannot tell me that he would not post a video just being his usual hilarious, hood nigga ass self and then just go viral. after that, he became a comedian and started to get roles in movies (think kevin hart), his hotness helps though. i'm not exactly sure if i want cindy to be one or not, so i just didn't mention it. it could really go either way
anyway, you guys seriously do not know, i've been writing like crazy for my other story Rebuilding Our Future (by the way, i lowkey hate this title and wanna change it. also go start reading it if you haven't) and also i started two other chapters that i want to post to here. pray for me y'all because i swear the burn out is going to be so hard and then it'll be complete radio silence from me when writer's block decides to move back into my brain. but speaking of ROF i'm lowkey irritated because i've gotten up to chapter four and almost finished with chapter five but i didn't want to post them yet but then i realized that thanksgiving and christmas are around the corner so ofc i want to write holiday chapters for that story but that would mean i have to post all the ones i've written to put out one in time by thanksgiving. but whatever, you probably don't care
moving on, responding to reviews time!
thank you, Bulmas Ego, for writing a review for ch. 4! funny story, i started writing an extra to it because of you, but then i got insecure and hated it sooo... sorry. but i'm glad you liked the au! i'll try to write for it again sometime soon.
and thank you to RabbitMelody (glad i'm not the only one patiently waiting for From Uncle Reezy, to Daddy Reezy to be updated)! i'm glad that you thought ch. 6 was cute and thank you for starting to read ROF (i read your review on that one as well). and i know, riley's all in cleo's business lmao. he needs to mind his
that's it for this chapter! see you when i see you
p.s. also for some reason the website would not let me type out some of the usernames i thought of and i had to make some changes so if some of them disappear or read weird i'm so sorry
