The game had evolved.
In the beginning, they were mostly trying to give each other some gross or otherwise off-putting tasks, but after some time they were running out of ideas, so it started looking like a pretty normal game. Sougo had dared Kagura to recite a famous haiku thinking she wouldn't know it as a foreigner, but she surprised him by saying it correctly, although with her weird accent and horrible diction. In turn, she dared him to stand on one leg for 10 minutes.
'Great, but how are you going to measure it? My phone has died and neither of us have a watch,' Okita said.
'I'm going to sing the Doraemon opening song. It's exactly 1,5 minutes long, so… Hn, it won't be full 10 minutes this way, alright, let's make it 9 instead.'
'You're going to sing it 6 times?'
'Yeah.'
'It's going to be torture.'
'Well, you don't have to do it, but you won't get a point,' Kagura grinned. 'If you fail, I'll do it, but then you have to sing.'
'Alright, I think I can do it. I mean standing on one leg, I'm not so sure about listening to your singing.'
'What, you think I can't sing? Have you ever heard me sing?'
'No, but it's not so difficult to imagine.'
'Huh, we'll see. Stand up! You ready?'
'Yeah.'
'Begin!'
Okita raised his left foot and Kagura started singing. It was as bad as Okita had imagined. One time… two times… When she was singing the third time, he felt his right leg itching. How come such things happen exactly when we shouldn't move? He tried to scratch it with his left foot, but at this point he suddenly lost his balance and had to lean on the wall not to fall…
'You lost!' Kagura exclaimed.
'But I'm still standing on one foot,' Okita tried arguing.
'Well, you're not supposed to touch anything else! For a moment, you were standing on your foot and your arm, because you were touching the wall with it!'
'Ugh, whatever,' Okita let his foot down, 'I'm looking forward to seeing you stand on one leg with that box on your back, then!'
Ah, right, she needed a handicap. Kagura walked toward the box and lifted it. It was heavier than she had expected. But no going back…
'What should I tie it to my back with?'
'Are you asking me? It was you who proposed it.'
'Never mind then, dumb sadist. I'll find something myself.' Kagura started looking, but there didn't seem to be anything resembling a rope. She started wondering if she should cut up her blanket for this purpose, but there was no guarantee it wouldn't break and she wasn't keen on shredding her only cover just for testing purposes…
'So, what are you going to do?' Okita sneered. Kagura looked at him with a glimmer in her eye.
'I can't use that box, but there's something of similar weight, guess I'll have to substitute it by that.'
'Really, what is that?' Okita started looking around, when he was suddenly lifted off the ground and found himself on Kagura's back.
'Just some idiot standing before me,' she replied. 'Start singing when I raise my foot! One, two, three!'
She stood on one leg before Okita managed to say anything, so he had no choice but to start singing the anime song. One, two three times… He was singing in a very monotonous way, the exact opposite of Kagura's performance. At the end of the fifth repetition, however, he suddenly yelled one word just into Kagura's ear. This made her sway violently, but she kept her balance nonetheless.
'You bastard, trying to sabotage me,' she yelled.
'You sang much worse, you know,'
'But I didn't try to make you fall down by it!'
'There wasn't anything about sabotage being banned in the rules, remember?'
'Keep singing, you idiot! So much time has passed already!'
'It's you who stopped me…'
'Sing or I'll crack your head open on the wall!'
Okita decided it was best not to piss off Kagura anymore, as long as he was on her back, at least. He sang the song. He expected to get thrown onto the wall or the ground as soon as he finished, but Kagura just let him down normally. He looked at her, astonished. Had she just forgiven him?
'What are you staring at, sadist?'
'Why… I mean… Never mind.'
'Sabotage isn't banned? That's nice,' Kagura grinned.
It was already dark, but it didn't look as if the game was going to end soon…
