Yoshinari and Takuto readied themselves as the last bit of sunlight faded away. The table they picked to play vanguard on was lit by the street lamps and the bright full moon.

"Stand up," the both began. "Vanguard!"

"Glyme!"

"Starhulk, Lurli!" Takuto grinned as he drew his first card. "I ride Starhulk Chiral, draw and end my turn."

"What kind of cards are those?" Yoshinari wondered. "He had never seen or heard of a clan that named their units Starhulk."

"It's a special clan," Takuto shrugged. "They are referred to as Link Joker."

Yoshinari grunted, knowing he was facing a clan he wasn't familiar with. Still he had to try and end this before it becomes out of hand. For the sake of his sisters and other Vanguard Players. "My turn, I draw," Yoshinari yelled with determination. "I ride Pongal! Then I draw. Pongal attacks!"

"No guard." Takuto happily took his first damage.

Yoshinari didn't recieve any triggers in his drive check, but that's fine. Having triggers late game is better anyway.

"My turn," Takuto spoke up. "I draw." He smiled before riding his grade two. "Starhulk Letaluk. I then call another Starhulk Letaluk!"

"What are you scheming?"

"Don't you worry yourself," Takuto mocked. "Just wait and see. The fun's about to begin. My vanguard attacks."

"No guard," Yoshinari spoke up.

"Drive trigger check. No trigger."

"Yoshinari sighed in relief."

"That's fine," Takuto shrugged. "My drive trigger check reveals a Starhulk. Meaning my rearguard's abillity activates. It get's plus ten thousand power. My rearguard attacks."

"Damage trigger check, draw trigger. I draw!" Yoshinari was now at two damage. He wasn't going to risk using up the cards in his hand to guard himself. "I stand and draw! I ride Knight of Loyalty, Bedivere! I then call Highdog Breeder Akane and use her abillity to superior call Pongal from my deck. Then I soul charge due to Pongal's ability."

"Excellent," Takuto grinned. "Show me your power!"

"My vanguard attacks," Yoshinari yelled.

"Intercept," Takuto laughed.

"This early?", Yoshinari wondered. Takuto was only at one damage, why would he throw away a rearguard this early. Not to mention, his guard isn't insured because Yoshinari could still get a trigger."

"Are you confused?", Takuto taunted. "Don't worry, watch as you become enlightened. My Rearguard's ability activates when it intercepts so long as I have a Starhulk Vanguard. Because of this, I can bind the top card of your deck." Takuto's psyqualia flared up as he reached for Yoshinari's top card. "Good bye Firno!"

Yoshinari's eyes widened as his own Psyqualia activated. He saw his Aggregate Knight, Firno scream as she was pulled into the darkness by Starhulk, Letaluk. "What did you do?"

"In this world it looks like I just bound your card," Takuto explained. "On Kray, I just removed your ally. But do not worry. Firno was weak and holding your deck back. I have better units more fit for a Royal Paladin Player like you."

Tears fell from Yoshinari's eyes as he felt his deck shorten. He didn't just take Firno away in his Psyqualia vision. Firno was no longer in Yoshinari's deck.

"Is your turn over? Or will you attack with Akane?"

Akane and Pongal charged furiously at the Starhulk to avenge their comrade. Takuto was now at two damage just like Yoshinari.

"Stand and draw," Takuto spoke up. "I ride Wandering Starhulk Ruler, Brandt. Force." He placed his force marker under his vanguard. "Abillity activate. I counterblast and Soulblast. Behold my Starhulk's power! I call Starhulk Gicurs behind my Vanguard. Then I use his abillity to soul blast my starter unit and bind the top card of your deck!"

"Not again!"

"Taintless Feather Dragon. Goodbye!"

"No," Yoshinari yelled as his Feather Dragon was pulled into the darkness just Like Firno. "This isn't fair. Binding doesn't do that."

"This is more than a little game," Takuto laughed. "This is the reality, a battle between our planets! I attack with my Vanguard for thirty one thousand power!"

"Perfect guard," Yoshinari yelled. He couldn't let his opponent deal more damage, Now that he needed to play a longer game. But how, how was he going to take down this kid.

"Twin drive check.. Draw trigger and no trigger." Takuto drew his card and then passed his turn to Yoshinari.

"I won't let you get away with this," Yoshinari yelled. "I ride Soul Saver Dragon! Force." He placed his force marker under his vanguard. "I call Rendering Angel to superior call Dream Painter, Dream Painter ability activates allowing me to take a grade two or less unit from the drop zone and place it in my soul. Rendering Angel gets plus 5000 power for superior calling. I then call another Pongal behind my Vanguard and soul charge! Then I soulblast five!" He placed his cards in the drop zone. It was early, but his Psyqualia assured him he'll be able to use Soul Saver Dragon's ability a second time before this game is over. "My vanguard attacks for, sixty one thousand power! Then I soul charge!"

"No Guard," Takuto grinned.

Yoshinari drew a heal trigger and grunted as he took an extra damage. His second check had no trigger. Takuto took the hit and was at three damage just like Yoshinari. "Akane attacks with Pongal for fifty one thousand power."

"Guard. I counterblast two and I move two of my Starhulk Gicurs from my Guard Circle to the rear."

"Rendering Angel attacks for fifty three thousand power."

"No guard." Takuto took another damage. "Stand and draw." He grinned as he rode his next monster. "Fall Before the Strong, Sentorian Clap Burst! I Ride, Wandering Starhulk Diety, Brandt Ringer! Force! I counterblast making your triggers turn on you. Then I call two Starhulk Letaluks." He had a full field now thanks to his guards being able to move to the rear. "Prepare for the end. My Vanguard attacks Fourty two thousand power."

"No guard," Yoshinari spoke up. He was at three damage, he knew it was risky not to guard especially with his heal triggers being against him. However, he didn't have a lot of cards in hand. He needed to conserve his strength. "I have two cards in the soul plus my Soul Saver Dragon," Yoshinari thought. "If I can ride Soul Saver Dragon again, it'll go up to three. Then I'll call another Pongal and Superior Call Dream Painter again. That should allow me to use Soul Saver Dragon's ability again. Not to mention, Takuto is at four damage right now. I only need two good hits and I win unless if he heals. Drawing a Critical Trigger might also hurt me."

"So you willingly go to four damage," Takuto yawned. "Twin Drive check. No trigger but a Starhulk. Second check, critical trigger. crit to vanguard. Power to my rear."

This was bad. Yoshinari was now at five damage and if he heals, it's over.

"My rear guard attacks, since I revealed a drive check revealed a Starhulk my Letaluk get's plus ten thousand power. So he attacks for thirty eight thousand power."

"Perfect Guard!" Yoshinari grunted as he had to discard his Pongal in order to guard that attack.

"My other Rearguard attacks for twenty eight thousand power."

"Guard and intercept," Yoshinari yelled as he held up a critical trigger and used Akane to Intercept. "Stand and Draw." He sighed in relief as he drew into High Dog Breeder Akane. I ride Soul Saver Dragon! Force." He placed his force Marker on his right rear guard circle. I call Akane and superior call a new Pongal." It was the last Pongal in his deck. The odds of him soul charging enough for round three was low. The I call a new Rendering angel to Seperior Call a new Dream painter." It all worked out thanks to the draw trigger he got as his second damage. Conserving his cards worked out. "Abillty Activate. My Soul Saver Dragon Attacks for Sixty one thousand Power."

"Guard and Intercept." Takuto grinned as he placed his two Letaluks on the Guard Circle. "That means two more cards have to go."

Yoshinari closed his eyes not wanting to See Bedivere and Kay, the cards his sisters gave him get pulled away by the Starhulks into the darkness. "Twin Drive check. First check, no trigger. Second check draw trigger. I discard. Power to my Vanguard and he passes."

"It doesn't matter." He took his next damage putting him at five. "You won't be able to hurt me any further."

"Akane attacks for sixty one thousand power!"

"No guard. Heal Trigger."

"Rendering Angel attacks for Fifty three thousand power!"

"Perfect Guard!"

Yoshinari slammed his hand on the table. That's it. There's nothing he could do. He didn't have the sufficiant cards in hand to guard any further attacks.

"Stand and Draw. Counter Blast and my Vanguard attacks!"

"No Guard," Yoshinari sighed. His heal trigger came, but there was no point. All it did was give him his final damage. Yoshinari screamed as he became inveloped in darkness. He became a Psyqualia Zombie.
