It had been two days since Vicky's death and Godrick was in his brother's bedroom sitting on his bed. He was aware that Elena had asked Damon to compel Jeremy to forget about what happened and he didn't agree with her decision but that didn't really matter now. The herbs he had been giving his brother would have drained any compulsion from his mind and allowed him to remember all that had went down with Vicky not even two hours after the Damon left.
Godrick had given his brother a day to process the event on his own before approaching him. His siblings had to go to the sheriff's office to make a deposition about Vicky today and he couldn't have his brother talking about vampires or let anyone know the compulsion hadn't stuck for that matter. It would raise to many questions he did not feel like answering right now. So now Godrick was seating in front of his brother, having the conversation Jeremy should have had with their father on his sixteen's birthday as par tradition in the Gilbert family.
The firstborn was told at a young age, and was then considered the head of the family after his eighteens birthday. The younger siblings however were to be told when they turned sixteen. The only reason why Elena hadn't known before she met Stefan was because Godrick had begged his parents to let her have a normal life for as long as possible.
The point was moot now. Both his siblings knew about vampires and his brother had a lot of questions. It had taken a lot of screaming, some tears and a good long talk but his brother was finely ready to listen. All in all, it went a lot better than it had any right to after he had killed Jeremy's girlfriend, but the Gilbert children always had a strange dynamic that consisted of hurt and petty payback so Godrick was confident his brother would make him pay in his own way latter, for now he just wanted to learn as much as he could about the world he just discovered.
"Why did the compulsion wear off?"
Huh! Siblings and their hard questions.
"The herbs I gave you to smoke are a mix between vervain and other magical herbs. They protect your mind from outside influences."
Jeremy nodded and fired another question.
"How do you become a vampire?"
Godrick fixed his brother with a look and the younger was smart enough to ask something else. Jeremy was impulsive and it was probably a good idea that he didn't know how to become an immortal, he didn't want the sophomore to get any crazy ideas.
"Why are you telling me all this?"
Now that was a good question, and it was easy to answer.
"Because you, Jeremy, are a Gilbert and the supernatural is part of your legacy. If he were here dad would have told you all of this on your sixteen's birthday."
The reminder of their dead parents drained all the excitement out of the youngest Gilbert.
"So, what do I do now."
The eldest brother fixed his sibling with an intense look, before letting a sly smile cross his face.
"Now? Now I teach you how to lie like your life depended on it."
It probably wasn't a good thing to teach his younger sibling, but no one ever accused him of being a good role model. He kind of owned him anyway.
Later that day, Godrick and Jeremy were seating at the kitchen table as the eldest helped his brother with his homework. While he wasn't the best student himself it had more to do with his lack of interest in the subject then lack of understanding. He had a 3.5 GP and took four AP classes, but he just didn't care enough to get better grades. Elena was lounging on the couch as the brothers worked and Jenna soon joined her.
"You're wallowing."
The accusation was turned right back on the accuser.
"So are you."
Jenna huffed as she admitted defeat.
"My wallow is legitimate. I was dumped."
Elena shrugged and offered some words of comfort.
"Yeah. Well Logan's a jerk."
That did not raise her aunt's spirit.
"You didn't get a brush-off e-mail say: "I'm leaving town. See ya.""
If only Jenna knew her boyfriend was dead. Well, that wouldn't help her mood but at least it would heal her bruised ego. Jeremy, who was writing on his note pad grumbled at the girl's chatter.
"Wanna keep it down over there?"
The two girls turned to see what the boys were doing as Jenna asked.
"Why? What are you doing?"
Godrick was the one to answer.
"Homework."
Elena fixed an incredulous look at her younger brother.
"Since when do you do homework?"
Jeremy didn't look up from his notes as he responded.
"I gotta finish this. I'm way behind and I have a quiz tomorrow so..."
Godrick raised hand and piped in.
"It is my responsibility as an older brother to make sure my siblings get a good education."
He was lying through his teeth of course. Godrick had made a deal that he would help his brother any way he could as a sorry for killing his girlfriend and so the younger decided to subject his big brother to the torture that is Hight school homework. Younger siblings were evil. But neither girls knew that as they exchanged a look. Elena was the first to speak.
"What do you think? Aliens?"
Humming in agreement, their aunt played along to the guessing game.
"Some sort of replicants."
Jeremy did not find it funny.
"The replicants can hear you."
Jenna laughed as Elena let a contemplative look cross her face.
Godrick was working on an assay for school on his computer, his brother's newfound focus on school work reminding of his own, when Bonnie walked into the room, took his hand and dragged him into his sisters bedroom. What was it with girls and the dragging? Sitting on his sister's bed he sent Elena a questioning look but only got a shrug in response.
Bonnie closed the door and the window before grabbing one of Elena's pillows and ripping it in two as Elena protested.
"Hey!"
Godrick was just happy she didn't ripe up the pillow he had put the pouch of herbs in. He would have had a hard time explaining it to his sister, she loved her pillow. That and he wasn't realy allowed in her room when she wasn't there. The reason behind this rule may have something to do with pins finding there way under her sheats when they were having a prank war two years ago, or was it the glue in her lips stick?
What was going on again, or right Bonnie and pillow, ok. The Bennet girl only gave her friend a pleading expression.
"Just be patient."
She waited for the twins to nod before continuing.
"I need to swear you to secrecy."
Elena slumped her shoulders in defeat.
"It's kind of a bad week for that kind of stuff."
That was an understatement. Elena had never had to keep so many secrets from so many people before, but Bonnie insisted.
"Swear, 'cause I'm not supposed to be showing you this."
The twins looked at each other before nodding.
"Ok. We swear."
After making sure they were serious Bonnie got started. She lifted her hand over the mess of feathers and raised it higher as one of the feathers followed it. Setting it back down she sneaked a look at the siblings and saw that they were not freaking out, before rubbing her hands together and closing her eyes.
Focusing she raised both her hands into the air and made all the feathers float into the around the room.
"It's true Elena. Everything my Grams told me. It's impossible and it's true. I'm a witch."
Laughing the friends played with flying objects when suddenly the Bennet witch lost her control over the feathers.
They rose higher into the air and began spinning around the room before gathering into a ball in the middle of the ceiling and exploding outwards into a shower of white. Elena looked at her friend in amazement.
"Bonnie that was incredible."
But the Bennet witch was frowning.
"That last bit wasn't me."
Confused the two girls looked at each other before fixing their gaze on the only other occupant of the room. The boy smiled as a look of realization crossed the girl's faces. Elena already knew about his magic, but Bonnie didn't and he didn't know a better way for her to learn his secret then by showing it.
"Welcome to the witchy community Bonnie Bennet. It's been a long time coming."
The Bennet could only laughed in response and her two friends soon joined her.
Godrick made his way to the Salvatore's house after his sister came home an unhappy look on her face. It seemed to be the norm these days. Every time she went there something bad happened. At least this time it wasn't a bitchy drug addict vampire.
Throwing the front door open with his magic Godrick walked dramatically into the vampire infested residence, his voice traveling through it.
"Stefan! Get your immortal ass down here before I come for you."
A blond blur ran in front of him and pinned him to the wall by the throat.
"Who the hell are you?"
Acting quickly Godrick griped the offender's hand where it held him. Not a second later the blond vampire loosened her grip as a pain she had never felt before traveled through her body. It was like every bit of strength she had was being drained from her body. Gray veins started appearing along her arms as someone pulled her away from the Gilbert boy.
Secure in Stefan's arms Lexi looked at her hands as colors returned to her skin and Stefan stepped between his two friends as he looked at the boy.
"Godrick. What are you doing here?"
Massaging his throat, the boy cleared it before speaking.
"Well, I came here to see what you had done to upset my sister, yet again. But now I understand."
Confusion filled the vampire's expression before he looked back at Lexi, a look of realization crossing his face.
"Oh, no,no,no. This isn't what it looks like."
At the other boy's raised eyebrow, he went on.
"Lexi is an old friend nothing more, I swear."
The blond let out an offended breath.
"Well, that's one way to stroke a girls ego."
Godrick let a smirk cross his face at the woman's words.
"I like you."
Lexi smiled as she responded.
"I can't say the same. No offence."
That only made his smirk grow.
"None taken."
Stefan looked between the two with an amused look.
"Are you two flirting?"
The answer was swift on both parts.
"She's not my type."
"I'm note his type."
Again, the two shared a smirk as a look of understanding crossed the Salvatore's face before the Gilbert spoke mockingly.
"He's a little bit slow isn't he."
Lexi could only shrugged in exasperation.
"Men. What can you do."
Godrick, somehow, got talked into staying as the two vampires got ready for the party that Caroline was throwing at the Grill. He was playing with Katherine's picture as Lexi put on her makeup and lectured Stefan at the same time. Ah, women and multitasking.
"You have some serious emotional damage."
Stefan was doing his tie has he tried to defend himself.
"No, it's not what you think. She's not Katherine."
Lexi shrugged in indifference.
"Then they're related, 'cause they could be twins."
Godrick spoke up before the Salvatore could.
"We are distant relatives on our birth mother's side. And she already has evil twin."
The left both vampires speechless. He should probably find some satisfaction in the fact that he was always the one with information, but it got old really quickly. Sometimes he just wanted to blurt out all he knew and be done with it but he couldn't. He needed to protect his sister and if that meant keeping his knowledge to himself for a little longer than so be it. And it was kind of fun to play the mysterious guy with all the answers.
"I do hope your care for my sister extends beyond the superficial attraction that comes with nostalgia."
Stefan, keeping in mind the power the younger man held at his fingertips, chose his words carefully as Lexi watched on amused.
"Ok yes, yes the resemblance is what drew me in. But that's it. Katherine and Elena may look the same on the outside but on the inside they are completely different."
Lexi raised an eyebrow at her friend's words.
"So Elena is not a raging Bitch then, huh?"
The answer leaving Godrick's lips startled a laugh out of both of them.
"Only once a month."
Stefan shook his head a dopey smile over taking his face.
"No. Elena is...Elena's warm and she's...she's kind, and she's caring, and she's selfless, and it's real. And honestly when I'm around her, I...I completely forget what I am."
For once Godrick was the one left speechless as Lexi gasped.
"Oh my god! You're in love with her."
The Salvatore's smile only grew at the realization.
"Yeah. Yeah, I am."
Godrick would have enjoyed the moment if his mind allowed him to but the only thing he could think of was that the vampire's love for his sister could be a useful tool in keeping her safe. His all life was built around her and his brother, and he would use anything, manipulate anyone, to keep them close to him. By the Gods he was messed up.
Godrick made his way into the Grill, Lexi by his side. It would seem that every girl in the world held the power to make him do things he didn't want to do. He was just cursed that way. Looking around himself the boy rolled his eyes as Damon made his way toward them.
"Where's my brother?"
Lexi didn't seem any more pleased to see the older Salvatore if her tone was anything to go by.
"He said he'd meet us here."
Nodding Damon gave a charming smile.
"Buy you a ..."
Anything else he was about to say was drowned out by the music as Lexi dragged the Gilbert boy to one of the pool tables. Grabbing two strikes she handed one to the teen before bending down and breaking in the balls.
"So I already know you can beat me in a fight. But can you beat me at pool?"
The boy smirked at the challenge. He didn't get mmany opportunities to have fun, and after the all mess with Vicky, he needed a night of. He may not feel guilty about killing her, but that didn't mean the experience hadn't affected him. He knew he was apathetic to most things, well actually to anything that didn't involve the people he cared about, but he didn't think his apathy would extent to murder. It was eating at him, so if the chance to take his mind of off it presented itself, who was he to refuse it.
"Let's find out."
And so, they played. At every good move they asked each other questions, one about Stefan, the other about Elena, recounting all the funny and weird stories they could think of about the other until Stefan walked in and Lexi dragged both boys on to the dance floor.
Lexi and Godrick were moving, well Lexi was moving to the beat, Godrick was kind of just bouncing on the balls of his feet in sync with the rhythm. It was still a sight better than Stefan who just stood beside them his expression pinches and his poster as stiff as a board. The blond huffed at her friend's behavior.
"Okay, I'm gonna need a little more foot movement."
Stefan did not seem to like that idea.
"Yeah, not really interested in making a fool out of myself."
Godrick, taking advantage of his newly acquired knowledge nudged the brooding vampire.
"Is that what you said before jumping into a fountain? Naked?"
Stefan looked at his best friend, betrayed as the woman shrugged her shoulder smirking, he shouldn't have left her alone for so long if he didn't went his embarrassing secrets revealed. Finally the birthday boy gave in.
"Do me a favor. Tell me if you see Damon with his camera phone."
Lexi smiled in reassurance before laughing as Stefan spined her around. The of them danced for a little while before making their way back to the pool table. The human getting his ass kicked by the two vampires. Superhuman reflexes were a cheat.
A little while later, Lexi walked off to get them drinks and somehow ended up talking to Elena. Godrick watched Stefan from the corner of his eye as Lexi made her way back to their game.
"Yep, I drank yours, sorry."
The younger vampire smiled.
"Thank you."
The blond huffed.
"You weren't supposed to be listening."
Seeing his unapologetic face she shrugged, embarrassed.
"I was feeling epic, whatever."
Godrick handed his queue to Lexi as he spoke.
"It's your turn to break."
The trio continued their game until Godrick saw his sister making her way to their table. Whatever the blond had told her must have been convincing if the hopeful look on her face was anything to go by. Nudging the oldest vampire with an elbow, the Gilbert conveyed a silent message before they both left the table without saying a word.
Lexi went to the bar as Godrick made his way outside, the place was getting a little to stuffy for his taste.
He was taking in the fresh air, doing his best to ignore the traitorous thoughts trying to invade his mind when a bad feeling washed over him. Following his instincts, he made his way around and to the back of the Grill and stumbled on a surprising scene.
Lexi was laying on the floor dead, a stake sticking out of her chest. Damon was standing over the body as Sheriff Forbes congratulated him on job well done. What the Fuck?
Two hours later Godrick was standing on the back porch of the Salvatore residence looking at the stars. Taking a breath, he spoke up.
"You let him live."
It wasn't a question. They both new Stefan didn't have it in him to kill his brother no matter how much he wanted to. No matter how awful he got, or what horrible thing he did, Stefan still loved his brother, and he always will. Sibling relationships were funny like that.
"This can't go on Stefan. You need to rein him in before things get worst."
The vampire agreed. The body count was already to high, Damon needed to be stopped before his escalated even more.
"Give me a week to figure out what he wants."
His next words saddened him but they needed to be said.
"If I can't, then I'll need you to step in."
The air was grim as the two man came to an agreement. Damon's behavior was getting out of hand, and they were running out of options short of killing him and tonight's events proved that that was not something Stefan could do. So he left the choice in someone else's hands. Someone he knew would do what needs to be done. Godrick still hadn't really recovered from killing Vicky, but he knew his moral dilemma would not come into play with the older Salvatore vampire.
