heyyo! It's me again...after quite a long time I know...Yeah yeah F you too...
A month ago, I barely recognized my own street...I guess I couldn't see the road in the midst of all the people.. - RAP
The [Check] almost took me by surprise. There were no extra details after that. I had no issue with the upcoming tests since I had [Read] the first-year Potions book. I could tell everything recipe verbatim which also is a problem.
I had noticed a very interesting fact about my cheat. There was a new page dedicated to my magical knowledge but there was something that bothered me.
Subjects:
Charms Lv. 0/10
Transfiguration Lv. 0/10
Defense against the Dark arts Lv. 0/10
Potions Lv. 1/10
Astronomy Lv. 1/10
History Of Magic Lv. 2/10
Herbology Lv. 1/10
It was a compilation of all subjects that I had read about. I knew most of the first-year knowledge regarding the subjects and yet I hadn't gained any levels in any other subjects other than History.
This led me to believe that all the other subjects actually needed me to get the practical experience before they could be considered level'd up.
Also, it only told me of the subjects taught to first-years. The other subjects like Runes and Care of Magical Creatures weren't shown even though I knew they existed.
Maybe it differentiates by year, I would have to read something about the other subjects before I can understand more. The levels were also weird since I didn't see any notification or any title when History of Magic level'd up.
I couldn't see the benefits but I didn't see any demerits either. I couldn't have any practical experience with the Charms, Transfiguration, or DADA since well I didn't have magic but from History, I think making potions will count as experience which could level Potions up.
While I was thinking about this, Snape had entered, reached the board and with a swish of his wand, words appeared.
'Antidote to Common Poisons'
"As all of you have understood by now, Potions is a subject only for the talented which are quite rare.", his eyes remained on Draco to which Draco smiled, "For others of...inept aptitude, they may find themselves struggling.", his stare on Harry seemed obvious.
I smiled at his childish antics. Harry looked downtrodden while Ron glared at Draco.
"Nonetheless, today you will be preparing an Antidote. An easy concoction. Turn to Page 74 and begin."
The Slytherins' rapidly fluttered their books to the designated page and started piling up the required materials. Gryffindors had no choice but to follow through.
I didn't need to turn the page since I had [Read], the instructions were clear in my head as if they were printed in. My hands moved excitedly and I turned on the burner to start potioneering.
For a second, I stopped since the instructions clearly said that I had to wave my wand over the cauldron while creating it and that too twice. I thought that waving a wand might be some way to influence the magic around to affect the potion but since I didn't have magic, I didn't know if it would work.
I looked up to find Snape to ask him but he didn't seem there. I looked around to find him peering at me with hawk-like eyes.
"Mr. Dastaan, McGonagall has informed me of your malady."
"Please call me Dastaan, Professor."
"I see Mr. Potter has already had an effect on your...intelligence. Why is your book not open, Mr. Dastaan?"
"I do not need the book to remember it's content. I remember everything in the book.", I stated simply.
"Is that so?", a sneer appeared on his face. "Then tell me, Mr. Dastaan what do you add after Restle roots while simultaneously turning clock-wise thrice?"
I mimicked an innocent smile, "It's bezoar and you have to only turn it twice. The direction doesn't matter."
"Hmm", was the only answer I got before he shuffle'd out of sight.
His voice came behind him, "You do not need a wand for potion making as I have said before. Continue as is."
I knew he phrased it in such a way but that was the answer to my 'malady', so to say.
I smiled and spoke in a loud voice, "Thank you, Professor for the advice."
The class stilled for a second, the air stagnating for a second while I continued the potion making ignoring the glare Snape gave me behind my back.
The slytherins were slack-jawed but you could fit a quaffle inside Gryfindor's students open mouth.
Fifteen minuted later I bottled the potion while the rest of the class was still finishing up. Seeing as I had nothing to do, I helped Neville who had somehow ended up with a white foam forming over his potion.
I didn't know where he had gone wrong but after asking him, he honestly told me that he had just did as the instructions said.
"Hmm..Maybe you added something more rather than less..", I asked trying to help.
"I don't know, when Snape came near me, I might have accidently added a few extra slices of mulborn leaves..I think.", came the answer.
"There you have it, I think it would be best if you started anew. As far as I know, extra mulborn would incite the bezoar and make the potion a poison..sort of.."
"Five points from Gryfindor. Mr. Longbottom, you would do well to first read the recipe properly.", Snape's voice came behind me. I almost jumped at the sudden voice but barely managed to control myself while also stopping Neville from almost throwing away his potion.
Neville looked down at his feat while I stared at Snape, "Professor, if you don't mind me questioning; how did you do that?"
Before Snape could answer I continued, "A silence charm..you must be great at Charms then."
For a second Snape froze, his eyes stared wide at me. His wand moved before the swishing of his cloak was back and he decidedly ignored me.
I smiled at his back while nudging Neville who still looked down.
"Hey Neville, what happened? why are you still looking down?"
"I made a mistake again."
"That you did. An irresponsible mistake too..", he looked at me in surprise.
"Then...so what?", his eyes grew even more surprised and even the Gryfindor's surrounding me started looking at me. Ignoring their stares I kept my eyes on Snape as he stood before the class peering at everyone like an eagle.
"This is a school, right? We are allowed to make as many mistakes as possible here, aren't we?" , I looked at Neville with a smile.
"What did you think Professor Snape just suddenly became a Potion Master out of the blue?", I even nudged my head at Snape.
"He must have hundreds nah thousands of such mistakes before standing where he stands. So...make as many mistakes as you can, until one day at the end of it all you can say to his face, 'Thank you for teaching me.' ",I said as I looked at my potion.
Neville looked at me and then at this Potion. The other Gryfindor's near me looked at me in silence almost forgetting their potions.
Thud! The sound awoke the stupefied students.
"Ten points from Gryfindor for disturbing the class. Mr. Dastaan if you have finished your potion, submit it and then you may leave."
I smiled as I gathered my things, nodded towards Neville and made my way towards him, "I am sorry, Professor. Here, please check it."
He took my potion to his eye level, shook it, considered for a while before softly saying, "Passable."
I smiled at him cause I already heard a familiar page turning sound in my head. I turned and until I left the class I could feel Snape's gaze behind my back.
Since I still had about half an hour to go to the next class, I wondered around trying to see if there were other secrets around (which I am sure there were!)
A passing Raveclaw Senior caught me snooping around, "Oh, A first year, isn't this your class time?"
"Yes it is", I answered while staring at the nearby painting.
"Then what are you doing roaming the corridors?", the guy asked while looking behind me.
"Just looking around.", I answered simply.
"What about your class then?"
"Oh, Potions.", I answered.
"No, I meant why aren't you in your class?", he sounded almost frustrated.
"Oh..I finished Potions and Professor Snape let me off early."
"Professor Snape did what!", the boy's voice alerted his classmates which soon congregated around me.
"What is this I hear? Snape let you off early.", another senior guy asked.
"Yeah, that's what I said."
"But that's impossible. Snape's never let anybody early.", another boy pointed out.
"Well it's clearly possible since I stand before you, having left my class early.", I pointed at myself.
"What is happening here?", a stern voice asked and the growing crowd immediately thinned. I saw Professor Mcgonagall walking towards me. I waved at her and smiled.
"Mr. Dastaan what are you doing outside during classes?"
"Professor Snape let me go early in Potions."
For a fraction of a second, I saw her eyes widen in astonishment before she became solemn again.
"What did you do?", her question almost reprimanding.
"I didn't do anything, Professor. I completed my potion before the other students and while I was talking to Neville, Professor Snape allowed me to go."
"And..?"
"Well he did deduct 10 points and rated my potion as passable.", I shrugged at her.
She remained silent for a second before she said ,"Hmm...then you might want to hurry to your next class which I assume would be..Charms."
"Yes, I think I will do that. See you in Transfiguration, Professor.", I nodded and left toward Charms.
I didn't think that the diminutive Professor would be present but I could just read some books to pass the time.
"Did you guys see that? Snape just let him go..just like that.", Ron whispered the moment he stepped out of potions.
"Yeah, I have never seen Snape not yell at me in a class before.", Harry quipped.
"Think of all the trouble he has caused already. Snape directly deducted 10 points because of him.", Hermione interjected.
"Well...he did earn plenty of points in other classes.", Neville answered timidly.
"That he did.", Harry affirmed.
"Let's go find him, he must be in Charms right now.", Hermione said taking the lead.
The other Gryfindor's hurried along behind the quartet.
When they reached the Charms classroom though, they heard a loud bang go of inside. Surprised they made their way in to find the Charms Professor Flitwick with his wand out and almost all of the furniture in the class suspended in mid-air. Dastaan stood against him with his wand.
He almost seemed to be facing off against an army as he stood in front of it all. Seeing the surprised faces of the students that had entered his class, Flitwick brandished his wand and the furniture started returning back to their places.
"Professor..."
"No need to be concerned. Mr Dastaan and I were just discussing a rather innovative topic.", the joyful Professor answered Hermione.
"What topic?", Hermione asked confused.
"That will have to wait until we complete it, isn't that right Professor?", I interjected carrying some drawing sheets that we had placed aside at the beginning.
"Of course, Mr. Dastaan. As you wish.", Professor admitted. "Okay then, lets begin the class, shall we?"
I spend the charms lesson trying to futiley dodge Hermione's and the rest of the class's stares. After it ended, the rest of the gang immediately hounded me.
"What did you do? First in Potions and now in Charms..", Harry asked obviously curious.
"What are you talking about? It was Neville", I pointed at the chubby boy trailing us," who asked me a question and I answered. I didn't know what happened to Snape or why he let me go?"
"As for Prof. Flitwick, I read somewhere that he was a dueling champion once and that got us talking..."
"with wands..", Hermione tried to add.
"...as a means of presentation okay. We weren't fighting, okay.", I shrugged at the still curious bunch
Deciding to change the topic, I asked aloud ,"I wonder what elves will make today?"
"Don't change the topic.", Hermione said but didn't press me for answers.
I whistled while we made our way downstairs to the Great Hall. The matters of the class were of course not forgotten so easily as even during Lunch I heard some students talking about how I 'talked back to Snape and we almost ended up fighting' or how I 'and Prof. Flitwick almost had a duel if it were not for the students to arrive.'
I snickered at those rumors that said that I had been expelled and that his was my last lunch.
'Hogwarts rumor mill is as formidable as written...', I thought to myself.
"Snape's staring at you.", Ron poked me.
"I know, most of the class is. Here try this, it's delicious.", I added while passing him another plate of some desert that I didn't know the name of.
"Doesn't Malfoy look extra pissed today?", Harry said since he sat facing the Slytherin's side.
"Yeah well, I did act like Harry Potter the first time we meet and made a fool of him so there's that.", I waved at him.
"Oh yeah...I remember now", Harry exclaimed while smiling.
"Could you please stop pissing people off wherever you meet?", Hermione interjected from besides Harry.
"Oh..you actually mean the Professor's, right?", I smirked at her while she glared at me.
Thinking of Dumbledore, I turned towards the Teacher's seats but didn't find him there. It seemed that this old man didn't ever have lunch. I saw Flitwick animatedly talking with Mcgonagall (no doubt about our little project) and even smiled at Snape who frowned and ignored me.
The next lesson seemed the most exciting to first years : Flying. At first I did have a form of anticipation towards this thing but due to my particular affliction, that feeling soon turned into disappointment.
According to Madam Hooch, a broomstick had to had a magical connection with its rider to properly fly which in my case; would not happen so I was exempted from this class until my condition stabilized. Which meant to me that I couldn't fly for my first year.
"Don't worry, you will be able to fly next year.", Harry added as if to cheer me.
"Yeah, mate.", Ron added.
"No need to stop on my part. Go on and have fun.", I shrugged at them helplessly.
I stared at the smiling trio especially Hermione who seemed to find my disappointment particularly hilarious. I could spend my time in the library but I opted to sit a little sideways from the group of students standing besides their broomsticks.
I didn't want to miss this part, in fact I didn't want to miss any part of this story. I also had yet to see my reward for the abrupt [Check]. With a single thought, the book opened up to another blank page which started filling.
[Check is complete]
[As a reward, you may chose any one potion that you have to make a permanent Record]
After reading the page, I let out a gasp. Permanent [Record] would allow me to use any potion that I had chosen to be used as I wished when I wished without any repercussions whatsoever. That meant for example, I could chose the Polyjuice Potion which would then allow me to be in disguise as long as I wish though I would still have to have others DNA to do that.
The reason it blew my mind was that I remembered the only overpowered potion with equally overpowered drawbacks used in the Harry Potter universe : Felix Felicis i.e Liquid Luck.
If I could get my hand on just one bottle somehow, then Luck would be my bitch figuratively. In fact I could very well become the greatest wizard of all times just with it.
But that is impossible, I am sure the market price of Felix Felicis would be astronomical and even if I had the money, that wouldn't mean I get one. There would be loads of people running for it but I had to have it; it's always better to have luck on your side.
" ..", the voice broke my reverie and for some reason I got a chill on my back.
I turned to see someone looking at me from the castle window, I couldn't make out who but I got distracted by the helpless screaming of Neville.
I saw as his broom hijacked itself and took him for a wild ride. His luck (or was it Rowling?) allowed him to get stuck and free fall down on the ground which only resulted in him breaking his wrist. Seeing him whimpering almost made me feel bad as to why I hadn't done something to help him.
I couldn't.
I had thought about all this, my nature, my knowledge and myself.
'This world..this story it was different', I looked as Hooch took Neville away and Draco found the Remembral.
'My being here has already started something, something that would definetely come to bite me in the ass in the future but for now' , I looked at Harry who zipped out to accept Draco's challenge.
"I quite like it just being here.."
