"I'm still scared," she admits as she tucks her face into his neck.
"It's okay to be scared. We'll get through this. Do you want some tea," Dave asks. "I'm going to start dinner. Then we can start a fire and sit outside for a little while."
He pulls away from her and moves towards the refrigerator as Penelope stands dumbfounded.
"Tea? Dinner? Are you kidding me? How can you think about food when someone has tried to kill me?!"
Dave looks back at her. "We have to eat, Kitten."
"Don't you Kitten me! How can you suggest we sit outside? What if someone is lurking in the bushes," she demands.
Dave sighs and puts the ingredients in his hands on the counter. He steps back over to Penelope. "Sweetheart, unless someone followed us the four hundred plus miles we just drove, no one knows where we are," he points out.
"Bob does," she growls.
"You think Bob, the park maintenance guy, is out to get you," he says sarcastically.
She smacks his chest. "Don't laugh at me!"
He grabs her hands and pulls her close. "No one is laughing at you."
"Then why aren't you doing something?"
He frowns and glances back at the kitchen area. "I was about to…"
"Do something to find the guy trying to kill me," she shouts. "Do your freaking job!"
Dave steps back, his demeanor changes from placating to stern. "That's not my job anymore and you're overreacting."
She trembles. "Overreacting? I'm overreacting? Frak you, David Rossi."
She stomps past him into the sleeping area and slams the door shut. Dave rolls his eyes and stares at the ceiling. He drops his eyes to the dog laying under the table.
"It was definitely something I said," he tells the dog.
He puts the food back in the fridge and heads outside leaving JJ in the RV. He walks away from the firepit and looks around. A few campsites have fires going and the sound of the ocean flows softly in the distance.

Inside the RV, Penelope sits on the edge of the bed tears flow down her cheeks. She pulls out her phone and speed dials a number.
"Hey Baby Girl, what's happening little Mama? How are you," Derek says into the phone.
"I don't know," she wails. She cries uncontrollably.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Settle down," Derek says soothingly. He waits patiently as she cries herself out. "Catch your breath. Take it easy."
She takes a few shuddery breathes and tries to calm herself. "I'm so scared," she whispers.
"What are you scared of sweetheart?"
"Someone tried to kill me, and David doesn't care," she says as she starts to cry again.
"Come on, now. Keep it together. What do you mean someone tried to kill you," he asks.
"The mechanic said the brakes on my car were tampered with," she explains. "And something about the car vibrator."
"Car vibrator," he questions.
"Yeah. You know, the thingy that the gas pedal is hooked up to," she says in frustration.
Derek chuckles lightly. "The carburetor?"
"That's it," she shouts. "What did I say?"
"You called it a vibrator," he laughs.
She laughs for a moment too. "I don't know about cars, electronics yes, cars, no."
"I get it," Derek tells her. "Where are you? Are you safe? Does the FBI know about this?"
"I'm with David. In the middle of nowhere on the way to Florida," she replies. "And yes, Emily knows. The FBI is taking over the investigation."
"Good. Now what's this about Dave not caring that someone is trying to kill you?"
"I may have overreacted about that," she mumbles.
"What did you do?"
She sighs and flops back on the bed. "Nothing."
"Penelope."
"I swear," she retorts. After a moment she releases another sigh. "Okay, fine. I freaked out a bit. But that's to be expected isn't it?"
"Sure," he agrees.
"It wasn't that big of a deal, I just… how can he act like nothing is happening and fix dinner?!"
"Baby Girl, what did you want him to do," Derek asks. "He's not in the FBI anymore. And you just said you guys are in the middle of nowhere. Why are you going to Florida?"
She moans. "David needs to do some research for his book. He rented an RV so I could come with him."
"Well, that sounds very nice," Derek says. "Also, it gets you out of harms way. If someone really is trying to kill you - and I'm not saying they aren't, then getting out of the DC area for a while is a good idea. It will give Emily and the rest of the FBI time to figure out what is really going on."
She stares at the pictures she hung on the wall in the bedroom area. There are a few of her and David, his parents and other various family members as well as her own brothers and their families. She had done her best to make the RV their home away from home.
David loves her. He finally said it aloud, though she knew he loved her long ago. Would he still love her even though she freaked out at the first sign of trouble? She snorts quietly and shakes her head. They've known each other for a long time, he knows that she freaks out over scary situations, why would that scare him off now? She was still acting cray-cray. "So, I should probably go out and apologize?"
"That's a good place to start," Derek agrees. "Dave's trying to take care of you the best way he knows how, and trust me, he knows what he's doing. You need to trust him."
She sits up. "I do."
"Good. Now, how's your hand?"
She holds up her casted left hand and stares at it. "It doesn't hurt as much and it hasn't started to itch."
"That's the worst part," he says.
"I'm not looking forward to it," she says in return. "Thanks, D. For bringing me off the edge."
"Always Mama. If you need me to come out there and be with you, my bag is already packed."
She smiles. "I love you, Derek. But I think my Italiano Stallone wouldn't be enthusiastic."
Derek laughs. "Go wash your face and comb your hair. Then go apologize."
Penelope hangs up the phone and follows his instructions. She goes into the small bathroom and washes the tears and the stress off her face. She grabs her favorite brush and gives her hair a good run through.
"I look like a crazy lady," she mutters to herself in the mirror. Grabbing her lipstick, she gives herself a fresh coat. One last look and she heads out to find her man.
JJ lays sound asleep under the table, which is, apparently the dog's safe zone. The three cats perch in different positions on the bunk above the driving area. BG lay sprawled on his back, sound asleep. Emily sat upright and blinked at her, while Penelope had all four paws under her. Penelope chirps as the human Penelope walks into the area.
"Don't you guys look comfy," Penelope replies. "Is your Daddy still outside?"
Penelope chirps again, while Emily blinks once and BG lets out a small wheezy snore.
"That's very helpful. Thanks."
Penelope opens the door of the RV and peers out into the darkness. The fire hasn't been started and there is no movement, for a moment she feels panic building.
"David," she calls out hesitantly.
"Yes," he replies from the right.
She squints in that direction and sees the red glow of the tip of his cigar. She steps out of the RV and closes the door. A shiver runs up her spine as a cool breeze flows through the area.
"I thought you were going to start a fire," she says.
"Now you want a fire," he half questions.
"I like sitting by the campfire."
He sighs and takes a puff on his cigar.
She shrugs in the darkness as she approaches him. "I'm sorry for freaking out on you. You don't deserve that," she says quietly.
"Thank you," he says in return. After a few seconds, he speaks again. "I'm sorry too. I know this whole situation has you unnerved, and I should have been aware of that and not ignore it. Forgive me?"
She wraps her arms around his torso. "Only if you forgive me first."
"Done," he says. He leans down and kisses her. As much as she hates smoking of any kind, she doesn't mind the taste of his cigars when he kisses her.
Both of their stomachs growl at the same time. They break apart laughing.
"I probably should have listened to you when you offered to make food," she tells him.
"I can make something now," he says he says with a shrug.
"How about I make some sandwiches and you get the fire going," she suggests.
"You sure?"
She nods. "I know you won't let Bob come and do me any harm."
Dave smiles. "Or anyone else."
They kiss again before Penelope heads back to the RV. She makes Dave a turkey sandwich with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes and makes a veggie sandwich for herself, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, and avocado.

Dave and Penelope sit next to each other on the picnic bench with their backs to the fire as they look out over what they think is the ocean. The moon has yet to rise for the night, however the stars are in full force blanketing the sky.
Dave puts his arm around her shoulder and pulls her close. She leans her head on his shoulder.
"I don't think I've ever seen so many stars in my life," Penelope says wistfully.
"No? What about when we were in Alaska," he asks.
She shakes her head, not taking her eyes off the sky. "I never took the time to look up."
"Maybe we should go back," he suggests.
This time she looks at him with a glare. "I don't think so."
"Hmm. I could take you to Montana," he murmurs. "The wide-open spaces."
"And the bears, and coyotes and whatever other wild animals," she growls. "Hard pass for me. This is perfect."
He nods and smiles. "Wherever you are is perfect for me."
She grins. "Sweet talker."
"It's getting late. Should we go to bed?"
"Yeah," she agrees. "It's been an eventful day."
He helps her to her feet. "I'll bank the fire and take JJ for another stroll."
"Alright, my love, I'll see you inside in a few."
She kisses him and heads inside the RV. She gives each of the kitties a few pets. JJ comes out from under the table, stretches then sits next to Penelope and leans into her leg. Penelope scratches her ear for a moment.
"Be patient JJ. Daddy's going to take you out," she tells the young dog.
The door opens and Dave steps inside. "Thought you'd be in the back."
"I was saying good night to the babies," she tells him.
He snorts. "Okay."
Dave picks up JJ's leash. The dog begins to bounce up and down in anticipation. Dave struggles to get the leash attached. "Hold on," he growls. "Settle down."
"She's been cooped up in here all day," Penelope says. She reaches down and tries to help keep the dog in place. "She may not like traveling. She has spent the day under the table."
"True," Dave agrees. "I haven't taken her on many trips since I got her."
"Maybe we should have bought some doggie Dramamine at the pet store," she replies.
Dave looks at her questioningly.
"What," she asks. "It's a thing."
He shakes his head and stands as JJ bolts for the door. "We'll see if we can get some in town tomorrow. Alright, JJ. Let's go outside."
They go outside, closing the door firmly. Penelope heads for the sleeping area. She digs through the drawers looking for her sleepwear. A frown creases her face as she can't locate anything.
"Did I not pack a nightie," she asks herself. She searches all the drawers a second time before checking the empty suitcases in the closest. "Well, frak! Guess I'll be sleeping au natural. I'm sure David won't mind."
She heads to the bathroom to do her business and clean herself up for the night, washing her face and hands, brushing teeth and hair. She finishes just as she hears Dave and JJ return. She exits the bathroom.
"She doing okay," Penelope asks.
Dave nods. "She was fine. Ran around the dog pen like crazy before doing her business."
"I can't blame her."
"Me either," he says as he eyes her. "I thought you were getting ready for bed."
"I just washed my face and stuff. I'm going to change now."
"Let me take my boots off," he sighs. "I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Okey dokey."
She walks into the sleeping area and closes the door before quickly slipping out of her clothes and under the covers. She wiggles to the far side of the bed and pulls the covers up under her chin. She listens as Dave talks to the animals before going into the bathroom.
A few minutes later, the door to the sleeping area opens and Dave steps inside.
"You look cozy," he says to her as he begins undressing.
"I'm a little cold," she admits.
"Want me to turn the heat up?"
"Nah," she smiles. "I'll do it."
She throws the covers back and wiggles her eyebrows at him. "I forgot to bring a nightie, wanna keep me warm?"
Dave grins at her as he quickly strips and joins her in the bed. "Oh, hell yeah."
He kisses her hard before sliding his lips down the side of her neck, one hand fondles her exposed breasts.
"You forgot to turn the lights off," she tells him.
He groans. "Don't move!"
Dave rolls over and turns off the light before rolling back to her. He grasps her waist and pulls her closer. "Now, where was I?"
She pushes him onto his back and straddles his hips. "I think I was about to turn up the thermostat," she replies as she leans down and kisses him.
She moans as both of his hands envelope her breasts, softly stroking and squeezing her flesh. He pinches each nipple hard enough to make her back arch. She can feel the electricity from her nipples through her body to her clit.
"I hope you're ready," she whispers in his ear. "I'm going to ride you so hard the springs on this RV might give out."
"Lucky me," he murmurs as she begins to nibble her way down his neck. She stops to suck the tender skin at the base of his neck where it connects to his shoulder.
Wiggling down his body, her breasts scrape across his chest and stomach evoking a groan from his throat. He moves his hands to her shoulders, up the sides of her neck and into her hair as her mouth leaves a wet trail while she licks and nibbles her way down past his abdomen. One thing she had discovered about David Rossi was his high sensitivity to touch. She stops and gently licks the rim of his belly button causing him to squirm and moan.
In response, she slides her ample breasts across his erection. His hips buck pressing his erection against her chest.
"You're going to be the death of me," he growls.
She chuckles and dips her tongue into the belly button. He jumps. The muscles in his stomach tense. She moves lower, sucking at the soft skin of his belly. She sits up and runs her hands up and down his torso. Her fingernails gently scrape his skin.
"Kitten," he pleads hoarsely.
"Yes, darling?"
"Please," he moans as he reaches for her.
She grabs one of his hands in hers and pulls it to her face, then kisses his palm and the back of his knuckles as they lock eyes. His other hand drops to her knee. With a sly smile, she licks the tip of one finger before sucking it into her mouth. His erection bobs as she sucks and licks his finger.
"You're such a fucking tease," he gasps.
She pops the finger out of her mouth. "I learned it from you."
"Well then, I'm a fucking tease too."
That makes her laugh heartily. She inches her knees higher up his hips to align their genitals. Dave reaches between her thighs his fingers probe her wetness. She moans loudly and twitches her hips. He removes his hand and lines himself up to her entrance, slowly she lowers herself over him causing them both to moan.
He grasps her hips and helps steady her as she bounces up and down. He drives his hips up as she comes down. It doesn't take long for either of them to succumb to their passion as they orgasm. Penelope stops moving and stiffens as Dave continues to drive up into her. She gasps and trembles as waves of pleasure flow through her body.
Her body softens, going limp as Dave thrusts upward one last time and comes inside her. He wraps his arms around her holding her tight as his hips twitch against her. A few moments later, his grasp loosens, she rolls off him onto her back gasping for air.
As they lay entwined catching their collective breath, Dave begins to chuckle.
"What's so funny," Penelope asks as she pokes him in the side.
He looks at her and smiles. "I never thought at my age that there would be any more firsts in my life," he explains. "However, this is the first time I've ever had sex in an RV."
"Huh," she replies thoughtfully. "Me either."
"Wow, thinking about it this day has been full of firsts," he continues.
She turns on her side to look at him. "What else was a first for you?"
"Other than the test drive at the dealership, it was my first time driving an RV. The first time I've backed up an RV. The first time hooking it up. First time staying in an RV park," he lists. He looks at her and smiles lovingly. "It's our first vacation together. It's the first vacation for the pets too."
"Mmm," she hums.
"It's the first time I told you, I love you."
"That's my favorite part," she smiles.
"We had our first fight," he continues. "It was brutal too. One of the worst I've ever been in."
She raises an eyebrow at his teasing. "Just wait until I'm really mad at you."
He leans over and kisses her forehead. "I hope to never make you mad. I know you were scared, and my reaction didn't help."
"Well, you've made a good start at making it up to me," she concedes teasingly.
"I promise to make it up to you for the rest of my life."
She reaches up and caresses his chin. "And I hope that will be for a very long time."
"Me too, Kitten. Me too."
They snuggle together and drift off to sleep.
