"Outside, the ocean was crashing, waves hitting sand, then pulling back to sea. I thought of everything being washed away, again and again. We make such messes in this life, both accidentally and on purpose. But wiping the surface clean doesn't really make anything neater. It just masks what is below. It's only when you really dig down deep, go underground, that you can see who you really are."
-Sarah Dessen
Whether Godric wanted speechless submission or not, he acquired it from his mate. He received flinches and shaking as well. The sour scent of fear poured from Callum if Godric shifted too quickly or raised his voice higher than its usual tone, the human always recoiled, shoulders hunching and features facing the ground.
His mate's reactions nearly dove Godric mad. Insane enough to snarl and intimidate the human, craving a reaction other than weak fear. Only backing away and reevaluating the situation when Callum shielded himself away from his imposing shape.
His gaze fell on the piles of gold his mother gifted Daidus that she brought back from sunken vessels. Perhaps he should do the same for his companion. It was customary to give gifts to mates. Suggestions circled his mind while he studied the lowered gaze of Callum.
"Come here, mate." He commanded, testing the human. Desiring for Callum to buck up with his fierce, vibrant eyes and shake his head. He wanted to witness the fire he had unintentionally demolished.
The mortal instantly climbed to his feet rather and shuffled over to him, trembling noticed in his lowered shoulders. Godric clenched his jaw, huffing a disappointed exhale through his sharp teeth.
"I will return soon. Behave."
The hybrid didn't want Callum to behave, not this time. He wanted him to do something, anything to spark the inner flame that had burned hot within him. The human didn't reply, and Godric didn't expect him to. Callum hadn't spoken for days. After a tense period, Godric reached for him, anticipating the flinch but still stiffening when Callum did exactly what he expected. He pushed through the shame and trailed his knuckles over his mate's cheekbone with silent apologies before pulling away, turning on his heel, and departing the cottage.
He trailed over the rocky coast, leading to deeper waters before diving into the comforting sea. Surrounded by blue, he felt his essence desiring to change into his original form and he allowed the transformation to begin. The pain traveled under his skin and his bones shifted in his lower body. Godric screamed, his body twisting and flailing for an agonizing eternity before he finally settled in the tranquil, underwater world. With ideas for gifts in mind, he swam for the nearest, sunken vessel, half-buried in the seafloor.
He found nothing, nothing worth carrying back. Possibly nothing intriguing enough to hold the attention of his reserved mate. Godric searched other wreckages, mercury eyes inspecting dark corners of the haunting insides of the wooden graves, flaring up with a threatening poster when a curious shark (Hammerhead) swam to close. It immediately turned fin, circling back from where it came, and Godric continued with his mission, calm and rummaging through piles of junk once again.
By the time he finished, he was frustrated and grim. There was nothing here that would allow him back into Callum's good graces.
He could woo him. Flustration immediately caused the side of his tail to bang against the hard, corroded wall, positioned in a tight passageway. The wreckage rumbled in response and Godric pondered uncaringly, ignoring the low groaning of metal and steel. Wooing would not work without gifts and he knew nothing of courting! He had never seen a male Undine court another. Godric had never discovered another male nymph in the first place. Soruns were out of the question in the art of pursuing. They were nothing but beasts, colder than him when it came to sensitivities. Sometimes, Soruns would eat their own young. Even he, couldn't be that heinous.
His mother courted her human, didn't she? Or was it the other way around? He should have paid more attention. Perhaps he could find gifts more fascinating in the vessel he had just destroyed a few days ago...days ago when he tore his mate's throat open, almost killing Callum while entangled within his anger and instincts.
When he did find curious things, Godric couldn't carry all the items he had discovered inside the recently sunken vessel, not in one trip, so he had to travel back and forth, dumping the gifts on the coast of the island before swimming back and collecting more. His mind couldn't recognize the unusual items he grabbed but he hoped Callum would like some of them. It took most of the day for Godric to be satisfied enough with the collection. Plus, it was the fact that he was exhausted and would have to transform at least a final time while depleted.
The transformation occurred under the waves, drowning out his pained screams, and when it was eventually finished. The hybrid crawled onto the vivid sunset, painted seaside, trembling and queasy.
He pushed himself to his feet, mercury eyes lifting to peer at the cottage across from him. "Callum?" Godric called, excited at the notion of his mate's reaction to the pile of oddities he found.
When the other didn't respond or even appear from the entranceway of the dwelling, Godric immediately became uneasy.
The hybrid pushed his legs into action and ran toward the stoned structure, passing through the entrance, mercury blues scanned the interior, coming to a halt on a shape bundled under old blankets above him. Godric relaxed, breathing a deep inhale with relief. His mate was only slumbering.
He easily climbed into the small space, gripping the thick material and pulling it down Callum's form, his eyes immediately traced peaceful features of the resting human. Mercury colored orbs fell and examined the mating mark located in the junction of his companion's neck and shoulder. His Undine blood had finished restoring the injury but it couldn't fix days' worth of scarring, and it scarred beautifully. Godric leaned down and licked a line across rough skin, appreciating the tingling of his tongue when it confronted the scarred flesh of his mate.
Callum was pulled out of sleep by his cock stirring in the confines of his shorts. The masculine moan escaped his lips before he could stop it, his body was tingling with ripples of pleasure, and warmth immediately pooled in his abdomen. The impression of a warm tongue traced the uneven scars, and Callum pulled taut against the purring siren at his back.
"I have gifts for you." Godric rumbled after giving Callum's scars a final lick. The teenager remained stiff and quiet, imprisoned in his heightening fear and arousal. "Come, mate."
And Godric was pulling away. Hazel colored eyes glanced out of his peripheral vision, observing the siren jump down from the loft. He shrouded himself with whatever courage he had remaining and unhurriedly followed the creature. Using the latter, unlike Godric.
His eyes were examining the dark ink that coated Godric's spine while the siren led him outside, leading him to the coast. It looked like a serpent.
Callum stopped when the siren did. "For you," Godric commented before stepping around a pile of items. The siren now faced him, scrutinizing his expression with eerie eyes while Callum crouched down and picked up a can of sweetened corn with one hand, he held it up to the maneater standing above him, back facing the sea.
Opening his mouth, he faltered, hazel green eyes detecting the siren's features shift into enthusiasm. "Do you know what this is?" Callum finally inquired, his voice low and raspy while striving to ignore Godric's heavy erection between his legs.
"No, tell me."
Callum's characteristics twisted into confusion from Godric's passionate voice and gleaming eyes.
"It's corn."
"What is corn?"
"...Food." Dropping the can among others, he searched through the pile, pulling out a can of pears next.
"Oh, do you like this corn?"
"It's alright. It's good when it's seasoned with salt and pepper. And creole spices."
"Salt? From the ocean?"
Callum broke out into a laugh, peering his gaze toward the siren, who stared down at him with large, mercury eyes, a peculiar look on his face. "Not exactly."
Callum dug through the pile, excited when his stare fell on multiple bottles of body wash. There were four, one not yet opened. Callum swiveled his gaze up to the siren.
"Thank you." He beamed, it quickly fell away though, his brow furrowing when Godric's shoulders unwound and the siren breathed an exhale with relief.
"You forgive me then?"
The teenager froze, fingers wrapped around the bottles. That's what this was all about? Godric wanted forgiveness for almost killing him. For massacring the innocent men on the fishing boat. Anger surged through the teenager. Forgiveness wasn't that simple. "You almost killed me, you killed innocent men." He was growling, glaring up at the creature with resentment. Godric's expression darkened with aggression for a moment. Answering Callum's challenge before the mood fell away, replaced with distress.
The teenager's jaw almost dropped when the siren's shoulders bowed under his glare instead.
"I am...sorry."
Godric was hissing out through a tight jaw, appearing scolded. "I didn't kill the humans. The other Sorun did."
"But you called them, didn't you?"
Godric remained quiet for a moment before, "Yes."
"You told me, it was my fault. You've done nothing but make me fear you. You've achieved your wish...congratulations, you terrify me."
He cringed when Godric rushed to his side, the siren kneeled beside him and was speaking frantically.
"I don't want you to fear me. I want. I want you to. To—" The siren cut himself off, his mercury irises flickered away from Callum's. Glaring to the side, at nothing with a tense jaw.
Callum pondered for a minute, over Godric's unusual behavior before deciding to use its new, unexpected demeanor to his advantage. "You want my forgiveness?" Callum breathed his question, utterly unsettled when Godric's expressive eyes latched back onto his.
"Then bring me more items like this, from recently sunken ships." Mercury eyes were illuminated with dedication. "And stop being cruel."
"I promise."
"I won't give you any more chances after this." Callum urged, needing the threat to work.
"At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet." — Plato
Godric brought him back wet notebooks that he was able to dry out in the sun. He had explained what an ink pen was to the confused siren until he was blue in the face. Relieved when Godric finally found a couple and brought them back. Once the pen and paper were dry, he counted the days. Days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months.
The siren fetched him bundles of wet clothes, scissors, and nail clippers. A sealed jar of peanut butter, jewelry, and a drowned watch. And deodorant, an item he was so thankful for. Godric disliked it, told Callum multiple times that it and the soap covered his natural scent.
He'd clip Godric's claws if he didn't acknowledge that the siren needed them to defend himself in the dangerous ocean.
Godric was different. It wasn't that he had changed, no one truly changed. Not in such a quick time, at least. Callum only understood that he wasn't as tough on the inside as he would have liked to appear. One day, he brought him vivid colored shells and pearls, and Callum responded, full of teasing sarcasm. "What do you expect me to do with that?" He watched with confusion when the naked siren snarled with frustration and stormed off, practically stomping back into the sea.
He caught Godric ogling him with hopelessness occasionally when he worked on fixing the holes in the fishing net that he found in the cottage, months ago. Callum was growing taller, his skin remained tanned, sun-kissed, and more freckles appeared on the bridge of his nose. Shoulders as well, since he walked around most days without a shirt. His hair grew longer, reaching his shoulders, and he scraped unwanted stubble from his face with a sharp blade and soap.
He also fixed the holes in the roof of the cottage, not interested in the tropical storms pouring rain into his home.
Godric no longer slumbered his nights in the ocean, he pursued the taller man into the cottage and curled around him, which the human allowed. Callum was thankful that Godric labored as hard as he did to bring back items that they could use. The bedding in the loft was replaced with clean sheets and blankets that he demanded Godric drag back, only for him to wash with soap and dry for hours after.
He never replaced the door on the cottage. Instead, he hung up a thin blue, gold-trimmed tapestry, allowing the scent of the ocean to enter the dwelling. He tore up another, smaller fishing net, Godric had found, to create sun catchers made out of shells, pearls, and sea glass when he was bored and was in need of passing time. Godric ultimately brought back wet candles and an underwater flashlight that still had battery life, which Callum saved for emergencies.
When the holes in the hefty, fishing net were repaired, he fashioned it in between two palm trees, constructing a hammock for his lazy naps. Callum had noticed Godric's nudity more with each passing day and he blamed the isolation and his hormones, exploring a pretty, tattooed physique most days before embarrassment caught up with his wondering eyes. When he had enough of his lecherous thoughts, he endeavored to wrestle oversized clothes onto the siren, who immediately climbed out of them and fled for the ocean, leaving a panting Callum shouting profanities on the beach.
He hooted with excitement when Godric brought him a tin container of sealed chocolate. Callum had torn the plastic off and opened the tin-top to reveal chocolate covered almonds. Ate a few with an appreciative moan before turning and smooshing the alarmed face of Godric between his palms, pulling the siren's naked, wet form against him and giving him a big smooch on full lips.
He turned away, stuffing his mouth with more almonds, the reality of what he did had caught up with him, and Callum strolled past the motionless, wide-eyed siren and escaped the cottage with the tips of his ears red.
It was after the kiss when he discovered the mercury eyes of Godric peered at him with hungry longing. The tension between them was thickening, turning electric...primal. The way the siren looked at him...it hurt to breathe.
The months had turned into a year and when he lay in his hammock at sunset, holding his notebook and pen. Callum realized he loved the siren. He loved him. Never did the young man think, he'd love another man the way he loved Godric. And he didn't care to go back home, yes, he missed his grandmother, father, and friends but his place was no longer with them.
Hazel colored eyes followed the siren's movements as he roamed over to where Callum rested lazily and he assembled his bravery, ready to tell the beautiful creature how he felt. He wavered instead when pretty silver-blue eyes were falling on his form.
"Come into the ocean with me."
"Pardon?" Godric had never asked him to join him. This was the first time he ever wanted Callum to venture into the deep tides with him. "You're gonna drown me, aren't you?"
It was sarcasm, a joke but he felt bad immediately when Godric cringed, "No." He growled, low. Expressive, mercury eyes swimming with sorrow.
"I was joking." Callum was climbing out of the hammock, dropping his notebook and pen onto the sand before crowding into the shorter man's space, "Of course, I'll join you."
Godric blinked, appearing uncertain before giving Callum a curt nod and turning on his heel, leading the way to the tranquil ocean. Callum bounded behind him, leaving his shorts on, he followed the siren into the deep waters, holding his breath, he blinked multiple times through the irritating saltwater and found Godric transforming under the tides. The siren looked to be in pain, his arms flailing through the water as his tail formed over human legs. He was baring his teeth in a grimace, eyes squeezed shut.
Callum winced with sympathy and swam over to the beautiful creature once the transformation was complete. He lingered close before wrapping his arms around the other's ribcage. Connecting their foreheads, meeting extraordinary eyes when pale eyelids were uncovered.
When he couldn't hold his breath anymore, the bubbles floating above their heads, Godric immediately leaned forward, cupping his face with a clawed hand, and breathed fresh air into his lungs.
Callum ran his right palm along Godric's side with thanks before the siren pulled back and grinned at him with sharp teeth. A year ago, it would have terrified him but now, under the ocean waves with the one he loved, he only felt a warm fondness.
In the dying light of the day, they explored the ocean together, straying perhaps a little too far from the island. Anytime Callum needed air, Godric gifted him more. Always lingering close by, in case he needed him. When the siren circled him, he would sometimes brush his fingers over the smooth, passing fish tale with fascination. Godric's eyes would immediately find his, softening and filled with a manner of dark devotion aimed toward the man. The gaze filled Callum with aching affection, tight and heavy in his chest that settled like weights on his clenching heart.
It was when he made the journey to the surface, turning to glance back at Godric, he felt anxiety. The siren. His siren's eyes were black, his teeth bared savagely and he was swimming straight for him with furious, hysterical features. Concern had Callum wondering what he did wrong. If he had offended Godric somehow? When the siren neared him, it swerved right, passing Callum with remarkable speed and his eyes followed glowing tattoos and a pale tale, twirling his own body around in the sea, only to watch Godric crash into an approaching gray figure.
He watched the violent battle happen a few feet away from his frozen form. The thing Godric fought was terrifying, gray skin on a masculine, scarred, glowing tattooed body. It had black eyes but no nose. He could glimpse the jagged gills on its neck and the dark tail clashing against Godric's smaller, white one. He could see blood. Red blood being spilled and staining the blue waters around their twisting forms.
He had to get out of the water. Godric couldn't safeguard himself properly if he had to protect Callum.
Callum swam for the top of the sea, he gasped for fresh oxygen when his head broke the water, wild eyes searching for the island, finding it too far away. He swiveled around, scanning frantically until he found rocks resting above the sea. They were dangerous and erratic but they were the only thing that would allow him to escape the ocean. Without a second thought, he paddled for them, pulling himself onto the rocks as swiftly as possible before spinning around and waiting for Godric to win against the monster. Praying he'd win.
As minutes ticked by, Callum became more apprehensive, to the point of biting his nails with stress. There was movement under the darkening water, the sun nearly gone. The ripples moved closer to the rocks he stood on and Callum leaned forward, "Godric?"
A dark figure was lunging from the sea. Sharp, dark claws swiping for his retreating form, a monstrous snarl merging with his surprised shout. Jagged stone dug into his back and a pale figure appeared behind the monster, Callum watched smaller, clear claws reached around the neck of the nightmare facing him before tearing out its throat.
He trembled, watching the gray body slide off of the rock that it had partly clambered on, to reach him and slumped into the water, dead.
Hazel colored eyes found the still form of Godric floating among the black waves, the gills on the left side of his neck were clawed through and bleeding heavily. Callum could also see a nasty bite mark...no, a chunk of flesh was torn out of Godric's shoulder. The man rushed forward and lowered himself back into the water with the intent of reaching for the pale siren while dismissing the drifting corpse next to them.
Swimming over to his injured...mate. He traced Godric's pained features before watching the wounds slowly heal. Breathing a sigh of relief when his siren's voice met his ears. "I should not have brought you out here."
"What was that?"
"A Sorun. Mera."
A male siren. That was a siren! It looked almost nothing like the beautiful, pale creature in front of him. Godric was practically human in appearance compared to that thing! Callum edged closer and slipped his arms under the siren, resting his palms on the other's upper back.
"You look nothing like that," Callum murmured, pressing his features against the side of Godric's jaw. "I am not only Sorun."
"So you said," He replied against wet skin before trailing over to place a kiss against the corner of Godric mouth. A shuddering, hitch of breath was released against Callum's lips and he leaned in again for another. Kissing Godric on his lips, chin, and jaw. One of his hands had trailed up to bury fingers into messy, wet hair, and arms were wrapping around him, pulling him closer, his legs brushing against a powerful tail. When he leaned in to kiss the siren deeper, wanted his tongue in his mouth, wasn't concerned about sharp teeth, Godric tore his lips away from Callum. The human man froze only for Godric to shake his head fiercely, "We can't! Not here, it's not safe."
And Callum relented, nodding and allowing Godric to take them back to the safely of the island.
He exited the dark waters when they returned, waiting for Godric to follow, and when the siren did, his body trembled from the aftermath of the transformation while hurrying up the seashore toward Callum, the human grinned and reached to take his hand in his. Godric glanced down at their embraced hands with a startled blink and Callum broadcasted a chuckle before leading his siren forward while backing to slide around the tapestry that hung over the entranceway, to their home.
He led Godric into the dark dwelling, pulling away to light some candles so he could at least see in the dark and not make a complete fool of himself. He placed one on the edge of the loft, for a dim glow.
And when Callum wandered back to the unmoving figure of Godric, he leaned close and kissed him softly before turning and climbing into the loft. Godric followed eagerly, eyes black in the dim-lit space they settled in. He pulled his soaked shorts down his backside and legs, tossing them below the loft, ignoring the sound of the wet fabric connecting with the stone floor, he tugged Godric close, and his siren came forward effortlessly. Callum kissed him with tongue this time while being cautious of sharp teeth, moaning into the warm mouth when their arousals brushed against one another. Godric didn't taste of brine or fish. He tasted entirely human, he nearly sounded like one too, with the moans and sighs he released.
Callum pushed his lover back against their bed, delighted when Godric allowed him to climb over him and trail kisses and licks down his collarbone, he traced the dark tattoos before dipping down and teasing hardening nipples. His mouth traced flesh while his ears were satisfied with melodious noises escaping Godric's swollen lips.
He came to a stop at his lover's hard, leaking cock, reaching to curl fingers around the base of the shaft as Godric tensed. "Callum." A threat, the man's brow furrowed, knowing that the last time he paid any attention to Godric's manhood with his limbs, it winded up resulting in pain for the siren.
Callum grimaced with guilt before enclosing his mouth over Godric's shaft without warning. The sound of claws ripped the sheets under them and his siren quivered when he lifted his head and swirled his tongue over the sensitive crown of his lover's cock.
"Oh...Callum."
It was a surrender that was breathed from Godric. The siren melting into the bedding underneath him, and it only made Callum ravenous for additional, unexpected reactions from his lover.
Throughout the night, fingers and tongues danced over warm flesh, their passion ignited for one another in the small world they hid in. It was Callum who sunk into the hot, tight body of his husband, once he loosened him enough to not injure him. That's what he was, wasn't he? His husband. The human gave an experimental thrust, only for a pleasured growl to escape the one beneath him.
"I love you."
He uttered down to the shaded features of Godric, reaching to cup the siren's face with one hand, digging his other fingers into a pale hip, he didn't need to wait for his lover's response. He bent down instead and caught full lips with his own, his hand dropping from damp features to curl around a thigh, lifting it and pressing himself entirely against the trembling, grunting one beneath him, he took him, showed his devotion to the siren that dug sharp claws painfully into his back.
And after, he rested against his lover, gifting Godric sweet kisses, entangled within him for an extended period before pulling himself out of a fluttering body with delicate movements, satisfied from the faint, candlelit sight of his seed trickling out of the limp siren that rested beneath him.
"Callum." It was the groaning whisper of his name that had him easing back down against his Godric, chest to chest, a sated "Hmm?" falling from his lips.
"My heart is yours."
There you are, there you are in my head
Don't fill me up, fill me up with regret
Crawling through the vastness of space
If there's a will, there's a way, there's a way
Take me away, take me away
'Cause in this fence there's a hole
There's a whisper in my bones
Keeping me restless and whole
There's a whisper in my bones, bones
Oh
These bones, oh, oh
These bones, oh, oh
These bones, oh, oh
Oh, oh
Tangle me, tangle me in your web
All of me is alive 'til I'm dead
Hold me close 'til my pulse loses time
I'll be yours if you're mine, if you're mine
Take me away, take me away
'Cause in this fence there's a hole
There's a whisper in my bones
Keeping me restless and whole
There's a whisper in my bones, bones
Oh
These bones, oh, oh
These bones, oh, oh
These bones, oh, oh
Oh, oh
Bones, WENS
A/N: Who knew this fierce Godric could be so submissive in bed. ¯\_( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°) I regret nothing.
