I gripped my chest as reality crushed through the memory. Forever was stolen. He's gone. I fought an internal struggle with wanting to just let the pain consume me and needing to remember the joy of that memory.
I was interrupted by a knock on the door. "Steph, it's Woody." He announced before letting himself in.
I was glad to see him and I needed the support right now. He found me in tears on the couch, but I wasn't screaming in pain this time.
"Steph?" He gingerly approached and sat next to me.
"I was remembering the night he proposed."
He nodded in understanding and after a few quiet moments, he spoke. "We all saw the spark between you two. It was so easy to see. We just sat back and waited for you two to finally figure out what everyone else knew. That you were both in love."
I wiped my tears and moved closer to lean my head on his shoulder. "Was it that obvious?"
"Yes." He chuckled. "Memories are good, Steph. I know it hurts, but always let the memories in. He is here.", emphasizing his words by double tapping his fist over his heart. "Forever."
I nodded slowly. "It's so hard. I am trying now thanks to all of you." I tried to smile, but the word "forever" hit too deep. "We had so little time." My voice cracked and tears flowed down my cheeks.
Woody held me till the sobs subsided. "I know, hun. I know."
