Chapter 08

Viridian City Streets

Karlie runs through the busy streets with tons of people walking with few Pokemon walking around either by themselves or with their trainers.

She had stopped for a moment to ask someone where the Pokemon Center is located.

Unlike the previous one which was mostly made of wood, this one had made from more metallic-like material. Only similarities between the two were the red coloured roof and poke ball symbol above the door.

After while of running towards the pokemon center. Her attention is caught by the construction happening next to the pokemon center for a moment, but her mind is quickly brought back to the task in hand and runs inside.

She reaches the counter is a Nurse with a similar appearance than the one she had met in the previous pokemon center had her back turned seemingly searching for something from a cabinet

build in a wall

At first, she was slightly confused until the nurse turns around and her eye colour is green instead of blue allowing her to realize she was a different person.

"Hello. What can I help you with?" She askes with a kind tone as makes polite bow as Karlie catches her breath.

She then takes out Charmanders Poke ball. "Yes, two things..."She muttered before giving it to her. "My Charmander need to be treated after the battle we just had..."

The nurse only gives gentle smile before taking the ball. "Of course that's what Pokemon centers are for." She turns around and places it on the Ball tray.

She lifts tray before starting to walk away before Karlie straightens himself. "Hey, have you seen boy same ages as me, named Kane? He looks a lot like me, same eye colour and platinum hair, slightly taller?"

Nurse looks up for a moment in thought before turning back towards her. "Does your brother have an energetic personality?" hearing this she could only give a frustrated sigh.

"What did he do..?" The nurse only laughed. "Nothing much he just charges headfirst in here shouting for someone called Cheap shot."

Karlie could only cover her face in embarrassment as she continued. "He stomped to the counter and demanded to know if the cheap shot had arrived. I really wasn't sure how to answer that so I told him that no..."

Karlie then interrupted her raising her left hand while covering her eyes with her right hand while hanging her hand. "No need to tell me he started to walk around asking random trainers if they were the "Cheap shot" and kept doing it until he received a call..."

This made Nurse give a small laugh. "Well, that was good guess expect that while he was pestering any trainer that he came across there was one Bulbasaur jumping after him trying to calm him down and apologises to every trainer he had bothered. But after he got the call he calmed down and started to challenge different trainers he comes across instead."

She smiles as she looks at Karlie. "If you are wondering where he is at the moment then he left town to eat in a nearby restaurant. Just go down the road and turn to the right at the end Magmar Grill is on the left from there."

Karlie looks towards the door before turning back towards the nurse and gives a polite bow. "Thank you." She then rushes out towards the exit.

"Tell Charmander to take it easy and not to strained himself while I'm away!" She shots as she exists the Pokemon Center.

Nurse look at the door for a moment before letting out a small chuckle before she turned around and walk towards the door located behind the counter.

Magmar Grill

Magmar grill is a wooden house with a stone base. The front entrance is a single door with three-step stairs leading to it. House is painted mostly yellow with entrances door being coloured Red.

On top of the entrance, there is a sign with the head of a pokemon on it. This pokemon has red fur and bored eyes with two big lumps on its forehead and both of them had a small yellow fire on top of them.

Out of the Pokemon, the beak is shooting out short burs of fire with words "Magmar's grill" Written on top of it.

Inside the restaurant next to the entrance there is a J-shaped counter with red coloured top. The wall behind the counter has two black chalkboards with restaurants menu and between them are three refrigerators with transparent doors giving a clear view to the drinks stored inside them.

Next to the left chalkboard, there is a door frame without a door. Looking inside it you could see yellowtail which changes into a more red colour.

Similar to Charmnander the end of the ail is lit. You could even see at time human dressed in a regular blue shirt with rolled sleeves and light brown trousers and on top them, there is a white Apron covering his chest and trousers.

Past the counter, there are two lines of tables. First had a line from the right has circle shaped tables with each one having three chairs and the line next to it has long tables with six chairs three on each side.

Along the left side on the wall from the tables, there are two windows showing the street that leads to the Pokemon center.

Room was light up by two metallic and black chandeliers that are hanging by chains from the ceiling one few meters away from the entrance and other in the middle of the two lines of Tables.

Sitting on the table at end of the three-seat tables Kane is sitting peacefully eating grilled steak with a fork and knife with a glass of water. While his bag is leaning against the table on the floor.

From the windows, you could see Karlie running on the side of the round across the street.

He was calmly cutting a piece of the meat with the knife while holding it in place with his fork.

He eats the piece and after swallowing he reaches out towards the glass and soon as he tilts it as he attempts to take a sip door opens with the sound of the bell ringing attached to the door.

Followed by a shout at the same time. "Kane!" Which startled him causing him almost to let go of the glass and some of the water to be spilt on the table and his shirt.

Not long after that from kitchen entrance, the owner peeked his head out the kitchen entrance with the same Pokemon that was on the sign soon after, both of them have slightly confused expression.

Karlie was holding the door open as she was catching her breath again. Kane only stares at her for a few seconds before his attention quickly turns towards his shirt that has water stein on it.

His expression turns into an annoyed before looking towards his sister. "Hey! What's the big deal! Why did you shout and surprise me like that!?"

Karlie only stared her brother as her left eyes twitch three times before straightening herself before responding with an angry tone. "Don't you take that tone with me!"

Owner and his Pokemon quietly look at each other before silently retreating back inside the kitchen as Karlie starts to stomp towards her brother as Kane does the same after standing up.

Two of them stops at feet and a half away from each other before Karlie continues her

"You left me behind at Professor's lab! You just rushed off soon as you heard Margus had managed to get there first got his starter before we arrived!"

Kane raises his hand with one finger pointing upwards. "Hey! It's not my fault that you move so slow!"

Before she could make a retort Kane turns towards the table and taking his bag and throwing it over his shoulder and walks past Karlie heading towards the exit.

Karlie only blinks a few times before quickly spinning around. "Hey! Where are you going to now?!" She shouts just as Kane had opened the door.

"Since you are here that means "he" should be here too so I'm going to challenge him."He mutters annoyed before stepping outside and the door closes behind him.

She was completely baffled with her mouth hanging slightly before closing his eyes lowering his head and rubs her nose with her right hand before muttering for himself.

"Why does he have that one-track mind..." She then quickly rushes outside while shouting. "He isn't here yet! Wait up a minute! I still need to talk to you!"

Margus location

"Poison sting Arbok!" Grunt shouts as Arbok shoots again stream of needles. "Counter it with rabid Spin!" Margus quickly responds and Squirtle tucks itself inside of his shell as he starts to rotate with incredible speed.

Soon as the needles hit the fastly rotating shell they are deflected before it starts to move towards the Cobra Pokemon in attempt strike him.

Attack was avoided by Arbok swiftly moved his body to the right avoiding it and as the spinning shell approaches the ground Squirtle comes out of the shell and uses his feet to stop himself from hitting the ground, he spins around few times before stopping facing towards Arboks back.

Who then moves his head to look a the Squirtle and both glare at each other. "Water gun Squirtle!" In response, Squirtle pulls back his head as he takes a breath and puffs up his cheeks.

"Don't get hit Arbok!" Grunt shouts just as Squirtle throws his head forward unleashing a torrent of water from his mouth aiming at Arboks who simply throw his head upwards and avoided the attack.

Squirtle narrowed his eyes moving his head upwards and moving the water gun direction surprising Arbok. "Shaaaar?!" It lets out a surprised cry before attacks hit him straight in the head.

"Way to go Squirtle." Margus praises his partner while Squirtle makes smug grin before stopping his water gun and grins as Arbok falls down on his side kicking up dust.

"Oh no!" Grunt lets out a shocked cry as Arbok raises his head from the ground shaking it for few times before standing up and glaring at the smug turtle.

"Arbok use bite!" Arbok quickly lunges at the Squirtle with his mouth wide open. Just as he was about to reach him Squirtle jumps back making Arbok bite nothing but air.

"Squirtle you need to keep avoiding attacks!" As he kept avoiding Arboks jaws he simply nods at the same time. "Squirtle!"

He let out a determined cry before avoiding incoming bite by tucking his head inside of its shell. And pulling it back out again. "This really is hard for Squirtle. Even after taking damage from that water gun he doesn't seem to have taken that much damage..."

His eyes narrow as he keeps thinking way to end this he begins to scan the area. Arbok once again attempts to bite Squirtle again but this time Squirtle jumps back but while he was in air grunt smirks before shouting.

"Now Arbok! Lunge forward with Headbutt!" In that instant Arbok lungs forwards swinging his head in an upward ark and hitting the top of his head into Sqirtles stomach.

His eyes widen as he lets out a cry of pain and sends him flying getting Margus attention is quickly brought back towards the fight. "Oh no!"

Squirtle lands on his back making a small singular bounce before making small groan. "Squirtle are you okay?" Margus worriedly asks Squirtle quickly does a backflip landing on his feet.

Soon as he lands with his face facing towards Arbok before making a groan and holds his stomach. "Squiirtle..."

Margus makes annoyed expression as he tries to figure out a way to end this fight." He raises his head slightly before his attention is caught by one of the trees behind Squirtle.

"Wait a sec..."He thinks for a moment before his eyes widen. "That could work!" He shouts in his own head.

"Squirtle!" He shouts to his partner causing Squirtle took confused expression and looks at him. "Let's forget about offensive and focus more on evasion and defence!"

Squirtle looks at him blinking few times as Margus looks at him with a serious expression on his after the second Squirtle turns his attention back towards Arbok as he nods.

"Not sure what you think it will help but we are going to end this here. Arbok poison sting!" Rocket grunt shouts as he then throws his head forward.

Arbok lets out hiss before getting to ready to shoot a hail of needles. "Squirtle use rabid spin manoeuvre and block his attacks and start moving towards your right!"

Squirtle lowers his head before jumps with horizontal spin and tucking his head and limbs inside his shell as the speed accelerated jus taArboks shoots his needles spinning shell moves to right avoiding them.

"That's the way Squirtle! Now keep moving away from Abok!" As ordered Squirtle started to move away from his opponent as he tries to shoot him with poison sting only to them being avoided or deflected by the fast rotation of his shell.

"Arbok! Stop attacking! Use wrap to stop it from spinning!" Arbok stops his attack before lunging forward with a determined cry. "Shaaaaaar!"

"Squirtle use water gun to propel your self back!" Soon as Arbok was attempting to wrap himself around him shell tilted forward before the stream of water was shot from the shell hitting the ground launching it backwards.

It flies several feet away as shell approaches the ground Squirtle comes out of his shell and land on his feet. Soon as his lands on the ground his feet slide a few inches back.

"Arbok use Bite!" Arbok lungs again at Squirtle who again jumps back avoiding the bite but then his back hits a tree Surprising Squirtle as he turns his head to look at the tree surprised.

"Now we got you! Arbok use bite!" Again Arbok shots forward with a clear aim at Squirtles head. Squirtle turns towards the incoming snake in shock while letting out a surprised cry. "Squirtle?!"

Margus makes small smirk for split second before disappearing as he shouts. "Now Squirtle take cover!" Squirtle jumps on his stomach just as Arboks attack was about to hit.

This caused Arbok accidentally to bite down on tree trunk vertically. His eyes widen before as throwing his head upward in pain while crying out.

"Oh no!" Grunt only lets out a troubled shout as Margus continues with his game plan. "Squirtle use rabid spin and bubble at the same time while you rotate around Arbok!"

Squirtle was slightly confused before taking on a serious expression and goes back inside of his shell and starts to spin before starting to spin and begins to rotate around his opponent while shooting out bubbles.

"Now what is he trying to pull?" Grunt mutters to himself confused. Arbok finally manages to calm down from the pain before looking around as he was now completely surrounded by floating bubbles.

"Huh!?" Grunt makes the realization shortly afterwards as Squirtles spinning shell distances itself from the Arbok before jumping back on its feet and looking at the situation confused.

While Margus had a huge grin on his face. As Arbok look around confused as the Bubbles were really close to each other as they also appeared float closer little by little.

"Arbok get out of there!" Grunt shouts worried tone as his Pokemon start to search a way out frantically. "It already too late there is no room for pokemon of that size to get out there," Margus states confidently before pointing towards grunt with his right hand.

"Since each one of the bubbles is close to each other soon as one of then detonates causes chain reaction..." he lowers his hand as he closes his eyes for a moment.

"Soon as that happens..." He states as Arbok turns towards his left as bubbles were slowly approaching and accidentally hits one of the bubbles with his head. "Is the moment this fight ends."

Soon as Margus statement ends Bubble explodes into invisible shockwave and creating the mentioned chain reaction. Arbok caught in the middle of it makes him shout in pain.

Complained force of shockwave shatters the part of the base of the tree. "Arbok!" grunt shouts worriedly as the shockwaves end with Arbok trying its hardest not to fall with its head hanging down.

"Are you okay?!" grunt askes worriedly as his Pokemon looks at him slowly before making slight smirk as they make eye contact.

This made grunt to give relieving sigh but it was then interrupted by Margus voice. "He won't be for long..." He turns to look towards him who had a smug smirk on his face.

"What about to happen next will seal the deal." grunt looks at him confused, Squirtle had also turned towards him confused.

"What are you talking..?" In the middle of his question, his attention is suddenly caught by sudden cracking sound and he turns towards Arbok where the sound was coming from.

At that moment damaged tree cracks and begins to fall forward towards Arbok who was still trying to recover. " Oh no... Arbok get out of there hurry!"

Arbok slowly turns around to incoming tree and attempts to get out of the way by slithering to the right jus tas the tree came down causing the ground to shake.

Moment of silence followed as Grunt looked in shock along with Squirtle while Margus had a serious expression on his face.

Aside from to top his body Arbok was completely stuck under the tree attempting struggle his way out of there before falling unconscious.

A fallen tree had fallen between Margus and grunt blocking Squirtle and Margus view from seeing what was happening.

Grunt only stared in disbelief at the scene before finally seemingly snapping out of it and quickly making scream. After hearing Margus rushes to the tree and placing his hand on it and umps over it.

He lands on his feet looks at fainted Arbok before turning towards grunt who was going trough his pocket and taking Arboks Poke ball.

Squirtle rushes towards the tree as well and tries to jump over it but he was a little bit too short for that.

Grunt find the ball land points it towards Arbok as he shouts. "Return!" red beam shouts out and hit Arbok and returns it back inside the ball.

He looks at the ball for second before turning to look at Margus with a serious gaze. Two of them stared at each other before Margus opens his mouth. "So that was your last Pokemon?"

After hearing the question Grunt narrows his eyes before giving frustrated sigh. "Yes... It was..." As he states this Squirtle still attempts to jump over the tree before stopping and starting to look around.

He then starts to run around the tree from the left." Grunt then places Poke ball away and begins to walk away.

"You won this time but I will get even with you that's for sure!" He begins to shout as he starts to dash forward towards the viridian city as he shouts.

"My name is Edgar! You better remember it!" as he vanishes into the woods and Squirtle reaches next to Margus dead tired.

His hand are on his knees as he was breathing heavily before he falls down into a sitting position.

Margus turns towards him with a gentle smile before kneeling in front of him. "That was a great performance you gave there..." Squirtle looks up at him as he takes out his Poke ball and pats him on the head.

"You go and take rest along with Gastly. Thank you for trusting me." Both of them smile at each other before Squirtle returns to his Poke ball.

Margus puts the ball away before jumping back over the tree and walks to his back bag. He places it over his shoulder.

"Well better get to move on." He mutters before heading towards the viridian city.

After several minutes of walking, he stops as he notices something up ahead. In front of him is Spearow with one of its wings banged up moving around jumping before stopping as he feels Margus stare and turns around.

Two of them stare at each other for a moment before Margus opens his mouth and raises his right hand. "Uuu... Hi..."
