AUTHOR'S NOTE:
I am so sorry for the long wait, but It's worth it is since this chapter is very very long. I thought my last chapter was long but this one is nearly ten thousand words and twenty two pages long. Enjoy :)
EDIT (January/February): Hi everyone! I am so sorry for the long wait for Chapter 8, I know it's well past Christmas and New Years, I did promise it would be posted by then. I just need your patience, I hope you understand
I didn't sleep much that night, or should I say morning. I finally managed to dose off around five in the morning. I was dreaming about finishing my book, Logan, and this baby; I was in heaven. It almost felt real, but I was sadly woken up by the annoying siren of my phone. I couldn't bear it, I slightly opened my eyes and looked across at the window, little fragments of the morning sun seeped through the curtains. I knew it must have been past nine, I tried to ignore my phone, I turned to face Logan and buried my head into his chest. His arms wrapped around me, just as the phone stopped ringing. I took in the soft smell that covered Logan, I always loved his scent, It might sound weird but it smelt like home to me. I kissed his chest and started to work my way up to his lips, when my phone rang again, I groaned out of annoyance and wrapped myself around Logan sighed, his grip on me lessoned as he extended his hand to stop the miserable sounds coming out of my phone. Whoever was calling me was very determined, but I didn't care, I was ready to swipe left and end the call.
"It's your mum." I heard Logan mutter into my ear. I let go of Logan and sat straight up on the bed. Ugh...I take it back. The person on the phone wasn't determined, they were insane! I knew well enough to pick up the phone since she wouldn't stop until I picked up. I smiled at Logan and answered the call.
"Hello, mum?" I knew it was suggested and expected of me to answer with "Good morning, Mum!", or something more peppy, but I simply couldn't weasel out another word. I just wanted to go back to bed, and the few morsels of energy I had left only allowed a small "Hello" to creep out of me. Then again, she should be pleased that I answered with "Hello" rather than a murmur or groan.
"You know, I always dreamed of having a daughter that was a celebrity. I hoped she would maybe become a popstar or an actor..."I heard mum trale on about things she would have hoped for me to become, I knew it was one of her bits, I mean I've had to deal with them for over thirty years. Normally, I would know what she was going on about and would follow along, but I was completely out of it.
"Mum, what are you talking about?" I blurted out, interrupting her extensive list of things she'd hoped I became.
"You're on page six." At first I didn't fully register what she had said, page six? What of a book? My brain was blanking.
"What? What do you mean?"I asked after a quick pause. My brain was trying to digest what I heard, then my eyes widened as I heard her repeat."You're on Page Six!"
I was in a haze of confusion; Why would I, of all people, be on page six? Logan sensed the shift in the atmosphere, he stood up and leaned against the headboard board, while still launching onto me, mouthing out "What's wrong?".
I looked at Logan while trying to get my mum to elaborate more on her answer, he could tell something was off.
"Well, today I woke up, and I was searching the web, going on my socials, looking for my daily dose of gossip. Stars Hollow has gotten a bit dry lately if you ask me-"
"Mum! Please just cut to the chase." I interrupted.
"Okay, fine so where was I? Oh yes, so I follow Page six on all my socials."
"You only have facebook, mum."
"For now, but I'm considering becoming an instagramer, but we're going off topic. Anyway, as I was scrolling through the app, Page Six pops up, and there you are."
"Omg," I murmured under my breath, but Logan managed to hear it, he touched my arm.
"Oh, I never thought this day would come, if you get famous, don't forget to introduce me to…"
"Mum I'm going to have to call you back, I'm sorry I'll talk to you later, bye,"
"You better." she threatened me as I ended the call.I ignored it and began surfing the web and my socials for the article. Logan came up close behind me, I didn't bother to give him any time to ask questions or catch up. I just blatantly blurted it out.
"We're on Page Six."
"What?" I didn't bother replying to him since I found the article.
The title was in big, bold letters, it read out: "We thought the Huntzberger heir was back on the market after announcing his break up with long-time fiancée, Odette Robideaux, but has he found love already?" The cover photo was of both of us at Finn's club, we were by the balcony railings, looking down onto the stage. Or, Logan was, he was excitedly staring at the band, with his hands loosely wrapped around my middle. The stage lights were mainly pinned on Logan, while I was standing in the shadows beside him. You could just about see my face if squinted a bit. I scrolled down to find the text and started reading out loud, while Logan scooched up beside me with his head slightly peering over my shoulder at the screen.
"It was not too long ago when the media mogul heir, Logan Huntzberger called it quits with his fiancée, Odette Robideaux. Although the exact parameters of their separation did not come to light, the interior designer did reveal that the breakup was "mutual". Barely a month after their separation, the bachelor boy doesn't hesitate to be in the arms of another lady.
Last night, the Huntzberger heir was spotted with friends, Colin Mcrae, Robert Spencer, and Finn Astor catching a few drinks around town. The group were spotted at Astor's new club in downtown New York, "The Oak". It was not a surprise that they were seen running around town, the group have been inseparable since childhood.
Later that evening Logan Huntzberger was seen getting very handsy with a new mystery girl. Though it isn't clear who this new damsel is, we decided to take a walk down memory lane and uncover some of Huntzberger's past relationships. Although in the past he was known to be more of a "casual dater", never thinking of settling for one girl, till Lorelai Gilmore, or Rory as she is known among friends and family. We learned that the two met in college, and dated throughout Logan's last two years at Yale University, and for an entire year after his graduation.
Both Logan and Rory have a lot in common, especially having come from Hartford society families. Ms Gilmore, being the granddaughter of both the Gilmore and Hayden family. Rory Gilmore graduated a year after Logan and has since been a reporter on Barack Obama's Presidential Campaign, and is currently working as a freelance reporter.
The pair have had quite a close relationship over the years. They have been spotted together many times over the last few months. However, it is not certain that Rory Gilmore is the girl Logan Huntzerberg was seen with. Tell us what you think by….
There was still another line of the article, but it was just an advertisement to check out some other page and email them or something. I finished reading and just sat there-in silence, staring at my dimming screen. I didn't know what to say, or feel. Technically, everything in the article was true, and they weren't really portraying me as a bad person. I just didn't know how I was supposed to react. I started to think about the fact that Logan and I have become really close these past year or so, especially with the whole "affair"- type-relationship. I mean as much as I hated to think about the fact that once again I was the "other woman", it was true, but oddly, like everything else, it felt right. But I should have learnt from the whole Dean situation, it was wrong of me to do what I did, regardless of it making me feel "complete". Logan made me feel incredible! I felt like I was enough when I was around him. He made me happy, especially after grandpa passed away. I felt really lost, and my mourning wasn't just for his passing, but also for the undecided and unstable way I was living my life.
I smiled and looked over at Logan, he had the same caring expression on his face like mine.
There was a blanket of silence for a few minutes, I decided to let Logan take the whole situation in before talking. A while went by before Logan broke the cold barrier of subdue.
"So…" he trailed on, the silence came back quickly, but it was uncomfortable this time. The atmosphere between us completely changed, and I didn't like it.
"That could have gone a lot worse…right? I mean they don't even know if it was you" he stated in an unsure tone.
"I guess so-I mean no one really knows that it was me, but I still have a feeling that it won't be long before they realise who that "mystery girl" is." I smiled back at Logan, I was starting to think about our next move. We needed to make a plan-a proper one. I went to open my mouth to say something else. I forgot what exactly, but the ringing of the phone came back. I assumed it was mine, completely forgetting that Logan also has one.
Logan reluctantly reached over to the night-stand table on his side of the bed. He glanced at the screen of his phone-hesitating to even bother answering it. He came back towards me and exclaiming a sigh. "Right on schedule" he murmured under his breath as he showed me the caller ID before answering the phone. It was Mitchum, I frowned at the sight of his name. Logan quickly answered and put the phone to his ear.
"Hi, Dad."
"Logan" I heard Mitchum's strong tempered voice over the phone. I huddled up close to Logan's head so I could hear the conversation more clearly. I knew it was eavesdropping and it was wrong, but I couldn't help it. I wanted to know what Mithum had to say, I knew it was related to the article, obviously. I mean I'm sure he was curious as to know who the "mystery girl" is. I also knew that if it was bad Logan wouldn't tell me what it's all about, he'd try and sugarcoat it.
"I just read the article about you on page six, well you... and Rory. Actually I'm not even sure who it is in that photograph with you. Damn it! Logan, I've told you time and again not to get yourself into situations like this. Especially after the engagement being called off, you didn't even have the common courtesy of telling me, or even your mother, who thankfully for you doesn't know...yet! She's still recovering from your impromptu phone call a few weeks ago to tell us you and Odette broke up. I mean three words?! That's all we get, then we don't hear from you for weeks, till now. God! This isn't just bad for us but it's bad for your image." Mithum paused in the middle of his tenacious rant, Logan turned his head to mine and gave me a look before Mitchum continued. It was an apologetic type look, filled with sympathy and worry. I was surprised he didn't fully talk to his parents about the breakup, I know he's a bit distant from them but still. I had so many questions about it, but it wasn't the time.
"Anyways, have you read the article?" Mitchum asked abruptly.
"Ahh, ya, I just did." Logan quickly replied without hesitation.
"Good, then you know the article was very vague, which leads me to ask...who she is?"
"What?!" Logan asked.
"Well, I deserve to know as the father, I want to know who this-this "Mystery girl" is." Mitchum's tone changed to hostile.
"Uh, it's…" Logan looked up to me, he looked like he wanted confirmation. I quickly nodded.
"It's Ro-Rory." Logan quickly replied
"Ahh, Rory, Rory Gilmore, I guess that article was a bit right. Well, now that's settled when can you make it to dinner?"
"What? What dinner?" Logan asked, surprised.
"Well, we should have dinner, maybe I can get Honour and Josh to make it, we'll see." Mitchum sounded so excited.
"Um really a dinner? Are you sure that's a good idea, especially with this particular guest? "
"Logan, yes, I think I made that clear, now I'm busy. So are you free, let's see, ah! tonight?
Logan looked confused. He quickly took his phone off his ear and put it on speaker.
"Uhm, Dad can you repeat that again?"
"Logan, I said are you free tonight?" Mitchum replied arrogantly. "Now, I have a call waiting, hurry up!"
Logan looked at me. I nodded, Logan's face looked annoyed and sad.
"Logan! Are you there?" Mitchum yelled into the phone.
"Yes, Yes, I am and we can make it."
"Good. I have to leave so I'll see you at seven. Goodbye." Mitchum cut the call before Logan could say anything.
Logan tossed his phone from his hands onto the covers and fell backwards onto his pillow, he seemed annoyed and weirdly exhausted. I layed on his chest and he pulled me closer to him.
"So, I guess we're going to dinner." I said while smiling, I wanted to lighten the mood since Logan didn;t seem to happy.
He looked at me and started playing with my hair, "Yeah." he smiled back, but I could tell he was hiding what he really felt under that smile.
"You don't seem too excited, isn't this a good thing? I mean we're one step closer to telling them." I said gleefully.
"It is but we still have to tell them, and just I can feel things aren't going to go well." Logan confessed.
"I know, but look, the last time we went to dinner together with your parents was over ten years ago, things might be different. Keep positive." I smiled.
"Okay, I'll try, but I can't make any promises." Logan smiled and gave me a kiss.
Logan pulled me in closer, but I had to let go. I knew if I didn't then I wouldn't leave that bed at all, especially with his irresistible lips.
"Is everything okay?" Logan exclaimed as I sat up.
"I can't right now. We have to get out of bed, it's already 10 in the morning." I pleaded with Logan while he smirked at me.
Logan sighed, "5 minutes?" he asked
"No, as much as I would love to lay with you in bed all day, I have to call my grandma, you probably have a ton of work to do."
"Alright, but you owe me." He smiled and got out of bed to go to the bathroom.
Later that morning I called my grandma to see if she had time to talk before she left for Nantucket. I needed to go see her, I hated the thought that she already found out that Logan and I were together or even that I was pregnant. Although I doubt she would know about the baby, but you never know, Emily Gilmore has a way of finding things out. Part of me also felt like I owed her something. I called and thankfully she hadn't left yet, she was in Hartford. She took her trip into town for mum's wedding in order to run some errands. She was going to be flying out later today evening. We both decided to meet up at a café in Hartford at around 4, it planned out well since I had booked an appointment with my OBGYN and the clinic was in Hartford.
We were going to meet my grandma at the Rose Garden. I wouldn't say it abided by what grandma considered to be a proper meeting place, but she had changed a bit since she moved to Nantucket. She looked happier and I liked that on her, and her standards also changed a bit.
Logan and I pulled up to the parking lot a little passed four, I expected grandma to be waiting already. As Logan was about to turn the car off to leave he got a Bluetooth call since his phone was connected to the car. I saw him hesitate to decline the call; it was his work again. They had been calling him all afternoon, apparently some data base malfunctioned. I'm not too sure exactly what happened, but he had been at his desk for hours, answering calls and replying to emails. Logan looked up at me with a "I'm sorry, can I take this" face.
"You can answer it."
"No it's fine, lets go." Logan replied
"Logan, it's fine, answer the call." I reassured him
"Are you sure? I'm so sorry I didn't think this would happen."
"It's fine, I'll see you in there." I opened the door to leave and Logan grabbed my arm and pulled me in to give me a kiss.
Our heads rested leaning on each other's forehead as we took in the energy and love between us. "I guess I don't owe you now." I smiled and pulled away from him.
He chuckled. "I guess me ten minutes, fifteen max." He cried out as I left and closed the car door.
I walked up to the café, it had a French vintage style with a bit of a modern mixed into it. The place had opened up a few months ago and I noticed it here a few times. I saw grandma sitting on one of the tables by the window, with a steaming cup of coffee in her hands. She saw me and waved through the clear glass, she had an excited face. She stood up as I walked through the café doors to greet me. She wore this semi-casual outfit, it was the most casual outfit I had ever seen her wear in public. It took me by surprise, but I didn't let the shock bother me, I enjoyed seeing grandma like this. As I approached her she covered me in a big hug, it was normal for grandma to give hugs but this one was very intense.
"Hello, Rory!" She said and kissed my cheek before releasing me.
"Hi, grandma." I smiled at her, while gesturing towards her outfit.
"You look amazing, very chic." I complimented her.
"Well, these are new pants." She laughed as we sat down
"But you on the other hand, you're glowing as ever."
"Thank you. You too." I smiled back at her, I had strategically sat across from the window and grandma so I could see Logan walking in.
"Would you like a cup of coffee? I'm sorry for not waiting for you before ordering. I've just had a busy few days." She exclaimed as she called over a waitress.
"Oh, grandma that's fine." I was internally freaking out, I had already had my cup of coffee for the day this morning. Knowing grandma she would know something was up if I didn't order the coffee.
The waitress came over and politely asked if there was anything she could do.
"Yes, can my granddaughter please have a co-"
"Actually can I please have lemonade?" I interrupted.
"Certainly ma'am, anything else?" The waitress asked ever so politely.
"No, that's all, thank you." I replied, the waitress smiled and walked away.
I stared at grandma and the face of confusion that showered over her.
"I'm sorry for interrupting. I've just had a ton of coffee already." I laughed off.
"Oh, well that's fine." Grandma quickly responded, I could tell she was analysing everything that had just happened.
"So, grandma, how's your stay in Hartford been so far?" I tried to change the subject.
"Where do I even start!?" Grandma exclaimed exhaustedly. She continued listening out all the things that had gone wrong since she arrived in Hartford. Apparently the headstone that has mysteriously never arrived, finally arrived- in two pieces. It supposedly fell apart in shipping or some vague reason. While she continued going on and on I tried to slightly stare behind her to see Logan's car. It perfectly aligned with my view. After nearly ten minutes of listening to grandma's angry voice I saw Logan get out of the car. I was suddenly panicked by his arrival. I had wasted a few minutes waiting for him to come when I should have been thinking about our game plan. Although Logan and I did discuss this prior to meeting grandma, we never went entirely in depth, we skimmed it. My train of thought was interrupted by my grandma's hand shaking in front of my eyes.
"Rory? Rory? Can you hear me?" My grandma continued asking as she put her hand down.
"Oh, sorry grandma, I must have zoned out." I looked away from the window and rubbed my eyes.
"No, I'm boring you with my continued ranting, but is everything okay?" Grandma asked.
"Of course why wouldn't it be?" I laughed off my momentary lapse.
"Well, never mind me, what's up with you?" She asked politely.
My eyesight slowly creeped over grandma's back and I saw Logan walking towards the building, he was still on his phone, he paused every few yards to answer into his phone. I knew I had to tell grandma that Logan was going to join us, it seemed more dignified this way. I quickly came back to the conversation going in front of me.
"Same old, same old, nothings really changed."
"Oh, don't be modest, you're a writer now." Grandma generously replied.
"You know actually come to think about it there is something that's happened recently."
"Don't leave me in suspense." Grandma joked.
I opened my mouth to say something but I didn't know how to say it. There was a quick pause before I decided to just blurt it out.
"Grandma, I didn't just ask to see you for the sake of it, there's something I need to tell you." The second I said it I regretted it, there are so many different ways I could have worded what I said.
"I had a feeling you there was something you had to tell me." She smiled.
Logan was just a few steps from the café.
"Grandma, before I get into the details of everything, there's someone else who is going to join us in a few minutes."
"Oh, is it a friend of yours? Or wait, is it your mother? I haven't called her since the wedding since I expected her to be on her honeymoon and I wanted to give her some privacy."
"No, it isn't." I replied. Silence crept slowly into the atmosphere again, I started to read Grandma's face.
I went to add more to what I said, but I saw the door to the café open, Logan walked through. He put his phone into his pocket and fixed his coat a bit. I smiled at grandma and turned to face Logan. I could see a small shocked expression form on grandma's face from the coroner of my eye as she followed my direction and saw Logan.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." Logan said as he approached our table, he put on his charismatic, fake smile which he almost always uses on everyone except myself and a few others. A lot of people don't notice it, but there's a distinct difference between a genuine Logan smile and a fake one. For example, when Logan has a fake smile there are creases on his cheeks, but not around his eyes. The little muscles around his eyes are not contracted, compared to when he smiles for real, and when he does it's mesmerizing.
"Hello, Emily. It's wonderful to see you again, you look amazing." Logan extended his hand to her.
"Thank you, you're too kind as always." Grandma took his hand as she greeted him back.
"Come have a seat." Grandma prompted him to the vacant chair beside me.
Logan came around beside me, his hands touching my shoulder as he sat down. He gave me a quick, loving glance before staring back at grandma.
"Well, it seems like we have a lot to catch up on.' She said, her smile never leaving her face, while we sat down across from her. All the while I was reading every part of her face, I was so scared that grandma would feel invaded after I sprung this on her so quickly. I was sure she had a billion questions running through her head.
"Have we ordered yet? Would you like me to get anything? Another coffee Emily?" Logan asked politely, breaking the silence that had seeped in through the pause in our conversation.
"Oh, no, this is already my second cup since I've been here." She answered as she held up her coffee cup.
"Anything you want, Ace?" Logan turned his attention and head towards me from grandma.
"I actually ordered a lemonade awhile ago." I gestured my hand behind me to the counter.
"I'll be right back then." Logan smiled and nodded towards both of us, he pushed his chair back and stood up, walking away from the table.
Grandma turned to me with intrigue and joy in her eyes.
I waited for her to say something, but it was best if I started the conversion back up. I straightened up in my chair and positioned myself closer towards grandma.
"I guess it's obvious now, Logan and I are together." I said bluntly.
"I'm beyond happy for you." She said with a big smile on her face. "You know your grandfather was right. I remember the day we found out you didn't accept Logan's proposal, we were both sad for you, but we knew you made the right decision. I came down to your grandfather's study to find him as usual sitting behind his desk, his nose in another book. I walked up behind him, and he looked up to me and he said that this wasn't the end for you two. I didn't believe him at the time, but as usual he was right." Grandma's expression changed, she seemed in a daze, reminiscing about the past. She came out of her trans soon enough.
"But I also had a slight hunch you two belong together, sooner or later you were going to find your way back to each other." She smiled at me, and I couldn't help but return the smile.
"I can't help but ask, how long have you two been together?" She inquired, I had been dredging this question. I didn't want to lie to her, but at the same time how do I tell her the truth? I can't just blurt out that I was his mistress and we were both cheating on our relationships with each other. Although, grandma probably wouldn't remember Paul, and she had kind of taken on this more casual persona.
"Well...that's kind of a tricky question." I paused, I couldn't look at her while I told her the next part. "For nearly two years, on and off." I ripped the bandaid off, I just said it, quickly and swiftly, now it's out in the open.
The silence that once ascended came running back.
"Oh." That single word not only broke the deafness in the air, but also displayed an abundant amount of emotions. I could tell she was experiencing shock all over again, followed by the quick arrival of realisation, and I predicted disapproval and shame.
Silence once again filled up between us. I began contemplating every thought she was currently thinking. I wanted to prepare myself for the worst case scenario.
"I can't say what both of you did was right, it was undignified and wrong. Although, I can see where you two were coming from." She finally spoke, I looked up at her as she ended that sentence. I was relieved, even though I could hear the disapproval in her voice, but this was a far better outcome than I had expected.
"Rory, you two are adults, you have the right to make your own decisions, whether they are good or bad. These choices are what led you to this moment, although I cannot applaud you two for how you got here, I think things are the way they should be." she said as she reached hands out to my, she clasped both my hands in hers.
"Your two are destined for each other, they're in the stars." A smile formed on her face, which copied onto mine.
"Thank you, Grandma." I said as she replied to me with a nod and smile.
Logan decided to come back to the table at that moment with our drinks. "Here you go." Logan said as he came back to the table. He handed me my lemonade and gave himself a coffee. I'm sure Logan didn't make this plan but getting a lemonade and a coffee does not take that long. That being said, I think he knew it was the right thing to do, giving grandma and I some time first. It's the little things he does that I love so much. I gave him a small loving gaze and smile, he returned one back to me and proceeded to take a sip of his coffee.
Grandma sat there happily looking at both Logan and I exchanging smiles and loving looks, but I could tell she was plotting something, I didn't know what exactly but something. I guess it was best to tell her the big news, before any time is wasted.
"I can't express my joy for you two, I'm really happy you are together." Grandma generously smiled.
"Thank you, Emily. We really appreciate your support." Logan looked up from his coffee at grandma and I.
"So, what else is new with you two?" Grandma inquired.
I exchanged a quick glance at Logan, indicating that I was going to tell grandma. I felt Logan's hand come up onto the brim of my chair, brushing against my shoulder. I took one last sip of my lemonade, before answering her. "Um...grandma, Logan and I- we're, Um." I paused and gave out an awkward smile with a few ums. I don't know why it felt so hard to tell her. I finally realised it was dumb to be scared, or whatever I was feeling.
"Grandma, we're having a baby." I said as I watched the smile fade off her face, it was replaced by shock, which only lasted for a second, before It was taken by excitement and joy. I saw a different glisten in grandma's eyes, her smile was completely different. I looked up at Logan, he gave me a look, a loving one. He then proceeded to kiss me, and I didn't hesitate to take it.
Both of us looked back at grandma who looked happy, excited and even more surprised. I could tell she was holding back a few tears, since we were in public . "I'm so happy for you both!" she exclaimed and reached out for my hand. "You two will make amazing parents for this baby." she said. "Thank you, Emily" Logan said while smiling.
Grandma stiffened up and looked into my eyes. "Rory, you grandfather would be very proud of you, I'm sure he's looking down at us." I could see her start to tear up at the thought of my grandma and the excitement from the news. I was feeling the water works come on.
"I don't even know what to say, I'm just really grateful I have you, Grandma."
"No, Rory, I'm happy to have you." she said.
We all spent the next few minutes chatting and laughing, Grandma invited us over to Nantucket in the summer, when it was a little warmer. I felt like the hard part was over, I was relieved in telling grandma. I was so happy with her reaction, though I failed to realise that grandma wouldn't hesitate to enquire a little further into Logan and I's relationship.
"So, this is wonderful, I miss having a good laugh." Grandma said as she showered us with her bright smile.
"Well, you're free to come and chat with us whenever you please, grandma." I said, part of me meant it, as much as I love grandma, there are times where she can be a lot to handle. Logan also knew this.
Grandma smiled and took a deep breath. "You know I can't help but ask, is there going to be a union?" she subtly asked, looking up at us, expecting an answer.
Logan and I hadn't even discussed that! I mean it was only a few days ago when we finally established that we were together. I personally wanted to inquire Login about marriage, but I felt it was too soon and eagour.I. I stared at Logan not knowing what to say or think, I didn't know if we were on the same page.
Silence slowly crept into the conversation, the atmosphere completely changing. I gulped and went to say something when Logan spoke.
"Actually, there is, Rory and I are going to eventually marry, but right now we're dealing with other things-preparing for this baby." Logan smiled at Emily and looked down at me. I was smitten. I didn't expect this answer, I mean sure I hoped he would want marriage as well, but he felt so confident. I was scared he didn't want to because everything with me rejecting his proposal and Odette.
"That's wonderful, it's good to take your time." Grandma said so thoughtfully. I was still thinking about what Logan said, completely disregarding grandma's presence.
The conversation went back to being about fun little things, jokes and various whatnots. I wasn't entirely paying attention, I was still hooked on Logan. Part of me wanted to confront him about the marriage right there and then, but I realised this wasn't exactly the time for that. I'm sure I'll revisit the topic soon.
The afternoon came and went, grandma had to leave for her flight, leaving Logan and I at the café. We decided to stay there since we had a while till our appointment. Nonetheless, we still made it on time. For some reason after grandma left Logan started to act more loving than usual, don't get me wrong Logan is a very sweet and caring person, but he was very attached to me. We pulled up to the clinic and parked near the entrance, I collected my bag and some documents from our last appointment. I went to open the door, but Logan leaned over onto me, stopping from opening the door.
"What? What are you doing, Logan?" I asked questionably while I stared at him pulling away from the door and me. He grabbed his keys, phone and made a weird, but sweet look at me.
"Wait here." He said as he walked out of the car, closing the door. I sat there confused, what was going on? I watched Logan walk behind the car, I couldn't see past that since I wasn't an owl with a head that rotates 360 degrees. I continued to sit there confused and a bit annoyed. I looked straight ahead at the blank wall in front of me when the car door opened to Logan standing to the side of me.
"Sorry for the long wait, I nearly tripped so I had to tie my shoe laces." He smiled his sweet and charismatic smile. He raised his hand to me, I grabbed it and walked out of the car. I stared at me confused and a bit flattered. This wasn't the first time Logan's done something like this for me, but it's been awhile.
He closed the car door and turned towards me, giving me a kiss on my cheek, he whispered into my ear.
"I wanted to be nice to the mother of my child." He said as he pulled away from my ear.
I didn't know what to say, I was even more in love with him.
"But you're always nice to me." I finally broke from my quick pause.
"Maybe, but today's special, we get to see our baby's heart beat." He had a huge smile on his face.
"Well come on then." I smiled and huddled close to Logan as we walked hand in hand towards the entrance. The sliding doors opened to the clinic and we walked in, I went straight to the reception. There was this sweet middle aged lady behind the desk, her name is Josy. She has been working here ever since I can remember. "Hello, Rory! How are you doing doll?" she said with her thick Texas accent. We had a quick catch up, she then prompted us to the seats behind us. " won't be long." she said as we went to turn around.
Logan and I turned to go and take a seat, but we found something else apart from outdated magazines and worn-out chairs.
"What are you guys doing here?" Logan asked the three boys in front of him. They were all seated together, looking very out of their element. Colin was flipping through a magazine about babies. Robert was trying to watch a game on the tiny tv mountain in the wall in front of him, while Finn was annoying him. They all stood up simultaneously and turned to face us. "God! You're finally here, we've been waiting forever." Colin as usual nagged us. I was surprised he didn't buy the clinic while he waited.
"We wanted to see the baby." Finn spoke with a sweetness in his voice, the old softy.
Logan walked over and they all patted each other on their backs. "Guys, this is very sweet of you, but I don't think it's a very good idea." I agreed with Logan. Although, It was pretty obvious they were excited to see the baby. I wasn't about to be in a room with all of them staring at a machine next to my bare stomach. I saw all their faces stare at me the second Logan said that, I knew that they knew that I would never say no to them. I decided rather than arguing with them about this I would meet them at a midpoint.
"Okay, let's make a deal, Logan and I will go in there alone." I pointed to the little corridor to the ultrasound rooms to the left of me. "But, there is a chance we will get some ultrasound pictures, if they give them to us, we will get all of you pictures. Deal?" I smiled a little.
From their innocent facial expressions I expected them to be okay with this. I was a little too quick to think that. "Love, no. This could be our future niece or nephew! We want to be there for both of you. Sorry Logan." Finn said, staring at Logan. He turned around with a face of confusion. It looked like they weren't going to budge on this.
"Oh, we'll take the photos as well." Colin added. Logan and I shared a look. He just shrugged his shoulders, I conceded . We both knew that there was no way we were going to talk them out of going into that office with us.
I sighed, "Fine, I give up." Although I did give into them, I had a plan. I was going to think of something once we were inside the ultrasound room. I might be able to get Dr. May's help, or one the nurses.
I walked over to Logan, he opened his hand towards me to wrap my waist around him. He pulled me in. Our attention went back to the boy's soon enough.
"How'd you know about this anyway?" Logan asked them as we sat down. "You don't remember? You told us last night."' Robert answered him, swapping the baby magazine for another one.
"God! I'm old, I had one glass and I think I was out of it. Although, it means you're a man now, Robert. You can finally handle your alcohol." Logan teased him.
"Says you." Robert responded with a look of annoyance on his face. I tried to contain my laugh, but Finn and Colin were not quite so subtle.
We joked for a while before Colin had to go outside to answer a call, I expected it to be a work call since his whole face shifted to serious mode. I had never really seen Colin take work this seriously, to the point where he actually answered their calls on a Monday evening, outside of work hours.
The boys continued to laugh and joke around, I couldn't shift my attention from Colin though. I saw him pacing back and forth on the pavement outside the clinic. I could see him through the slightly tinted windows in front of me.
Colin finally walked in, staring at his phone. He looked up as he put his phone into his pockets.
"Okay, it's finally done." Colin exclaimed all of a sudden with his hands in the air. I stared at him with confusion. "What are you talking about?" Logan turned around and asked him.
"As of now, The Victorian Inn is officially owned by yours truly, the new Baby Huntzberger. Or is it Gilmore-Huntzberger?" Colin inquired. I didn't answer him, how do you answer that type of question? Logan and I haven't even discussed anything related to the baby yet, apart from a few little things, but names aren't on that list.
"Wait, you still own that? I thought you sold it ." Logan asked Colin.
"Yeah, well I was trying to sell it, but it turns out the market for British themed bed and breakfasts in New Hampshire is not as big as I imagined it to be." Colin replied sarcastically.
"So you decided to give it to your future niece or nephew?" I asked, sounding a bit annoyed.
"Well, I'm not going to do anything with it, maybe my future niece or nephew will."
"Mmmm" I looked at Logan who did not share my similar expression.
'Anyway, I'm just glad that in the end it has a purpose." He said with a giddy smile, obviously pleased with himself.
"Lorelai Gilmore." I turned to face a nurse holding a clipboard, she looked like she was in her thirties or forties. Her hair had small strands of grey hair which was bundled up into a tight bun, she had a mean resting face. The exact type of nurse I need, a mean one.
"I'm Rory Gilmore.' I stood up, along with my many escorts, and walked to her.
"Please follow me." She started to walk into the corridor behind her and I followed quickly, the boys trailing behind me. She suddenly stopped and turned towards me, I thankfully stopped as well or I would have bumped into her. She turned and stared at the boys behind me.
"Why are you following us?" She pierced them with a cold stare. I think I saw their souls leave their bodies.
"Uhh...We're going to see the baby." Finn spoke with a brave tone, he was a fearless man. "All of you are the father?" She asked them and gave me a slightly judgemental glare. Sarcasm and more ice dripping from her voice. She was piercing Finn's face with a death stare, I think it broke him.
"Sorry, No."' He answered with a small voice.
"Then who is?" She asked, and looked all of them over. Her eyes paused on Logan, who was closest to me, and his hand was on my back.
"That would be me. "Logan said. "Only me" He added in a moment, staring back at the boys. I smiled, but part of me wanted to burst out laughing.
"Then you're the only one that can accompany her in the room." The nurse spoke while giving a deadly stare at the rest of the boys. She spun on her heels, resuming her walk down the hallway. Logan and I followed after her.
"But we're the uncles.' Finn cried out with a hint of innocence in his voice. Now I felt a bit bad, they really seemed to care.
The nurse arrived in front of the door labeled "5", she opened the door for Logan and I, staring at the boys. "Not my problem." She replied to them, before closing the door in front of them.
Once inside the room the nurse told me that the Doctor will be in soon and that I should lay on the bed while I wait. Since I was wearing a dress she told me that she would bring in a gown for me to put on. Then she promptly left. I went and sat on the bed, Logan stood beside the bed and held my hand as we stared at the door, eagerly awaiting the doctor's arrival. He took my hand that laid on my lap. I looked up at him and he gave me a loving gase.
"Are you nervous?' He asked me, while he rubbed his finger across my hand.
I took a deep breath and looked up at him. "No, even though I've only done this once, but you're here, so I have nothing to be scared about." Logan kissed my head.
"What about you?" I asked him.
"Maybe a bit." He tried to smile, I could tell he was a bit scared from his eyes, they usually are a light hazelnut color, but when they're dark brown it means he's either angry, scared, nervous or sad. I wanted to lighten the mood.
"Really? I thought Mr Life and Death Brigade wasn't scared of anything." I joked hoping to get him to laugh.
He chuckled. "Ya, well this is a good type of scared." He smiled, I didn't know what to say.
The nurse came into the room and handed me a paper gown, she told us the doctor was running a little late with another patient and it should be long till she's in.
I stripped down and changed. I sat back on the table, Logan and I just sat there waiting in the silence. His hands were stroking mine, he was trying to soothe me, he could sense I was a bit nervous.
Soon there was a knock on the door, I weirdly straightened my back. A woman with dirty blond opened the door and walked. "I am so sorry for the long wait, Rory. I'm sure Meredith, the nurse would have told you why." She smiled and walked over to my bed, she sat on the chair across from me, near the ultrasound machine.
She switched her attention to Logan. "Oh, hello." She reached her hand towards, he leaned forward and clasped her hand in his, they shook hands. As they did I introduced Logan to her. "Doctor May, this is Logan."
"Hello, Logan, pleasure to meet you, I believe you're the father?"
"Yes, I am." He smiled at and looked back at me as he went back to his previous position next to me.
"Good, well let's not hold this appointment off any longer." She misled and opened up a yellow file with my name on it.
"Your file indicates that you're six weeks along." She looked up from the file in her hand.
"But we can't be sure of that until we have a proper ultrasound."
Dr May closed the file shut and stood up to place it on the bench behind her.
"Rory, would you mind laying down on the bed please?" She turned to face me as she opened a cabinet door. grabbed some gloves and a small bottle filled with a clear substance.
She came back and sat in front of me beside the ultrasound machine.
"Now, this might be a little uncomfortable and the gel will be very very cold, but we'll get to see your baby!" She said, ending on a big smile.
I layed on the bed flat, the doctor prepared everything and once I was settled she began the ultrasound. She grabbed the gel and squirted a giant blob of cold transparent jelly onto my stomach, I shivered as it hit my skin. She pressed the transducer probe firmly against my stomach and moved it around. I looked to my side to see the screen, it was black and white with live pictures of my stomach moving on the screen. Logan stood there weirdly mesmerised by the screen, even though there wasn't anything on it. He leaned close to me, our hands clasped in each other, his eyes were glued to the screen.
After a few minutes of moving the probe around my stomach 's pace changed. She started to slowly rotate the probe around my stomach, staring at the screen carefully.
"I guess the baby is hiding." She joked while trying to find a little fetus shaped blob on the screen. I started to get a bit concerned since it had been awhile and I felt like had already covered every vacant inch on my stomach. However, she saw my concerned face and reassured me that this was normal.
"Don't be worried, sometimes the fetus is too small to be seen at plain sight." She turned her head to face me, she gave me a comforting smile.
She turned her face back to the screen, her serious expression returned as the black and white glare from the screen beamed on her face. She resumed rotating the probe.
"Now, a lot of parents come in hoping to hear the heartbeat early on, but since you're only six weeks we sadly can't do that."
"It's okay as long as I get to see the baby." I said, still eagerly staring at the screen trying to find my baby. Logan sensed that I was a bit scared and nervous, he clasped my hand tighter.
I saw her pressing a few buttons on the machine and looking more intently at the screen.
"What is it?" I turned to
She turned to face both Logan and I, "I think we found your baby." She turned the screen so we could see it clearly. She pointed to the small little fetus on the middle of the screen.
I stared at the screen constantly. I let out a sigh of relief, I turned to face Logan who pressed both our hands together tighter. He gave me a loving and excited look, he leaned towards me and gave me a kiss.
Both Logan and I continued to look at the screen, our eyes watched as our baby swooshed around the screen.
I got myself cleaned up and removed the disgusting paper gown and went back to wearing my comfortable dress. I sat there on the bed while filled in a few things on my file, we were carrying on a light conversion about when my next appointment should be when we heard a knock on the door. turned her head to face the door as she announced, "come in."
Soon a familiar curly and messy brown head stuck out through the crack in the door. It was Finn, he looked around the room with his big beady blue eyes.
"Is the Godzilla gone." Finn whispered.
"Finn." Logan said, slightly annoyed at his choice of words to describe the mean nurse.
"The nice nurse…" Logan said while smiling at , "...is gone."
"Oh, good." Finn let out a deep sigh of relief, he pushed the door open wider and walked in with Colin and Robert following from behind.
laughed as the trampied of men walked into the room.
"It's alright, I know Meredith is a bit...tough." She said as her laughter silenced.
"Sorry, about them, this is Finn, Colin, and Robert." I introduced the boys to
"Well, this is certainly an exciting appointment." She said as she smiled around the room.
"We're the uncles!" Finn said excitedly, pointing to himself, Robert, and Colin.
"Well, that's lovely." said as turned to face Logan and I.
"Now, the baby is in perfect health, nothing to worry about. Rory, have you bought those vitamins I prescribed you last time?"
"Yes, the ones in the pink bottle?"
"Exactly those ones. Now, since you're first time parents I expect you want photos?"
"Yes of course." I said, excited at seeing my baby again.
"Alright, let's take some photos. How many would you like?" She asked, her eyes roaming over our boisterous group.
Before I could give out a number Finn announced he would like one.
"One for me." Finn shouted out, he raised his hand in anticipation.
"Me too" Colin followed.
"And me."Robert raised his hand last. They looked adorable standing in the middle of the room with raised hands, and excitement in their and I laughed.
"Well, that's five including those three and yourselves, are there any grandparents that would like a photo?" asked considerately.
"Yes, I need around 7 or so." I wanted copies for mom, Luke, grandma and Dad, that makes four more.
"Wait, Logan." I looked up to him.
"Would Honour want one? And what about your parents?" I asked Logan.
"I'm not sure, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few extras." He said after hesitating for a few seconds.
"I agree as well. So, that makes... 12 I think? Not including the extras."
"So, let's make that fifteen." said smiling, she pressed a few buttons on the machine.
"You can get them in a few at the reception desk." She smiled, "I'll walk you out."
Logan and I followed, we stood up and walked behind .
All of us made our way to the door.
"Rory, we will schedule your next check up in a month. Until then, remember to take your vitamins." smiled and waved us goodbye from the room door.
We were about to turn into the waiting room when I remembered I probably wouldn't be in the states next month. I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Wait." I mumbled
I turned and looked at about to go into the room.
"Dr. Rose?' I turned around to see her.
"We're going to be in London for a few months, we'll be back before the baby comes, I was hoping you could give me the names of a few good OB's in until we move back."
"Of course. I'll have a few names ready, why don't you call me tomorrow morning? said.
"That's great, thank you.' I said with a grateful smile.
We said our goodbyes again and went to the reception desk . In a few minutes we walked out of the clinic with our photos in our hands and the boys excitedly staring at them. The boys wished us good luck with dinner, and we needed it. Logan and I drove off towards his family's house.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
What'd you think? I'm sorry if there's a few grammar or spelling errors. I hope you enjoyed it! I decided to have a different writing style for my next chapter, these past few chapter's I've been writing it from Rory's perspective, which is okay, but I want to try something new.
