Entering the house two hours later Kate sighed kicking off her shoes continuing down the hall
"Hey" he smiled when she walked into the kitchen
"Where's Jai?" she placed her bag down on the bench
"Out the back, what'd the doc say?"
"Bruised rib, bruised spine the flesh wound is looking good doc was pretty impressed with Swain's stitching"

"Negative, just like the test" she gave him a sad look
"Kate I'm…" he reached out for her
"No.." she sniffled "it's okay"
"Can I get you a drink, something to eat?"
"I'm just going to go freshen up" she moved towards the hallway
"At least you know now.. will put your worries at ease"
"Yeah" she nodded before making her way towards her room.
Sitting on the bed a few minutes later Kate brushed her hand through her hair when his voice interrupted
"You okay?"
"Yeah.. just didn't realise I'd be so disappointed"
"I got to say, I honestly thought it would be positive" he moved into the room
"From what Swain was explaining I didn't expect it to be negative"
"Guess it was just lucky you were able to get in with the doc then, just to be a hundred percent sure" he sat down next to her
"Yeah" she laughed softly
"Kate…" he turned to face her "I know it wasn't planned an being disappointed about it feels silly but it's okay to be sad"
"I know" she brushed her hand across his chest
"And besides just think of all the fun it will be to potentially make it happen" he teased
"You really have a one track mind don't you"
"What can I say?" he smirked leaning in to kiss her
"Mummy!" Jai ran into the room
"Monkey" she laughed when he jumped into her arms knocking her backwards
"I missed you" he whispered into her ear
"I missed you more Mr Monkey" she hugged him tight shifting them, so he was laying on the bed and not crushing her
"Daddy come lay down" Jai giggled pulling him down, looking across at Kate Mike smiled softly
"Monkey why don't you go get that present from the backyard hmm"
"Now?" his eyes widened
"I think it's time" Mike nodded
"YAY!" he shifted down the bed, running out of the room
"What are you up too?" Kate rested on her elbow
"I know it's been hard this past month and they could never replace.."
"Mike, what are you going on about?"
"Kate I love you and since losing Dipsy you've been pretty sad.." he began saying when a small bark echoed up the hallway
"You didn't?" she moved to sit up her eyes widening when Jai walked in with a puppy in his arms
"Mummy this is Po" he placed her down on the bed
"Teletubbies?" she looked at Mike with a grin
"Well.. yeah" he moved to sit up, pulling Jai into his lap
"I helped Daddy pick him out" he said excitedly
"He's gorgeous" she ran her hand across his head, the small puppy looking up at her
"As for his breed, apparently it's half German Sheppard and husky mix someone dumped him at the shelter after not being able to look after him so he's about six, seven months"
"Monkey why don't you take him outside again so I can have a word with your Dad" Kate smiled
"Okay" he shifted lifting him up and exiting the room again.
"Did I do something wrong?" he looked at her in confusion when she pushed him back against the mattress
"Quite the opposite" she shifted to straddle his lap
"Kate" he rested his hands across her hips
"Thank you" she leaned down resting her hands on either side of his head
"Well I have a ultimatum"
"Oh?" she smirked when he lifted his head
"Move in with me?" he flipped them
"What?" she said in surprise when he brushed the hair from her face
"I don't want to wake up alone to a cold bed, and I know it's only been a month but.."
"Yes"
"Yes?" he looked down at her in surprise
"I love you" she smiled wrapping her leg around his waist when he leant down teasing her into a kiss,
running his hand across her form he rested it against the side of her neck deepening the kiss he smirked when she ran her hand into his pants
"Kate… Jai's out.."
"He'll be out there for hours" she pulled back from the kiss
"How…" he held back his groan when she made contact with him
"Think of it as your thank you gift" she grinned kissing him softly he groaned against her lips.
4 years later:
"Come on, come on!" he pulled her along the docks
"I'm coming" she laughed when he let her hand go and ran off
"He really is a fireball isn't he?" Maxine laughed
"And believe me it is getting harder to chase after him now he's an independent nine-year old"
"And when him and Ryan are together they are unstoppable" she shook her head
"Thanks again for taking him for the night"
"Please getting to have Jai every Friday is a special thing especially for Ryan"
"I'm hoping to tell him tonight.." Kate bit her lip
"Yeah?"
"I didn't want it to be something you say over the phone and since he's been out at sea for four months it's not exactly something I can hide for much longer" she ran her hand across her small swell
"And the letters from Jim, they've stopped?"
"After four years and two intervention orders yes" Kate stopped across from Hammersley
"He still dosen't understand you've moved on?"
"He still writes McGregor, Mike and I have been married for two years now and he still refuses to accept that" she waved her hand
"Look I better leave you too it, just send Monkey to my office when you're done"
"Sure thanks Max" she smiled watching her walk off.
Running across the docks Mike smiled widely embracing Kate in a big hug he lifted her into his arms "God I missed you"
"Well aren't you lucky I missed you too sailor" she kissed him lightly when he placed her back down
"There's something different…" he looked at her in confusion
"Different?" she raised an eyebrow when he moved back looking her up and down
"Kate…" his eyes stopped at her abdomen
"Yep?"
"Are you…" he reached a hand out resting it across her stomach
"I was planning on surprising you tonight, but I guess you're just to observant" she smirked
"You're Pregnant?" his eyes widened
"Four months today" she placed her hand over his
"Kate.." he began to tear up
"It may or may not also be a girl"
"A little girl?"
"A girl" she nodded
"We're… we're having a daughter?" he wrapped his arms around her in a hug kissing her passionately,
standing on Hammersley with 2Dads Jai smiled widely at his parents after everything they'd been through from a one night stand to a lifetime of love he knew that this was just the beginning.
