Blackpaw sat in the corner of camp, staring at the camp with narrowed eyes, as he usually did. He watched as the cats who'd gotten attacked by ThunderClan had their wounds treated by the Medicine cats, Sootwing and Bluestorm. The black tom's gaze left the wounded and drifted around the camp. He saw Palefeather talking to her mate, Sparrowfrost, and was about to walk over to his mentor when he saw Moonpaw looking rather...suspicious.
Eh, everyone looks suspicious to me. It's probably nothing. He thought with a shrug. But the thought kept nagging at his mind as he saw Moonpaw leave camp. Blackpaw rolled his eyes a little at his own persistence to follow her and waited for a few moments. Then he padded out of camp, trying to keep his paw steps as quiet as possible, and followed Moonpaw.
He crept through the bushes, his eyes narrowed as he watched Moonpaw head towards the ThunderClan border. Why would she go there? A patrol just got attacked by ThunderClan! He thought, eyes narrowing more. Wait...what if she's spying on ShadowClan for ThunderClan? Blackpaw rolled his eyes again at himself. No, she's a medicine cat. Moonpaw wouldn't do that.
But thoughts and possibilities kept pouring into his head… That's what she wants you to think. Moonpaw is definitely a spy for ThunderClan! What if she sneaks deathberries into the leader's prey?
"Shut up, Blackpaw." He muttered quietly to himself. "She's probably just going out to gather herbs like all Medicine cats do."
It turns out Blackpaw was right. Moonpaw was just gathering herbs. He let out a small, relieved sigh when he saw her gathering together some tansy. See, she's just gathering herbs. Exactly what Medicine cats are supposed to do. Calm down, Blackpaw.
Blackpaw tensed when he saw a ThunderClan cat jump out from their side of the border and pin Moonpaw down. He was about to jump out and defend his Clanmate...but it would probably just cause a fight. Blackpaw backed up, going deeper into the bush, and tried not to step on any twigs. He didn't want Moonpaw, and whoever this ThunderClan cat was, to know he was there.
"Who are you?" Blackpaw heard the ThunderClan cat growl. He scowled when he realized that it was Sleekpaw. His least favorite ThunderClan cat.
"It's just me, Moonpaw!" Moonpaw said defensively. Blackpaw noticed her trying to free herself from the cat's grip. Seriously, why don't Medicine cats get more and better battle training? He thought and rolled his eyes a little.
Blackpaw watched Sleekpaw and Moonpaw interact, smirking when Sleekpaw realized that she was on the wrong side of the border. That's what ya get. He thought.
Blackpaw was about to walk out of the bushes when Sleekpaw left, but decided against it when he remembered that he was supposed to meet his- ahem- friend, Mallowpaw tonight. It was already getting dark.
The black tom waited until Moonpaw left with the tansy, and then padded out of the undergrowth. He plucked out the twigs and leaves in his pelt and hastily groomed it while he waited for Mallowpaw.
"Hey there, stranger." A voice said and Blackpaw lifted his head, smiling when he saw his beautiful-er- okay-looking friend emerge from the bushes on the ThunderClan side of the border.
"Hello," Blackpaw said, trying to keep his tail from waving around excitedly.
"You sure look happy," Mallowpaw mused, walking over to Blackpaw and giving his ear a friendly lick. Blackpaw purred and stood up.
"So are we still gonna have a race?" He asked.
Mallowpaw shook her head and sat down. "Nah, I'm tired." She said. "Vinestar made me run around part of the forest today. That was exhausting."
"Oh, that sucks." Blackpaw nodded, knowing that he was being Captain Obvious, but he didn't know what else to say. Sympathy wasn't really his thing.
"Duh," Mallowpaw rolled her eyes. "Anyways, how's your day been buddy?"
Blackpaw shrugged. "I had a suspicion that Moonpaw was spying for your Clan…" he said and Mallowpaw let out a bark of laughter.
"Yeah, we'd definitely want a Medicine cat to spy for us!" She said, almost doubled over with laughter. Blackpaw sighed a little and then joined in the laughter. Better to laugh with someone than be laughed at. Besides, his suspicion was pretty stupid anyways.
"How's your day been?" Blackpaw asked, then added, "besides the forest."
"Boring," Mallowpaw sighed. "I was forced to entertain Rootkit, Rosekit, and Mintkit all morning. They are a pawful."
"Well, y'know kits." Blackpaw shrugged. "They're always pawfuls."
"How would you know?" Mallowpaw raised a brow.
"There are eleven kits in my Clan," Blackpaw answered. "They're everywhere."
"You got a good point," she nodded.
After chatting with Mallowpaw for a while, Blackpaw decided it was time to head back to camp. The moon was high in the sky and he was pretty tired. And Mallowpaw looked like she was about to drop to the ground from exhaustion.
As he padded back to camp, he thought about how strange Darkstar and Shadowstripe had been acting lately. First of all, they'd added a lot more patrols throughout the day. Second of all, Blackpaw had seen Darkstar and Shadowstripe flirting with a lot of she-cats recently...it was kinda creepy.
Blackpaw shuddered as he walked back into camp, groaning when he heard Palefeather call out his name.
"Blackpaw! Where have you been?" She asked, padding over to him with a strict look on her face.
"I just went on a walk!" Blackpaw said defensively. "Is there something wrong with that?"
"As a matter of fact, yes, there is something wrong with that!" Palefeather argued. "You didn't tell anybody that you were leaving camp, it's the middle of the night, and a patrol was just attacked by ThunderClan!"
Blackpaw rolled his eyes. "You act as if I'm a helpless kit that can't do hardly anything." He growled. "NEWSFLASH, I'm perfectly fine on my own!"
"Yes, you proved that when we found you." Palefeather hissed, then realized what she had said. "Blackpaw, I'm-"
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" He shouted. Blackpaw was furious. "Just...leave me alone. I'm going to bed."
With that, the black tom stormed over to the Apprentices' den and collapsed into his nest, closing his eyes and falling asleep almost immediately.
Hello everyone! Sorry it took me a while to get back to this, I've been under a lot of stress with school, mental health stuff, and...things. Anyways, I hope you liked the chapter! I don't really have anything else to say so I shall shuteth my mouth now.
