Marinette stared at him in shock, mouth dry. What was she even supposed to say? She felt like words wouldn't even be enough to explain her actions.

"I...I..." This was surely not how she would have envisioned a reveal, if it were to happen. She would have never thought that Adrien, of all people, was Chat Noir. But now the reveal had happened, and there was Adrien, standing in front of her, waiting for an answer.

Marinette looked away. The kwamis watched them in interest, floating besides them. Tikki shot her a look, signaling her to tell him.

Now?! Marinette thought.

"I...I like you..."

Adrien blinked slowly, he opened and closed his mouth a few times, like he couldn't the right words either.

Marinette continued, "And I always liked you, from the moment you ever gave me that umbrella. I...I just didn't tell you."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Adrien mumbled finally. He didn't know how he felt. It felt strange. Ladybug and Marinette were two different people...not the same person. Maybe he was dreaming. Hallucinating. Whatever. This wasn't real, it couldn't be real.

"I didn't want to ruin our friendship. And...and you had Kagami." Marinette spoke hesitantly, as if she was choosing her words carefully.

"But what about Luka?" Adrien looked confused.

"There never was a Luka. Luka and I were never a thing. I just brought him along to the ice rink to try and make you jealous, which obviously didn't work."

"If you'd have just told me-"

"That's so easy for you to say!" Marinette suddenly snapped at him, "You're not the one who's always shy around people! Why don't you put yourself in my shoes?"

"You might not have been akumatized if you'd have told me."

"Would it have been any better if you'd have rejected me?! Face it, if you didn't know I was Ladybug, you would have probably freaked out. You're still freaked out. You'd have never liked me back."

Adrien went silent.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. After all, why would you, when there's oh-so-perfect Kagami."

"I thought you two were friends! You tried to attack her!"

"I was akumatized! I wasn't thinking straight!"

"Just like you 'weren't thinking straight' when you nearly destroyed the town?!"

Plagg and Tikki looked confused.

"Like you've never made a mistake!"

"This isn't a 'mistake', people's lives were at risk! You risked EVERYTHING just for your own benefit!"

"My own benefit?" Marinette seethed, "Totally sounds like something you wouldn't do. After all, you're SO full of yourself. It's not like I wanted to become akumatized."

Adrien growled, "At least I took a chance with you as Chat. At least I told you my feelings, and at least I sucked it up, and accepted the reality that you didn't feel the same way I felt about you."

"Well maybe I'm shyer than you!"

"That can't be your excuse for nearly destroying everything!"

"You don't even know the first thing about what I've been going through!"

"Like you know what I'VE been going through!"

"NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU!"

The arguing continued, and each second, Plagg and Tikki looked more and more confused.

"Come on Plagg, we're leaving." Adrien snapped, his eyes narrowed into slits. Marinette glared at him.

"If that's how you want to do it, fine! Two can play that game! Tikki, we're leaving too!"

Tikki and Plagg gave each other panicked looks.

"Wait! We can fix this! You two can talk this out! There's no reason to get upset!" Plagg said.

"Agreste, mind telling your kwami that he's speaking nonsense?"

"Agreste? Really?! Fine, Dupain-Cheng. Plagg, come on."

Plagg looked torn.

"Even your kwami doesn't want to come with you. Tikki, let's go."

Tikki glanced at her owner, then back at Plagg.

"TIKKI!" Marinette called after her. Tikki didn't respond, but flew to Plagg's side once again.

Marinette's lip quivered, and her gaze shifted to Adrien:

"I can't believe I ever liked you." She whispered. With that, she ran off. Something flashed in Adrien's eyes. Maybe it was regret. Or anger. He looked back over his shoulder. He shook his head, then ran off, leaving the kwamis alone.

"Of all the ways I envisioned this reveal, this was definitely not one of them." Plagg lashed his tail in frustration, "They're both just so dense!"

"What do we do now, though?" Tikki asked.

"I don't know." Plagg admitted, "This has never happened with the past Chat Noir or past Ladybug."

Tikki stiffened, "If they go on like this, they could destroy each other. Look at what hate directed towards Kagami did. Imagine what hate directed towards one another could do. This isn't a normal akumatization we're talking about. The cat Miraculous and ladybug Miraculous are the most powerful Miraculous to exist. If they both get akumatized, they would kill each other. Hawk Moth would get their Miraculous. He could win. This is serious, Plagg."

"If only I could talk some sense into the kid. He's so stubborn, I doubt he'll even listen." Plagg grumbled.

"I don't think Marinette will listen to me either. If only Master Fu was still around, she'd listen to him." Tikki said sadly.

Plagg's eyes widened, a lightbulb going off in his mind.

"Uh-oh, Plagg has an idea. That can't be good." Tikki smiled.

"I'm going to go check on Adrien. Meet me at the Agreste manor gate in an hour, I'll tell you the plan."

"Okay." Tikki agreed, "Good luck."

"Thanks. I'm going to need it. We'll get them to make amends..." He looked to see if Tikki was gone. When he was sure she was, he muttered, "I hope..."

Does this count as a cliffhanger?! Hopefully not 😋

Oof hopefully this wasn't cringy...I'm not good with romance, so of course I had to squeeze some angst in there O~O
