Chapter 16:
The Truth About Ubinasfi
Hours later, still under the cover of night, the hole filled with water rests calmly until heavy footsteps were heard as the thuds caused the water's surface to ripple.
Then the snout of the Tyrannocervus lower down and then started drinking the water as the Allorhinus approached him. These two meat-eaters could have trekked across the barren wasteland for possibly days before coming across the herd's trail. This could very well be the first drink of water they've had since the destruction of the comet collision and the massive earthquake. The Allorhinus leans down and lightly growls hoping for a turn, as clearly they had a hierarchy in rank. As the Tyrannocervus gets the first drink of water and the first bite of food and everything else.
Soon the Tyrannocervus finished drinking and washing down the meal of the Tenontohippus stallion scout and lifts his head up as the Allorhinus starts to drink.
The Tyrannocervus then looks out ahead as distant thunder was heard as storm clouds started to gather with lightning flashing and saw the tracks left from the herd as they lead towards the mountains in the distance as he lightly growled staring at them.
Miles away in the mountains, lightning flashed as Uhuru and his friends are now far behind from the herd.
" Oh, great! First, we lost our home, then we found water, and now we're left behind," said One-ton complaining, then he said as he covered his eyes in fright " And we'll end up as Sharp-teeth snack,". " Don't worry One-ton. Ubinasfi may have done bad things before. But he'll never let anything harm us," said Mabawa trying to make One-ton feel better, Bulldozer scoffed and said " Are you kidding, me? We didn't trust him before and we don't trust him now,". Then Bulldozer looks over at Uhuru with an angry glare and said " And why didn't somebody say that we are being left behind? Uhuru?". " I thought you might be angry," said Uhuru looking back at Bulldozer nervously, " Angry? Angry?. Oh, Uhuru, I'm not angry," said Bulldozer, Uhuru looked at Bulldozer feeling relieved until Bulldozer let out his anger and said " I'M FURIOUS!".
Then Bulldozer charged towards Uhuru, only to be stopped by Trya again. " You can't blame it on Uhuru, Bulldozer," said Trya informing Bulldozer that it wasn't Uhuru's fault, then she said " Uhuru didn't know Ubinasfi was so dangerous. He wasn't with us when it all happened,".
This got Uhuru even more bewildered than before. He has got to know what they're talking about. " When what'll happen? You guys didn't tell me anything," said Uhuru, " Dudes, Uhuru is right," said One-ton, " I'm afraid he is. I'm sorry if this will be painful for you Uhuru," said Trya, Mabawa deeply sighed in sadness and said " It is time he knew the truth,".
" Well, see Uhuru this all began not long after our home was destroyed by the giant earthquake," said Trya to Uhuru as she looked out into the horizon, the flashback then begins.
…
~Flashback Of Ubinasfi's Past~
The flashback begins with Ubinasfi walking along a ledge above the herd by himself. Then he got an evil-like smirk on his face and starts heading down.
Meanwhile, down below, the herd was walking out of their valley home as they trekked across the landscape. Then Trya and her herd stopped as three Ultratheriums lowered their heads to grab a drink from a small creek. Along with them, is a Corythohippus drinking on the same side on the right side of Trya's herd, a Paraburrolophus doing the same on the left, a Lambeohippus is drinking on the opposite side, and Bulldozer who's also drinking on the same side close to Trya and her herd. Trya looked over at Bulldozer as they both nodded at each other.
" We too set out to find The Valley Of Freedom. But finding it in separate herds was hard. So we decided to work together as a group and we all agreed that no one should be our leader," said Trya narrating the story.
As the herd continued on, Ubinasfi ran and jumped onto a high rock ridge as a Styracoscruffa, Paraburrolophus, Corythohippus, Lambeohippus, Kentrotherium, and a Stegotherium came to a stop and listen to him. Then Ubinasfi talked to the herd with pride as he looks down at the herd. The herd looked at him with different expressions. Some like the Styracoscruffa, Paraburrolophus, Corythohippus, Lambeohippus, Tenontohippus, Ankylotherium, and the Kentrotherium looked at Ubinasfi with fascination. While others like Trya, Mabawa, Bulldozer, and One-ton looked at him with angry faces.
" But Ubinasfi didn't like being in a herd with no leader. So he decided that he should be in charge. For some reason, he felt like he always knew more than the rest of us," said Trya.
~Back In The Present~
" Really? But why would he do that?" asked Uhuru confused.
" We don't know Uhuru. But we do know is that for some reason, some of the herd believed Ubinasfi," said Trya as we then head back to the flashback.
~Back In The Flashback~
In the flashback, Ubinasfi was still standing on the high rock ridge and then whinnies out as he points to where the herd should follow him. As Ubinasfi gives his first order, a Styracoscruffa, Corythohippus, Ouranoquagga, Paraburrolophus, and an Ankylotherium went in the direction he ordered them as Ubinasfi jumps off and heads to the front to lead.
" Soon he led them away from the rest of us," said Trya.
Ubinasfi has been leading his small herd down a path in a canyon-like landscape until they'd arrived at a large crevice and entered a ravine with Ubinasfi in front of them. As they entered, they see that the area was filled with water and green food.
" They were sure that Ubinasfi had all the answer. They were sure that he wouldn't lead them astray...They were wrong," said Trya.
Ubinasfi stopped as he looked to see his herd members following him into the valley ravine.
Following behind him, a Tenontohippus, Paraburrolophus, and Corythohippus entered the ravine until rocks began to fall startling them. " What was that?" asked the Tenontohippus, " Danger!" said the Paraburrolophus, the three Ungusaurs begin to run as more rocks fall down. The Lambeohippus, Styracoscruffa, and the Ouranoquagga noticed the falling rocks and followed the others to get away from the falling rocks. Another Paraburrolophus was falling behind as she ran from the crevice that is now blocked by fallen rocks.
Then descending from the walls, a trio of Deinonychus-like Ungusaurs with feathers that go from their tail to their face, over-sized talon-like hooves on their feet, and sharp teeth approached the herd.
These Ungusaurs are called Deinonytherium, cousins of the Archerentelos but are much bigger and they also have bigger toe talon-like hooves.
" Sharp-teeth!" yelled a herd member.
Ubinasfi and his herd backed up in fear as one Deinonytherium bared his claws and teeth at them.
The Deinonytherium trio surrounded a Styracoscruffa, their first victim. Seeing that he's surrounded and outnumbered, the Styracoscruffa hesitated for a minute as one of Deinonytherium hissed at him and prepares to jump. But the Styracoscruffa fought back and headbutts one into the air. Ubinasfi saw the conflict and then he turned to his left to see two Deinonytherium attacking two other members of his herd.
One Deinonytherium is attacking an Ankylotherium and the other is attacking a Tenontohippus. But the Ankylotherium fought back and swatted his clubbed tail at the predator, causing it to lose some of its teeth and the Tenontohippus raises on his hind legs and whinnies at the other Deinonytherium trying to intimidate it. While the two are fighting, a Paraburrolophus ran past behind them and a Kentrotherium was running aside the Ankylotherium.
The third Deinonytherium runs after an Ouranoquagga as the body of an unknown herd member collapsed to the ground.
Ubinasfi looked back to his left and sees a Paraburrolophus hanging to the ledge of a cliff for dear life. But she slowly loses her grip as she tries to hold on but it was no use. Then with a snap, the Paraburrolophus lost her grip and falls all the way to her death down below. Ubinasfi closed his eyes in shame for he never wanted this to happen. Having enough, Ubinasfi climbed the blocked crevice and escape through a small hole as the shadow of a Deinonytherium and Corythohippus looms over some rocks. The Deinonytherium then jumps at the defenseless plant-eater as she lost her balance and trembles over.
Back with the rest of the herd at night, the herd was sleeping peacefully as Trya yawned. Then she turned to see Ubinasfi has returned without the others. Bulldozer woke up and also looked over at Ubinasfi. Ubinasfi looked at the two with sadness and bowed his head away from them in shame.
" Ubinasfi never told us what had happened. Only that it wasn't his fault. And we never saw any of the others again," said Trya finishing the story.
Trya and Bulldozer looked at each other with confusion and shock and then they looked back at Ubinasfi.
