The following day when Moira returned from eating lunch in the dining room she found a large white box on the bed and she opened it to find a dress inside. She noticed it was an unusual looking dress as she pulled it out and held it at arms length. The dress was long sleeved and fell to her feet. It was mostly red with gold embroidery, but there were symbols all over the dress some in different colors such as the green four leaf clover that sat prominently on the hem. There was also a seven, a horseshoe, dice, a ladybug and various other animals and symbols that were cleverly tucked into the embroidery. Some were gold while others were different colors and stood out more. There was a note included in the box that asked her to wear the dress and join Mr. Hunsen for dinner that night. Moira bit her lip in worry. It was now obvious to her that Mr. Hunsen had heard about her reputation and Moira wondered if that was the reason the man wanted to adopt her. Perhaps he was a gambler and wanted her as a lucky charm or something. She sighed and changed into the dress. At least it was thick enough to keep the chill in the room at bay. There was a pair of red shoes in the bottom of the box as well with gold bows on the front. They were short heeled shoes and looked normal except for the rainbow colored insoles. Also included were gold earrings that had a stone that looked like it had flecks of gold in them and there was a large barrette as well with gold ribbons for her hair. There were words embroidered on the ribbons, but she couldn't decipher them so the words were neither English nor Danish. She looked at her reflection in the mirror after she finished dressing and frowned. The dress wasn't bad looking, but she didn't like the fact that Mr. Hunsen obviously knew about her gift and wasn't trying to hide it. She didn't know if she could live with someone that only saw her as a tool. Maybe he wanted to increase his fortune or he needed her luck for business ventures, but regardless of the reason, she felt she was better off in the orphanage. Compared to what she had heard about the group homes back in the States, her current orphanage was like living in a large cabin in the woods. The caretaker was nice and the children were friendly so why wouldn't she want to remain there. Sure being pampered and getting what she wanted would be nice, but if he kept her locked up in the mansion, that would be a lonely existence. She sighed again. There wasn't much she could do right now, but try to meet him and see what he really wanted.
"Okay, so what did you see?" asked Bunny leaning against one of North's cabinets.
"There's a mansion in the mountains and there was this girl," said Jack.
"Oh, really," said the Tooth Fairy raising an eyebrow. "How is that relevant?"
"I'm getting to that," said Jack waving her away. "I've seen her before in another house in town."
"Okay?" said Bunny confused.
"Listen, she was in a dark room and the closet behind her opened all by itself," said Jack.
A question mark appeared over the Sandman's head.
"Right, what did you see?" asked North in anticipation.
"I didn't see anything," said Jack shrugging. "It was just dark."
"Well, that's a let down," said Bunny shaking his head.
"Are you sure the door didn't just swing open on its own?" asked the Tooth Fairy while Sandy raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing came out," said Jack. "It was weird though because everything became really quiet. There was no sound and when the girl flipped the light back on, the closet door was shut."
"That's creepy mate, but I don't think it will help us," said Bunny.
Sandy waved for attention and then placed a finger on his lips.
"Okay," said Bunny confused. "We're being quiet."
Sandy shook his head emphatically and put his finger to his lips again and North seemed to come to a realization. "It's Silence," he said and Sandy nodded his head in agreement.
"We get that it was silent," said Bunny.
"No, we're dealing with Silence," said North. "It can be a dark corner, closet or even just the darkness itself in the room," he explained. "Worse than any nightmare because you're actually awake the darkness seems to loom over you and you strain your ears to hear any sound that will tell you that someone's there, but there's no sound at all. Sometimes all you can hear is the beating of your own heart."
Bunny and the Tooth Fairy exchanged a glance as neither had been aware of what he was describing.
"Is he like Pitch?" asked Jack.
"No, because he doesn't have a definite form," said North. "He's the monster in the darkness that is never seen."
Sandy sent some golden sand into the air and formed it into a blob and in the blob some eyes formed.
"So how do we defeat him?" asked Bunny.
"We don't," said North. "He's not a threat by himself so there has to be something that we're missing."
"So I guess we need to check out that mansion," said Bunny twirling his boomerang.
"Let's go," said North. "I fear we have little time left."
