Chapter 7: The Newcomers
The day after Morty was arrested, Tim, Sam and their men had to leave the island so they could hand the man scientist over to Interpol for trial in the Hague.
At Jurassic World, life resumed its normal course with Peyton and her friends playing Call of Duty games, Owen helping Wu to find out more about his niece, Barry and Hoskins taking over after the Utahraptors have been put in their pens, Claire overseeing Vivian and Lowery's work in the control room. Marco was offered a job as a security consultant and a house alongside his daughter Quinn. When Valentina was examining her toy box, the now-four-year-old little girl inadvertently dropped it. Seeing something shiny, she wondered out loud about the object while picking it up.
"What is this obwect?"
"What the heck is this?" Peyton asked rushing upstairs
"I don't know what the stwange thing is. It fell out of Mommy's pwesent box." Valentina told her cousin.
As Dean picked the toddler up, Peyton took the object and realized it was a USB port. The teenager then went to her armory and picked a IWI X95 carbine fitted with a Mepro 21 sight, a torchlight/laser aiming module and a vertical grip. She loaded a magazine into the weapon before removing the safety and went with the rest of her friends in her SUV before driving to the control room. During the drive, Peyton called her father, Wu, Barry, Hoskins and Masrani to tell them to meet her in the control room.
Once at the control room, Peyton showed Lowery the USB port she had in her pocket and gave him while giving him some instructions.
"Hey, Lowery. This USB port could have the answers to our many questions"
With that said, everyone went in front of the main screen as Vivian put the contents on display. Lowery then opened a file, then a video displaying Alma Grady, Peyton's aunt. The video was actually a confession to her daughter.
"Listen sweatheart. I know I'm in danger because of a mad man named Renaldo Morty wants to take a serum I designed. I wanted to give up the product, named Project Nature, to prevent that mad man from getting his hands on it. It has been designed to be injected in an unborn vessel and can give his host an enhanced hearing, an improved eyesight, a better sense of taste and healing powers. I only want to protect you, you know. I also specified in my will I wanted your uncle Owen to get your custody even if Daddy opposed to it, because he lives with Peyton. I love you Valentina sweatheart."
As they watched the video, Lowery, Vivian, Claire, Hoskins, Barry, Marco, his daughter, Liz, Liv and Mary began to silently cry while Dean, Rick, Lindy, Peyton and Kelli remained emotionless on the outside, even if they felt bad. Peyton then tapped Liv's shoulder and motioned her friend she would bring her car there. Liv motioned an 'Okay' sign.
"Now I understand why that motherfucker named Morty needed my cousin. He needed her to handle his own dinosaurs with the intent of crushing the whole world." Peyton deduced focusing away from Liz.
With that said, Peyton and her friends, minus Liv, Liz and Mary, went out of the control room and walked towards Peyton's car before driving back at her home, where Dean drove Liv's car and followed Peyton's to the control room parking lot, where they reunited. With that done, the quartet drove to Main Street, where Peyton parked her car.
The group then walked to the new Compy paddock, where some of the captured Compies were waiting for their food. Peyton took a piece of steak and tossed it to the hungry Compies which ate it within a few seconds. After a while looking the hungry dinosaurs eating their meal, Peyton heard her father's voice.
"Good news, the Utahraptor paddock is okay for opening to the public, like Paddock 11."
"About time! And the little brat in your arms?" Peyton asked her father.
"Indeed, and the brat Valentina just got brattier than before." Owen told his daughter and her friends.
Hearing these words, Valentina began to pout, much to the amusement of Peyton and her friends, who now enjoyed that Peyton's father recognized his niece as a spoiled brat./
Peyton then got a text from Mary telling her Liv, Liz and her would go to the outdoor cinema to watch a romantic movie and they could still be on friendly terms, though not as close as before. Peyton texted back stating she would go to see a war movie with Kelli, Dean, Rick and Lindy, who accepted to see Steven Spielberg's 'Saving Private Ryan' and Sam Mendes' 'Jarhead'. Peyton also added a looser friendship wasn't a problem anyways.
The five teenagers went to the outdoor cinema, where they sat in the waiting area. There, they saw Zach, Gray, Liv, Liz, Mary and their friends of Camp Cretaceous were watching James Cameron's 'Titanic'. That made Kelli fall asleep while Dean, Rick and Lindy played paper-rock-scissors not to get bored. Peyton drew some pictures of US Marines and US soldiers fighting in Vietnam and Afghanistan while waiting their turn. But the next group was Valentina and other toddlers, alongside Owen and some other adults for surveillance, who were watching Teletubbies, which frustrated Peyton and her remaining friends.
During the animated movie projection, Valentina couldn't stop giggling while her uncle got so bored he quickly fell asleep. Peyton suddenly interrupted the animated movie and instead put in the CD of 'Saving Private Ryan' and started the movie. After the intro of the movie, Valentina began crying while Peyton and her close friends took some notes for their history classes beginning in September 2014. Valentina cried as she saw US soldiers being blown to pieces by mortar rounds, others killed by machine gun fire or blown in half by German 88 millimeter rounds. The sound effect caused Owen to wake up, after which he smirked, seeing how Peyton and her friends used war movies to supplement their history books.
Seeing Valentina crying, Claire picked her up and craddled her while Peyton and her friends kept watching 'Saving Private Ryan', which made parents come to comfort their toddlers. But little did Claire know Peyton and her friends had an oral presentation about D-Day in Normandy for September 2014. After the war intro, Peyton and her friends took their CD back and walked to where Owen was standing. Claire then put the 'Teletubbies' CD back in the computer and played the film again. Valentina and other toddlers resumed the projection giggling.
"Thank you, Cwaiwe. Peyton and hew fwiends awe cowawds. I wemembew Daddy and Mommy saying waw movies awe fowbidden to evewy age. Daddy said me the Waffen-SS sowdiews and Vietcong twoops wewe hewoes. Daddy awso said the Amewican soldiews wewe aww monstews." Valentina proudly said, which shocked Owen
"YOU LITTLE SCUMBAG! UNCLE MATT BRAINWASHED YOU! THE WAFFEN-SS, MINUS THE 9TH SS-PANZER, ARE SADISTIC MONSTERS! THE VIETCONG TROOPS, TOO!" Peyton yelled loudly.
"Peyton's right, Valentina. Grandpa fought in Vietnam while your great-grandfather fought in World War Two. They saw how the IJA, Vietcong and the nazis treated their prisoners." Owen added.
"Pwisonews awe woosews. I pwefew pewsons who nevew have been captuwed by anyone in any waw. The sowdiews back fwom Vietnam desewved to be tweated poowly. The SS twoops awe stiww hewoes." Valentina giggled contemptuously.
Peyton then pinched her cousin's cheeks to force the brainwashed toddler to watch a YouTube compilation made and displayed by Owen himself. On Owen's video, everyone could see the horrors the American troops discovered in the concentration camps in Germany. There were also the images of assassinated Jewish prisoners by the nazis in the Soviet Union. In the second part of Owen's video, the children, teenagers and adults present saw the tortures inflicted to American prisoners in Hanoi during the Vietnam War, as well as the starved POWs in Japanese camps in WW2. They also discovered the poor treatment inflicted to a young Senator John McCain during his emprisonment in Hanoi. The third part displayed the 1946 Nuremberg Trials, the 1945 Tokyo Trials and footage of the infamous Boat People.
Valentina was shocked. It couldn't be! Her father has never lied to her! It must be some fake footage! Valentina's little world crumbled to pieces as she now found out why Peyton held such a high esteem of their great-grandfather for fighting against the nazis in the Second World War and their grandfather for fighting in Vietnam. She now learned the hard way who her father was: a pathetic liar, a contemptuous man who admired evil men like Hitler or Ho-Chi-Minh, an extremist who would never tolerate anyone different and a toxic father who would always look forward to having an argument with anyone disagreeing with him.
Valentina began to cry, not because of her older cousin pinching her cheeks, but because she now knew she grew up being brainwashed with hatred. The toddler cried to the point of angering all of the dinosaurs in the park, forcing the ACU to intervene while the handlers calmed the animals down
"WHY DID YOU WIE TO ME, DADDY? WHY? I HAD THE WIGHT TO KNOW! I HAD THE WIGHT TO KNOW WHO YOUW GWANDPA HAD BEEN! I HAD THE WIGHT TO KNOW WHO MINE WAS!" Valetina yelled crying.
Peyton and her friends watched with satisfaction as the toddler cried, as they now knew she would change for the better and not follow the trend set by her father. Owen picked up his niece, turned the computer off and walked to his jeep before putting Valentina in the baby chair and driving home. Peyton and her friends fist-bumped each other and parted ways as they went back home. The teenager now knew what life without her uncle meant.
The following day, Peyton went to the Utahraptor paddock with Valentina in Owen's arms. Peyton lured out the Utahraptors with a huge pig and whistled, signaling them it was time for food. Blue, Delta, Echo and Charlie jumped on the pig and tore it apart. In the observation room, Owen, Hoskins, Barry and the other employees watched the whole scene unfolded while Valentina cried loudly, finding it inhumane and gross to feed dinosaurs with an animal.
On the catwalk, Peyton saw Charlie tearing a piece of flesh and heading for the gate. The teenager jumped inside the paddock, catching the other animals' attention. The animals didn't attack Peyton and Charlie presented the teenager with the best piece of flesh from the pig. Peyton took it and tossed it to Blue, who swallowed it whole. Peyton then took a treat and gave it to Echo, before doing the same for Delta. Peyton then left the paddock through the gate, opened by Leon.
Entering in the observation room, Peyton called out the others.
"Hey guys, should study more about the toddler."
"You're right, I'll take her to the lab." Barry suggested as he took Valentina from her uncle's arms.
"YOU'WE SO CWUEL! YOU DESEWVE GOD'S ANGEW!" Valentina told her cousin.
Peyton made her the finger, which was sufficient for Valentina to stop talking. Peyton then watched the Utahraptors eat their new meal. Suddenly, she tapped her father's shoulder.
"What are the news?" she asked.
"Well, Morty arrived in the Hague and trials against him have begun, as did demonstrations to have him jailed. We also have three new guys, who will meet Jason on the beach. Names are Sofia Johnson, Alex Winchester and Mike Jones." Owen informed his daughter.
"Fuck. Gotta babysit again." Peyton told her father.
"Yes. Claire told me to tell you to wait for them at the docks." Owen informed his daughter handing her photos of Mike, Sofia and Alex before heading to the lab.
Peyton looked at the pictures, put them in her pocket and exited the observation room. Then, she mounted her car and drove to the docks. At the docks, the ferry has just arrived and the passengers were coming on the jety. Among the passengers were Mike Jones, Alex Winchester and Sofia Johnson. Mike Jones was raised by his father, who had divoced with his alcoholic mother, before getting a passion for dinosaurs and genetics. Alex was raised by very religious parents, who were kind and open-minded, unlike many other believers. Sofia on the other hand was born in a poor family before getting a job at Jurassic World, which she saw as an opportunity to help her family. The three of them befriended on the ferry to Isla Nublar.
Arriving at the edge of the crowd, Sofia saw a teenager wearing a sage green baseball cap, a pair of Woodland MARPAT fire-resistant trousers, a US M81 Woodland jacket and a pair of Desert USMC Boots. The teenager also had an Olive Drab paratrooper backpack in her hand and was standing next to a black 2010 Chevy Suburban.
"You Sofia Johnson?" the mysterious teen asked.
"Yes. Why?" Sofia asked./
"I'm Peyton Grady. I bet the blonde girl is Alex Winchester and the dark-haired dude here is Mike Jones." Peyton replied.
"Yes, you're right." Sofia replied.
As Alex and Mike arrived near Sofia, Peyton opened her car trunk and let out an Ephod jacket with a customize IWI X95 carbine strapped to it and a customized Colt M4A1 carbine before motioning the trio to put their stuff in the trunk. Alex, Mike and Sofia did as motionned while wondering why Peyton didn't wear shorts and a tank top instead of bulky clothes. Alex indeed wore a floral dress and sandals, while Sofia wore a yellow t-shirt, a blue short skirt and a pair of Converse with Mike wearing sandals, blue shorts and a red t-shirt.
"Case you're wondering, you're gonna have to shoot and run if a dino escapes. You'd last two minutes in there. Less in those ridiculous shoes." Peyton said sternly to the three new employees.
The three of them sat in Peyton's car while the teenager closed the tailgate and took the wheel. Peyton drove the car to the Innovation Center, where they would meet Jason Archer and Claire Dearing. After arriving there, Peyton guided the trio to where Dr. Wu was. Wu, Claire, Barry, Jason and Owen were watching Valentina, who had electrodes strapped to her head, from a secure room. In front of the little girl was a dinosaur ressembling a light brown Utahraptor with a Spinosaurus snout and sail. The staff has dubbed this animal Sonny.
"Hey, guys! Guess you're trying to understand more about the little brat." Peyton teased the adults.
"Yes. And did you bring the..." Claire pompously asked before stopping, seeing Peyton indeed brought Alex Winchester, Mike Jones and Sofia Johnson. "Welcome to Jurassic World."
"Thanks. I'm Mike Jones. And this is Alex Winchester and Sofia Johnson." Mike politely introduced.
"Owen Grady, Peyton's father. Tis Dr. Henry Wu, my friend Barry Sembène and Jason Archer. The little girl is my niece Valentina Grady." Owen introduced.
The group shook hands with the new employees when Valentina suddenly felt bad. The little girl collapsed and began shaking uncontrolably, causing Wu to open the glass wall. Peyton let out her Tranquilizer pistol and fired a dart at the little girl, causing her to cease trembling
"What happened?" Claire asked.
Before anyone answered, Peyton began searching her cousin's satchel and dropped the music box. The teenager remarked ten of the angels on it were golden while the eleventh was made of silver. Peyton pressed the silver angel and opened it, revealing another USB port.
"Stay, here. I'll go to control room." Peyton instructed everyone as she ran out of the building.
After driving to the control room, Peyton came to Lowery and put in on his office. He understood he had to visualize it. Lowery and Vivian put the video featuring Alma Grady on the main screen before playing the video. Alma explained everything they needed to know.
"Valentina darling, I know Project Nature is dangerous if it flows inside the body of a little girl. The side effect can lead to death. If anyone sees this, he or she has to find and inject the counter-agent named Project Mother, within 48 hours. It is stored in an underground lab, somewhere in the Paris catacombs. You can find it by inputing the tracker code, which is 129-358, in a GPS. I love you so much, I'm sorry, Valentina sweatheart."
With these informations, Peyton exited the control room, boarded the ACU helicopter and flew it towards the Masrani Corporation headquarters. There, she landed the helicopter and used Masrani's phone to phone the liaison officer with the US Air Force.
"Hello?" the officer said.
"Yes, this is Peyton Grady. Think you know me." Peyton told.
"I heard about a man named Owen Grady. Think you're his daughter." the man replied.
"Yes, that's it. Can you call Captain Watkins, Pennsylvania Air National Guard, please?" Peyton asked politely.
"On it." the officer told before Captain Watkins' voice was heard. "Hi, who's there?" he asked.
"It's Peyton. I'm gonna need your help, Donnie" Peyton explained.
"Of course. But what for?" Donnie Watkins asked.
"I'll tell you, but not now." Peyton answered politely.
"Right, I'll send a C-130J to your location." Donnie replied before ending the call.
With that, the teenager hung up the phone and drove a Masrani Corporation car, with an employee inside, to the airport.
