"So, I'd like to hear from both you what brings you to my office today?" Alexa looked at the woman sitting in front of her. She was an older woman, dark hair with some gray sprinkled throughout and she wore a black pant suit. She was currently holding a notebook and a pen while she looked at her and Baron through her black glasses.
"As a couple, we've been having a few problems communicating. Individually, I have been having some issues controlling my temper and she just has a mess of stuff she needs help sorting through."
The therapist, Mrs. Collins, wrote something down in her notebook before looking back up at the two of them, "We are going to spend about an hour and a half here today. A half hour with you together and then a half hour each alone. Let's start off with how you two got together."
Alexa shared the long and eventful story with Mrs. Collins, ensuring she did not leave out one detail.
"Now this may be something that you and I would discuss during our one-on-one session but it seems to me like maybe you didn't give yourself enough time between relationships. You ended a very long relationship because of infidelity and then you jumped right into another one two months later. You didn't make it easy for him so I see how it was easier for you to let those walls down but I still think things went too fast for the two of you."
Alexa nodded her head, "Sometimes I think that too." Alexa, Baron and Mrs. Collins continued their 30 minutes and once it was up, she asked Baron to step outside so she could have some time with Alexa.
"If I were to ask you right here in this moment to pick one what would your answer be?"
Alexa thought about it for a moment, bouncing the names of both of the men back and forth before answering, "I honestly don't know."
The therapist nodded and wrote something down, "I heard a lot about you and Baron in that session – what can you tell me about you and Dean? How was your relationship before the two of you were put onto different shows?"
"It was great," she started. "We were inseparable, we hung out with the same group of friends, we rarely ever fought. We really didn't have any problems."
"How is he different from Baron?"
"Dean is very strong willed and his love is fierce, he was so passionate about everything from the beginning of our relationship. If someone so much as looked at me the wrong way he was ready for a brawl. He didn't have a great childhood, he got bounced around through foster homes. He and I met back when we were both in developmental, it wasn't exactly a fairy tale start. He was the king of putting up walls but I helped him. Got him on the right track, stopped the alcohol abuse, got him to trainings on time, helped him in and out of the ring and then he Seth and Joe got called up and we went out to celebrate. He kissed me in the cab on the way home and that was the start of us."
"So, do you think that some of your love for him stems from you being the one to help him become a better person? That perhaps it's not really love but more so a need to ensure he remains on that path?"
Alexa took a moment to take in her question, Alexa had seen firsthand how fast the unstable Dean Ambrose came back out once she ended things with him. Perhaps what she was feeling was the guilt that she caused him to fall back into old habits. "I think that's a huge possibility, what if things between he and I coming to an end and me marrying someone else pushes him back into the old Dean?"
"There is no nice way to say this but," she paused. "That is entirely Dean's problem. You should not have to sacrifice your happiness to ensure he keeps himself in check. What are his thoughts on therapy?"
Alexa laughed to herself at the thought of Dean sitting in this office, "I don't think that is something the world will ever see."
"What if you asked him to do it for you?"
Alexa bit her lip in thought, "It would be worth a try."
The therapist jotted something on her paper before changing the subject, "Let's table that for a moment and talk about your feelings for him."
"I love him, he was everything to me. I always wonder where we would be now had things not turned out the way we did. Sometimes I want to let him back in just to get the answers to those questions. I stop myself because I can't let him back in all the way again; I can't let him destroy me the way he did before."
"And Baron?" she questioned. "What are your feelings for him?"
Alexa smiled, "I love him, so much. He helped me when I wasn't in a good place. He put me first but not in an overbearing way. He went out of his way to make me happy, there was never a time that I didn't have a smile on my face because of him." Alexa's smiled faltered, "Until one night after SmackDown when he completely turned into someone I had never seen before."
"What happened that night?" she questioned.
"He blamed his inability to move up in the company on me and told me I wasn't worth everything he'd been through leading up to that night."
"Were these words said out of frustration?"
Alexa nodded, "He had lost a push that was promised to him, but frustration or not there had to be some truth to those words."
The timer on the table next to the therapist went off just as she was about to ask Alexa another question. "We will continue this at our next session, you work on getting Dean in to talk to someone."
Alexa stood up and shook her hand, "I will, thank you so much. I'll send Baron in now."
Baron entered the room and took the seat he had occupied upon his arrival at the start of the couple's session.
"So, I got quite a bit of information from Alexa. The part I want to start out with is the night after SmackDown, the night things between the two of you reached its peak."
Baron nervously rubbed his hands up and down his thighs, "I said something pretty hurtful things that night."
"Did you mean those things?"
Baron nodded, "I did. I could have went about talking to her about them better, but I was frustrated. It had been months of drama and disappointment building up to it."
"And she wasn't worth any of it?"
Baron quickly shook his head no, "That was the only part of that night I didn't mean. She was worth it all. Everything Dean tried to get her back, all the back and forth with the company; I put up with it because no matter what I wanted her by my side."
Mrs. Collins nodded as she took notes on her paper, "How do you feel about her admitting she has feelings for Dean still?"
"Angry," he admitted. "He cheated on her, he put us both through months of drama out of jealously."
"Are you aware of the extensive history between the two of them?"
Baron nodded, "She told me, I know there's a lot there. They both helped each other through a lot."
"This question is going to be one you may not like but I'm going to ask it because I think it's something you need to come to terms with," she paused. "What if she chooses him?"
Baron took a moment to collect his thoughts, he never even thought that was a possibility. Sure, he thought there would be a possibility of the two of them hooking up, but he never truly believed she would ever jump back into a relationship with him. "I don't know, I've never really thought of her doing that. I think she'd be smarter than that."
"I sense that anger again," she noted. "It's not really about being smarter than anything, there are certain connections in this world that can't be broken, no matter what happens between two people. She may very well have that connection with you, but I think you have to let go of some of your insecurities before she's able to see that connection." Baron nodded before she continued, "How do you feel about the two of them hanging out?"
"Uncomfortable," he admitted. "They went out with a few friends; all I could think about the whole night it was the two of them were doing. The fact that she was also there with two of her closest friends didn't matter to me. I just envisioned the two of them together. And I was right, she admitted she kissed him and offered to sleep with him. He was the one that declined but also admitted that he loves her."
"Do you think that offer from her was her feelings for Dean or anger towards you?"
"Both," he said. "She told me she still loves him and even though we've talked and spent time together since that night at SmackDown I know there's resentment there."
Once again before she could respond the timer buzzed, "I want to spend more time with the two of you together at next weeks session. Alexa is also going to try to get Dean to come and see me on his own and with her. Eventually I'd like the three of you here, I have a feeling there's a lot of bottled up emotions that need to come out."
Baron nodded his head in agreement before shaking her hand and making his way out into the lobby where Alexa was waiting for him. The two of them made the silent walk to the car, getting in before Baron started it up and pulled out of the parking spot.
"So," Alexa broke the silence. "Do you want to go back or was one time enough?"
"I want to go back," he admitted as he pulled out onto the road. "Especially if it's eventually going to get all three of us in the same room together."
Alexa nodded, "That's if I can convince Dean to even go."
"I'm sure you can," he said. "He'll do anything for you."
