Another two weeks passed, along with Ashleigh's 18th birthday. She didn't ask for anything so her aunt, Fred, George and Charlie all got her some stuff that she'd need for the baby. She was getting closer and closer to her due date, which was October 20th. She was getting more and more nervous as time progressed quickly.
George still hadn't talked to his family and they didn't make the effort to talk him either. Charlie tried talking to them but they wouldn't hear any of it. Charlie told them he'd be there if they needed him and to just send him an owl as he had to return to work. George ended up staying most nights at Ashleigh's aunt's house with Ashleigh since she refused to go over to his flat anymore.
Tracie still couldn't believe that the Weasley's had acted the way they did. She thought they were the nicest people she had ever met, especially for the way they took Ashleigh in. She knew it wasn't her place to get involved, so she had to just bite her tongue. She thought Ashleigh was coping quite well, she guessed it was because George was there for her and didn't abandon her and their child.
Tracie called them down for dinner.
"Ohhh", Ashleigh mumbled, holding her stomach, smiling as she sat at the table.
"What is it?" George asked worried.
"The baby's kicking again", she smiled. George had yet to feel it, so she grabbed his hand and put it on the spot where there were a few kicks in a row. He had the biggest grin on his face. She also let Ethan and her aunt feel before they all ate their dinner.
Days turned into weeks and before they knew it, it was the end of September. Ethan had returned to Hogwarts, he was upset that he wouldn't be here when Ashleigh went into labour but they promised he would be home soon after and be able to meet his newest cousins.
Ashleigh found out at her last scan that she was actually having twins, genders unknown. They were excited but it meant they had to buy twice as much stuff. Fred managed to talk Ashleigh into moving back into their flat with them. He was still with Hermione, but it didn't bother him if she didn't come over. He'd go visit her if she wanted him too. He reasoned that they couldn't stay there and impose on her aunt when the babies came.
They reorganized George's room, so they had space to put the bassinets, change table and wardrobe for all the baby stuff.
"Looks good, doesn't it?" George asked when he was done.
"Yes, it does. Good job", she smiled and kissed him. They finished pretty late, so they got ready for bed and laid down. At this point, Ashleigh was quite uncomfortable and had to use the washroom often. She couldn't wait for the babies to come.
Ashleigh awoke in the middle of the night because she had to go to the washroom really bad. She looked at the clock; it read 2:00am. She walked into the bathroom, did her business but it didn't seem to relieve the pressure on her bladder she was feeling. She ignored it and went back to bed. She climbed under the covers and curled right into the sleeping form of George. She still felt the pressure, but it wasn't as bad when she laid on her side. She managed to fall back asleep for a little bit.
Ashleigh was woken by George two hours later. He shook her a little bit to wake her but she was out cold. He was finally able to get her up.
"Did you wet the bed?" He asked.
"I don't think so. I was up at 2:00 and went to the bathroom, why?"
"Because the bed is wet", he said pulling the blankets off. Ashleigh looked down at her pyjama pants and sure enough, they were wet.
"Damnit", she mumbled, getting up. As soon as she stood up, she felt an immense pain in her abdomen. She hunched over, grabbing her protruding belly, causing George to jump across the bed to steady her so she didn't fall.
"Are you okay?" He asked, worried. She was silent for a few minutes until the pain subsided.
"I don't think that's urine", she said. "I think my water broke", she added as she still gripped her stomach. George's face took a look of horror for a second but then calmly grabbed a bag, putting clothes for her and the babies in it, as well as diapers, blankets and pacifiers. He helped her get a dry pair of pyjama pants and her shoes on. George helped Ashleigh to the couch and sat her down so he could go wake Fred.
"Fred? Fred, wake up", George shook him, until he finally woke up.
"It's 4:00 in the morning, what do you want?" He grumbled.
"Ashleigh's water broke", he said. This had Fred up in a matter of seconds.
"I'm up. Did you pack a bag?" He asked.
"I'm not that daft", George said, as him and Fred walked back to the living room.
"You okay?" Fred asked as he saw Ashleigh hunched over in pain.
"It hurts", she told him. They helped her up and went to the fireplace, flooing to St. Mungos. Once there they checked her in and they took her to a room to get a physical examination.
"It looks like you're still pretty early, only 3 centimetres dilated", Healer Faris told her.
"But I can deliver normally with twins? I don't need a C-section or anything?" Ashleigh asked her.
"There's never a guarantee, even with one baby. But we have to wait to see how the progression goes. If it doesn't go very quickly we may have to do a C-section", she explained. Ashleigh nodded.
"My due date still isn't for almost three weeks though", Ashleigh mumbled.
"When you're pregnant with more than one baby, usually you go into labor a few weeks early. Do you not remember me telling you that before?"
"I forgot", Ashleigh said sheepishly
"It's okay. A lot of people do", Healer Faris smiled.
"Can Fred and George come in here with me?"
"Of course. I'll let them know what room you're in".
"Thank you", Ashleigh smiled, as another contraction hit.
A few minutes later, the twins came in and sat on each side of the bed.
"How you holding up?" George asked as he saw she was hunched over. He took this opportunity to rub her lower back, in hopes of relieving some of the pain.
"Just dandy", she said sarcastically. "But that helps a bit", she added. "Fred, can you go to my aunt's house and let her know please? I told her I'd ask you to go when I went into labour and she said she didn't care what time it was".
"Of course. I'll be back in a flash", Fred said, darting from the room.
"Pretty soon, we're gonna be parents", George smiled. "Just hang in there".
"I never told you before, but twins run in my dad's side of the family. One of his sister's has three sets of twins and his other sister has two sets. That's not saying we'll have more than one set, but it's a possibility", she laughed a bit.
"As long as it's not for a long time", George laughed with her.
"It'll be a long time, as long as you put full concentration into your magic when casting a contraception charm", Ashleigh said, staring at him.
"Oh, I will be", he told her. She nodded her head. Another contraction hit so he continued rubbing her back.
A little while later, Fred and Tracie walked through the door.
"I can't believe you're gonna be a mummy", Tracie smiled, hugging Ashleigh.
"Me either", Ashleigh mumbled.
"Don't worry, you're gonna do great. And you both will be wonderful parents. I know, because I've seen you both with Ethan, since before he started at Hogwarts", Tracie told them, hugging George as well. "I'm gonna go get a cup of coffee though", she said and left the room. Healer Faris came back in moments later.
"So let's see where you are now", Fred turned around and looked out the window. "It's been what, an hour or so. You're about 5 centimetres. So you're progressing quite nicely", she smiled, taking her gloves off. "I'll check on you in another hour or so, at 7:00", she told them as she left the room.
