Chapter 8
Amai hung up his phone.
He needs a plan now. The notion that a bullet like that existed was one thing, one that could be used against his family was another! He has to get it out of Ubet's hands before it is used. "God help them if they take aim at the six…" he muttered to himself.
At the same time though, his back was up.
Amai Mask has felt the sensation that he was being stalked, it has happened ever since he came into the city. There were people lingering oddly around him, glaring at him almost anticipating something. "I better leave…" he muttered to himself.
He turned to do just that, when he found himself surrounded. "Looks like they missed one…."
"The so called Hero Sweet Mask!"
"Quite faking it monster boy! You look human but you ain't!"
His old self wouldn't have allowed such ugly words to be spoken. Yet, at the same time, Amai knew the fight was not in his favor. These people were all working together, many took out their cellphones in anticipation of a strike back. But he remained calm and collected. "Gentlemen, I wish to pass you, so I can continue patrols. We don't have a lot of heroes at the moment…"
"You ain't no hero!"
"In your eyes, I'm not, that's fine, but to those who do depend on my strength to protect them, I will continue to do so, please, may I pass?" he asked gently again.
They refused. "Make us!"
Then the ground began to tremble!
Amai was even caught off guard as it shook, then there was a quake that knocked these men flat on their asses! Amai remained standing but was stunned to see Tempest in a fighting position!
Did he make the ground shake just now?
"If you don't mind gentlemen, we need to get back to our duties as heroes… you are welcome to follow us, but, don't expect to be saved if we are confronting a monster." He said in a gentle, yet warning tone!
Amai was quick to make his way pass the men who were slowly getting to their feet. Those who did stared at Tempest. "Wait, you're that freak sumo wrestler!... YOU'RE THE SON OF AMAI MASK!"
Tempest smirked. "I prefer the son of Garou if you don't mind. Also I would be careful around me. I am no longer a sumo wrestler… I am no longer bounded by the rules of engagement either… so… one more warning before I go…"
He lifted his right foot, Amai stepped back as he watched Tempest stamp his foot to the ground, causing powerful tremors to send the men back on their asses! The ground cracked, however, no serious damage was done.
It was rather impressive in his mind. Tempest has such control over his strength, to the point it's rather terrifying!
"You coming?" he asked as Tempest took his leave.
Amai nodded and joined him on patrols.
The two were silent.
Amai however couldn't help but look between Tempest and himself. How much his son has grown, how much stronger he was compared to him, as well… how more composed he is. Tempest didn't say anything either, nor did his eyes shift to Amai at any given point.
"I'm sorry," Amai blurred out. "I'm sorry you lost your title…"
Tempest remained silent on it. Perhaps the wound of that has yet to heal. He worked hard to become Yokozuna, only to have it be taken away after he turned in order to save Raiden and the other sumos from a monster.
"Being someone important is one thing, being what I want to is another. I got a chance to be what I wanted to be… I doubt you have ever had such an opportunity…"
He froze to his son's words. Such wisdom that came out his lips, and yet, it struck him to his core. "Tempest, what are you planning on doing next?"
He paused from the walk, almost appearing to consider the notion. "I want the head of the man who killed my family…" he said in a oddly calm tone.
Even Sweet himself froze to his declaration. "Tempest…"
"They killed my family, they took everything from me… why wouldn't I want this?" he asked. "Quite frankly, I am surprising myself that I haven't gone and hunted the bastard yet…"
"You are sounding more like me the more you speak."
This made him freeze in his steps. Tempest turned and glared at Amai who remained unfazed by his look. "What did you just say?"
Amai looked Tempest in the eyes. "You… are sounding a LOT more like ME the more you speak of vengeance… for those are the same thoughts I would have had, if I lost my self control."
It made him paused as the look on his face shifted from vengeful to stunned. Amai gently placed his hand on his shoulder. "Listen to me, it won't be worth it." Amai said gently. "The man you seek is not worth your time or energy. Yes, he has done terrible things. But don't sink to his level, don't go where I would have gone in such a rage!"
Silence befell them once more, until Amai saw the tears trickling down the cheek of Tempest. "Then what am I to do?" he whispered. "I couldn't help them, I couldn't protect my family and now…"
He didn't quite know how to go about comforting him. So, he went for it.
His arms wrapped around Tempest as best they could. He braced his son and tried to tell him it would be okay. "You have been through a lot, it's heartbreaking, and I know your pain. Your mother is still someone special to me, but please, be strong, and think more with your mother's heart than my desires."
He was stunned as Tempest wrapped his arms around him, bracing him a little closer for comfort. "Thanks…" he whispered. "But I still want this man to pay."
"He will, but it cannot be by your hands nor mine. Think of it, we will only make the problem greater."
As Tempest pulled away, he sighed aloud. "What do we do from here on? Look at the people, more and more of them are turning against you!"
"Let them," Amai said. "I'm use to this, I can handle it. But I will not tolerate them attacking you or your siblings." Amai said.
Tempest appeared stunned. "Why? We're not your kids, we never saw you like a father!" he protested.
Amai merely smiled. "I know, but it's about damn time I started acting like one."
