"I have been doing the same thing, finding distractions. When I married Ian, I had this hope that he was the last resort. I never dared to admit to myself what I truly felt. But, he wasn't my main distraction, me marrying him was only the last getaway," Maura stated with pure honesty. "But long before the marriage, can you remember the moments with Tommy and the short kiss with Frankie?" Maura continued. Jane just nodded, now confused as to where Maura was going with this. Her brothers were the last people she wanted to think about at this time. "Those silly crushes, the kisses, I realized that I just hadn't found the right Rizzoli." Those words Maura had said last night echoed over and over again in Jane's head until she finally fell to sleep that same night. It had been their first kiss, and it was a kiss to remember.

After the kiss, they hadn't really done much other than making out through the rest of the evening, and though there was room for more explicit activity, they wanted their first time together to be special. Maura, especially, didn't feel ready to give herself over to Jane. She wanted to, though, but ever since her toxic relationship with Ian, and the loss of their baby, she just couldn't. Jane respected that. God knows Jane had understood her, when Jane herself more than once had been the one on the receiving end of violence and brutality. After all, she had been stalked by a serial killer similar to Jack the Ripper; Hoyt. Thus, when Maura confessed about how she wasn't ready, there were no hard feelings. Yet, both of them agreed on one thing; they weren't going to limit themselves when it came to kisses, and, last night had definitely made up for the years of tension and withdrawal from each other.

Maura was the first one to wake up the next morning. It was the first night in a long time where she had actually felt completely safe. Even though Jane had spent the night countless of times, this time was different. Maura could never tire of the brunettes lips on her own, how they felt and how they so effortlessly matched hers. As cliche as it sounded, Maura thought to herself, she had never felt that way when kissing anyone else. She never truly believed in soulmates up until last night. Maura carefully lifted Jane's arm that was resting on her waist, trying not to wake Jane as she slowly turned around facing Jane. She then placed Jane's arm around her again, whilst her own arms found their place around the detective in a warm embrace. Taking in the soft scent of the woman opposite her, she lightly pressed her lips onto the other woman's, feeling her slowly start to wake as Jane reciprocated the kiss.

Even though they had agreed on no explicit activities yet, both kisses and touches were not off limits. Therefore, Maura proceeded to climb on top of Jane, her hands claiming Jane's face as her own territory. Jane's hands caressed Maura's waist, and they both were in a state of bliss as they stayed like that for a while. Just the two of them, their hands, and their lips. Their bubble wasn't everlasting, however, as Jane's phone started ringing interrupting their make-out session. Maura lifted herself off of the other woman, breathing heavily as Jane rolled over to grab her phone situated on the nightstand.

"Rizzoli," Jane answered, trying to catch her breath as well.

"You out running?" Maura could hear that Korsak was the one to have interfered their moment, and had to stop herself from almost letting a giggle escape her mouth. Jane just smirked her way before replying.

"No, I just ran up the stairs a bit too fast," Jane lied, causing Maura to let go of the giggle she had so desperately tried to hold in.

"I'm going to take a quick shower," Maura whispered, well, tried to whisper at Jane, starting to walk towards the bathroom connected to the master bedroom.

"Was that Maura? She's on leave now, right?" Korsak answered.

"Yeah, she's got some personal business to take care of- wait, you heard her? She's like on the other side of the room," Jane replied.

"I'm old, but I'm not that old," Korsak said, obviously confused and a tiny bit offended.

"No- that's not what I meant, and to answer your question yes, we have sleepovers all the time. Is there a case?" Jane said, starting to get impatient. She wasn't embarrassed that Korsak might have put two and two together, he might even be oblivious, but Jane couldn't help but feel like a teenager again; trying to hide what she'd been up to, even if there wasn't really anything to hide.

"Is it even normal for two grown women to have sleepovers in the same bed?" Jane could hear Frost say in the background, followed by a low snicker from Korsak. Jane just rolled her eyes at the comment, and she bet that Korsak could sense that she just did in fact roll her eyes, because he was pretty quick to clear his throat and continue the conversation he had with Jane.

"Anyways, yes- there's a case. Young caucasian male, approximately mid twenties, found beaten to death in a dumpster on Charles Street. We're already at the crime scene, and Dr. Pike insists that there's no need for an autopsy, so all we need is an extra set of eyes. Just, you know, to check if there's anything that we could've missed," Korsak finished.

"I'll be there in 30 minutes," Jane answered.

She was quick to hang up the phone before she went over to Maura's dresser, opening her own drawer where she kept probably half of her closet. How have we not gotten together up until now, Jane thought to herself as she just realised that she actually had a lot of her personal effects just laying around Maura's house. Her own drawer, toothbrush, and she was sure that someplace in the house, her Guns of the World Digest was laying around- even though Maura had insisted she had given it back to her. After she'd changed out of her PJ's and into her new outfit, she walked over to the bathroom door and knocked on it lightly. Jane couldn't hear the shower running, so she carefully opened the door just a smidge, to make sure she didn't walk in on Maura unexpectedly, before she spoke.

"Korsak want's me down at a crime scene on Charles Street, I won't be gone for that long," Jane said.

"You can come in," Maura assured her. So she did.

"What are you doing?" Jane said softly. What Jane saw when she approached Maura was nothing but sad, still so very wholesome at the same time. Maura was standing sideways in front of the long mirror next to the sink, her shirt lifted with one arm, the other delicately caressing her stomach.

"I'm ok," Maura replied, "With everyday passing by it's getting easier to process what happened with the baby that was supposed to be in here," She continued, looking over her shoulder at Jane, giving her a half smile. "I would've been three months pregnant next week. Can't help but wonder what I would've looked like, how I would feel, or, if the situation would've changed if I'd managed not to miscarry," she finished, letting her shirt cover her bare stomach again. Jane walked towards the blonde and embraced her from the back.

"It's not your fault, Maura, you are not responsible for what happened," Jane started, kissing Maura's cheek, receiving a smile in return. "And," she continued, "I don't believe the situation would've changed at all. Ian is the one in the wrong, not you. Once a bastard, always a bastard. He's a cowardly, heartless asshole that doesn't know what he lost," Jane said, turning Maura around to face her. "You," she finished, giving her a soft kiss. Maura couldn't help herself from smiling, looking teary-eyed up at the taller woman before cupping Jane's face in her hand, lovingly caressing her cheek with her thumb.

"What would I do without you?" Maura said in a whisper, standing up on her tippy toes to give her another kiss. God, she would never get tired of kissing those lips.

With Jane down at the crime scene, Maura was left alone in her Beacon Hill home with a warm cup of chamomile tea in her hands, and for the second time that day she found herself thinking about how complete and safe she felt. It was almost as if getting together with Jane had cast an invisible shield around her, as if she couldn't be hurt. And, if she did get hurt, she didn't have to sit alone at home thinking about how hurt she was. She had Jane now. She had Jane before as well, but it was different now. Instead of talking around her pain, she could talk about it more freely than she could have done before. She took a sip of tea and let one hand carry the weight of the cup, the other picking up her phone laying beside her. Maura noticed a notification pop up; a new email from her lawyer had arrived.

Hi,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am reaching out to let you know that the date of the trial has been set to Friday, October 12th, at 2 pm.

Today was October 4th, so that would be eight days from now, Maura thought to herself before continuing to read the email.

I have spoken with Mr. Faulkner's lawyer, and that was the only date that suited Faulkner, as he is travelling back to Africa the week after. I apologise if that causes any inconvenience on your behalf.

You have my number if you wish to talk or to schedule an appointment.

Best wishes,

Samuel Bright

Maura snickered as she read the part about that being the only day suitable for Ian. Of course he had to have all control over something that she wanted executed. What was he going back to Africa for? Maura thought, He just came back from there? Did he meet someone? Or was it simply a coverup for something else? Maura shook her head, as if it would help the rambling in her head go away. She then opened up her Reminders app to log in the trial, and then decided to shoot Jane a text message telling her that a date had been set. Not long after sending that text, she got a reply.

That's great, I'm gonna be home soon. Want me to pick up something for lunch? -J

Maura felt a blushing warmth spreading inside of her as she read the text. I'm gonna be home soon, Maura read that sentence over and over again. It wasn't that strange for Jane to call Maura's house home, but it had an entirely different meaning now, home. Maybe someday this house could be both their homes, they could live together and grow old. Maura would be the happiest woman on earth once she could walk away as a divorcé out of that court house.

Italian would be great. I can't wait for you to get home. -M

Maura put down her phone as soon as she sent the message, smiling to herself and couldn't help but feel giddy all in side. It was like being a teenager again- butterflies in your tummy and giggly because of a text. The more Maura thought about it, the more it dawned on her that it felt like being in love for the first time. Jane was indeed someone she truly loved. The sound of a door opening interrupted Maura's train of thought, and she turned around to see Angela walking in.

"Hey Maura," Angela spoke, going over to the stove to put the kettle on.

"The water in the kettle is already heated, come join me for a cup of tea," Maura responded.

Angela proceeded to pick out her favourite blackcurrant tea before she seated herself on the chair opposite the couch Maura was sat in.

"Well, this isn't the same Maura that I spoke to two days ago," Angela stated without hesitation, smirking. Maura could feel a blush making its way up to her neck, all she could do was look down and smile at her cup of tea. "So you two finally got together then," Angela announced in triumph, looking quite proud where she sat. And of course, she had every right to be proud. She was the one who had given them both the final push needed for them to finally realize they were in love.

"She makes me happy," Maura said quietly through her smile. Although she knew Jane wouldn't be magically fixing all of her problems and pain, it sure did help having someone to lean on. Someone who loved her.

"I'm happy she makes you happy, and I'm sure you make her happy too," Angela said softly as she rose up from her seat to give Maura a hug. "Where's Jane?" Angela said after they ended the hug.

"She's on her way home, Korsak called and said they had a body. She's on her way now, though," Maura responded. "I'm off duty this week, focusing on the trial,".

"It's good that you're taking some time off, I decided to let the new guy be in charge for a while. Just needed some time as well," Angela said.

"The new guy is on his own? Hasn't he been at the café for only a week?" Maura asked, worry across her face.

"See, this is one of many things Jane loves about you. You are caring. Right now, for instance, you're caring about the new guy at the café, who I by the way left Alexandra with," Angela said. Alexandra had started working at the café only a year after Angela took over for Stanley, the previous, grumpy, manager of Division One Café.

"Thank you, Angela. Jane cares too, you know. For these past few days she hasn't let me out of sight. She's been with me almost every second of the day, besides when she has to go to the station or if I have to meet with my lawyer," Maura said, reassuring Angela that her daughter was in fact just as caring.

"Yeah, I meant to ask about that. How's the whole, y'know, Ian situation?" Angela started, carefully, trying not to trigger the blissful peace Maura was in at the moment.

"As you know, Ian hasn't been very easy to cooperate with. Not that he has ever been cooperative in any way after we got married. Now that I think about it, he was so controlling. Almost as if I was a puppet, which he controlled with strings," Angela nodded understandingly as Maura spoke, "but now the court date has been set to eight days from today, October the 12th, apparently the only date Ian was available," Maura sighed, taking a breath before continuing, "I just, I feel like there's something going on. Something he's hiding, I don't know. There's just something that feels off about the whole situation," Maura finished, meeting Angelas eyes.

"Of course something feels off. You have had, what, three or four major life events happening at once. First, the miscarriage. Then, the whole sexuality thing and figuring out you wanted a divorce. And, last but not least, the best of all," Angela now took Maura's hands in hers, giving her the loving look only a mother could give, "you and Jane," She finished, smiling.

Maybe Angela was right, Maura thought to herself. She had gone through a lot of trauma recently, she was just imagining things.

≈R&I≈

Later that day, Maura found herself in the arms of one special Detective; Jane Rizzoli. Angela had left to the guest house, allowing them some privacy. They had eaten the lunch Jane had brought home earlier, and Jane was napping whilst Maura lay quietly in her arms watching the trees in her backyard start loosing their leaves, and birds flying to and from the bird-feeder she installed back in the summer, gingerly eating the seeds she had put out for them. She tightened her grip around Janes arm, feeling the brunette stir a bit before feeling warm lips kissing her neck sending shivers down Maura's spine. The kisses continued, moving up towards her earlobe, which Jane softly bit before going back to kissing. Maura couldn't help but to let out a small moan, making the other woman laugh.

"What?" Maura giggled back, trying to turn her head to see what Jane found so hysterical.

"So that's the sweet spot?" Jane questioned, after having calmed down a bit. Maura sat up, Jane disappointed that the warmth of her significant other disappeared. The blonde looked down at her, her smiling face turning into a more serious manner. "I didn't mean it as anything sexually, I'm sorry Maura," Jane said, hurriedly sitting up, concerned that she had in some way hurt her.

"I want you to be my girlfriend," Maura said with the most serious tone Jane had ever heard, "I didn't mean for that to come out the way it did," Maura quickly reassured Jane.

"God, you got me worried there for a hot second," Jane replied, running her hand through her dark curls.

"But I am serious, Jane, I do want you to be my girlfriend," Maura said, grabbing the hand Jane had previously run through her curls. She could now see the detective smiling at her, lightly squeezing her hand.

"Of course I wanna be your girlfriend, but only if you'll be mine," Jane said.

The next thing Jane felt was the blonde woman's hands cupping her face, and suddenly their lips were pressed against each others in a deep and loving kiss. Maura playfully bit Jane's lower lip before letting her tongue graze gently over the same spot, Jane accepted the invitation and let the kiss get deeper and deeper before she grabbed Maura's waist to pull her closer. Maura was now sat on Jane's lap, each leg wrapped around Jane's waist.

"I love you," Maura breathed.

"I love you, too," Jane said, placing a gentle kiss on Maura's lips.

"I'm sorry I'm making you wait," Maura said, letting her hands feel the soft touch of Jane's hair.

"Maura, don't worry. I don't wanna go any further knowing that you're not ready. And, to be honest, kissing you is a whole experience within itself," Jane said truthfully, getting a small giggle from the woman opposite her.

≈R&I≈

The following week went by fast, and suddenly Maura got a notification on her phone telling her that there was only two days until the trial. She and Jane were having lunch at the Division One Café when she got the notification. The last couple of days they had gone somewhere private, where they could be more lovey-dovey, as Jane called it. They didn't want to make a statement at work yet, so they hadn't told anyone that they were in a relationship. That way they didn't have to have an embarrassing talk with Cavanaugh, Jane's boss, or go through a meeting with the Human Resources department. They also wanted to be in their little bubble for a while, the honeymoon phase, if you will.

"I've prepared my statements as a witness for the trial," Jane said upon noticing the notification on Maura's phone, proceeding to take a bite out of her sandwich.

"I can't thank you enough for this, Jane," Maura answered, putting her phone on silent throughout the rest of their meal. "The only thing I'm worried about is evidence," she finished. Jane gave her a puzzled look.

"Evidence?" Jane questioned.

"Yes, I can't remember if I told you, but in this type of trial they will need evidence to prove that the misconduct actually happened," Maura answered quietly.

"That's not fair," Jane almost shouted, causing some of the other guests to turn around to see what was going on. "Wait, the phonecall you had with Ian! Y'know, I heard him through the phone, and we can check with security if we can get the footage," Jane finished, lowering her voice.

"I doubt that there's audio on that surveillance tape," Maura said, remembering the phonecall she had had with Ian. It was right before she bled so profusely that Jane thought she had died.

Maura was stood in her office talking on the phone with Ian. She had just told him about the miscarriage.

"So now it's just MY fault?" Maura shouted into her phone, where Ian was on the other end of the call shouting back. She heard some lingering footsteps outside of her office door, but was too angry to even care about that now. She had just miscarried, and Ian had claimed it was her fault.

"You probably didn't want this baby to happen, so you and your female stress projected onto the baby, which obviously made you lose it!" Ian shouted back on the other end, "You never wanted it, just admit it,"

"Excuse me? Are you saying I didn't want this? Believe me, I want this just as much as you do!" Maura yelled even louder now than the last time. Screw whoever was at the other side of the door, she couldn't calmly tell Ian off. He deserved it, and Maura truly hoped he was able to hear her pain through it all.

"No one wanted this baby as much as I-" was the last thing Maura heard Ian say before she smacked her phone down on the desk, her body shaking as the tears rolled down her face in a silent weep. Her hand went to her mouth to try and silence the sobs. Suddenly she heard a few knocks on the door. She tried calming herself by using her yoga breathing technique whilst wiping away her tears.

"Doors open," she said, turning away for a moment to further collect herself before smiling and turning around, seeing that Jane had walked in. That's when her smiled dropped, realising that Jane had probably heard every single thing Maura had said, rather yelled, into the phone. "You heard me on the phone, didn't you?" She questioned, though she knew the answer.

"I think the whole department heard you," Jane said, and Maura just groaned in response.

"What about pictures? Or the doorbell camera you have outside your front door? That must have caught up something, I mean, that has audio - correct?" Jane hopefully said, seeing that Maura shivered in response.

"Yes," Maura started, anxiously picking at her cuticles, "the doorbell camera might have caught something,".

"Maybe we could ask Ma if she's heard anything, she's the most nosy person I know of, so if the both of you were having a screaming match, she might've heard something," Jane stated, the detective in her coming through.

"Are you sure she wants to get involved in this? Cases like these can get quite messy, I don't want to cause any trouble," Maura nervously said, and Jane was about to answer when Angela butted in.

"I wanna do anything I can to help you get out of this, Maura. You're family. I've been through a divorce before, and it's not pretty, but I wanna support you and help you get away from that son of a bitch," Angela said, balling her hand into a fist.

I'm so sorry but I didn't even spell check this. It's 4:20 (blaze it, no but its actually 4:20 am) and I've sat down and written this non-stop since 11pm, so I just can't deal with it.
