A new challenger approaches! Am I the Knight or Dragon to Princess Hizashi!?
Shouta was on the verge of ripping his hair out as HE was here, again.
They'd been spending a lot more time outside ever since Midoriya suggested it since Hizashi needed stamina to be a mascot.
Shouta despises Midoriya as of late.
Why doesn't he leave?!
Shouta peered over the railing of the park bench to see hizashi playing tag with the Boy.
Mayeda Kou. Shouta hated that boy.
Kou was a rather frail looking kid, more on the feminine looking side with his big golden eyes and his nearly alabaster skin. He had naturally thick, shaggy, white hair that covered his left eye. The asymmetrical cut bob fit his constant wardrobe perfectly. Without fail the boy would wear a loose fit, high neck, long sleeved, knitted pullover jumper sweater. Paired with cargo shorts and a satchel bag with several pencils and a notebook in it. Typically converse were his shoe of choice and sometimes knee-high socks.
And that's all Shouta could tell you given the fact the other seemed a permanent mute but he knew he wasn't. Having seen him whisper things constantly to Hizashi.
Shouta still can't believe how easily he'd slipped past his radar. Thinking back to the day he'd seen the boy.
Hizashi sat next to him, prattling on and on about something. Shouta really wasn't paying attention as he was busy reading. Simply nodding every few statements or when Hizashi would pause to breath.
It'd been a few days since Hizashi had been banned from the organization and it seemed like he'd been injected with 100 cc of spastic energy. Hizashi talking more than ever before.
But shouta didn't mind, because everything was back to normal. Back on schedule and things made sense again.
The sun rises every day and sets in the evening.
Bakugo was back to being his old proud self. And Hizashi was all his again.
Now, Shouta knew Hizashi wasn't an object, he knew he was a living being...but it didn't mean he wasn't his.
Hizashi was HIS human being as Shouta was Hizashi's.
Shouta looked up as Hizashi was miming something when he felt like someone was staring at them.
He tilted his head to see a boy, later he'd find out his name was Kou, standing still, back ramrod straight. Seeing he'd caught Shouta's eyes he smiled, waved, and then walked away.
Little did I know he'd such be a nuisance.
"Shouta? Don't cha wanna play with Hizashi and Kou?" Uraraka asked as she just watched the boy watch the two like a disgruntled hawk.
No, I don't want to play with the person trying to replace me.
I simply shake my head, my frown deepening as Hizashi and Kou play space pirate cowboys tag and Kou whispers something to Hizashi.
Again with the whispering. What's he hiding, the thief? Probably bad mouthing me or my habits. Is it my hair? My clothes? No...Hizashi wouldn't stand for that...right?
Hizashi's loud laughter heard clearly despite the sizable distance between him and I.
Kou soon joins in, an ugly whistle-like laugh escaping his dumb mouth.
So annoying. Why doesn't he go hang out with other kids? Why'd he'd choose Hizashi!?
The only good thing is he's picked up by his dad at 4 right on the dot. Ending my nightmare.
I need to get rid of him.
Shouta glared at Kou the entire time until he disappeared with his father.
"HEY! Oh sorry." Hizashi sheepishly smiled as Shouta glared at him,"why'd yah not come overs and plays with mes and Kou!? This is the tenth times!?" Hizashi said panting, having been running for hours.
"I was tireds." Was all Shouta gave as a response as he, Hizashi, and Uraraka made their way home.
"Wha...but why? Ares you having nightmares? Because Kou tolds me abouts these... "
Shouta tuned out the rest of whatever Hizashi was saying, not interested nor willing to attempt and tolerate learning anything THAT boy said.
Shouta knew he had to act and he'd have to act fast to get rid of this white-haired nuisance.
As to protect Hizashi, of course. I don't want him getting hurt in this.
Because of course the ONLY reason Shouta was doing this was to save Hizashi from being hurt...or that's what he told himself.
Shouta stared at his plate as Hizashi was asked what he'd done today. His whole answer revolved around Kou.
Kou this, Kou that. God they're so connected its like Hizashi made some sort of code with the thief.
Shouta rolled his eyes as Hizashi explained how well Kou was at building sandcastles.
It wasn't until Hizashi's next question did his stomach nosedive.
"Can Kou come over and play?"
Say no. Saynosaynosayno!
Shouta chanted in his head as he clenched his fork tighter and tighter.
This was the only place Shouta was sure he'd have Hizashi's undivided attention. Kou coming in would ruin that.
"Oh course! He sounds like a delightful young man! From what you've told me, I'd be a shame not to!" Yagi smiled as he saw Hizashi finally make another genuine friend, especially after so many failed attempts and unfortunate outcomes.
However it was that moment he heard the clinking of a fork being dropped onto a plate. Looking over he saw Shouta leaving despite having a lot of food left on his plate.
Before he could even ask, Shouta said, "nos longer hungry. Goings tos bed."
The boy's voice had a tinge of anger in it that Yagi misunderstood for being about dinner.
Shouta sat up in bed looking over at hizashi, the other boy knocked out. Sleeping his butt in the air and drool dripping from his mouth.
Shouta didn't like nor tolerate a lot of people, especially not people like Hizashi.
He's loud.
He's spastic.
He didn't understand personal space.
He's more emotional than logical….so why do I care about him being a friend or not.
Shouta thought back to when he'd first met Hizashi, all the way back in the alley.
{flashback music}
Shouta woke as a chill shot through his body, feeling cold water underneath his butt.
He knew he hadn't peed the bed...nor did he go to sleep in an alley. Yet that was where he found himself.
What the…
Shouta poked his head out from the alleyway, not recognizing anything in the area.
How'd I get here? And where's home?
He was scared but knew he'd have to focus. Knowing that panicking would only result in failure and mistakes. That being one of the few lessons his father had decided to teach him.
Okays, I'ms really fars from homes, in weirds clothes ands all alo-
*Whimper*
Shouta blinked, knowing from years of feeding strays that wasn't an animal whimpering. No, that was another person.
Looking around he quickly found the source as said person began loudly breathing in and out in a failed attempt at calming down.
Shouta watched as whoever that was, not even a foot away from him, struggled to move as some weird contraption seemed secured to his neck.
That looks painful.
Which was soon confirmed as said person's whimpering resumed, a hint of pain buried in each pitiful whine.
Shouta watched as the other's breaths quickened, obviously starting to panic. And yet, made no move to help him. In fact he was already making his way away from the distressed person.
Seeing no reason as to why he'd need to help them, he was arranging what little he had to work with. Taking only the oversized shirt as everything else was way too heavy or wet to use. He promptly left and began his journey home. Already having made it at the end of the sidewalk, deciding to go left.
And he would've continued, not the least bothered, if the other hadn't let out a deafening screech. So loud Shouta heard car alarms going off in the distance and wild animals barking or meowing along with it.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
Shouta hunched over himself as it felt like his head was splitting and his ears were being murdered.
He felt like he needed to do something, that he needed to shut the other person up before they did or caused something stupid or irreversible to happen.
Covering his ears as tightly as he could he made his way back, surprised the other hadn't paused to take another breath yet.
He's already been screaming for a minute or so! Must be his quirk...which means...
Shouta fought the urge to do a little happy dance when the instant he activated his quirk and looked at the screecher they were muted.
"Be quiet. You're yelling hurts." Shouta said in a bored voice
Instead of doing the logical thing and taking time to calm down the other lay still like he was dead. Only to start hyperventilating again.
What a nuisance.
Realizing he wasn't working with likely the sharpest knife in the drawer he got closer. He kicked the other, harder than he should, still a little pissed at the pain the other had caused.
"Get up. I know you're not dead. Get up." another kick.
It was only the fifth hit that he woke up. Thankfully Shouta still had his quirk up because he'd have been blasted in the face otherwise.
"Stop yelling! It hurts" he powered his quirk down to see the blond start to tear up,
"It hurts! G-g-get its offffffffffffff!" The other scratched at the thing surrounding his neck, fighting with it and his jacket's sleeves.
Shouta said nothing, frowning at how much time the stranger was taking up. He slapped the hands away from the device and got down to inspect the complex metal neck brace. Having no clue where to even begin.
It took longer than he'd like, making the other boy whining last longer. Which only made Shouta's first impression of him worsen.
*CLACK!*
The last latch of the strange device unlocked, allowing the crying blond to get free.
"Theres." Shouta turned to leave when he felt a hand suddenly grab his.
Not one that enjoyed being touched, he violently yanked himself away, nearly tripping over the abundant amount of fabric the shirt he was wearing had.
"DON'T." He hissed at the other who looked like a mess. Red eyed, runny nosed and buried in an ocean of fabric. He looked like a blonde puppy that'd been kicked too many times to count sitting in his master's clothes.
"I'ms sorry! But...dos you knows what's goings on?" He fidgeted under Aizawa's stare.
Shouta just looked at him like he was crazy before responding with a blunt,"No."
And again attempted to leave.
"Waits! You can't just leaves!" The other struggled to his feet, fighting with his now oversized clothing.
"I don'ts know where to gos! And don'ts want to bes alone!" Hizashi fidgeted," cans…cans I go with you!?"
Because Shouta's back was still facing him, Hizashi didn't see his grimace, Sos loud.
Taking him along would make this trek much longer...but it'd be good to have another set of eyes? But his presence could get grating and it's more difficult to keep another person safe, Shouta glanced back at the boy, who was now trying to make his clothes less of a hassle with a lot of difficulty.
But...he'll die if I leave him here, alone...I just need to watch him. I don't have to interact with him…
With a deep sigh, Shouta made a "follow me" gesture before he began walking.
Hoping he'd find home and get away from the blond as fast as possible.
"Cans we stops! My feets hurt! Ands I'ms hungry!"
Shouta didn't respond making sure he was at least 10 steps ahead of them.
With how things had been going, he was getting more and more frustrated and the blond's whining was not helping.
In fact it was just making him feel worse than he already felt. His stomach wouldn't settle nor would his head stop throbbing. And his body felt both hot and freezing at random intervals. With the intervals getting longer and longer.
Couple that with the nuisance and he was ready to snap. He looked around realizing that still, nothing looked relatively similar to anything in either of their neighborhoods. They stopped on a park bench getting a few odd looks, given their attire and state they were in. yet no one came to help them.
Like expected. Gotta rely on yourself and only yourself to survive.
He turned to ask Hizashi something, realizing the other hadn't said a single thing for a good 10 minutes. Only to turn and see he wasn't there.
WHAT?! Where!? HOW?!
Shouta looked around frantically angry at himself for not realizing his travel partner had disappeared.
This is bad! What do i do!? How...okay think! Hopefully the kidnappers haven't gotten away yet!
With that single thought in mind, Shouta leapt off the bench and was about to bolt down the path to the street when he spotted bright blond hair coming his way.
"Hey! A nice lady gaves me lunch and moneys!" Hizashi yelled as he held a paper bag and five dollars above his head.
Oh thank god...wait. Why was I worried? It would've been beneficial if we'd split.
"Don'ts disappears without tellings me. I thought you'd gotten kidnaps!" Shouta's voice came out harsher than he'd meant.
Hizashi flinched back and deflated as he took a seat silently next to Shouta on the bench. Looking over, Shouta saw Hizashi kept staring at the ground while twiddling his thumbs.
"Goods job." Shouta said, realizing he might as well acknowledge the great service Hizashi had done for them. He heard a gasp and the bench start to rattle.
Hizashi had done a 180 and stared at him like he'd just offered to take him to DisneyLand. jumping up and down in his seat before reaching out to hug Shouta.
He quickly stopped as he saw the glare given to him by the smaller boy.
Shouta glared at the other boy as he attempted to apologize again. The other making sure not to cross the line drawn in the sand separating the two. The blonde knowing the other was furious with him.
I think my ears are still ringing.
They'd been making quite a bit of progress, well maybe less now as Shouta felt himself get exhausted faster and faster each day.
But the trip hadn't been unbearable. Hizashi kept them fed. Shouta didn't know why (or how) but Hizashi would leave and simply return with either money or food. Apparently people didn't like to see kids starve...Despite not raising a finger to help, always mouthing a pro will handle it.
However, right now Shouta couldn't stand the boy, his head pounding like a drum after he'd blasted him with his deafening voice.
The reason? a ladybug had landed on Hizashi's face.
The boy hadn't thought before he'd screamed bloody murder, murdering Shouta's eardrums. They still hurt despite said incident happening at dawn and It was now noon.
Shouta looked to his right when he felt something bop him in his side.
It was a pair of headphones, more specifically the ones Hizashi had been wearing. That as well as a juicebox and a sandwich.
"Sorrys…..these stopped mys ears from hurting when I screamed." The other boy blushed with embarrassment. The boy had to be a bit louder as he made sure he stayed on "his side" of the line.
Shouta took em with a shocked expression.
Shouta tried to think of anytime someone had gone out their way to help him. Drawing a blank for the most part.
He glanced over to see hizashi with his knees to his chest eating an apple and only an apple. Having given Shouta most of the food.
Shouta looked down and back at Hizashi several times before sighing. He got up and stepped over the line he'd drawn. Hunkering down next to Hizashi and handing the boy half the sandwich.
Unknowingly sitting closer to hizashi than he ever had in the past 6 days. Close enough he was in danger of brushing shoulders.
"Eat. We're walkings mores afters lunch." Shouta said as he saw the other stare at him dumbly.
It...wouldn't be logical to hold grudges. Hence why I'm doing this. No other reason .
Shouta was confused when he got a dazzling smile in return.
It's so hot.
Was the only thing Shouta could think as he felt himself moving yet his body remained completely still. Raising heavy eyelids he saw wet blond hair and fabric.
He's carrying me...why? That's not logical if he wants to survive and get back home. Why?
"Don't worry Shou! We're getting you help and you'll grow up to be the prettiest of us all."
Shouta would have laughed if his throat wasn't killing him at the moment.
Pretty...you're a strange one, Hizashi.
With the last bit of strength Shouta pressed himself tighter to his "ride", as the constant talking Hizashi did became the most soothing lullaby.
{flashback outro music}
Shouta got out of his bed and silently climbed into Hizashi's bed, hesitating a bit before grabbing the back of Hizashi's shirt.
"Zuhhh….wha..whats?" Hizashi said drowsily, still in the grasp of Sandman. He looked behind him to see Shouta staring at him wide eyed. The other boy had a scared look on his face, like he expected to be kicked out.
Hizashi moved so he was lying on his back and offered his arm. Knowing it'd allow Shouta to get a better grasp. He smiled before promptly returning to sleep as he felt Shouta latch onto his arm.
Shouta burrowed himself closer into Hizashi's side.
Wanting to savor this as he feared this wouldn't happen ever again very soon.
Shouta held out his hand waiting for Hizashi to hand him another brick, the tower they'd been building needing another support quickly.
~Ding dong~
"HE'S HERE!" Hizashi screamed, blasting the tower all over the room and making Shouta's ears ring.
Not even realizing what he'd done, Hizashi clapped his hands excitedly before bolting off to meet his guest.
Shouta's mood instantly soured, hearing the happiness in Hizashi's loud greeting despite being on the second floor.
Shouta sat on his bed, angrily reading his book as he saw no need nor no desire to greet the invader. His frown just deepened when he heard Hizashi pointing out the various rooms to Kou.
"And this is mys and Shou's room! And that's Shou! Shou meets Kou!"
Shouta didn't even twitch, instead simply turning the page. Going as far as to not even glance in the two's direction.
"Hmmmms...he's reallys shys. Don'ts worries! Wannas builds somethings! I GOTS LEGOS!"
The other boy must've nodded as Shouta heard the sound of legos being poured out onto the floor and the sounds of them shifting around.
Shouta prepared to hear Kou's annoying voice as Hizashi asked the occasional question. However, everytime Kou said nothing, in fact the only one heard talking throughout the whole conversation was Hizashi.
Is that why Hizashi likes him? I can be just as silent if he wants!
Shouta peeked at Kou over the top of his book, swearing to use this opportunity to gather information on Kou and hopefully, some way to take him out.
Shouta waited till Hizashi was out of the room before attempting to talk to Kou, talking to him from his bed.
"So...yous trying to take Hizashi from mes?"
He got no response instead the other kept working on his lego figure.
Ignoring me?
Shouta tried again.
Nothing.
He tried again.
Still nothing.
It was after the sixth try Shouta's patience stopped and he held the book high in the air. Poised to chuck the sizable book at the back of Kou's head.
Maybe this'll give him a stupid hint!
But before he could Hizashi walked back in to see the scene in progress.
Shouta quickly tried to make it look like he was yawning and simply stretching.
"Oh! If you're tireds Sho we can goes!"
Shouta would've responded but before he could even get the first syllable out Hizashi was pulling Kou out the room talking about playing outdoors.
Shouta could only watch, realizing if he didn't act fast...his greatest fear would be recognized.
Despite how hard Shouta tried he learned nothing about Kou despite his close observation. In fact he'd even attempted talking to him but got no response.
Shouta remembering how flippant he'd been with him made him clutch his cat plusie tighter..
It was finally over...or so Shouta thought.
As they started getting ready for bed. Hizashi was remarking about things he wants to do next playdate with Kou. unknowingly getting more and more on shouta's nerves till Shouta unintentionally let his true thoughts out
"I dont like Kou."
Hizashi stopped for a second processing the words, "Wha? Whys!?"
Shouta simply stared at his bed cover, resisting the deep urge to go on a rant about the white-haired boy and how almost everything he did pissed him off
"Did Kou do something?"
Yeah, stealing my things
Hizashi, seeing his friend still wasn't looking at him. So he got up and in his face, and firmly stated "Shouta, Kou is nice! He's no way like the others! He became my friend, and stayed my friend! He cares about others! that means he's good...right?" the last part came out meeker than he intended.
Doubt? Hmmmm.
"Peoples pretends all the times." Shouta avoided looking Hizashi in the eyes missing the distress his statement provided for his loud best buddy.
Hizashi looked a bit green. "Yes...but, but...He wouldn't…," Hizashi gulped before scaredly asking, "Shouta, you'd never lie to me...is Kou a meanie? I can'ts be friends with a meanie."
I can get rid of him. One word and it's back to how it should be.
Shouta went to answer but he couldn't seem to get his mouth to work, to confirm and be ridded of the nuisance. Something was holding him back.
Speak! Talk and Hizashi is yours.
But he couldn't as he looked Hizashi dead in the eye. In the emerald eyes was some sort of twinkle he hadn't seen before.
Kou put that there. He's about to swipe him from you! Sure, it's a lie but it doesn't hurt anyone important! Hizashi has you and that's all he needs! Get rid of the parasite, a dark voice said from deep in Shouta's brain.
Seeing that he couldn't speak, Shouta simply nodded.
Shouta was confused when the twinkle evaporated from Hizashi's eyes and he seemed to deflate. "Oh…." he gave a wobbly smile before heading to his bed. "Thanks for tellings mes...saved me again! I'm such a dummy h-h-head.
His pep now gone from his step. Shouta simply watched, mad that Kou had affected Hizashi so much.
As they both got into bed, Hizashi dully said Goodnight before burrowing into his sheets.
Shouta was going to respond when he felt his tummy hurt out of nowhere.
Hmmmm...dinner not sitting well.
Hizashi and Kou's relationship was noticeably different after his talk with Shouta.
Hizashi didn't really play with Kou, he more like tolerated him. The amount of conversation dropped substantially, with Hizashi sharing less stories or not being as detailed as he once was.
He'd not always walk with the boy only doing so occasionally. And soon the games they'd always play had shifted into an extremely rare activity.
And anytime the previous dynamic seemed to be reviving itself, he'd look over at Shouta.
Kou tried his best to bring the old Hizashi back, but everyday the blond was getting more and more distant.
Soon, it became rare to even see Kou at the park as he didn't have a reason to come everyday anymore. His appearances became rarer and rarer until he just stopped coming all together.
Shouta's tummy hurt even worse when this happened.
Since Hizashi had cheerleading practice Shouta went to the park all by himself where he saw a rare site.
It was Kou but he was sitting all by himself on one of the other park benches, not interacting with anyone.
Someone so sociable...strange. But not my problem if he wants to be alone.
Shouta resumed his reading until something enticed him to look again.
But nothing had changed, except maybe Kou's expression.
It was actually one Shouta had seen many times because he'd worn it. A look that was desperate for something yet knowing it'll never come. A look that showed the wearer had tasted/experienced heaven yet had/ is experiencing the fall.
Shouta suddenly doubled over as his stomach started killing him again except now his chest also felt abnormally tight. The ache so bad he curled up in his seat.
This drew Yagi, the person who had taken him, attention.
"Young Shouta, are you okay? Did you eat something bad? Are you tired? Is it too much out here?" he said, making sure not to touch him just to be safe.
"Nos. my tummy hurts but nots from food." Shouta hissed as his brain brought Kou's sad face back to his focus.
Yagi scratched his chin thinking what it could be that set this off out of nowhere. Then he remembered glancing over and seeing Shouta stare at something a bit to his left. Following it he saw Kou and instantly knew what may be the answer.
"Shouta...did you do something that might've hurt someone?"
He took the silence as a yes.
He took a seat, "Well, Shouta...you feel guilty. Guilty that you hurt or ARE hurting someone...you don't need to tell me who," he saw Shouta's shoulders relax at that, "but...I think you should tell the person you hurt sorry. It's the quickest way to fix whatever you are feeling now. But do you want to go home? Maybe get a snack and rest?"
Shouta nodded and made a motion asking to be picked up, getting one last look at Kou and the solution to his problem.
Hizashi tried to guess what it was Shouta wanted to show or tell him, that required him to follow him to their room. The boy hadn't even waited till he'd showered after his long cheerleading practice session.
He felt something was off though when he came and saw Shouta sitting on his bed, holding his cat plush extra tight.
"Whats is it, Shou? Whats you wanna tells me?" Hizashi smiled, thinking he was about to learn more about his best friend (in a way he kinda was).
"I lied."
There was a long stretch of silence, "Wha? Wh-"" Abouts Kou."
Shouta stared at Hizashi noting how that wiped the smile from Hizashi's face as he simply stared back at him. "Whats you means?"
"He was never means to mes. He's was perfectlys nice durings the whole times."
"Wha...why? Why...w-w-woulds yous do thats?"
Shouta looked away, really uncomfortable with how Hizashi stopped smiling.
"Because he was taking yous away from mes. You were mines and he just...cames out of nowheres. Takings all your times. Sharings so manys secrets. When yous were mine first. I wanteds him to gos play with the others and go away. So, I said he was mean to me because it made yous stop beings friends. Whichs I liked buts...," Shouta looked at the floor, "it mades my tummy hurt. Ands sos I'ms tellings you thes truth."
Shouta looked up to see Hizashi was still looking at him before taking a deep breath.
"Hizashi, I'm sorry."
Hizashi just stood there, blinking. Like his mind was trying to process what was going on but literally couldn't.
"Shouta...Kou's deaf."
Shouta did a double take before he thought back to all the redflags.
That's why he was not responding to me...it's because he couldn't hear me.
"He's not good with people and the kids talk too fast or low for him to understand….he can't...plays with the others."
Hizashi moved and sat on his bed, hunched over with head in his hands.
"Kids also don't likes him because he has quirk slip ups. A lot ofs em." Hizashi looked up to see Shouta confused so he quickly clarified, "White bellbird. He makes loud screeches. Really loud likes mine but he has a harder time tellings its happenings, thats why he whispers or says nothings. He cans speaks but he's scared."
Hizashi remained hunched over for a bit until his breathing became aggressive, like he was breathing through clenched teeth.
Hizashi couldn't take it and got up. Couldn't take the silence. The lies. The betrayal of his trust.
"I'm leavings." Hizashi said before stomping over to the door, making Shouta scramble off his bed to stop him.
As he was reaching for the door he felt Shouta attempt to grab his shirt to stop him from walking away.
However, the instant Shouta grabbed his sleeve, Hizashi violently yanked it from his grasp. Hizashi glared at him like he had at Fumiko and Sakura.
"NO! DON'TS TOUCH ME! Yous...stays out my beds too! Yous lost thats pri..pri...option! I….you reallys hurts mes, Shouta! Yous lied and lied and lied ands LIED! Why'd yous wait till Kou was gones to tells me!?" Hizashi's face was beet red as his leg thumped up and down.
To anyone watching from a far they'd think Hizashi was angry but Shouta knew better. He could see Hizashi's eyes.
They looked so...devastated. Shouta had crushed Hizashi better than any bully or jerk had ever. How? Well, Hizashi didn't trust the bullies not to hurt him. Hizashi didn't have faith that they'd never sabotage his efforts.
He'd trusted Shouta. Yet his first ever bestest best friend in the galaxy purposely manipulated him.
"He was sos happy...happys he had someones likes hims. He...sos exciteds! He actuallys wanted to bes your friends toos! buts...buts...YOUS! Yous made mes dump him! You...MEANIE! What else has beens a lie! Weres you goings to tells me Eri was means too!? I...I actuallys make another friend! A reals friend! And you...you…" Hizashi pulled at his shirt, and ruffled his hair aggressively.
"That..YOU can't...now I the meanie! I….I! I… *sniff*"
Like a faulty firecracker, Hizashi seemed to sputter before dying out, tears pouring down his face before he fell to his knees. Forehead to the rug as he cried, his cries so strong his body vibrated. Still the balled up boy choked out through tears and a runny nose.
"*hic* I'm suchs an...idiot! I trusted yous! I believeds you WERE mys friend! I reallys thoughts that! I'M SUCH ANS STUPID BABY!"
Shouta barely heard the sound of footsteps, as his ears were badly ringing. He looked up to see Midoriya with a scared and confused look on his face. Midoriya looked to him for answers but Shouta just walked out without a word. Leaving as he put on Hizashi's headphones, dampening the sound of his sobs...a bit. Shouta just felt numb. Numbed more than he'd ever had before. He'd been so wrapped up in himself and his possessiveness that he'd probably burnt the very bridge he'd built his home on.
Shouta remembered a tale. It was about a knight, a princess, and a dragon. The dragon had stolen the princess. The dragon selfishly shut her away from the world and others. Thinking she was his, that it was his right cause he'd gotten her first.
The dragon was so happy, but ONLY he was happy. Ignoring how the princess withered like a flower deprived of the sun. But in the end, justice is served. The dragon slain and the princess freed, given the happy ending she'd deserved.
Shouta sat on the stairs, staring blankly at the wall ahead of him "I was thes dragon all alongs."
Dinner was awkward.
Hizashi, with red eyes, staring at his dinner letting out the occasional sniffle, pushing the food on his plate around. His elbow on the table and his hair a mess from digging and pulling at it in frustration.
Shouta staring at him with absolute misery swirling in his eyes, only to look away whenever Hizashi would look at him. Hizashi's expression waffled constantly between a look of betrayal, to deep despair to intense anger.
"Um...so, did anything fun happen today Hizashi? Like learn anything at practice or-" Yagi attempted to bring a bit of normalcy by asking the nightly question but it only ended up making the atmosphere worse
"I learns that I'm thes biggest dummy head ands can'ts trusts peoples that say theys mys friend. *sniff*" He then simply stuffed his face as Shouta flinched at the direct dig at him.
"Oh…"
Silence took over again, none of the kids knowing what to say knowing this wasn't a spat over something small going off what Midoriya had told them. He'd stumbled down with bleeding ears but was able to get the answer from a sobbing Hizashi.
"I-""NO! NOS TALKING TOS ME! I DON'TS TALKS TO LIARS!"
Hizashi didn't even let Shouta begin to speak, way too hurt and way too emotional to attempt to control his quirk.
Everyone's plates and glasses either cracked or exploded as a result, which just made Hizashi even more frustrated. The boy viciously scratching his head, his fingers messing his hair up even more, it now resembling a bird's nest.
"SORRYS!" The remaining glasses and fragile objects broke as Hizashi attempted to apologize, only to have yet another slip. This just making him more frustrated. The boy shoving himself away from the table, nearly making the chair fall over, and quickly running up to his room, the door soon heard slamming behind him.
Shouta buried his head in his hands, done with dinner as the class wiped stuff up and carefully cleaned up the glass and other shards around them.
Yagi looked at Shouta, not only sorry for the boy for the situation he'd gotten himself into but, the fact he couldn't do anything to help. This was, like Bakugo, Shouta's responsibility. Only he could fix it.
Something that made him very worried.
It was three days later before they could take out anything not shatterproof or remove the heavy duty headphones Yaoyorozu made for everyone in the dorm. With every word out of Hizashi's mouth being quirk-infused as he failed to reign in his emotions.
But on the fourth day it really became apparent they had a problem. Everyone at UA had thought the two were Yin and Yang had been an exaggeration. It wasn't.
All of UA realized they'd never take the eccentric English teaching hero DJ constantly being a smiling storm of energy for granted ever again. Because they quickly found out Hizashi only had one setting when it came to emotions. Extreme.
If he was angry he'd be extremely angry. Not, sorta angry or a little peeved. No...he'd be outraged, infuriated, incensed. INCONSOLABLE
Hizashi's shirts were now constantly stretched out or wrinkled as instead of his typical tapping and running around, he'd just sit around stewing and pull at his shirt wearing it out. Hizashi also now spent most of the day outside, usually in time out, sitting and ripping up the grass. Violently pulling up chunks as he seethed. However, UA's hero course found this better than what he'd done the first few days since the two had split. Which was destroying things.
The first example came when Hizashi and Shouta were sitting in the office, although on opposite sides of the room. Hizashi went as far as to sit with his back to Shouta. He was simply drawing himself as a space pirate, super proud how it came out. He smiled as he saw how well he'd done on the ship before seeing something that made his heart hurt.
He instinctively drew Shouta next to him, with cat ears and tail, just like the other boy liked.
He frowned, remembering the good times they'd shared. Until the memory of him explaining what he'd done, his lying, sneaked its way into his brain. His heart began pumping faster as he bit his lip.
With a tiny growl he violently ripped up his picture into a ton of pieces and snapped every pencil he had. The furocity he did it with made the teachers stare at him worriedly. Their worry rose as he spent the rest of the time lying on his side curled up a bit.
Another incident happened with the girls when Hizashi had spontaneously gotten so angry one Girls' Night he hurled his action figure at the wall. So hard the thing broke, several pieces breaking off. Hizashi left with a whimpered sorry after that.
Heck some days Hizashi would have to wear scratch mittens as he'd get so frustrated he'd aggressively pull and tug his hair to the point it seemed like he wanted to rip it all off.
Shouta was equally as bad except his way of expressing it the complete opposite.
He was blanker than ever before. Sometimes the kids would find him just sitting and staring off into space or writing aggressively in a notebook only to shake his head and cross out his work. His sleep schedule suffered too.
The most recent problem being sleepwalking. At first it was rare but now, it didn't matter whether Shouta went to bed the previous night, they'd find him somewhere completely different in the morning. The last place he'd been found was curled up like a ball on the stove. Because of these restless nights 1A saw him revert to his adult tendencies, finding him balled up in his yellow sleeping bag for big chunks of the day.
It'd been 2 weeks already. And the tension had not improved one bit. But what could they do, this wasn't their battle, it was Shouta's.
Nowadays, Hizashi mostly just sat and watched TV, refusing to go to the park or play any of the former games he played. In fact the first time they attempted to take him to the park the boy had thrown the biggest fit.
Hizashi literally emitted a high pitch whine till he was allowed to just remain home.
Hence why, Shouta was all alone at the park.
He sat on the park bench notebook in hand, scraping his latest speech on how to explain to Hizashi he wasn't a meanie. That he was super mega sorry.
No, that doesn't work either!
He'd spent already 2 weeks trying and coming up with nothing.
How'd I screw up my only friendship! Stupid stupid stupid!
Shouta put his head in his hands as he sniffled. Every answer he'd come up with always had the same end result. Hizashi still hating him.
I just...didn't want to be left alone.
So lost in his misery he didn't hear the person coming up to him till he was being tapped on the shoulder.
Looking up he saw a tissue and the last person he'd expected, nor wanted to see.
Mayeda Kou.
The boy smiled when he finally took it, and promptly sat next to him, giving him a wide berth.
"You don't want tos sits there" Shouta kept staring at the page in his lap. Titled, "speech #29," drawing nothing but a huge blank.
Skritch scratch
He hears the sound of pencil on paper before getting tapped again on the shoulder.
*So, Hizashi still upset?*
"Yes. Buts at mes. You're innocents" Shouta didn't look at Kou, but realized he deserved an explanation as to what'd caused the change in Hizashi. " I lied ands saids you weres mean. So Hizashi would stops spending all his times with yous. And he dids...buts I tolds him and now he hates me. I'ms sorry…"
Shouta waited for the attack, the ear shattering yell that he rightfully deserved after the thing he'd done.
Skritch scratch Skritch scratch Skritch scratch Skritch scratch
*I knew that. The glaring gave me a clue. Buts I'm not innocent.*
Shouta gave him a confused look, before Kou flipped the page to explain
*I kindas made sures we did things you didn't like so much. So Hizashi would hang with me. I overstepped.*
Shouta didn't know what to say to that so the two just sat in silence.
Skritch scratch Skritch
*I do wants to be your friend though. I like you too.*
"Reallys? Whys?"
*You are smarts. Ands you loves cats. I have the 2nd book to 100s facts about cats. Its got 200 facts and lots of other stuff.*
Aizawa's eyes sparkled before he shook his head, "Waits YOU wants to bes not only Hizashi's friend but alsos mines?"
Kou nodded and smiled
"Wells thats goods, at leasts ones of yous don't hate mes."
Kou shook his head before writing, *No, he still likes you. Hizashi just doesn't learn by talking. Action is the only answer*
"Wells nows Im's even mores screwed. I haves no ideas what to dos." Shouta put his head in his hands as Kou wrote something else.
That must be a hassle. No wonders Hizashi and he used…
Shouta's eyes widened as he realized what he could do to prove he truly meant he was sorry.
"Kou...can yous teach mes somethings?"
Hizashi sat and watched Spongebob, today feeling worse than any other day. His mood wasn't being lightened and the episode of Spongebob just seemed to have made him feel worse.
The way had just sold Spongebob off, gambling him away in a game of cards felt like a punch to the stomach.
His trust must've been hurt there…havings trusteds him and everything. Selfish meanie
Although it wasn't until and Spongebob started to sing did he really feel miserable.
[Verse 1: SpongeBob & Mr. Krabs]
A stove is a stove
No matter where you go
A patty, is a patty
That's what I say!
[Verse 2: SpongeBob & Mr. Krabs]
A grill is a grill
This is surely so
And fries should be fries
Either way
[Verse 3: SpongeBob & Mr. Krabs]
But this grill is not a home!
This is not the stove I know!
I would trade it all away
If you'd come back to stay!
[Chorus: SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, & Both]
This kitchen's not the same
Without you!
It's just a greasy spoon!
Just a greasy spoon!
Without you….
Hizashi didn't even realize he had tears running down his face till he tasted something salty out of nowhere.
Hizashi was so confused. Despite how hard he tried he couldn't seem to be anything besides angry or sad. Fluctuating between the two as he went through his days. He hated it and wanted it to just stop
He knew it was because of Shouta. Hizashi missed him one second only to be mad the next. His heart wrestled with what he'd done. How badly Shouta had hurt him but at the same time how empty he felt without him simply being there. Missing how Shouta would simply sit next to him and read a book, simply happy he was there regardless if he was playing with him or not.
That's it. I need to ask them. Even if it worries them...they always have the answer!
Hizashi didn't know what to do so he went to the absolute wisest people he knew, his moms.
Hizashi retreated to his room, knowing Shouta was still at the park and it'd be empty.

His mom, Hikaru, was instantly concerned as The instant she saw him she knew something was wrong. She quickly got Mitsuko.
"What's wrong, sweetie?"
"Is got a problems...with Shouta." Hizashi frowned and seemed to spit the other boy's name out with anger.
"Oh! Is he okay!? What happened?" Mitsuko signed frantically, wondering if she and her wife were going to have a spontaneous road trip.
"Yes. the jerk is fines."
That shocked the two women, especially given all the previous video chats all Hizashi had talked about was he and Shouta's adventure and how cool the other was.
"Honey, what happened? Why would you say such a thing?"
It took a bit but eventually the two women learned of their son's problem and everything surrounding it.
"Nows, I'ms angry and sad! I hate him but miss him. But whys would Is miss a meanie!?" Hizashi wrenched his shirt to and fro angry again.
"…...Honey, have you looked at it from Shouta's point of view?" Hikaru said after her baby boy had calmed down.
"Wha? Okay, he hates Kou and didn't like me hanging with thinks I'ms a thing ands not a persons. He's a sad, lying meanie poopoo pants!"
"Hizashi, you told me Shouta hasn't got many friends?"
"Yeahs,...sos." Hizashi said looking at his nails
"Hizashi, I KNOW Shouta wasn't trying to be mean. I think Shouta was scared."
"Scared? Whys? Kou isn't mean! Sho's mean!" Hizashi resisted chucking the phone away from him.
"Honey, kids like shouta tend to not...how do I explain this? Okay, imagine there's a fox and a rabbit." Hikaru said after thinking for a bit.
"Can it bes a robot dinosaur ands a doggy."
"Sure, theres a doggy and a robot dinosaur." Hikaru smiled,"The robot and doggy hang out all the time. No matter what they're together."
"Okays."
"Now, one day the dinosaur meets another dinosaur, and they have so much more in common than he did with the dog. And say...without the robot realizing, he starts to hang with the other Robot more. Playing things the dog doesn't like...can't handle. How do you think the dog feels?"
"Angrys...cause they aren'ts playings with him. sad...jealous..."
"Thats probably what Shouta felt like, Zashi. Shouta wasn't trying to be mean honey, he just didn't want to "lose" you as a friend."
"But I wouldn'ts dos that!"
"Yes, but Darling, people do stupid things when scared, angry, or upset. Shouta saw you with someone else, and never having had many friends and bad with people, did what he did.
"But thats dumbs! I remembers...oh"
Hizashi stopped and remembered the look Shouta had on his face the night he'd crawled in his bed. his sleepy eyes at the time hadn't caught it but he remembered now, the scared look shouta had. Remembered how tightly Shouta clutched his arm despite being uneasy about physical contact.
*sniffle* I….I'ms sos dumbs. A big dummy heads"
"No honey, you just wear your heart on your sleeve. Being the sweet expressive boy we love so so very much. Everyone makes mistakes, no one's perfect. That's why we have the word, sorry.
"W-w-whats *sniffle* I says t-t-t-to hims? I've beens sos means even thoughts h-h-he saids sorr-y. I said so many bad bad things. Ands ands been a-a-avoidings hims fors so longs!" Hizashi struggled to say as he started to cry. "Ands n-n-nows we don't *hic* t-t-talks! Ands I-"
"Shhh it's okay...It's okay baby. Listen, I'm gonna tell you the three of the strongest words. That'll easily fix it but you gotta stop crying okay?
"*sniffle* O-o-okays"
Hizashi whipped his nose on his sleeve
"Okay here's what you do…"
Hizashi fidgeted from his seat on the steps, waiting for Yagi and Shouta to return. However, despite having been bracing himself for 30 minutes he got scared when Shouta stood directly in front of him.
I can't mess this up! I can't lose hims because I was stupid.
"Shouta I-" Hizashi stopped talking as Shouta held his hand up.
Shouta quickly looked at his notebook before looking at Hizashi with a determined look.
I'm...sorry. I was dumb. But really want to make penguins. Shouta signed slowly, having to glance at the notebook several times.
"Make penguins?" Hizashi looked at him confused.
"Penguins? I was tryings to says sorrys for being such a bads friend. I'm nots real goods but...I'll learn."
Hizashi just blinked at him, making Shouta start to ramble.
"Because I needs to if I wanna hangs with Kou. He taught me that, must've copieds it wrongs. We talked...he's not mads. At eithers of us. Still wants to be…"
Shouta stopped as he saw Hizashi was crying. Shouta's stomach sank, thinking he'd messed up and destroyed his last chance.
Hizashi got up and carefully put the Hage headphones around Shouta's neck over his ears. Shouta was now a bit terrified as Hizashi held them firmly in place.
"YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Every glass object or surface within a 50 ft. radius shattered. The sound of cars wailing, people freaking out and glass raining down went unnoticed to the very excited Hizashi and shocked Shouta.
"YEAH! KOU IS GONNA HAVE TWO FRIENDS!" Hizashi turned around with his arms held open wide to hug Shouta before remembering his policy on physical contact.
Shouta let out an exasperated sigh before holding his arms out. He rolled his eyes at the stupefied look Hizashi had on his face and the fact the boy pinched himself.
The next second Shouta found himself squished to Hizashi's chest, the boy swung the two of them in a circle. Happy tears as he repeated, "I forgive you" and all the ideas he had that the three of them could do.
Who says dragons can't learn lessons.
Shouta, a tad flustered, watched Yagi pinned his latest drawings to the fridge. After seeing it, the man had asked to put it up saying it was so great.
"There! Now everyone will see it, Shouta! Do you like it?"
Before Shouta could answer he was cut off by Hizashi's frantic distress call.
"SHO! Comes on, we need more hands!" Hizashi called from the living room. From his and Yagi's spot in the kitchen he could see Kou struggling to hold the large tower they'd built steady.
With a Totoro-like smile Shouta looked to Yagi as if asking permission to go and join. The retired pro internally laughed and shooed the boy away, happy to see him so excited.
Only for a bitter sweet smile to take over as he looked at the colored drawing again.
Yagi had to say, it was quite a masterpiece, remembering the diligence Shouta had put into it. The whole thing taking two days, Shouta wanted it to be perfect.
It was a picture of a pirate ship in space, the boat soaring along the stars, under attack. A bunch of purple enemy's of various shapes littered everywhere, all sporting angry eyes and some sort of weapon in their hands. On top the carefully drawn (semi-traced) ship was a blond haired figure with a cape, guitar and sunglasses. A speech bubble with the word, Yeah, coming from him.
Next to him with a sword at the ready was a black haired figure with cat ears and a tail. A scarf, the character's neck drawn over it, fit his ninja like attire.
And right next to the cat ninja, with their bow drawn and ready to fight was a figure with white hair and white bird wings attached to its back.
The three side by side, prepared to fight.
"Heheh…when did I become so selfish?"
Yagi knew it was wrong. Unfair and maybe even cruel but as he looked at the drawing and the three kids remaking their failed tower, smiles on all their faces, all he could think is…
I wish this'd last forever.
Notes:
Kou was gonna be named Shou but I felt like that'd confuse people.
Shou- First name means: "To fly; to soar."
Kou-First name means: "Happiness, peace
What's a white Bellbird? This is it /dvK-DujvpSY
Kou makes that noise but a lot louder. Can't reach Hizashi's range in decimals but...really loud.
Kou's quirk, well I was randomly going through and thought something involving sound. Then I thought, loud boi meet loud boi.
Originally I was going to make Kou's father deaf and he was hanging with hizashi, learning to talk to him. But I wanted something more than that. Hence this.
Kou has Post Lingual Deafness- age 6, just developed his quirk and blasted his eardrums repeatedly. Hence can speak just didn't/wont generally because cant tell when blasting that sound
I am in no way trying to offend those that are deaf, nor misrepresent those of you in any way shape or form and if am, tell me. I'd hate to alienate or offend anyone.
Hizashi's crying is based on when I'd lost my best friend (stuffed animal rabbit) Sally. Took her everywhere, slept with her, ate dinner with her. (We found her luckily)
just too sad to move my legs but wanted the world to go away.
I also used to just claw and pull my hair as a child and had to wear mittens and my pjs backwards so I wouldn't claw myself. (bipolar babies are hard)
I was gonna divide this into a two parter but just couldn't do that to you guys.
I literally just realized I gave them a white haired friend. That was not intentional at all too, i swear
Semester is over, although I have a few more projects, but will be able to work on my stories more. I literally have a bit more to finish the What-if story chapter and already planning/have an idea for the next one.
And don't hesitate to comment really helps an author even if its negative, wanna improve if need to. (also motivates)
