RECAP: Jade and Sirius discover a horrifying truth. The mysterious sixth year reveals her inner thoughts and beliefs.
A/N: It's been a long time eh? I got bored and rediscovered this, so here I am writing it again.
Chapter 7
Back
(Sirius)
If anyone knew Sirius Black, then they knew that he hated his family's ideals. The pureblood and muggle born nonsense was insanely stupid to him. Why hate someone for how they were born? It didn't make any sense.
Of course some people only believed that because they were taught to, like his brother, Regulus. But still, Sirius couldn't excuse what his family believed, even for his brother.
When he moved out of his house and moved in with the Potters, Sirius felt it could be a new start. A chance to have a family who loved him unconditionally and didn't hold ridiculous prejudices.
With the rise of Voldemort, however, his family and others alike grew more and more restless. The time for pureblood reign was close, and Voldemort was ensuring that.
Sirius hated it.
As he ran through the corridors of Hogwarts, he thought about this. What could possibly enact this sort of thing? Sirius thought of any of the people who could be behind this. Of course his mind first went towards people apart of his family, Narcissa? Bellatrix?
But that wouldn't make any sense. Neither of them were the type to act out and attack a muggleborn so out in the open like this. Not unless someone told them to. But his family was strict on following The Dark Lord and his orders, and this didn't sound like something his family would do. Not yet at least.
Sirius kept running, and running, until he found someone who could help. Preferably Dumbledore or McGonagall. But who he found instead was not someone he would expect.
"Evans!" Sirius stopped in his tracks.
Lily looked at Sirius inquisitively, "What are you doing?"
Sirius thought for a moment, he pondered whether he should tell Lily what he and Jade had seen, or to keep going for a staff member.
"I'm looking for a Professor," He decided.
"Well none of them are going to like that you're out here after hours," Lily pressed on, "So what do you need a Professor for? I thought you were planning some sort of prank."
"You're out of bed too y'know. But whatever, I really need to find someone, Jade and I found a girl in the tower- we need help."
"A girl? What happened?" Lily felt her heart race.
"She- She's unconscious, someone attacked her, Jade is with her now but I need to find a Professor." Sirius' mind started racing again, saying what he saw out loud brought back his feeling of panic.
"You said she was in the Astronomy tower?"
"Yes! Yes, she's with Jade, I have to go- I've gotta go-"
"Okay! I'll go up to the tower, go to the staff room there might be someone there, if not go to Dumbledore's office and see if you can get in." Lily started running, "Hurry!" She yelled at Sirius
who was still standing there.
"Right!" He ran off too.
(Lily)
Lily ran towards the Astronomy tower, her mind racing as well.
Jade must be terrified, Lily would be too if she had found a girl unconscious in the tower.
As Lily made her way up the steps that lead to the tower, she could hear the silence of the night. It felt almost as if she was running up to watch the stars, not to help a girl who was attacked.
Once the stairs finally leveled out, she walked through the doors that led to the platform, and saw Jade standing with another girl.
"Jade! What happened?" She looked at the pale girl and saw her shaking, "Are you okay?"
"Lily? How did you know we were up here? Sirius went to find-" Jade started.
"Yeah, Sirius found me, he told me something had happened."
"Did he go to find a professor?" The girl asked.
"Yes, he's looking right now, do you remember what happened?"
"No… I was walking to my common room, alone, and then everything went black and I wound up here." She looked around the room with fear, "Did this happen to anyone else?"
"Not that I know of..." Lily replied.
She looked around the room, finally seeing the writing on the wall. Only someone at the school could have done this. No one else would be able to get in, take a girl, and make it up to the astronomy tower without being questioned. Especially since apparition was off the table.
"Lily?" Jade touched Lily's arm to get her attention.
Lily looked at Jade and the girl and a look of seriousness fell upon her face.
"We should-"
A loud crash sounded from the doorway, all three girls looked over to see Sirius throw the doors open with Professor McGonagall in tow.
"Professor!" Jade exclaimed.
McGonagall looked tired. In her emerald green night robes and her black hair braided back, she glanced around the room and at the three girls.
"What happened here?" She questioned.
"We- Sirius and I, found Annalise here. She was unconscious and floating over the edge of the tower-" She pointed to the ledge, "over there."
McGonagall walked towards Annalise and looked her up and down, "Do you remember how you got here?"
"No Professor, I woke up here, I don't know how I got here." Annalise said.
"Go to the hospital wing, have Madam Pomfrey check up on you." McGonagall stated, "Quickly!"
Annalise jumped and started towards the stairs, stopping to look back at everyone before leaving. McGonagall turned towards Sirius and Jade and looked at them inquisitively, "What were you two doing up here in the first place?"
"Oh- er, we were going to look at the stars." Sirius lied, Jade gave him a withering look. "Professor." He added after receiving a glare from McGonagall.
"After hours?"
"Yes Professor." Sirius answered.
"Hm." McGonagall then looked at Lily, "And you?"
"I was er- I was with Potter, then I was on my way to the common room. Sirius saw me and told me what happened."
McGonagall nodded and walked over to the writing on the wall.
"KEEP HOGWARTS PURE, CLEAN OUT THE MUDBLOODS"
"Come with me." She said looking at Jade and Sirius, "We must see Dumbledore."
"What about Annalise?" Lily asked.
"She will come after she's seen Madam Pomfrey, it seems you two have more information about what you saw than she did. Ms. Evans, you return to your common room, and do not speak about this with anyone." She glared at Lily, "Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes Ma'am." Lily nodded and hurried off to the Gryffindor common room.
Jade, Sirius and McGonagall started towards Dumbledore's office, unsure of what the next steps were to be.
(James)
After his encounter with Lily, James decided that his mood was ruined, and his only option was to go to bed.
The whole night had been exhausting, and he couldn't bother to stay awake for it any longer.
He took a secret passageway, shown to him by the Marauders map which he kept handy tonight, just in case.
James never knew of the more serious events of tonight, but he would find out in the morning, after speaking to Sirius about his whereabouts.
Sirius relayed everything that he could, of course, it was Professor Dumbledore's, and McGonagall's advice that he not tell anyone what he had seen. He couldn't very well lie to his best mate that way though.
The two boys sat together eating breakfast in the Great Hall. Sirius looked exhausted, but still managed to tell his whole story to James without missing a beat.
"So what did Dumbledore tell you guys to do?" James inquired, he had already gotten through his eggs and bacon, starting on his pancakes.
"Well first, he told us not to tell anyone, second he told us that we need to be careful." Sirius replied, with a mouthful of scrambled eggs to back him up.
"Be careful of what?"
"More attacks. I mean it's clear isnt it? This was an attack on Muggleborns, probably You Know Who's doing." Sirius went to a whisper and leaned into James, "Dumbledore thinks there could be more."
James went to a whisper as well, "If Dumbledore thinks there could be more attacks, why is he keeping the school open? What if someone gets seriously hurt."
"Well mate, because Dumbledore doesn't think You Know Who is out to kill anyone, he thinks this was just a warning." Sirius straightened back up, "That girl could've been killed, but she wasn't. That must mean something."
"Why're you so calm about this?"
"I dunno mate, I'm considered a blood traitor, just for consorting with Muggleborns and I guess you are too, but this is much bigger than both of us. I reckon if we figure out who managed that attack last night, we can figure out what their plan is."
"And that doesn't freak you out, even a little bit?"
"Oh, it does, but I'm good at hiding it, the chaos is where I feel most at home, mate."
Sirius grinned at James and went on eating. James knew the truth however, he knew Sirius was just putting on a face of bravery for Jade and for everyone else.
He glanced at Sirius and saw his mind wandering off, probably about last night's events. James thought about it too, but couldn't think for much longer when a girl sat down next to him.
"Hello." She smiled sweetly at James.
"Hello?" James replied looking her up and down.
"I'm Marianne." She reached for a piece of toast, "Fifth year."
"Er- James Potter."
"Yes, I know, well everyone knows." She laughed cutely. Sirius gave James a look and listened to their conversation intently.
"Oh, well is there something you needed?" James went on.
"You." She stated quite bluntly.
"Me?"
"Yes, I'm asking if you would go out with me sometime."
"Me?" James said once again, to this she rolled her eyes.
"Yes! You! So what do you say?"
"I mean- I'm usually the one doing this, yes?"
"Great!" She stood up from her spot on the bench and straightened out her skirt, "See you tomorrow at 7?"
"Yeah, I guess." James sat there flabbergasted. She smiled at him and went back to where her friends were sitting, most of whom were giggling at their interaction.
"What was that?" Sirius finally said, glancing between James and the figure of the girl walking away.
"I dunno, I have a date I guess." He looked at the girl again, she was quite pretty James thought. She had long black hair and hazel eyes, and walked with a sort of airiness to her. James was so surprised to be approached in that manner, by a girl, nonetheless, he had no clue what to say except for yes. Either way she had intrigued James greatly, no girl, other than Lily Evans, had the balls to say what they thought to him. Most just giggled as he walked by, too shy to even look him in the eyes.
He supposed that's what attracted him to Evans in the first place, although that attraction was long gone now. All that was there now was a particular loathing, but nonetheless, at one point in his Hogwarts career he had tried to do the same thing to Lily Evans, and she was the only girl who ever rejected him.
He supposed he could give this a chance now, and see how it goes.
A/N: Done with that, hope anyone who reads it likes it.
