7. Fallen

The New Moon still shaded above them, the kami using her power to keep the moon in shadow.

"This is the moment. We must go to where his power is sealed, and complete the ceremony." Kenshin said. "Are you ready for this, Priestess?"

"I am ready." Kurai said. "I am the soldier of redemption. And I will redeem the fallen."

"We will always be at your side, Princess." Yahiko comforted.

"You have no reason to worry. We will fight for you." Sanosuke confirmed.

They journeyed into the Suicide Forest at the base of Mount Fuji.

As they walked, their tragic pasts walked with them. The cries of those they had lost, echoing. Kurai could hear Kenshin's death cries, and she clutched his hand.

"This land is poisoned because of his influence." Kurai said. "The trees are in pain. Reiko would cry if she could see this."

They made their way to a clearing where a dark twisted tree dominated the landscape.

"Would I cry, Priestess?" Reiko stood there

The Fallen was here to protect her King.
