I skipped the Jinzo episode because I'm very uncomfortable with the summoning of dark forces and spirits through a Ouija board even though in the dub they called it a "Mystic Box". *eye roll*
If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's a duck.
As my mother would say, "it's a portal to hell."
Either way I just decided to just do this instead.
Disclaimer: I only own Kaida and some of her deck. That's it.
Enjoy!
Chapter 7: Winter break
"You sure you don't want to come and see everyone? Mom and Dad promised not to ground you for disappearing." I said, packing.
It was the start of winter break and most of the island was going home. The only ones that stayed were the ones whose parents were away or working through the holidays.
Jaden had decided that since neither Syrus nor Chumley were going home, he would stay too. Zane was staying too, even though I asked if he wanted to come and stay with me. But he declined and said that someone had to keep an eye on Syrus, even though they were in completely different dorms on different sides of the island.
"I'm sure. Besides I still need to heal after that last dragon attack." He said, waving his bandaged arms at me from his place at my desk.
I rolled my eyes. "Oh stop being a big baby! They didn't hurt you that badly, they were just upset."
"Upset? Alex* tried to eat me and Ryuka* cried all over me. Judai* looked like he wanted to run me through for making you both sad." He said.
"But either way, you're still fine. Now is that bag for me to take?" I asked pointing to the red and white duffle bag at his feet.
He looked down at it. "Yeah it's presents and letters to everybody. I wanted them to know I was thinking of them." He explained, scratching his cheek in slight embarrassment.
I smiled. "I'll let them know. Now you are absolutely positively, you don't want to come back with me?"
He rolled his eyes. "Yes, Kai, I'm sure. Just promise to say hi to everyone."
"Will do. Now help me with my suitecase."
I quickly got on the ship, leaving for Domino City, and settled in my cabin for the trip. It was kind of sad to leave the island, even for a few day.
"I'm glad to see that you made friends, Mistress."
A familiar transparent demonic, humanoid with sickly-pink skin, large black wings, Heterochromia eyes, the left being orange with a black mark underneath, the right green with a purple mark, and a third vertically placed eye, sat in the empty chair in front of me. He wore what resembled dark leggings and a tight muscle shirt, emphasizing said muscle. His wild hair was purple and white, the latter color on the left side, the former on the right. He also has blue lips and pointed teeth.
(A/N: Basically a more male looking Yubel with alternating colors. And a much less psycho personality.)
"It's been a while, Yuen. And how many times do I have to tell you not to call me that?"
He smiled, slightly cheeky. "One more then the last time." I rolled my eyes, he was so funny. "It has been a while, hasn't it?"
"Since before we came to Duel Academy Island." I told him, propping my head up with my hand. "I would ask why you're only showing up now, but we both know the answer to that." He nodded.
Jaden.
Ever since my parents had the memories of Yubel locked away in Jaden's head, they explicitly said that he was to never to see Yuen. Just in case Yuen's appearance, whether in card or physical form, triggered Jaden's locked memories. It was something we bother followed without question.
When Yubel was sent away, it destroyed Jaden, especially when he started to get those horrible nightmares about her being in pain. I remember him screaming and crying when he did, causing our parents to eventually lock all those memories away.
I had to hide Yuen's cards in my locket to make sure Jaden wouldn't accidentally find them. Also so I wouldn't accidentally summon him whenever we dueled. It was hard for the first year, but we both eventually got used to the new arrangement. Though I did have to explain to Zane and Atticus why I stopped using Yuen in my deck.
"Do you like them?" I asked. "You've only ever known Zane and Atticus."
"I do. They seem like a fun group. And it's nice to see Master Jaden be around such people." He said. "It's wonderful to see him opening up, don't you think?"
I nodded. It was nice to see Jaden have friends. "It is, But we need to be more careful now that Jaden can see Duel Spirits. You can only come out if we are completely alone without the risk of him showing up."
"I know, Mistress. I will be careful." He looked at me for a moment.
"What?" I asked, tilting my head slightly. "Is something wrong?"
"I'm just glad you're safe after that whole monkey situation." He said, a relieved smile on his face. "It took all of our self control and then some to stop Judai and I from saving you. If we had, the results might have been much more disastrous."
"Well, it's a good thing you two didn't." That was one mess I was happy to know was avoided.
Speaking of Wheeler...
My mind when back to the day after that.

3rd POV
"AHHH!"
Several students jumped at the loud screaming that came from the direction of the Slifer Red Dorm. It was break time so a lot of students were enjoying the last of the nice weather before winter break and spending time with their friends, discussing each of their plans for the holidays.
Of course that peace had been broken by the screaming.
Most of the students ignored it and went back to their original conversations but a couple of students who recognized the voice rushed to the dorm, worried for their Slifer Red friend.
Those being Alexis, Bastion, Syrus, Chumley, and Zane. Although the latter had a pretty good idea of what caused the screaming.
"What happened?" Alexis called out, as the group reached the dorm. "Is everything alright?"
The only one in the area was Kaida, who looked somewhat pleased with herself. "Oh, hey guys!" She waved, having noticed them.
"Kaida, is everything alright? We heard Jaden screaming. Is he okay?" Syrus asked really worried for his best friend.
"Jaden is fine." She said. "Mostly." She added, a satisfied smile on her face.
A look Zane knew all too well.
One he fully blamed Atticus for.
"Kaida what did you do?" Zane asked, exasperated. "What did you do to Jaden?"
She looked the picture of pure innocence, though it was ruined by the fact that she was practically vibrating from satisfaction. She gained a look of hurt that he didn't believe for a second, something he also blamed Atticus for. "Zaney, I'm appalled at you! How could you accuse me of having done something to my own brother?! Have you no faith nor trust in me?" She cover her face with her hands and fake cried into them. "My best friend! The pain from such accusations is unbearable!" She wailed dramatically.
This was all Atticus' fault.
This was all his doing.
Zane just sighed, already feeling a headache forming.
"Will you stop it?" Zane asked exasperated.
She abruptly stopped all dramatics, crossing her arms and pouting. "You're no fun, Zaney."
The sudden attitude change practically gave the others whiplash.
She was faking it? Was the collective thought.
Alexis just shook her head, remembering that this girl had been best friends with her overly dramatic brother and she just knew this whiplash of attitude was somehow his fault.
"Kai, where's Jaden?" Alexis asked, trying to get the conversation back on track.
"Oh he's around." The Slifer Red girl said, waving a hand flippantly.
"Is he okay?" Chumley asked.
Kaida shrugged. "Mostly. Probably." She paused. "He's definitely still alive."
"What does that mean?" Syrus asked, terrified for his best friend.
Zane just sighed, the headache getting bigger.
He hated dealing with the girl when she was in one of her more violent moods. "How many dragons Kai?"
She rolled her eyes at him. "Just one. And it's not even one of my bigger ones, so relax."
'How can I relax when you're summoning live dragon duel monsters and setting them on people?' He thought.
"Which one?" He asked.
Kaida sighed. "Just Alex. Jaden is fine, he'll live."
Just as she said that, Jaden came running out of the forest with a very familiar dragon monster on his tail. He ran passed them, screaming "HELP ME!" and "I'M SORRY," as a flesh and blood Alexandrite Dragon chased after him snapping his large jaw filled with equally large teeth at Jaden's back.
The others were too stunned to even begin comprehending what they just witnessed. Zane just sighed again, this time a lot heavier.
"Kaida, we talked about this." He said. "What were the rules?"
She sighed like hewas the one being difficult. "No setting live duel monsters on people who annoy me. No trying to feed people to my deck. No making spell and trap cards real and setting the effects on people." She recited monotoned. "But Zaney~!" She whined, grabbing onto his arm and tugging it like a child. "I got kidnapped by a monkey yesterday, all because Jaden had to find Chazz. This is my revenge~!"
"Kaida."
She huffed. "Fine." She whistled and Alexandrite Dragon stopped and quickly returned to his master like a giant mutated dog, long scaly tail wagging. Kaida scratched under his chin. "Who's a good boy?" She asked in a baby tone, as Jaden collapsed on his back trying to catch his breath. "You are, Alex. Did you have fun punishing Jaden for all the things he did?" The dragon nodded, obviously pleased with himself.
This was all Atticus' fault, and the bastard wasn't even here for Zane to hit.
His headache just kept getting worse.
He couldn't wait for winter break.
I giggled quietly to myself.
Poor Zane.
"Fun fact, Dad hasn't stopped teasing Uncle Joey about the whole dueling monkey thing. Especially since the monkey was named Wheeler." I told Yuen. "It's driving Uncle Joey up the wall."
"Yes, your Father and Uncle have always been an interesting relationship to witness." He said.
"That they do."
"Do you remember the day we first met?" He suddenly asked.
I raised an eyebrow. "Of course I do. Why the sudden urge for nostalgia? You're not normally like this."
He shrugged. "Humor me."
I sighed. "I was seven, the winter after I met Zane and Atticus. We met in a field of snow..."
Flashback
3rd POV
A young girl with brown hair and blue eyes wearing a dark blue winter coat, a white winter hat, purple snow boots, thermal leggings and a purple scarf was laying in the middle of a snow covered clearing, eyes closed. The clearing was by a small frozen lake and was a couple of miles deep in the forest behind her house.
She left without telling anyone where she was going, which she later realized was a bad idea, but she just needed to be out of the house. It was stifling. She wasn't sure why, but she just needed air and that meant being out of the house.
In retrospect she really should have told someone she was leaving. But in her defense, she knew that if she told someone, they would've stopped her.
The moment she left the house, she had just started walking with no real direction or destination. When she got to the clearing, she fell backwards onto the snow covered ground and just stared up at the grey cloudy sky as snow was falling gently.
She hurt Jaden.
She had hurt her own brother.
Her twin...
She hadn't meant too. It was an accident, or at least she thought it was. No one was sure what had actually happened. She and Jaden were dueling on the table and when she used the spell card Hinotama, somehow the card had released and real life fireball. This had not own startled both of them, but the suddenness of it caused Jaden to fall out of his chair as well as burn him from the spell. Seeing him in pain, she screamed for her parents to come.
When they did, one of the servants bringing a first aid kit, her Father demanded to know what happened. They explained and her mother called her Uncle Yugi, given his experience and knowledge of strange things happening. When he arrived, the twins explained again what happened. His first thought was that somehow they had managed to start a shadow duel, but he wasn't sure. He left, promising to research more to find a definite answer.
That was two weeks ago.
Everything went back to almost normal, except Kaida was terrified to even touch her cards. Jaden had forgiven her, though he didn't think she needed to apologize, and had begged her to duel him. But she didn't want to risk hurting him again. Until she was sure she wouldn't hurt him or anyone else, she kept refusing.
Then the broken window incident happened...
Jaden kept begging her to duel him, a week after the burn incident. She eventually got upset with him and his constant begging. When she yelled at him to stop asking, the window they were next to, exploded outward. The two jumped in shock and called their parents. When they explained, their Mother called their Uncle Yugi again and told him what happened, hoping that this new information would help in someway.
Now that she not only hurt Jaden but she also had the potential to hurt others with more then her duel cards, Kaida locked herself in her room. Her family tried to get her to come out but she refused, scared she would hurt them. The maids would bring her food and she had an in-suite bathroom, so she didn't really need to leave.
She swore she wouldn't see anyone until her Uncle Yugi had some answers. Or at least a way to stop whatever was happening to her.
But now, with her brother was still trying to get her to talk to their family, or at least to him, she had to get out of the house.
She wanted to be alone, hence the nature walk.
She closed her eyes, wishing someone, somewhere, would have an answer.
She wasn't sure how long she had laid there, the cold had long penetrated her coat and sunk into her bones, causing her to feel numb and tired.
The snow started getting heavier, covering her in a light snow blanket. She was so numb and out of it, she hadn't noticed the glow that came from the one duel card she had in her possession. She hadn't noticed the demonic-looking man that was kneeling at her side, looking frantic.
He carefully slid his arm under her and cradled her to him, shaking her gently to rouse her.
"Mistress! Mistress!" He begged. "Please, open your eyes!"
She could hear his voice, but she couldn't place a face to it. None of the servants called her that, only Miss or Young Miss. She felt warmth coming from the location of the voice causing her to realized how cold she was.
"Mistress, please!" The voice, he, continued to beg. "Please wake up!"
He sounded so sad. She could hear the tears in his voice.
"Please wake up! I-I can't lose you! Not again! Please!" He begged, barely holding in a sob.
Not again...? Her cold addled brain had latched on to that phrase.
She managed to open her heavy eyelids, looking up at the demonic man with glazed eyes.
She knew him.
It was Yuen, the special card her Father had given her.
Yuen looked at her in relief. "Thank the spirits!" He said, tears escaping from his eyes.
She managed to raise a hand to his surprisingly warm and solid cheek to wipe the tear away. "Don't cry." She said, her voice barely louder then a whisper. "I won't leave you."
He let out a choked laugh the mixed with the held in sob. "It's time to go home, Mistress."
"After that, I blacked out and you had carried me back home. I had gotten sick, and you stayed by my side the entire time. A couple of days later Uncle Yugi had come back with information on what was happening." I said.
"Yes, you became psychic. Becoming one who could bring life into the vessels that house the powers and spirits, to communicate with the latter." Yuen said. "Your Father found a jeweler who could make you that bracelet to stabilize your abilities so you wouldn't hurt anyone accidentally anymore."
"Yeah." I said, putting my arm down and playing with said bracelet.
When the jeweler first presented the bracelet, after being sworn to secrecy in fear of Dad ruining his life, Dad was not happy with the eye of Wdjat* given his experience with the shadow realm and the Millennium Items. But he couldn't have it sent back because I loved it. Since the Millennium Items had been destroyed, it made me feel a little special to have something like that.
Dad only became okay with it when it was proved to not have some ancient spirit trapped in it, take souls, read minds, or give visions. Once he got over the whole eye thing, he was fine. It weirded out the rest of my family too, but as time passed they too eventually got used to it.
The stabilizer definitely helped when we realized I was telekinetic too. That too awhile for all of usto get used to.
"Attention all students. We will be arriving at Domino City Port in 30 minutes. Please be prepared to disembark." The captain said over the ship's intercom, before repeating the order.
"That was fast." I commented. The trip was normally a few hours long since we were quite a ways off the coast of Japan. We must have been reminiscing for hours, even though it feels like it's only been a few minutes.
I stood up, grabbing my luggage and headed to the ship's deck.
I've been home for two days and it's been kinda nice. I've been able to spend time with both my parents and whatever relatives have been coming over or hanging around.
On the third day I decided to roam around town, maybe do some shopping. The day was cold but not terribly, the sky was full of dark clouds, full of snow. The wind was nonexistent making it more of a still cold then anything else. Which makes the day that much better.
I walked through the Plaza, stopping by a couple of stores to browse. I eventually made my way to the Clocktower Fountain and sat down at the edge of the main basin. The water had been turned off by the city and drained for the winter. It made the the plaza a little warmer, -even though the whole thing was filled with snow- especially since they added strings of lights from the base of the fountain to the top of it, then wrapping the Clocktower up for the holiday season.
I opened a book I had bought and began to read, letting the world and the Plaza noise fade away. I had gotten a few chapters in when I noticed I had some very interesting company. A transparent blue-ish purple rabbit-like creature with ruby red eyes, four ears and a long tail with a ruby red gem at the end of it, sat next too me. It hopped up on it's hind legs with its front legs on my book and tilted its head, as though it found something completely fascinating with me.
"Rubii?" It mewled questioningly.
I continued to give my book most of my attention but I watched the obvious duel spirit from the corner of my eye. It jumped up onto my book and looked up at me. I continued ignoring it. I had never seen this duel monster before so I wanted to see what kind it was.
"Pardon me, miss. You, uh, wouldn't happened to to have the time would you?" A male voice, in a southern accent asked me nervously and hesitant.
I looked up and saw a tall, teal haired, green eyed boy my age, standing in front of me. He wore a green plaid button up shirt, brown slacks, blue sneakers, a cream colored jacket and a black scarf. He shifted in place nervously and kept glancing down at my book, where the duel spirit rested looking up us.
He could see it...
Is the spirit his?
I raised an eyebrow at his somewhat weak attempt at being casual. He looked as if he wanted to snatch the spirit and run. "The clock is right behind me, you could just look up." I said with a slight smile.
"O-Oh, ri-right!" He said, scratching the back of his head obviously trying to keep me talking.
"Are you alright? You seem kinda nervous." I inquired. I wanted to see how he would get his wayward duel spirit back without looking like a crazy person.
"Yeah!" He said a little to loudly, causing his face to redden in embarrassment. "S-Sorry!"
Another duel spirit, this time a pink panther with an elaborate gold color with an amethyst gem in the middle, appeared at the boy's side. I furrowed my brow, hoping he would take it as me being worried about him.
He had more then one spirit.
How interesting...
"Calm down. Just tell her the truth." The duel spirit, she, advised. "I'll grab Ruby."
"R-right." He said, talking to both the cat and me. This should be interesting. "Sorry, it's just I go to an all boys school* so I'm not used to talking to girls. Especially really pretty ones."
I blinked in slight shock as my face heated up, a definite blush on my face. That was the truth?
"Well don't worry, I don't bite." A playful grin made its way onto my face. "Much." I added, watching his face explode red as the cat duel spirit grab the the other spirit, Ruby, by the scruff of the neck and the two disappear.
I think I'm gonna enjoy this.
I despise this chapter.
The first half was fine, it flowed, it was good.
The second half just did not want to come out. It's awful.
Jesse and his deck did not want to work with me!
Why Jesse?! Why?!
I wrote the first half in August...just think on that for a second. I just finished it ten minutes ago. (10/12/20 8:45 pm)
(*) Alex is Alexandrite Dragon, Ryuka and Judai are Cards I made for Kaida's deck based on her and Jaden. I said in the first chapter that it was the eye of Horus but I had double checked the wikia and it said that it was the eye of Wdjat on the millennium items. So from now on that's what I'm gonna use when I talk about the eye.I'm not going to go back and change it cause I'm too lazy to do it. I couldn't find any information on the official Wikia that North Academy was a Co-Ed or not. The school duel episode had only male students from North Academy, not a single girl. So I just made North an all boys school.
The flashback was mostly just Zane blaming Atticus. I had fun with it.
So Yuen is Yubel's brother. I wanted Jaden and Kaida to have sibling cards. When Jaden got Yubel, Kaida got Yuen- who plays a very similar role as Yubel does in season 4 and in their past lives. More will be explained in the Dimension Arc.
I'm taking suggestions on Kaida's spirit day costume. I wanted to do matching costumes for her and Jaden. Since his is a mishmash of different pieces of other costumes and he ends up taking it off to duel Dark Magician Girl, I wanted to give him a proper costume. Even if it's for a couple more paragraphs and future mentions.
So far I'm thinking of Elemental HEROs Heat and Lady Heat.
Let me know!
Also I hope everyone is safe and being careful during this pandemic. Please remember to cover your face and wear gloves when you go out. If you don't have gloves, please do not touch your face until you wash them thoroughly with warm water and soap.
And I just want to say thank you all those out on the front lines. Thank you so much for all that you are doing in this crazy time.
Please review!
