Ministry of Magic vs Gods (gods, not God)
In A Fight
Under different circumstances, the Ministry of Magic (MOM) might win. The reason for this is if the Dementors kept up their act (being loyal to the MOM), the Minister of Magic could just tell the Dementor to suck the gods' soul out. But, because of their loyalty to Voldemort, they were removed as the guards of Azkaban and replaced by Aurors. So, they don't work for the MOM anymore. I've done some research and I remembered one of the spells invented by Severus Snape: 'Sectumsempra', which, in case you didn't know, causes serious injuries to the victim.
This clearly wouldn't kill the gods because they're immortal, but it would hurt them and make them bleed ichor. The only thing is, the MOM doesn't know about this curse. The only (living) people that know about 'Sectumsempra', is Harry, the remaining Weasley family (R.I.P Fred Weasley), Hermione and maybe Professor McGonagall. Not the MOM.
But, they do know about the 'Severing Charm' (Diffindo). This charm is usually used to cut things, which is probably why it was taught to 2nd years, but it can also be used to injure or even kill.
All those advanced spells in mind, if Hecate was on the gods' side, she could probably halt all of the Ministry's magic. Then the twin archers (Artemis and Apollo) could shoot the crap out of all the Ministry officials.
Who Has More Influence
Just to be clear, 'influence' means how much control they have over the people they control. Example: How much power do the gods have over mortals and how much power does the MOM have over the wizards and witches in Britain?
MOM: The Ministry only has power over British wizards and witches, but that is a lot. And they can make laws like when attending Hogwarts was a requirement instead of a choice. That sort of things obviously gives the MOM a lot of control over British wizards and witches. They're able to make sure certain laws aren't broken, such as the 'no under-age magic' law. They use the Trace, which alerts under-age magic. That being said, the Fidelius Charm is able to conceal any location from anyone as long as the Secret Keeper doesn't tell anyone. This spell is so powerful because:
A) Only the Secret Keepers and whoever the Secret Keepers trust and tell directly the location know about it. In the words of Filius Flitwick: "...and never find them, not even if he had his nose pressed against their sitting room window!"- Talking about Lily and James Potter's Fidelius Charm to protect them from Voldemort.
B) The secret can't be forced out. For example: Veritaserum, the Cruciatus Curse and the Imperuis Curse will not force the truth out of the Secret Keeper.
Pretty cool, huh? I should do that with my secret candy stash...
Anyway, yeah, the MOM wouldn't know about this unless one of the people there was a Secret Keeper and they told people.
Moving on from admiring that spell, they also can maintain control with the Taboo spell. This spell, if you didn't know, is cast when someone wants to be alerted if someone says a specific word or phrase. In the Second Wizarding War, a Taboo was cast by Death Eaters. They were notified when someone said Lord Voldemort's name specifically. The one downside to the Taboo is that it has no effect somewhere that has the Fidelius charm upon it.
There are also people that manage to slip just under the watchful eyes of the Ministry.
In the Deathly Hallows, there was a time when the Death Eaters basically had full control of the Ministry. And, yet, the Order of the Pheonix was still able to operate. Of course, this is mostly due to the Fidlius Charm that was placed on 12 Grimmauld Place and almost anywhere the Order members met. The Death Eaters and Voldemort most likely knew there was a very powerful charm that protected wherever Order members met, which is why the Taboo was set in place, to catch Order members. In conclusion, yeah, the Ministry has bucketloads of power, and that's exercised well enough, but some wizards and witches can still go under-the-radar with illegal things.
Gods: This one is a bit harder because, if we're going off of what Rick Riordan said, the gods move there home depending on where they get the most prayers from and that sort of thing. But, they still have control of the world. Like, if someone said Zeus had anger issues all the way in Romania, Zeus would hear that from his throne on Mount Olympus in New York.
I suppose the only way to get away with calling Apollo's poetry stupid is to be a demigod. For example, we've seen the PJO characters insult the gods multiple times, and all that happens is a little thunder. But in 'Percy Jackson's Greek Gods', there is a family that has 7 boys, 7 girls and a mum and dad. I'm pretty certain that this was how it went. The 14 kids were pretty talented and the mum and dad liked to say that a lot and boast to their friends. One day, the mum and dad either really got annoying with this or they said their kids were better than Apollo and Artemis. I can't remember which. But I know that, in the end, they all ended up dead.* That was just a random example that popped into my tiny brain, but an example none the less.
That got off-topic and I apologise. The point is, is someone sneezes in a way that one of the gods don't like... they are going to die.
So, in case you couldn't tell, gods are more powerful than some lucky people waving around sticks (I'm kidding).
*I'm about 80% sure this is correct, but I know someone died.
I've always liked this story, I really get into the chapters.
Hope you all enjoyed...
