Fugitives:
Hope was inside her room, pondering over things that her father had told her. There was sudden bash of the door. "Hope, we have to go now!" Hank alerted. "Grab all your important things! George's too! And get into the car!"
"Why?" Hope asked, getting scared. "What's going on?"
"It's Scott!" Hank answered.
"What? Is he in trouble?" Hope asked.
"No, he's caused us be fugitives!"
"What?" Hope was speechless. "How?"
"There's no time for explanations!" Hank retorted. "Just get your things, George's too and I'll explain everything once we get going!"
Hope rushed into her room and started grabbing everything she could get. She grabbed some photo albums, some reminders of her mother, some gifts she and George had given to each other as children.
When she dashed outside, she saw a grey van. "Dad…how did…"
Hank opened up a circle-shaped box to reveal tiny vehicles. Then he pulled out a remote. He pressed a button. Instantly, the van shrunk to a small size.
"Woah. That is clever,"
"Load your stuff inside. Then help me grab the equipment from downstairs!"
In less than fifteen minutes, the van was loaded, and Hope and Hank were off with Hope driving.
"Pull that lever," Hank ordered, pointing to a grey lever. Hope did just that. She felt a sudden whoosh in her stomach. She realised that everything outside was so much bigger.
"This is so cool!"
"Drive us to that side street," Hank ordered.
Even from inside a now small vehicle, Hope could see towering walls that led out of the main road. She turned the wheel and the van was pulled into a side street. Hope stopped the engine. She turned to her father in a flash.
"Okay. Dad. What is going on?" she demanded.
"You know the Avengers, Hope?" Hank started. She nodded. "Well, they were given the Sokovian Accords that would mean that the government would decide all the actions they would take and if they refused to sign it, they would be forced to resign,"
"Well what does that have to do with Scott?" Hope asked.
"Well Captain America and some of the Avengers rebelled against the Accords and fought against Iron Man who agreed with the Accords and some of the ones who allied with him and Scott aided Captain America,"
"What?" Hope felt betrayed.
"And since he used my technology which is illegal according to the Sokovian Accords, the government thinks we along with your brother were part of the conflict and now we have to go on the run because of that idiot. If I hadn't have heard from my walk earlier this morning, we would be in custody right now.
Hope slumped back in her seat feeling incredibly betrayed. Hank gave his daughter a moment of silence.
"Where will we go?" Hope asked their dad.
"I don't know, Hope," Hank answered. "But we must still continue working on the machine to bring your mother. First we need to find your brother. The authorities will certainly be likely to arrest him as well,"
"But he had nothing to do with this!" Hope ranted. "Neither did you or I,"
"Maybe to us. But not to the government,"
"Okay…after we find him, how are we goanna build that machine to bring mum back if we can't go to a lab without getting caught?"
"Well I worked on a portable lab," Hank explained. "With a special remote, it can shrink and grow, and we'll be able to take it anywhere with us. Think of it like a suitcase that can shrink or enlarge."
"Well let's get started on right away after we find George. But how are we going to find him?"
Hank didn't answer. He was already terrified for his son's life.
(a day later)
Alison had arrived in Washington after a late flight from Germany and was now boarding the ship. She could not wait to catch up with George. It would feel great to see him again. A part of her feared for Sharon.
Once she went to her radio room and disposed of her bags, she went to look for George. She walked up to the front deck when she could see Washington slowly disappearing from view.
She saw George.
"Looks like someone's enjoying the view again," she said, alerting him of her presence.
He turned. "I thought you might come up here. Lovely to see you again,"
"And what a pleasure it is to see you," Alison leaned on the rail and looked out to the sea.
"You doing okay,"
"I'm fine," she alleged a little vaguely.
"I'm here now if you need me,"
"Thanks. My family are doing alright,"
"What else is up with you? I can tell when something is wrong,"
"I'm just worried about my sister Sharon. I fear that she might have got into trouble,"
"You mean with the case of the Sokovian accords?"
"Yes. She told me that Captain American hadn't agreed to them and…did you hear of the attack on Vienna?"
"Yes. I heard that the king of Wakanda died leaving his daughter to take the throne. Boy is she determined to catch the Winter Soldier,"
"From all that time I spent with my sister and the captain, I could tell that they have a clear attraction to each other. And I'm worried that because of his rebelling, Sharon has got herself into trouble,"
"If there is anything I can do…"
"Don't concern yourself with me and my family. The last thing I want is for you to get into trouble. Or your family. I heard from Sharon that the Accords involved no use of any technology regarding your father,"
"So did I. But trust me. My father's technology is in safe hands. Or at least he assumes it's in safe hands,"
"What do you mean he assumes?"
"A lot has been going on since the medal ceremony,"
"Tell me all about it,"
Before George could start, Alison heard a screech on her radio.
"Excuse me for a sec. Hello,"
"Alison report to the radio room. There's a call waiting for you," the voice called.
"Okay. Sorry George. I'll catch up with you later,"
"No worries. I'll see you in a bit,"
Alison dashed down to the radio room. She pulled on her headphones. "Come in,"
"You are to tell your captain to stop engines. You are about to be boarded,"
"Boarded? What?"
"There is a fugitive on board who needs to be apprehended,"
"Who?"
"That is not your right to know!"
"Well, at least tell me so I can tell the captain!"
"We will tell him when we are on board. So order your captain to stop the ship!"
"Okay! Copy that!"
The radio switched off.
Alison had a gut feeling that something bad was about to happen. And she couldn't help but feel it was to do with George.
"Miss Carter!" the captain entered the room. "What was it?"
"It was officials saying that they are to board this ship! They said they were to arrest a fugitive!"
"Did they say who?"
"No! I told them to tell me so as to tell you, but they refused! They want you to stop the ship!"
The captain groaned. He pulled out a radio. "Calling engine room! Stop all engines!"
George was about to leave to return to his cabin when he noticed that the ship was stopping. He looked over the rail and saw police boats arriving. Next thing his senses detected was the sound of a frantic Alison running up to him.
"Alison! What's wrong?! Do you know why there are officials coming to this ship?"
"George! Those officials are here to arrest a fugitive!"
"Why are you looking so frantic?"
"George! I think it would be best if you hide!"
"Me hide? Am I the fugitive? Did they say who it was?"
"No. But I have a feeling it might be you concerning your family and their technology. Please George, you must hide in your cabin!"
"Okay,"
Alison escorted George down to the cabins and George sat at his bed.
"Don't leave this whatever you do. You might not be the fugitive but regarding Sokovian Accord circumstances, it would be best for you to keep away from the government,"
"Okay,"
Alison closed the door. She turned and proceeded to return to the radio room. She had just turned a corner when she came across the government officers from those police boats.
"Oh excuse me sirs," she apologised.
"Hold it right Miss Carter," the leader ordered.
She halted.
"I was just looking for George. Thought it might be nice to catch up with an old friend,"
"Well I hate to tell you this, but George is under arrest,"
"On what charges?" Alison demanded.
"Technology belonging to his family was used in violation of the Sokovian Accords,"
"But that has nothing to do with him," she snapped. "And has he not shown his loyalty to our country? He saved hundreds of men. He willingly risked his life,"
"The court will decide. Once we have him and his family apprehended,"
"Woah, was it actually his family who used it?"
"No. The user of Hank Pym's tech was a former thief named Scott Lang," On his phone, the officer showed an image of a middle-aged man with a dark hair and bristles. "It's obvious that Hank had sent him so he's wanted along with his daughter, George's sister Hope Van Dyne. They've recently gone on the run but we are tracking them down as we speak,"
"You cannot possibly think they had something to do with this former thief's choice of using Pym's technology,"
"That is not for you to decide. Now you will help us find George, give you a chance to prove your loyalty to the accords, unlike your sister Sharon Carter who we know aided the ex-Avenger Captain American,"
Alison frowned. She felt a strong arm grab her arm. She was pulled forward with them. She shivered as she thought of her beloved twin sister on the run.
The captain came across them.
"Release Miss Carter, this instant!" he ordered.
The government officer did.
"Now what do you? What makes you think you have a right to stop my ship and board it when you haven't even given the name of the fugitive to me? It's my ship and so my right to know who it is,"
"We're looking for George Van Dyne,"
"Why would George be a fugitive? He's been a loyal soldier to this country. He risked his life to save hundreds of my men in Onega,"
"His family violated the accords yesterday when their tech was used yesterday in a conflict between members of the Avengers,"
"Captain! That has nothing to George," Alison implored.
"Be quiet Miss Carter," the captain hissed.
"His father and sister are already on the run and the house is gone. Miss Carter here will be kept under watch since her sister Sharon aided the fugitive Captain American. Search the ship for George!"
George sat patiently on his bed, waiting for Alison. The pounding of feet echoed in his ears. He tiptoed to the door and out through the small door window, he saw governments shuffling in and out.
"Find George! Check every cabin!"
George felt his heart hammer in his chest. Why are they after me? Good thing Alison told me to sit in here.
"Let's check down here!" he heard a man say. He blinked when they saw they were heading in his directions.
Quickly he drew back from the door, searching for a good place to hide. But there was nothing.
He suddenly got an idea when he saw some metal pipes above the door and above them was a space that was quite dark, he couldn't quite see what was up there.
Alison's arm ached from all the pulling the government were giving her.
"Gentleman I really must protest!"
"Silence Carter!" her captor hissed. They went inside her room and he shoved her into her seat.
"Am I to be kept under surveillance?! in my own office?!"
"Until we catch that fugitive and bring him over! And you too!"
"Why do you disrespect members of the navy who have been loyal to their own country?"
"That is not for you to decided radio woman,"
Bong.
The man's face went dazed. He fell forwards. Behind him was George with a canister.
"George…"
"Help me lift him,"
Quickly they grabbed the arms and legs of the man and dragged him inside the office before Alison closed the door.
"Come on!" George grabbed her hand and they ran. They made it through the corridors and found a hidden corner.
"What is going on?" George demanded. "Why are they after me?"
"Yesterday there was a conflict between the Avengers and your father's technology was used. Since when did your father entrust his technology to a former thief?"
George blinked. "Scott?"
"You know about this man…"
"I really don't have time to explain about that. What has this got to do regarding my arrest?"
"since it was your father's technology that was used, the government have issued an arrest for you and your family,"
"My sister! My father!"
"The officials said that they're already on the run! And their house is gone,"
George shrunk back with horror. Although he had spent most of his childhood in a boarding school, he still loved that house.
"I'm sorry George," Alison consoled. "We must go now. Come on!"
Alison pulled him away and they snuck through the corridors until they found their way up to the top deck to the lifeboats through a hidden hatch.
"You must head back to San Francisco to find your family,"
"No Alison! Come with me," he implored.
"No. I have to keep them occupied while you go on the run,"
"But what if they find out?"
"They won't. Trust me,"
"When will I see you again?" he asked.
"I'll contact you as soon as possible. Now go,"
George hopped into the lifeboat and Alison lowered it into the sea. George detached it from the hooks and turning on the engine. And away he sailed. As he disappeared into the darkness, Alison watching him every second. Quickly as she could, she rushed as fast as she could back to her office without being seen and closed the door.
Just as she sat down in her seat and pulled the knocked-out bodyguard up a bit, two men entered.
"Just been sitting here gentleman,"
"Did you knock him out?"
"No. He nodded off a second ago. Probably had a bit too much to drink," she lied.
"Sir!" a man called from above. "One of the lifeboats has gone!"
"What? George must have taken one and escaped!"
"Then we go after him!"
They looked at Alison.
"I had nothing to do with this. How could I? I was in my office under watch!"
"Alright. It seems your friend is nowhere to be seen. As for you, you will be kept under watch,"
"What?!" she spat. "You can't do that!"
"And in the meantime, we'll continue our search for Hank and Hope as well,"
"Will you give them a fair trial and a chance to explain themselves before you lock up three innocent people?" Alison questioned.
All she got was a stare in return.
George sailed as fast as he could in his lifeboat. He feared for Alison's life. He hoped that she would be alright. After five tiring hours of steering the lifeboat with the engine, he finally saw San Francisco in sight when he saw the Golden Gate Bridge. Quietly he docked at the ports and pulled on a hoodie and wrapped a scarf around his face.
He went into the streets to keep a low profile. He started searching for his sister and father, hoping they were alright and safe. He heard footsteps. He stopped.
Quickly he ducked behind a corner.
"Stop right that!" the voice of a police officer ordered.
George tried to find a way out, but he realised he was trapped. Suddenly he felt a hand over his mouth and felt himself being pulled away.
"Let go of me!" he shouted, struggling to release himself.
"Take it easy 'little brother'" I just saved your life,"
George stopped. There was only one person who said that.
Once he was released, he turned and saw his sister and his father in front of a grey van.
"Thank god you're okay," Hope hugged her brother tightly.
"We were so worried," Hank embraced his son next. "Now come on,"
Quickly they hopped into the van and with Hope driving it, they pulled away out of the street.
"Hang on George. Things are going to get a lot bumpy," Hope pulled a lever.
George felt his tummy coming right up into his throat. Next thing he saw were giant buildings outside the windshield.
"Are we small?" he asked.
"Yes we," Hank said.
"Dad…Alison told me that our technology was used by Scott Lang in Germany during the conflict between the Avengers,"
"Since my technology is in violation with the Sokovian Accords, we're marked as refugees,"
"That's so unnecessary. It may be your tech, but you didn't use it!"
"Not according to the government,"
"That buffoon…" George cursed. "If I see him again, I will rip him apart. I knew something like this would happen,"
"How did you get away?" Hope asked.
"Alison helped me escape from the ship just as it left Washington. She lowered me in a lifeboat, and I sweat for five hours steering it until I arrived here. I assumed that you guys would be here since it wouldn't be safe to leave the city,"
"And right you were my boy," Hank approved.
"I hope Alison will be okay. She's already in trouble herself since her twin sister Sharon Carter helped Captain America,"
"I'm sure she'll be fine George," Hank consoled. "She's a tough girl,"
"George…there's something dad needs to tell you," Hope said.
"George…" Hank turned from his seat to look at him. "I think your mother is alive,"
George was paralysed with shock. "What?"
"If Scott made it out of the Quantum Realm, it means he survived. That must mean that Janet is alive too. I think it's possible to bring her back,"
"We're going to build this brother," Hope unravelled a white scroll to reveal a tunnel that seemed to grow narrower from one side to the other. "It's a tunnel to the Quantum Realm,"
"We're going to build a tunnel to a realm which you are lost in space and time…in order to find mum?"
"Yes," Hank answered.
"But what if she's not alive? She's been down for nearly thirty years. How could she possibly be alive?"
"George…we must try," Hope implored. "I want her back in our lives more than anything,"
"But how are we going to do that whilst we're on the run?"
Hank answered his question by pulling out a square shaped suitcase which looked more like a medium-sized model of a building. "With this. this lab can grown big and small,"
"You're amazing," George breathed. He admired his father's technology to a great extent. "Do you really think that we can rescue mum?" George asked Hope.
"I believe we can," Hope answered. "If Scott can get out of that realm, so can mum,"
George was on fire. "Then let's do this,"
Here it is again. Hope you guys liked it. Sorry if it didn't meet any expectations. Shall I have Alison come in later? Please let me know what you all would like. Anyways hope you all are well during these circumstances.
