"Okay so what I'm getting from all of this is any song that I pick I just sing it in that note and I can control the situation I'm in?" I say from my spot on Kakashi's couch, Ino is sitting cross legged next to me and Naruto is sitting across from us too indulged in his ramen to pay any attention. Kakashi makes an approving noise from his chair, not looking up from his book.
"If you think about it, that's pretty awesome.." Ino says as she looks at me from her phone, I give her a side glance before looking back at the book in front of me.
"Is this something I need to practice? Or will I know when I'm in trouble?" I ask as I scan over a few Greek pages on sirens.
"I think we should try.. I'm interested." Ino says, putting her phone away and looking at Kakashi.
"We need to go somewhere secluded if you're wanting to-" Kakashi starts before there's a knock on the front door. Everyone stops abruptly at the noise and Kakashi pulls out a gun from his hip as he goes to answer the door.
"Ino get her back. Naruto back me up." He says suddenly before the door is kicked in. I jump off the couch as Ino stands in front of me, her eyes turning red as we look at Sasuke and Kisame standing in the doorway. Fuck.
"You need to leave, Uchiha." Kakashi seethes as he points the black gun at his head. I'm frozen in my spot as Naruto moves next to Kakashi, somewhat shielding us from view.
"I don't think I will." Sasuke says carelessly before appearing behind the two. My heart starts racing as I can feel his eyes boring a hole into me. Everything seems to go in slow motion as Kakashi has to engage in fighting Kisame and Naruto turns to almost snatch Sasuke back. My heart almost stops as I see Sasuke pull out a sword towards Naruto.
What the fuck can I do..?!
Sing.
"I don't know what to do without you
I don't know where to put my hands
I've been trying to lay my head down
But I'm writing this at 3am.."
I sing out suddenly, everyone in the room freezing as my voice carries. My heart is racing and I feel every pair of red eyes on me as I continue.
"I don't need the world to see
That I've been the best I can be, but
I don't think I could stand to be
Where you don't see me.."
What do I do now?! Do I just run? Do I..
"On sunny days I go out walking
I end up on a tree-lined street
I look up at the gaps of sunlight
I miss you more than anything..."
I quickly move and grab onto Kakashi and hope everyone understands to..
"I don't need the world to see
That I've been the best I can be, but
I don't think I could stand to be
Where you don't see me.."
I fist my hands in his shirt and pull him back some and try to will him to flash away from this situation. I glance back to..
"And autumn comes when you're not yet done
With the summer passing by, but
I don't think I could stand to be
Where you don't see me.."
I quickly close my eyes and open them and we're all suddenly standing in a field in the moonlight.
"Wh.. What just happened..?" Ino mumbles from behind me as we all look around to each other.
"Is anyone hurt?" Kakashi asks and we all shake our heads.
"Where are we..?" She asks looking around the empty field.
"I don't know. I don't honestly know how we got away all together."
"Once Sakura started singing my brain shut off so I don't know what happened. It was like I was there and then I'm looking at you guys in this field."
"Do you think it was one of us?" Ino asks, almost patting herself down as I turn around to the field were in.
"I know where we are.." I mumble, remembering my first memory of Ino from when we were little. I was being bullied by a bunch of kids from school and she showed up and tried to fight them, successfully punching a kid and getting grounded. Why are we here though?
"Before we go on does anyone else know where we are?" Kakashi says, glancing around before landing on me.
"What.." I mumble, looking around awkwardly.
"It was you."
"Very funny."
I haven't even fully accepted what's happening in my life before tonight, there's no way I can accept anything else. Nope, my brain refuses to accept anything new.
"You got us all out of there. None of us could coherently process enough to skip out like that." Kakashi adds, looking at me wide eyed from behind his mask.
"What? There's no way! One of you had to do it, I'm normal.. Well mostly but still, how would I even manage that?" I sputter, throwing my hands as the refusal sets in.
"Sakura.. You saved us all from that situation.." Ino says, finally looking at me and raising her eye brows.
"But how-"
"Cathartic Sirens. They work for Hades. The only way to be able to skip around like that is if you had Demon blood somewhere in you. We should've put it all together with the other two having served Zeus and Poseidon." Kakashi says, looking down with his eye brows knitted.
"Okay. What? What the fuck does that mean? I didn't think there was Greek mythology that I needed to research about myself." I say almost laughing at how insane this conversation is getting.
"It's where sirens come from, it's translated similarly through all religions. It doesn't matter what you believe in, it all ends up being the same. At the end of everything it doesn't matter which side you pick, you are placed in one from whatever deity decides to believe in you. You, Sakura Haruno, happen to be the third and final Siren in all of history." Kakashi says making my brain clouded from all of this new information.
"We can go over more later, right now we need to get somewhere safe." He adds before grabbing my hand and turning towards the tiny opening in the trees surrounding us. Ino and Naruto follow quietly as we walk out of the clearing.
I glance at the man holding my hand and let my mind wonder over everything.
Okay so I'm now not only a siren but a siren that has demon blood in her. What the absolute fuck. And I just paused time and jumped elsewhere in the universe just by singing. I'm a siren. I'm a demon siren. This has got to be a prank. Someone has to be playing a bad game of Sims. Someone must be getting a kick out of my life.
"We're close to Ino's." I mumble as we hit the sidewalk.
"Were we in that field we used to go to when we were kids?" Ino suddenly asks, falling into step on my right. I nod and smile lightly before she points across the street to her family's three story townhome.
"We can stay there until we figure out what's going on. Good news is no one in the demon world really know where I live." She says before walking ahead of us towards her side door. I glance down at my hand that Kakashi is still holding on to and smile a little at the calmness I get from him touching me.
So all of this seems impossible.. So I'll figure it out. I'll learn as much as I can and run with it. My life isn't over and even though this is all drastically way too much to handle, I'll figure it out.
"Through here." Ino adds as we all follow her up a set of stairs to her office. The room is small but big enough for two couches and a desk. She turns on the light and the baby blue room is illuminated, all of her pastel colors almost glowing in the warm lighting. I feel a squeeze on my hand before Kakashi releases me and moves to her desk.
"Do you mind?" He asks before she nods and he sits down and starts typing on her computer.
"Hey could be a worse situation!" Naruto says as he sits across from me on the other couch, his smile making me smile back.
"Hard to imagine but thanks anyways." I say, looking down at my hands.
Where do we go from here? Am I going to have to live my whole life on the run from these demons coming after me? Is there any way to make it all stop?
"Hey does anyone want anything? I can go grab some drinks?" Ino asks as she looks at all of us.
"Sure, thank you." I say, glancing back down as my thoughts try to take back over me.
"Hey we'll get things figured out, don't worry." Naruto says, I glance at the blond man and honestly hope that's true.
"Alright I've found more on the subject. This should be the last of the surprises. You are what we thought, you have demons blood in you so you can skip around like any demon can. You've already figured out the note you have to sing which makes things much easier. Now we just follow through with the plan."
"What is the plan again?" Naruto asks, earning a glare from a Kakashi before he sighs and finishes talking.
"We are going to try to use her voice against them every time they show up until we can figure out a way to stop them from coming after her completely."
"So death." I mumble, not looking at anyone as I say those words.
It's true, the only way to stop it is killing them. They won't just forget about me being a siren, and I just pray I can elude them long enough to survive.
"You're right, as much as I wish there was another way. There isn't. I have another home we can stay at tonight, tomorrow we need to meet with Tsunade"
"You're going to see Granny? What for?" Naruto asks, catching my attention.
"Granny?" I say, looking at the blonde in front of me. His blue eyes move to me before lighting up.
"Yeah! Granny is related to my family somehow, it's been a while since I've seen her though.."
"I grabbed what we had from the fridge." Ino says as she walks back in with a few bottles of water before handing them out.
"Thanks."
"Ino, we will be leaving soon but I need you to keep an eye out with Naruto to see if they show up anywhere close by." Kakashi says before sitting next to me on the couch. I smile at him briefly as she nods and sits next to Naruto.
"Don't worry, we've got this under control." Naruto calls out, throwing his thumb up comically. I laugh a little before glancing back at the silver haired man next to me, he's looking back at me causing me to jump a little before looking away with red on my face.
"Let's go ahead and head out, it's getting late." Kakashi says, standing and extending his hand for me to take. I stand with him as well as Ino and Naruto before we start walking for the door.
"Hey wait! Let me grab you some clothes!" Ino calls before taking off towards her bedroom, just that statement lights up my face. I'm still in this red monstrosity of a dress since I didn't exactly have any clothes at Kakashi's place. The blonde returns quickly with a bag with some clothes in it, I thank her quickly as we start walking again
"Keep me posted. I want to know if anything at all happens." He adds as we make our way out of the door to the side wall. Ino nods before hugging me and stepping back inside, Naruto does the same and nods to Kakashi before we are suddenly standing in front of an even smaller house surrounded by trees.
I gasp lightly at the scenery change before I feel Kakashi set his hand on my lower back.
"You'll get used to jumping like that, we should be fine here since there is no way for anyone to follow us." He says, silently ushering me towards the side door. The issues in my world seem to wash away at the feel of him touching me. My whole body relaxes as he keeps his hand on my back, both of us walking inside quietly. He locks the door behind us before moving to turn on the lights, it's a cute little cottage type place. The kitchen is plain and opens into the living room, not much care went into decorating this place but it's not too bad.
"Do you mind if I take a shower?" I ask, realizing it's been a couple days since I was able to shower properly. He nods before walking down a hallway towards the back of the house.
"There should be toiletries in there along with towels." He says before opening a door to reveal a beautiful bathroom, there's a stand up shower with the walls made of some kind of stone. I smile gratefully before walking to turn the water on to give it time to heat up, missing Kakashi standing in the doorway watching me. I turn slightly and almost jump at his red eyes staring at me, I'm still not used to that.
"Uhm.. Do you want to shower first?" I ask awkwardly, not entire sure why he's staring at me. I play with the material of the dress before hearing him move towards me, I glance up at his red eyes as his hand moves to my hip. I swallow the lump in my throat as he suddenly moves his mask off of his face, my eyes immediately looking over his features like I haven't seen them in days.
"Kakashi.." I mumble, not really understanding what is happening in this tiny bathroom. His right hand moves up to move my hair back over my shoulder, slightly ghosting over the mark from yesterday. A shiver runs down my spine at the warm contact to that spot, heat flooding through my system. I glance up to his eyes again before he moves back and leaves the room, my heart racing and almost falling as I watch him retreat and close the door. I shake my head lightly before stripping and stepping into the warm water of the shower. I know there's something there with him, but it's like he doesn't want to engage in anything. I can't say it's a negative thing, but being bonded with him makes it harder to ignore the feelings that run through me when he touches me. I wash myself slowly, enjoying the heat blasting on my skin.
"Sakura."
I jump at the sound of my name echoing in the bathroom and almost bust my butt from the slick floor. I move the glass slightly to see if Kakashi is back in the bathroom but it's empty. My forehead wrinkles at the idea that maybe I'm just hearing things..
"Hello?" I almost sputter, knowing there's no one there. I slowly turn back to finish showering only to hear the door open and close.
"Hello?!" I call out again, sliding the door open to see if I'm losing my mind. I squeak before closing the glass at seeing a shirtless Kakashi standing by the sink.
"You called me?" He asks causing me to peak at him from the sliver of space between the wall and the glass door.
"Oh.. Uhm.. Sorry I thought I heard my name.." I mumble out, glancing at his distorted form through the glass. He turns slightly to meet my eyes, my hands going to cover my naked body.
"I heard you call out my name, is everything alright?" He asks as he turns towards the glass door, his hand almost reaching for the handle.
"Yes!" I squeak, turning the water off and shutting the door. I mentally smack myself as I realize my towel is out on the counter.
"Could you possibly hand me my towel?" I manage out, grabbing it from his outstretched hand. I wrap the cream colored towel around me before opening the glass door, looking at the man standing before me. I can feel heat pooling in my cheeks as I realize I'm basically naked in front of him. His eyes jump slightly to my form before settling back on my face.
"I can leave if that would make you feel better." He says, rubbing the back of his neck as he leans back into the counter.
"No it's okay I just think I was hearing things."
"Good, then you won't mind if I join you?"
