Leo hadn't set an alarm but his body had woken him up at the usual time he'd get up to meditate before their morning practice. He'd given his brothers the day off from morning practice, as it was the one year anniversary of their father's death. But Leo couldn't sleep in on a day like today.

Since their father's death, his room had been changed into a memorial room and Leo would spend a lot of his time mediating there.

Slipping out of his and Raph's bed, careful not to wake his mate, he made his way to his father's room for some refreshing morning meditation to start his day and to make him feel closer to his father on the first anniversary of his passing.

He didn't know how long he had been in his father's room when Raphael called out to him.

"Leo? Come on, breakfast is ready." Raph said from the doorway.

"I'll be there in a minute." Leo promised, looking back at his brother to give him a smile before closing his eyes again.

Raph knew that Leo was telling the truth so he left him be, returning to the kitchen where Donnie and Mikey had finished dishing out the food Mikey had cooked for them and were sitting down at the table.

"Is he coming?" Mikey asked.

"Yeah he'll be here in a sec." Raph said as he also sat down.

They'd barely started to eat when Leo came into the kitchen and took a seat next to Raphael.

"Smells good Mikey."

"Thanks." Mikey smiled at his brother through mouthfuls of food, for which he was scolded by his mate but received chuckles from his other two brothers.

The rest of the day was peaceful and the four brothers spent a lot of time together including a relaxed training session that Raph had suggested and Leo was surprised when Mikey and Donnie had agreed. After they'd had a movie marathon before dinner.

After dinner, when it was dark out, the brothers took a trip topside, to where they had scattered Splinter's ashes all those months ago. They'd scattered his ashes in a very quiet area, where people only passed through by accident and close to the water.

Each brother had a private moment to say what they wanted to say to Master Splinter, with Leo being the last to pay his respects.

"We miss you sensei...we hope that you're happy, with mother...a lot has happened since you passed, a lot that I hope you would approve of and that you'd be happy for us." Leo said, looking out across the river before looking back at his three brothers who were waiting patiently for him. Mikey and Donnie were talking while they waited and Raphael's eyes were on him.

Their eyes met and Raph flashed his brother a reassuring smile which warmed Leo's heart. Leo took one last look out at the river before walking back to his brothers and the four made their way home. The first year without their father was hard but they knew that it would eventually get easier with time and the people they had around them.
