Chapter 6
Lionsnarl and Nightshade stayed with Dawnpaw all through the next night and day, worrying about her. Lionsnarl cared for Dawnpaw as if she was his own daughter, and would be devastated if she didn't survive. But on the second day, Dawnpaw still hadn't fully recovered.
I know we need to go out and help the clan, Lionsnarl thought. Lionsnarl was about to voice his opinion to Nightshade, when Stumpystar called for Clan Meeting from the Tall Rock. They both padded outside to see the clan gathered and Duskpaw being escorted out of the apprentice's den by Leopardspot. The Leaf Bare sun made Duskpaw's newly-groomed pelt shimmer.
"Today," Stumpystar began. "Is the day that this apprentice shall receive their warrior name." Nightshade smiled for the first time since Dawnpaw was injured, her icy blue eyes gleaming with surprise and pride.
"I, Stumpystar, leader of WindClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has worked hard to learn the ways of your noble code and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Duskpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, even at the cost of your life?" Just as Lionsnarl had been at his warrior ceremony, the words 'I Do' came clearly, without hesitation.
"Then, by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Duskpaw, from now on you shall be known as Duskshine. StarClan honors your intelligence and bravery." Stumpystar stepped forward, resting his head on Duskshine's head, who respectfully licked his leader's shoulder.
"Duskshine! Duskshine!" the clan called out his name. At least, everyone except Leopardspot. Thats strange, Lionsnarl thought. Duskshine was her apprentice. He didn't take much from it, instead padding back to the medicine den, to check on Dawnpaw.
