I don't own the Hunger Games. This trilogy belongs to Suzanne Collins.

Primrose crouched in the tree while thinking of what to do next. She had no food left in her pack so she'd prevented herself from starving by eating edible berries and plants. Her eyes surveyed the area. It had been a few days but it had been quiet the last few days. Prim knew that wasn't good from her times watching the games back home in District Twelve.

When things got quiet, the Capitol got bored. When the Capitol got bored her chance of survival lowered. The twelve year old was proven right when a fireball came whizzing by her face, barely missing her. Prims eyes widened in fear and she let out a squeak jumping from the tree narrowly missing another fireball. She hit the ground hard but got up and ran as fast as she could.

The fire spread behind her while fireballs kept whizzing at her trying to incinerate her. Prim kept running only to eventually trip. She let out a yell of pain as a fireball slammed into her shoulder. She squeezed her eyes shut at the pain but quickly forced her eyes back open. She got up and started running again. She didn't want to be burned alive.

Prims eyes filled with tears. Her shoulder was excruciating and the smell of her burned flesh smelled awful. It was only the blondes medic training that kept her from vomiting up what little she had eaten. Prim soon tripped again, this time landing in water. The fire stopped. She didn't have a break though because moments later she saw the careers plus her district partner.

The careers and Peeta stared at her and she stared back. The next moment she was up and sprinting with the pack laughing gleefully as they chase her. Prim sprinted to a tree and quickly began to scale it. All that was currently on her mind was not dying.

The careers gathered at the base of the tree. They all laughed as they thought she would be an easy kill. After all how much damage can a tiny twelve year old from the Seam in district twelve do?

"I got this." Glimmer said with a grin. She nocked an arrow and pulled the string back. Letting go of the arrow she fired barely missing her leg. Prim yanked the arrow out of the bark and kept climbing stopping on a high branch.

Where Katniss would have taunted Glimmer and the careers Prim did not. She looked down at the careers from her place in the tree. They were scowling. The district two boy eventually tried to climb up but do to his weight the branches broke and he fell back down to the ground as Prim knew he would.

"Get down here so we can kill you!" Cato shouted. He was angry that the pipsqueak twelve year old was out of reach. He was anxious to add another kill to his belt.

Prim said nothing. She stared down at them, arrow clutched tightly in her left hand.

"Guys, we don't have to knock her out of the tree." Peeta spoke up. The careers glare at him. "Just think about it. She has to come down at some point and when she does we'll kill her."

The careers can't deny Peeta has a point so they agree to that plan and make camp at the base of the tree.

Early the next morning Prim heard a sound that seemed off. The blonde opened her eyes and glanced around before they locked on familiar dark brown eyes on a youthful dark skinned face. Rue.

Prim smiled. She'd finally found her ally. Or rather her ally found her. Rue pointed upwards. Prim sent Rue a look of confusion only for Rue to flick her gaze up above Prims head. Prim followed the other girls gaze and her mouth went dry when she saw the tracker jacker nest.

There weren't many tracker jackers back in twelve but she's seen enough games with them to know what they're capable of. Prim looked at Rue again. Rue pointed to the nest then to the sleeping careers.

Prim nodded when she got the message. She carefully climbed up to the nest and eyes it. She didn't have the necessary means to saw the branch. Reaching out her foot she kicks the nest knocking it out of the tree and getting stung in the leg by a couple tracker jackers. The nest explodes when it hits the ground and the rage filled wasp mutations attack the careers. They're forced to run but Glimmer from district one and Marina from district four die from their stings.

Prim could feel the hallucinations take affect as the venom begins to do its job. She climbs down the tree thankfully without falling and stumbles off before succumbing to the stings. Luckily for Prim she's found by her ally who treats the stings unbeknownst to her.
