Abby woke with a start, her head spinning as she felt like it was splitting in half. The last thing she remembered was falling through a floor and then everything was fuzzy after that.

"Oh, you're awake." Lev says as he comes out of the kitchen.

"What happened?"

"You fell and hit your head. Ellie basically carried you out." He says, gesturing to where Ellie was laying on the opposite chair, her legs hanging over the arm. Abby painfully got up and went over to Ellie to get a better look at her. The girl's hair was unkempt and bruises and burns went all down her arms from where the shambler had body slammed her to the ground. Ellie's breathing was ragged as she was having great difficulty from pain in her ribs.

"She just fell asleep. She wouldn't let me look at her injuries or let me watch you so she could sleep."

"Well she looks like she was hit by a bus." Abby says, feeling the blistering acid burns on her arms.

"She had to lead a demon away from us."

Abby nodded as she looked between Lev and Ellie. Out of all people, she hadn't expected for Ellie to be the one to take care of her. This was very new to both of them and she half expected for Ellie to just leave her there to die. Neither girl particularly trusted the other in that regard. She was pretty sure the other girl only saved her because she felt obligated to.

"I thought you were going to die but she told me if that happened she'd make sure that I still got to the fireflies," he says, "I'm going out to hunt for food and look for supplies." He adds before turning to leave the house, making sure to grab his bow and arrow.

Ellie abruptly woke up when she heard the front door close and looked around on high alert, her green eyes settling on Abby, who had sat down on the couch again.

"Oh you're awake. You had Lev worried." She says as she sits up, ignoring the soreness in her whole body.

"Yeah and you too apparently."

"Well we're allies now and we should help each other."

"Well what happened to you? You look awful."

"Thanks." Ellie says sarcastically, "I had to hide you and Lev so I could lead a shambler away. Got burned by its acid cloud and then it slammed me to the ground." She explains, taking a sharp intake of breath as more pain shot through her.

"Hey grab my backpack."

Ellie did as Abby told her and dug through it for a little bit before finding bandages and burn gel.

"Here let me see. Sit down." Abby says, moving over on the couch.

"I'm fine." Ellie says, crossing her arms and not moving from where she stood.

"You're not fine. Now shut up, sit down, and let me see."

Ellie immediately sat down and let the older girl take her arms and start applying the burn gel on the girls arms and wrapping them in bandages.

"Okay, lift your shirt up."

"What?" Ellie asks, not sure if she heard correctly.

"Well you need to take care of your injuries too."

Ellie sighed, mumbling under her breath. The last thing she wanted was for someone that she was supposed to hate, touch her or administer first aid to her. She was convinced that she was fine. Ellie had worse injuries over the years and this was nothing compared to those.

"So you were going to travel with broken ribs?" Abby asks as Ellie took a sharp intake of breath when she touched a sore spot. Ellie felt as though she was being stabbed in the chest with each breath she took. The darker haired girl held her stomach, feeling worse as Abby pressed down on a spot that hurt worse.

"Are you trying to cause me more pain!?" She hissed through her teeth.

"Sorry I'm just trying to make sure you're not dying!" Abby snapped back, pressing down more gently until she hit a rib under a darker bruise.

Ellie hissed in more pain as she reached out and clutched Abby's thigh.

The two girls looked at each other, making direct eye contact.

"Sorry." Ellie says sheepishly, looking away again.

"It's fine. You have three broken ribs from what I could tell and some burns and bruises but you should make a full recovery." Abby says, taking the roll of bandages and wrapping it around the smaller girls stomach to try and keep the ribs stabilized.

"Well thank you."

"Well like you said. We're allies."

For the first time since she joined them, Ellie gave a genuine smile.
