Chapter 8: New adventures after New Year

The next morning was the perfect definition of the bad hangover as all "humans" who woke up felt a strong headache before they tried to sleep again. Lime and Videl woke up later on and noticed a still asleep Erasa as they found their way to the door. They saw the boys door open and spotted the absence of both half-Saiyans. As they went downstairs, the chimney was already lit but no one was to be found, before they heard noises coming from the outside. Without losing time, they wore their jackets and went to the source of the crashes. They were checking on one another's hangovers as they walked for around two minutes before Videl's words were cut short: Gohan and Mirai were sparring and Gohan had a tail. She could hear Mirai tell him "You are getting better. Got used to it?"
"Yeah. After Goten was able to tackle me, I thought it would be better to train it."
As Gohan did a backflip to avoid a punch, he noticed the girls watching them "Hey guys. You're up earlier than expected."
They didn't reply and he noticed their staring before he realized his tail was out "Uh. Hehe hey. So…"
With that Lime squealed "Dende it's real. Can I touch it please Gohan? I can't believe it really grew back. Mirai do you have one?"
"No I don't. And I don't think touching it would be the best thing now."
"Why?"
She didn't let him finish before she started to stroke it, making the teenager purr "You're purring, that is so cute."
He quickly regained his posture, blushing "Not funny Lime. Don't do that again."
"Will see mister." And she smirked at him.
Videl looked at him laughing as she asked "Why do you have a tail? Mirai should also have one? Did it grow or was it always there?"
Gohan sighed "It's genetic, yes Mirai could have one, and it grew back. No more questions."
"Oh! So it's like your hair color. So if someone strokes it, you purr (she couldn't stop laughing at the idea), but what happens if I grab it?"
He didn't have the time to stop her as she grabbed his tail making him grunt and fall on the ground "Shit! Videl let it go. Arghhh."
Both girls were surprised at the events before Mirai yelled "Videl focus! Loosen your grip he's gonna faint."
She immediately complied and as she loosened, Gohan regain his posture but his tail decided to slap the raven girl on her face "Hew. Not funny Gohan."
"Not my fault, it has a mind on his own."
He smirked at her glaring "I said no questions. And don't touch it."
He finished his statement by wrapping it around his waist as the teenagers made their way back to the cabin to get some breakfast before packing "How come you don't have a headache?"
"Our body is build differently than yours. We process alcohol easily."
"What are you? Alien or something."
They both looked at her surprisingly and she rose an eyebrow at them "You know I'm joking right?"
Both guys nodded as they found themselves in front of the cabin and they separated to wake up their still asleep friends.

While everyone was packing, Lime noticed Gohan was distracted and she told him to meet her outside "Hey what's up?"
"You should tell me, you look distracted. What's going on?"
"Huh? I'm not distracted."
"Gohan. You can't lie to me. What's bothering you?"
"Nothing really."
She glared at him "You want me to grab that tail of yours mister?"
She could feel him sweat as he sighed "Fine. If only I could cut it."
"Wouldn't that be painful?"
"Why do you think I don't want to. Anyways. What do you want me to tell you?"
"The truth. Easy."
"It's nothing. I was just thinking about many things. Honest."
"Don't start lying to me mister, you hear me. Now spill it? Is it your father?"
"No, he's fine. Still not coming back though. If I told you, you will not scream?"
"I can't promise that."
He rolled his eyes at her smirking before he took a deep breath "Is it bad that I actually enjoyed what happened yesterday?"
"You have to be more specific. A lot happened yesterday. And yeah, even if you're part alien, your human part is a teenager who would enjoy having fun."
"No yeah I know. I meant the part involving Videl."
He heard her squeal as he covered his ears "You have a thing for Videl. Kami I can't believe it. Somebody pinch me."
"I told you not to scream. And no I do not have a thing for her. I enjoyed the act. Do you think it's a Saiyan thing?"
"I am no Saiyan so I can't help you. And don't lie, I don't think you only liked the act."
"Care to explain. You said it yourself that I am a teenager."
"Don't twist my words, you know what I meant. Look, it's normal that you would appreciate that, but I think the person involved with you can matter. I don't think you would have enjoyed it as much if it were Erasa for example or any other girl in our class. And the clear disgust you have on your face proved my point. You liked the act because you like the person involved in it."
"I don't think you make sense. We can't even stand on another for five minutes. When and why did I start liking her?"
"Well, you can't stand her for five minutes. She, on the other hand, is trying to be your friend. And you have to ask yourself that question, I don't know. And what do you mean I don't make sense."
"Huh, I don't know. Let's head back."
"You and I are gonna have a long discussion mister." He sighed as they entered back and ignore the questioning look on their classmate's face.
Erasa elbowed Videl and whispered "What do you think he did this time?"
"How should I know? I don't pass my days with him." Erasa sighed, not content that her curiosity won't be appeased, but she noticed the light blush present on Gohan's face and couldn't but noticed how tense he got and how he tried to avoid looking around him. She smirked at him Something definitely happened. I can bet it involves a certain make out session.

The group of friend made sure everything was in place before they closed up the house and waved goodbye at each other, each group heading back to its respective city.

The winter vacations past and soon, the beautiful white scenery covering the 439 Mountains Area was gone, meaning that the Son family was able to come back their cozy little house. The family enjoyed the peace of the area as the three children were playing together. Gohan always found a way to incorporate training into the games to prepare the kids for any danger and to please their Saiyan side. He promised himself he wouldn't let them fight, but he deemed necessary they could protect themselves in case anything were to happen to him. His mother noticed a change in his character and decided to talk to him after putting the kids to sleep. Soon enough, it was diner time and the twins went to bed "Night mommy, night big brother."
"Good night my babies."
Chi-Chi prepared two cups of hot chocolate before she found her son meditating in the living room "Gohan. Can we talk?"
"Sure mom."
"What happened to you? You seem calmer. Did anything happen at the cabin?"
"What do you mean. I'm always like this."
"No. I mean you seem less angry. And I don't think that filthy tail of yours is the reason."
"Thank you mom, I appreciate the comment. I guess the meditation is working."
"Ahh…" Chi-Chi looked at him, clearly not convinced, before they continued their beverage in silence.
Soon after, Gohan spoke "Mom. Is it normal that I might enjoy let's say, how do I put it, intimate gestures?"
"Gohan. Did anything happen at the cabin?"
"No! I mean yes. Sort of, I don't know."
"Young man, you have ten seconds."
He told her everything that happened and before he understood what happened, he could see stars in his mother's eyes "Oh my baby is growing."
"MOM!"
"Don't you mom me mister." And the infamous frying pan appeared in her hand as she smashed his head
"Sorry, Mom. Could you please help me understand?"
"Well, I agree with Lime on that one. It sure seems you are appreciating Videl a little more."
"No way. She is the last person I can tolerate."
"Look, Gohan. You are no better than your father when it comes to girl. You will notice on your own. And you need to stop associating the girl to her father. From what I've seen, she isn't a bad person. I found her sweet and intelligent. So stop searching for a reason to fight with her. I'm not telling you to fall in love with her, but you could at least become her friend. You might learn a thing or two from her. Now to bed young man, you have school tomorrow. We will talk another time."
He sighed and went to sleep, nervous about the new school term that was about to start.

The half-Saiyan reached the roof of the school and found his best friends waiting for him and they all found their way to their classroom. They located their usual places and were soon joined by the whole group, happy to see each other after the vacations. After they caught up on everything, a new teacher entered the room; she was a middle-aged woman, with brown hair and blue eyes, and wearing a light brown ensemble, reflecting her eyes. "Good morning class, my name is Ichigo Tamayaki and I will be your social studies teacher this term." She explained how the class was going to proceed before she told them to form groups of five and choose by the end of the month one of the two topics to be presented at the end of the semester: 'Identity' or 'people and the environment'. The group of friends found themselves easily, content that Sharpner preferred to work with his boxing club friends.

The first two weeks passed easily. The same routine was gaining the group with Videl leaving to fight criminals while Gohan kept a close eye on her from afar, ready to intervene any time. Lime, Erasa and Videl started training with Mirai in order to fly, but the first two quickly stopped, claiming it was too hard for them. Eventually, Mirai hit a wall as he didn't know how to continue Videl's training and he proposed that they went the following weekend to Gohan's place to ask for help. The weekend came eventually as both fighters found their way to the 439 area. Videl was amazed by the beautiful scenery around her, noticing how much it was peaceful and how clean the air was. And after what seemed like an eternity, they finally found the little house. How fast can Gohan fly if he lives this far away. I know he is strong, but I didn't imagine this much. The duo of friends found Krillin and his family visiting the family and drinking coffee with Chi-Chi keeping an eye at Marron and Hina playing. They greeted them and asked about Gohan's whereabouts "He is somewhere with Piccolo in the forest." Piccolo? Where did I hear this name before? Videl followed Mirai and went pale as she noticed the giant green alien in front of her, sparring with a topless Gohan. She blushed at the sight before she regain her composure Wow. I don't remember him being this ripped when we were at CC. Not the time Videl. It looks like his left hand is better. It's not as weak as before. Her trail of ideas were cut when she saw Piccolo grab his tail, she closed her eyes remembering the pain it caused when she did that and she heard the half-Saiyan scream "Arghh. Not fair Piccolo. We said no grabbing of the tail."
"Sorry kid, you have to learn to overcome this weak spot. You worked on your hand but forgot about that. It's enough for today, you have company."
He released his grip and the fighter noticed his friends watching him "Hey. What are you doing here?"
"I need your help with her training."
"I told you I don't train people. Sorry bro, ask someone else."
Both Mirai and Videl sighed at the response before they made their way back to the Son house. On their way, Gohan heard his father talking to them and he stepped back, waiting for his friends to leave. Hey Dad.
Son. The Kais told me you need to train more. Something bad is approaching and we need to be ready.
Something like what?
I don't know Son. But it seems bad. Gohan continued his conversation with his father, hoping to get a little more details.

Meanwhile, Mirai, Piccolo and Videl found their way back to the others and Videl overheard the name of Goku. The high schoolers knew little about Gohan's dad, his face always darkening at his mention and Lime told them he was absent for the moment. They thought that he had left the house, but she told them he wouldn't do it and loved his family but had matters outside the country and should be back soon. She thought it was the perfect opportunity to learn more on the subject but she only heard old stories Krillin told about their childhood. She looked at the man again before she remembered him "Wait. Are you the Krillin that participated in the 21st to 23rd WMAT?"
"Well, I didn't think people still remembered these old days."
"Wow. Wait you were at the Cell Games. And you too."
She then pointed at Piccolo before she remembered something else "You are King Piccolo. Finalist of the 23rdtournament."
Krillin looked at her and chuckled "You surely know your history. But he isn't King Piccolo. They are related though."
With that, Chi-Chi and Krillin told her all about these past events, omitting the fact that Piccolo tried to kill Goku, before they saw Goten and Lime arrive on Nimbus. Videl looked at the golden cloud with eyes bigger than her stomach "Umm. What is that?"
Mirai chuckled "Hey Lime. You didn't tell me you were coming."
"Neither did you mister. Hey everyone. Hey Videl. This is the flying Nimbus. It's a heirloom the Son have. Goten and Hina use it to fly and Goten took me with him since he was leaving CC."
"With everything I've seen so far with you guys, I can believe anything."
They all laughed before they saw Gohan running towards them. He told them that his dad spoke with him and he needed to train more. His mom looked at him "Wait, so you are going to the Lookout to train?"
"No mom. I just spoke to Bulma and I borrowed a ship for two weeks. I think it's better I go to space."
"WHAT!" She hit him with her pan to Videl's surprise. After a lot of convincing, his mother gave up and the fighter went to retrieve his stuff for his trip.

Two weeks passed quickly. Videl asked Krillin for help in her training and she was now able to control her Ki and sense it a little; however, she was not able to fly yet, though Krillin assured her it would be soon. Gohan came back from space and decided to inform Vegeta and Mirai of the situation and told them they needed a constant training regimen before he was scolded by the Prince "I don't need your opinion brat." Erasa decided to celebrate Gohan's return by going to a club, claiming it would be the best way to celebrate and to introduce him to her new boyfriend Ryo. The teenagers decided to meet on Saturday evening in Satan City, claiming it would be safer for the girls to get back home. The boys were wearing tight jeans and a shirt with hiked up sleeves; and to everyone's ignorance, noise canceling earbuds made specially for their Saiyan's hearing, courtesy of Bulma. Lime was wearing a dress emphasizing her curves, Erasa was wearing a skirt and very reveling shirt, and Videl came in tight jeans and a sexy blouse, courtesy of Erasa. Erasa introduced them to her boyfriend, he was the basketball team captain and was fairly tall with brown hair and eyes. They were all having a good time dancing and drinking. At around 1 in the morning, the girls were dancing together while the boys were chatting, betting who between Ryo and Sharpner could drink more shots in a minute. Mirai looked towards his girlfriend smiling at her before he noticed a strange guy approaching them. He didn't say anything and kept watching as he noticed said guy talking with Videl, while disgust clearly showed on her face. He elbowed Gohan, distracting him from the guys' contest, and waved in the girls' direction. His eyes turned teal when he saw the man and he approached the girls just at the moment where the guy tried to grab the raven-girl by her waist "Do you mind. It's my girlfriend you are hitting on. If you want us to be friends I suggest you leave. Now."
The guy glared at him "Com' on mate. Sur' we can share. We all deserve a little fun."
He smelled the alcohol in his breath as he approached him "You leave. Now."
His eyes went teal again and the man removed his hand, cursing at him before leaving.
The girls looked at him leaving and Erasa commented "People can get more disgusting, that's reassuring. You okay Vi?"
"Yeah. I didn't need your help Gohan. But thank you anyway."
"Wow you can still be annoying, even when we help you."
"Excuse me. I didn't ask for help."
Lime intervened quickly before things escalated "That's enough you two. Let's find the guys and enjoy our evening. You mister, I need to talk to you."
They could hear him mumble under his breath 'what did I do this time, Kami.' They laughed as they reached their table before Erasa looked at Videl "So… Gohan's girlfriend…"
She smirked when she saw her blush "Kami. I'm gonna have so much fun." She laughed as her friend's cursing before reaching the boys.

Lime and Gohan stood outside the bar "Kami, it's so refreshing here. How can people tolerate these places."
"I know. Try supporting the smells with my senses."
"I don't envy you. Wanna tell me what happened back there?"
"Oh come on. She started the fight this time you saw that too. How is it my fault?"
"I am not talking about that, although you both commented so it's your fault both. I was asking about the whole girlfriend thing."
He blushed when he remembered the label he used, his tail now waving in all directions "Well… umm… I don't know… it sorta came out I guess."
"Oh Gohan you are blushing. Dende it's so cute, you actually have feelings for her."
"No! I just thought it was the best thing to say for him to back out."
"Regardless, don't lie to me Gohan. I know why you said that and it parted from a good intention. I just know you well and I know there's more. I'm waiting."
He sighed before he looked at her "Fine. When I was on the planet training. I noticed that I actually missed her. I remembered what you said and put two and two together. You were right, I'm starting to like her."
She squealed at the news, with stars in her eyes "Gohan I am so happy. You finally let your guard down. I'm gonna need all the details. You and I are gonna have a long conversation next time I visit. I guess our old spot near the river misses us."
They laughed at the old memories before she hugged him "Don't worry Gohan. I promise you, nothing is gonna happen. I am here to help you."
"Thank you."
"Don't forget you tail."
She giggled, never thinking she would actually use this sentence in her life as they got back inside and continued their hang out before they decided it was best to head back home. The next day, Gohan woke up and found a text from Videl 'Sorry for yesterday. And thank you for what you did.' He smiled before he replied 'sure thing, no prob. That's what friends are for.' And he went on to start his day.

Anyone that saw Mirai, Lime and Gohan couldn't differentiate them from a normal group of friends. However, since the two boys were half alien and descended from a race who valued honor and pride as much as fighting, needless to say that they loved competing, while Lime enjoyed making bets on the winner. To Gohan's horror, he happened to lose the last one and his friends made sure to keep their winning ticket under their sleeves.

It was no surprises that one of the most loved period of high school students was Valentine's, and the students' board made sure to decorate the whole school for the occasion and planned many events during the day, involving everything from roses distribution to valentine's proposals. The group of friends was making their way through the hall, trying to find their classmates' lockers. They arrived and saw Erasa and Ryo talking while Videl was retrieving her books "Hey guys." Erasa hugged them all and asked them about their weekends, per usual. Gohan left the conversation to greet Videl but noticed a guy from the boxing team talk to her. He didn't need to get close to her since he had a Saiyan's hearing and eavesdropped "Videl. Do you have anything planned tonight? I thought maybe you and I could go grab diner together, if you know what I mean."
"Get lost Nick."
"Come on. Gimme a chance."
Their conversation got interrupted by a certain unhappy teenager "She told you to get lost. Don't you get it."
"I don't remember asking for your opinion nerd. Now let the grownups talk."
"Let me repeat again, maybe that brainless head of yours will understand. Leave. Her. Alone."
The boxer glared at him preparing a punch before he saw Sharpner coming their way; he glared at the boy before he cursed and left. "Videl. Did that jerk try anything? If he did, trust me his face will remember my fist."
She moved her head from left to right before glaring at Gohan "How many times do I have to tell you that I don't need your help. I can perfectly defend myself. I've been doing it since before you even showed up."
"A thank you would have been nice. I was just trying to help."
"I don't need anybody's help, specially not yours."
A tear threatened to fall as she ran towards the exit. The half-Saiyan turned to his friends who smiled lightly at him before Erasa broke the silence "Don't worry Gohan. It's not your fault. This always happens and it brings back bad memories. Don't take it personally."
He nodded at her, with worry showing on his face and Lime spoke just like she was reading his mind "Shouldn't we check on her?"
"She went home. She always found a way to leave school early. I guess it's better we leave her alone today."
The village girl nodded at her, remembering really well the story Erasa told her, before the bell rang signaling the start of the day. During the lunch break, Erasa told her friends she was passing the day with Ryo, and they understood the situation. They were all talking together before Gohan's nightmare became reality as Mirai spoke "So Gohan. Lime and I found the perfect dare for you. You have the choice between asking Videl out tonight to diner or get her a Valentine's gift."
"WHAT!"
"Come on Gohan. You obviously like her. It's the perfect opportunity."
Lime looked at him "It's not what we discussed. Look, I thought that it would cheer her up if she got out today, but it won't make sense if it's us. And since I know you think it's partially your fault she left early, I thought it would be nice."
"No way. I can't take her out. She won't even accept. I'm not making a fool of myself."
Mirai smirked at his friend "So you do like her."
"I didn't say that. Not the issue here."
"But you didn't deny it."
Gohan glared at the smirking half-Saiyan before he turned his attention to the girl of the group "What do you want me to do? And why me?"
Lime looked at her best friend smiling "Look, I know the girl better than you. And I know stuff you certainly don't. My guess is she felt she is made fun off. It's a long story and I think you should hear it from her. Organize a small surprise, a small reservation. Tell her it's for her to have fun and change her mood. Don't go all out, it's not a date. Just something nice to tell her she's not alone. It will make her feel good trust me."
"What if she says no?"
"I don't think she will. And you can't know if you don't try."
He blushed at the thought and made his usual grin before he started to think. Mirai smirked at him "And that's my way of getting revenge on the Takahashi's. I hope you didn't forget the embarrassment I felt that night."
"Come on. I thought you forgot about that."
"Nope mister, not at all. It was your fault my boyfriend woke up with a thousand message from the girl, asking him out. That'll teach you."
He sighed and looked at his smirking friends, cursing at the prank he did.

The night fell faster than expected as a certain demi-Saiyan was trying to get ready. He wore beige pants with black boots and shirt and held in his hand two bags, one of them he hid in his jacket's pocket. If she will enjoy the night I will give it to her. No need to make a fool out of myself from the start. He made his way into the night sky of Satan City reaching the gates of the Satan manor and buzzed on the intercom "Hello. How can I help you?"
"Umm, hello. Is Videl here?"
"Ms. Satan is in her room. Who wishes to speak with her?"
"A friend from school."
He waited for two minutes before he saw the door open and a man invited him to enter. He lived his entire life at CC but he never saw something as flagrant as Satan's manor. One thing was for sure, the world champion loved the luxury life and it showed by the several expensive painting hung on the walls, numerous statues distributed alongside the interior and very expensive furniture that were found in the rooms at his left and right. The butler gestured towards the living room. He waited a few moments, looking at the bag he held in his hand before he heard footsteps behind him and saw Videl entering, wearing tight leggings and a light blue shirt. Wow I remember from the pool that she has a nice body. I wonder why she always wears baggy shirts at school. "Thank you George."
"Can I get you anything Miss?"
"No, thank you very much. Could you leave us please?"
The butler bowed at her and left "Gohan? What brings you here? And why are you dressed like this?"
"Umm hey Videl… umm."
She noticed his blush as he did his usual grin "What's going on Gohan?"
"I was wondering if you would like to go to out to dinner with me?"
"Dinner with you? Why?"
She noticed what she said and quickly adjusted her sentence "Kami that sounded harsh I'm sorry. I meant I was not expecting that. What's the reason?"
"Um. Nothing. I just thought that everyone was out tonight, why not have a small night out together."
"That's very sweet Gohan thank you. But I can't. I don't usually go out on this night. Besides, all the restaurant would want a dress code and I don't think I have anything appropriate to wear. I'm sorry."
"Well, Umm… I got you this."
He handed her the bag and she noticed a light black dress inside "Gohan what was that for? You really didn't need to."
"I know. I just thought that I came last minute so the proper thing was to give you a small gift. It's nothing fancy and you don't need to wear it, I just saw it and thought you would look pretty in it."
They both blushed at the comment before an awkward silence filled the room. Gohan looked at her then said "I'm gonna go. I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I'll see you at school."
"Wait! You don't mind waiting for me to change?"
He smiled at her "Sure."
She took the bag and went to her room to change. Kami what just happened? Is he seriously taking me to diner tonight? If Erasa is behind this I am going to kill her. And he really thinks I'm pretty? No he said I would look pretty in the dress, not all the time. A million ideas rushed her mind while she changed. She sent a text to Erasa 'Planning something?'
'Vi? What do you mean? Did something happen?'
'Nvm. Enjoy your date.'
She let go of her hair, letting it float on her shoulders as she wore the dress Gohan gave her with light white sneakers and took a denim jacket from her closet. When Gohan saw her, he couldn't get her eyes off of her. She is gorgeous. "Wow Videl. You look stunning." She blushed at the comment as they made their way towards the exit and to the restaurant.

The restaurant wasn't very fancy since Gohan couldn't afford anything expensive. He looked at Videl who was smiling at him before he held the chair for her to sit and ordered the food "Not gonna order the whole menu?"
"No. I ate before I came. I didn't want to embarrass you."
She blushed at the comment before smiling at him "Don't worry Gohan. Let's have fun. I know we never sat alone together, but I'm sure it can be this bad."
They were both amazed at how easily the conversation was flowing and Videl couldn't help but notice Gohan's attitude; he was shy and restricted, which was opposed to his usual self. Lime was right. He really is the sweetest when you get to know him. I never imagined him this shy. She didn't stop smiling at him as he tried to find conversation topics, his usual grin still going. They laughed at Gohan who was trying to eat his food at a human pace and he couldn't stop smiling when he saw how happy she was. At the end, they asked for the check but before he was able to pay, Videl stopped him "My treat. As a way to thank you for getting me out of the house."
"No. I'm inviting you. I don't want people telling that I'm the guy who let girls pay."
"Gohan. Come on. Let us at least split. You already got me the dress."
"It's okay. The dress was nothing really. It was just a spur of the moment thing. I saw it when I went to buy this shirt and said why not."
"Wait, you bought the shirt specially for tonight? Why?"
"I had to try and look nice. I said it before, I don't want to embarrass you in public."
They smiled at each other and he paid the check but as they made their way towards the exit, they failed to notice a couple from their school who recognized them instantly. When they made their way outside, Gohan looked at her "Do you want to go for a walk? I know a nice place with an amazing view not far from here." She nodded in agreement and they started walking in a weirdly comfortable silence.

They reached the place Gohan was talking about and they could see several villages from afar, illuminated in a breathtaking scenery. She looked at him and smiled as he was contemplating the sight. "Thank you, Gohan."
"Huh?"
"Thank you for the night out. I needed it. That was really sweet of you. And this place is really beautiful."
"You're welcome. I figured you'd feel better if you got out of the house. At least you'll know you're not alone."
He smiled at her and started flipping the smaller bag in his pocket but she talked before he could take it out "Why do you think you would embarrass me?"
"Huh?"
"You said it twice at the restaurant. Why would you think that? I remember Lime also saying that once about you. It's like a constant fear you have."
"Uhh… actually. I don't usually go to this type of restaurants so I was afraid I don't behave right or something. I lived far in the mountains, so this whole civilized deal is really new for me."
She smiled at him "Gohan, you can't embarrass me, don't worry."
He smiled back and kept his hand in his pocket. Guess I could try. Maybe she will like it. "I, umm… actually have one last thing to show you."
He removed his hand from his pocket and retrieved the smaller bag "Open it".
She looked at him before she unwrapped it and saw a small pearl necklace "Gohan! You didn't need to. No this is too much I can't accept that."
"Videl please. It's my way to excuse myself."
"What?"
"Well huh… for starters, the way I treated you in the past. It took me a while to notice my mistakes. There is also the Tao incident. I wasn't behaving like the partner you needed and I was angry at myself and I let it out on you. And finally for today and last time at the bar, I interfered in your business and had no right. That should sum it up I guess, I lost count."
"Gohan. You don't need to excuse yourself. You were angry at my dad for the way he talked about you guys. Now that I've seen what Ki can do, I understand more your anger when he trash talked your friends and especially your dad. And why would you apologize for something that was clearly my fault? I was the one at wrong because I didn't listen and almost got you killed. And you clearly shouldn't apologize for standing up for me. I am angry at myself because of past things, but it wasn't right to take it out on you."
They smiled at each other as peaceful silence reigned for a moment before Gohan broke it "I hope you enjoyed tonight. I'm sorry if it wasn't much. I know you are used to more expensive dresses or gifts and restaurants, but truth is I don't really have that much money, so I tried to make the best of it. I hope you liked it."
She looked at him speechless before she wrapped her arms around his waist embracing him "Thank you."
A tear threatened to fall as he hugged her back "I don't need fancy dresses or restaurants to have fun. Your company is more than enough. I really had a wonderful time tonight. Thank you again."
"I'm glad. And when you feel ready, do you think you can tell me what is the issue at school?"
She smiled at him lightly, broking the embrace and looked again at the scenery "Walk me back home?"
He nodded at her as they made their way back to Satan's manor while Videl opened up to Gohan. She told him everything about Dave and the still ongoing bet at school leading to her father's rule. Gohan was disgusted at the story and how people were treating her, but was amazed at Mr. Satan. Maybe he isn't that bad after all. Sure he is dumb and egocentric, but he surely protects his daughter. He might be a decent man after all. Videl was happy that she could confide in Gohan, a strange feeling of safety taking over her and she could feel her heart beat faster every time he smiled "So that's why you wear baggy clothes. I thought first it's what you always wear. Then I wondered when I saw you at your house."
She blushed at the comment and nodded her head in agreement. "Yes. I wear them to avoid getting the attention more than I already have. It can easily hid my body, so people can't check me out all the time. I tell people it's easier with the police. Maybe everyone will stop looking at me like a prize to win."
"I can't believe people can be so sick. I am glad that I lived in the mountains for once."
She laughed at his comment "Thank you Gohan. I had a nice time tonight. You were right, it felt good to go out."
"Anytime. I'm happy you feel better. It was partly my fault that you were angry today, so I thought it would be a good way to excuse myself"
He redid his father's grin when he saw her smile and couldn't help but reciprocate. She is gorgeous when she smiles. And she really has beautiful eyes. He felt the blood rush to his head as she held him in a tight embrace whispering "Thank you again". He hugged her back and after a minute, she loosened her grip and waved goodbye before entering her house, her mind filled with a thousand thoughts and emotions. He is perfect. I never thought that Gohan could actually be this shy, it's weird to see him like this. Her trail of ideas was cut short when she heard someone cough behind her. She turned around and noticed a very angry Mr. Satan looking at her "Where were you young lady? What did I say about boys?"

A/N: eighth chapter done.

Gohan's character began to evolve and I thought it was time to get them closer together. I also wanted to incorporate Chi-Chi's opinion. And Goku will appear soon enough along the new threat. I hope it was a good character development.

I'm sorry if the chapters are getting longer but I found it unnecessary to divide them into smaller chapters. It's more concise this way and better than having many short chapters.
