Chapter 16

In an Unknown location

Two blue eyes fluttered open, Scanning the terrain around them. After surveying the area, the little boy with the ocean blue eyes stood up. He took a deep breath and yawned.

"H-Hello?"

He called out into the forest. No one answered. He started to walk, stepping over tree roots and puddles.

"Hello!" He called out again, hoping someone was there. A small rabbit scurried out in front of him.

"Hello there." He sat down on some moss. "Come!"

The rabbit approached him. "I'm not gonna hurt ya," he said.

It came a bit closer, and the boy reached out to pet it. Once he put his hand out, the rabbit became struck with fear and ran.

"Wait!!" He called and started to chase it. They came to a clearing near a lake. The boy stopped when he saw the sights in front of him. The water stretched out for miles, and a mountain stood in front of him, covered in trees. He looked down in the water and saw his reflection. He was hit with a sense of familiarity. He suddenly began to have a severe headache, and he held his head in his hands. Then a sound that was like a crack of lightning rang through his ears. He looked up and spoke in a language he wasn't even sure he understood.

"Jag heter… Sverige?"

In the now deceased England's house

"Damn him!" Canada growled.

His anger boiled over and he kicked the chair across from England's desk. Scotland had driven himself and Wales to the hospital to be with Ireland, so Canada was all alone.

"He is such a- censored!!" He picked up England's body and carried him out to his room. He passed Portugal in the hall.

"Inglaterra…" He put his hand on England's shoulder. And closed his eyes and took a deep breath, taking in the pain of losing his long time friend. After about a minute, he looked at Canada.

"Are we going to get the police?"

"Soon. I'll have him sent to my country first."

Portugal nodded and let Canada upstairs. He put the body on the bed and cleaned up some of the blood.

"Mathieu?"

France entered the room. "Oh god! Angleterre!" He rushed over to the bed. "How did this happen!? You said you had everything under control, Canada!!"

"It wasn't the plan… he sacrificed himself to get someone back."

"Are you sure that will even work?!? Who is it!?"

"Sweden. He asked Sealand who he should bring back."

"Mon Dieu, I need to sit." he sat on the floor at the edge of the bed and motioned for Canada to sit next to him. "What are you going to do now?"

"I have to protect the next target."

"Who could it be?"

"Well, we heard from Russia that the targets were him, England, and Japan. We detected him moving toward Spain, though we didn't know he was necessarily a target, same with Sweden and Finland."

France shook his head. "This is not good. If he gains too much territory he will become too powerful."

"I still think I can help him, Papa. Our Alfred is still in there, he's gotta be."

"And what makes you think that?"

"I just… know. I can feel him struggling."

France patted him on the shoulder. "I hope so, Mathieu, I hope so." France definitely did not feel as optimistic.

"Canada!!" Prussia walked into the room with Germany and Italy. He was covered head to toe in trash and car oil.

"Mon ami, what in God's name have you been up too?!"

Prussia laughed. "I sabotaged America's car!! In about 10 minutes, it should come to a stop!"

"And what of the trash?"

"Oh, I hid in the garbage!!" He said with a smile, picking a piece of plastic off his shoulder.

"Why isn't he dead, Canada?" Italy flatly asked.

"We tried. Belgium and Ireland are paying for their attempts on his life as we speak."

Italy nodded and sighed. "I guess… I should make some pasta for them."

"You don't hav-"

"No," Italy stopped him. "I do. Romano would tell me to not be a useless idiot, so I guess I won't be." He walked out of the room and walked downstairs.

"I hate to see him like this," Germany mumbled. "He wasn't even like this during the war."

"There was only one time the Awesome me saw him like this, that was when Holy Rome died!" Prussia added.

"Holy...Rome…" Germany muttered. "Have I heard of them before??"

"NO!" Prussia yelled. Everyone but France looked at him in confusion. "Um... No, you haven't."

"Ok then… I'm going with Italy…" Germany left the three alone.

"That was very close, Gilbert!! You need to be more careful!" France scolded.

"I know! You don't need to remind me!!" Prussia snapped. A hand tapped his shoulder, making him jump. "Who dares- Oh, it's just you, cold guy!"

Norway stood in the doorway behind Prussia. "Matthew, I would like to know about Sve." He inquired.

"Of course. Contrary to our plan, England decided to give his life in an exchange for Swedish independence."

"So Sweden should be revived?"

"In some way or another. A personification was created, and I am pretty sure it was Berwald. I don't know what he will be like though." Norway nodded.

"I and my family will go find him if that's alright with you."

"Yes, that would be best. The next probable target is Japan, so I'll send half of us to China's house, and the rest will go to the European safe place."

"Thank you." Norway walked to the edge of the bed. "Can Austria and Hungary give orders for where Arthur will be buried?"

"Yes, I contacted them."

"I can handle it then" Norway put his hands on England's arm and started to whisper a spell. Within seconds, the body disappeared, all that remained was a bloody puddle on the bed.

"Er, that works as well. Oh! Arthur said to give this to you." Canada pulled a crumpled note out of his inner coat pocket and handed it to him. Norway overlooked the note, and his eyes widened.

"This is very important. One part is personally for me, but the other, I should tell you. If there is a country that is about to die, the one who delivers the finishing blow is the one who takes the land. There might come a point where you need to kill to survive."

Canada shuddered. "So he has Finland and England right now… I'm going to get everyone downstairs. France, please call Netherlands and tell him about what Nor said, just in case." France nodded and walked out of the room, followed by Norway.

"I will go get Matthias and Peter." He said on his way out. Prussia walked over to Canada and helped him to his feet.

"Don't worry, Matthew!" He gave a bright smile. "Your awesome, like me!! You got this!"

Norway sighed at the sight of the locked door.

"Den, let me in."

Shuffling could be heard from behind the door. The door swung open, revealing Denmark with his ax, ready to slice Norway in half.

"Put that down. He's gone."

Denmark's grip relaxed and he set it up against the wall. Norway walked inside.

"I'm gonna kill him, Lukas. He is tearing Peter apart!!" Denmark growled. Norway grabbed his hand and squeezed it.

"Don't lose your cool. The chance will come, then things will get better. Not all hope is lost. If we have Sve, we definitely have a chance of winning."

"Nor," Iceland stood in the doorway. "I need to ask you something." Norway turned his attention to his brother.

"I'm listening."

"I want to go to China with the rest."

"And why is that?" Norway said sharply. Iceland looked down at the floor, not looking at his brother's deathly stare.

"I have to go for Leon-"

"Out of the question, Emil. You stay with the family."

"Leon is family. He needs me!"

"I will not let my lillebror leave me at a time like this!!" He started to raise his voice.

"Don't use your 'big brother' tactics to stop me, Norge!!" Iceland similarly increased his volume.

"Sve and Fin would put you first, Emil!!" Norway shouted.

"Leon would do the same for me!!"

The two brothers stared each other down, their breathing heavy.

"You said it was all in the life of a country, well Leon is a country and so am I and I'm gonna do my best to defend him! He's all I have other than you, Norge. He's never left me."

Iceland's tone lived up to his name, the words hitting Norway like icicles. His eyes darted around the room, his normally composed expression replaced by one of worry and pain.

"Nor, I-I didn't mean it like that…"

Norway walked over to the window and cleared his throat.

"Then go."

"Nor, I'm-"

"IF YOU'RE GOING TO LEAVE, THEN LEAVE EMIL!!"

Iceland stood up, taken back. "I… will go tell Matthew." He walked out, guilty, but strong. Denmark, who was standing awkwardly throughout their interaction, walked over to the closet, opened it, and got on his knees.

"Sea, he's gone, come out, come out."

Two fearful blue eyes peeked out over a red and white quilt.

"You sure?"

"Of course!! I wouldn't lie to you, Sea!"

He picked up his nephew. "Matthias, did it work?! Did America bring Papa back?!"

"I think so, us and Nor are gonna check!" He gave a hopeful smile, but his voice was filled with uncertainty.

"Emil isn't coming with us though?"

"Ahh… yeah, he's gonna go find Hong Kong!! He'll come back ASAP though!"

"Alright, Let's go!!"

At America's house, in the late morning

The USSR had started the day in silence. No one wanted to speak or felt the need to. They had found the other pieces, three in the room. The red ones had been in the roses and the ashes in the fireplace, while two blue ones had been in the back of the previous room's tv remote and one in the grandfather clock. The white one had been upstairs, of course. Poland had done a more than decent job fixing it, so they most likely wouldn't have had a problem with it. The accomplishment didn't feel nearly as satisfying as the previous though.

One by one, each member followed Russia down the stairs into the room. He put the tiles in their correct place, and the wall component made a beeping sound and a click. Russia cautiously opened the door, but when the arrow came flying at him, he dodged it with ease from being shot at multiple times before.

"Look at this, how interesting."

The room's walls were no different to the first one, and a cheap light hung down from the ceiling over a table… well, more like a counter, because it was connected to the floor in the middle, allowing electrical components to be fed through it. There was what looked to be a board game on it. Each of them took a seat on a stool around the table. The board game looked to be Monopoly-like, with a jail and a bank and all that, with three key differences.

One was that all the small game pieces looked like them, and the houses and hotels looked like little villages and castles. A little piece that looked like America was already on the start.

Two, there was an IPad in the middle of the table.

And three, instead of the usual properties, like the Boardwalk and the Railroads, each of the available properties were named after places in their homelands.

"I'll turn this thing on." With a few button presses, Estonia opened up the IPad. On the open tab was a video, which began to play. America was sitting at his desk, with his feet up and his back reclining on his chair, he gave his typical smirk.

"Made it far, didn't you? Well, this is your last challenge. Make it through these doors, you get to see Lithuania. If not… well, then our fun would all be over, wouldn't it? Let me tell you how this works. Each person has a personalized piece. Like a typical game of Monopoly, you go around the board collecting money and building properties. My little "twist" is that each of the properties is a piece of your land, and whoever buys it gains that land. There is a 3 hour time limit to this game, so once the times up we will count the amount of money and properties that you all own, and if one of you beats my automatic player, you get to see Lithuania. If not, I get all of your land and you all die. Up for my challenge?" Deathly silence filled the room. Their land and citizens were the most important thing in the world to them, how could anyone ask them to give it up?

"I… accept." Belarus took her piece and set it on the start.

"I will as well."

"Yes, of course."

"Ha, this will be easy."

Estonia, Ukraine, and Poland set down their pieces.

"There is no other choice." Latvia set his down as well. They all turned to Russia, who had more land and people than all of them. He had the most to lose. Taking a shaky deep breath, he grabbed his piece and set it on the board.

"Let the game begin."
