"… anyway, I don't think she's ever going to want to speak to me again, let alone go out with me. And I know it was seriously dumb of me to tell a lie THAT big, but- "
"- But you were in love." Tony nodded in understanding, "I can't believe you've grown up so fast… and to think, I almost missed it… I can't believe my own son has been running around in a suit that shabby though!"
Peter practically quivered with excitement at the thought of getting a proper Spiderman suit, "So… how are we going to reunite the Avengers?"
"Let's focusing on getting Steve in the same room as me so we can have a civil conversation." Tony winced, "Poor choice of words."
Peter couldn't help but chuckle at the unfortunate words, glancing away from his Father for a moment… only to freeze.
Off in the distance, the river stopped, dipping down… which could only mean one thing.
Waterfall.
"Shit! JARVIS!" Tony yelled, "JARVIS! Enough is enough now!"
Peter was already clambering into the car, rummaging through his bag until he found his web slingers, shoving them on as best he could.
"No better time to test out this new formula!"
Gripping tightly to the car with one hand, he fired off a web at a fallen tree, feeling the web attach and grow taunt.
He was the only thing keep them from going over the edge.
…..
Tony had never felt terror like this before.
Well… he had, but that wasn't the point.
Going over the edge of a waterfall was new though, so this was a new fear.
"JARVIS!" Peter cried out desperately, "Come on! Release a suit or something!"
"Mark 54 has been released."
Tony frowned, "Did I make a Mark 54?"
"Who cares! Get ready Dad!"
Over the horizon, the suit came rushing towards them, the web on ethe verge of snapping as Tony got into position. As the web snapped, the last piece of the suit clicked into place, Tony catching his son just as the car went over the edge of the waterfall.
"Hang on Kid!" Tony shot off through the sky, "Maybe we should have travelled this way from the start!"
"I could have told you that!"
…..
"That suit really is the worst."
Peter rolled his eyes, not that his Dad could see them behind the goggles, "I'll make a proper suit when we get back, I promise. You can even help with the design!"
"You say that like I was never going to help."
The pair were watching a robbery in progress from a nearby rooftop, JARVIS having picked up Steve's voice from a local transmission.
"Right." Tony took a deep breath, "Please don't get shot or anything."
"Got it!"
…
"Look! A robbery… there's Captain America and Robo-cop!"
MJ looked up from her book as Ned corrected the person with an indignant cry of "he's called the White Wolf!"
No Iron Man or Spiderman to be-
"- Woah! Did you all see that?!"
MJ couldn't help but place the book over to one side, watching as Spiderman webbed one of the robbers to the nearby building.
"Peter…"
….
"Who the hell is this?" Bucky yelled over the cheering of the crowd, as the armed robbers were 'webbed' up and thrown at the feet of the police, "Seriously, what the hell was that?!"
….
"Go Spiderman! Go!"
"Look at Captain America's face, he can't believe it!"
"Look! There's Iron Man!"
…
Peter watched tensely as his parents stared each other down, faces hidden behind masks. Off to the side of his Papa, was Bucky, who seemed just as nervous as Peter.
"Captain." Tony began, only to stop when Peter nudged him in the side, "Steve… can we talk?"
"Are we actually going to talk?"
Tony was silent until Peter nudged him harshly in the side, knowing that it could be felt through the suit.
"Yes… we're going to talk this time."
Steve glanced over at Peter and frowned in confusion, "I remember seeing all the interviews about how you disapproved of Spiderman. What changed?"
"He's…" Tony cleared his throat, "… it's complicated." He gestured off to one side, "Shall we?"
…..
"So… you were bitten by a spider and you got powers?" Steve shook his head as they headed back home, "It sounds like something out of a comic book."
"I know, I know." Peter then seemed to notice where Tony was taking them, "Wait, why are we- "
"- You need to tell her the truth." Tony stated, "Look how well it turned out for us!"
Peter glanced between his two dads, and then at Bucky, "So… MJ and I have to go through a full-on civil war first?"
"You know I hate it when you call it that! It wasn't a civil war!"
"It kind of was." Steve interjected softly, "Just a little."
"Back me up here!" Tony locked eyes with Bucky in the rear-view mirror, "I'm being out-numbered here."
Bucky just turned away, a small smirk on his face.
"Right, I see how it is." Tony sighed, looking at Peter again, "This is the right thing to do."
They pulled up outside.
"I know… but she'll probably never speak to me again." Peter shuffled out of the car and headed slowly up to the front door, pressing the doorbell and waiting.
MJ opened the door, and almost looked impressed. "I didn't think you'd actually manage to do it." She began.
"Yeah… I-I didn't expect it either."
MJ frowned in confusion, "Everyone saw it though… Spiderman uniting Captain America and Iron Man. It was all over the news."
"That… unintended." Peter turned away, "My Dad dragged me out to go fishing, and I didn't want to make you think that I was ditching you for something so stupid, so I- "
"- Lied." MJ finished, "Why?"
"… I think I wanted to seem cooler than I actually was."
MJ still didn't look that impressed, but she didn't slam the door in his face. "That was stupid."
"Yeah…. I know."
MJ softened slightly, "So… do you want to go out tonight?"
"Really?" Peter beamed, "Y-Yeah! Of cour- Oh wait… I can't."
"Why?"
"We're getting the tower re-set up for the Avengers."
MJ raised an eyebrow, as Peter flushed sheepishly, "No, really! We are! Tomorrow?"
"Deal." MJ leaned over and kissed him on the cheek…. And then they both felt like someone was watching them.
Slowly, Peter turned around to see his parents and Bucky, smirking at him through the car windows.
"It's a little odd to see Captain America and Iron Man smirking at me." MJ whispered.
"… Would you like to meet them?"
"Obviously!"
