Chapter 8
Faith sighed as she heard the house phone start ringing and got up to answer it knowing it could well be her father or more likely his secretary calling to tell her what new fancy city he was going to. "Yeah?"
"Uh, Faith" to her surprise it was Dawn calling and she rolled her eyes knowing the girl had probably realised when she got home from school that all Buffy's things were gone from that house. She and Buffy had taken the morning off school to move all Buffy's things into her house while both Dawn and Joyce were out.
"What Dawn?" she sighed
"I, uh, well Buffy moved out and she didn't even tell me" Dawn sounded irritated by that and Faith couldn't help but roll her eyes as she covered the microphone part of the phone.
"BUFFY!" she called out seeing the blonde in question pop her head around the wall with raised brows and Faith chuckled loving living with her best friend. "Dawn called for you"
Buffy shrugged and shook her head, she didn't want to talk to Dawn just like Faith had predicted. "Tell Dawn. I don't know. Think of something snarky and tell her I said it" they both laughed at that and Buffy went to the fridge.
"Dawn B's not available right now... got important stuff to do and all that" Faith shrugged despite knowing Dawn couldn't see it.
"You didn't cover the phone properly Faith" Dawn sighed and Faith smirked not having realised Dawn would still of heard that but it didn't bother her either way. Faith put the phone on speaker and Buffy silently stood against the wall listening to Dawn ramble. "...I mean. I know Spike, me and Andrew kinda did a bad thing. Well, we did do a bad thing. But, no matter how it started out I think he really does like Buffy and I - I didn't realise how this would end when I started it"
"What exactly did you think was gonna happen?" Buffy snapped
Dawn gasped from the phone being on speaker, "I, uh, I didn't think about it but It never crossed my mind that it could hurt you Buffy. I swear!"
"It doesn't matter now Dawn" Buffy sighed, "I'm not mad at Spike. He's fine so you don't need to worry about him or anything"
"I wasn't worried about him exactly... your happy when your with him, even I can see that. I worried that what we did ruined that for you AND him" Dawn clarified surprising both the older women with the young teens concerns.
"Look, I've got moving in shit to do so, I'll see you round or something" Buffy mumbled hanging up the phone and shaking her head before scooping a spoon and ice-cream out of the freezer with a pout that made Faith have to swallow a laugh at.
Buffy glared before grinning and sharing the ice cream.
After a little while Faith pointed her spoon at Buffy almost accusingly, she'd been thinking about what Dawn said and while they were both pissed at the teen she wasn't wrong. Buffy was so much happier with Spike than Faith had seen her in a long time - it was like things started falling into place for Buffy and she wanted her friend to have that.
"Spit it out Faith" Buffy laughed
Faith rolled her eyes but did just that, "I think you should seriously consider giving Spike another chance" she told her friend honestly who was now giving her a weird look halfway between shock and disapproval. "Don't look at me like that B. I'm serious. Everything was falling into place for you. Spike as much of an asshole as he is... seems to really care about you and was a mess for the month you were gone, right along side me and Giles"
Buffy raised both brows, "like as messed up as you two were?" B's eyes narrowed when she nodded in confirmation. It had surprised Faith as well that he cared so much since her first thought had been that he'd only done it for the money, same as Buffy, but he'd been upset about what he'd done that much was obvious.
"No pressure. You do what feels right and if that's not Spike then it's okay. I'm just saying that when this started he didn't know you, didn't care about you... and once he did he kept trying and it didn't look like it was just for money"
Buffy nodded looking like she was deep in thought for a minute before she spoke, "He did use the money to buy me the guitar and still asked if I could forgive him for his part in this. He looked like he was close to tears too"
"Well, B, You've made a lot of guys cry but this one stands out from the crowd" Faith smirked bumping shoulders with Buffy hoping to lighten the mood.
Buffy smirked, "It's the bleach blonde hair" they both laughed loudly at that, only half joking because the hair really did make the guy stick out in a crowd no matter how large. That and the whole leather duster thing he had going, but surprisingly it suits him.
At school on Monday Spike had kept his distance but his eyes always sought her out when he walked into a room or out into the hallway. He knew she'd asked him for time to get her head together, to understand her emotions about what had happened and he respected her enough to not push.
She hadn't outright said she'd never forgive him but he didn't get the feeling is was bloody likely.
Buffy had given him a chance to explain and he was grateful because it was probably more than he deserved. And she hadn't broken his nose like he'd half expected her to, but she'd been hurt, that much was obvious.
Spike didn't know what else he could do to get Buffy to forgive him. He'd bought her the guitar with the money because it wasn't about the money for him, it was about wanting to be with her and not letting Andrew and Dawn down either. "Soddin' bad ideas" he cursed himself.
Spike raised his scarred eyebrow when he walked into the library and found Faith sitting at his usual hiding place. Snyder never thought to do more than a quick scan of the library and most kids stayed out which was why he liked it the most.
"Faith"
She looked up at him frowning and quickly stood pushing him into a seat, "Oi! Bloody hell, Luv, What are y-"
"Shut up bleachboy" Faith snapped at him with her hands on hips and he sighed resigning himself to getting his ass chewed out by Buffy's best friend. Spose its what friends do aye?
"Go on then" he gave her a sad smile
Faith paced a little before stopping and looking at him, "Tonight. be at the Bronze and watch her sing before you talk to her... she needs to get it out of her system"
He felt his eyes widen in surprise, "Buffy's singing tonight?" Faith nodded, "And yer want me to go and watch now?" Faith nodded again, "Are you daft? Bint doesn't want me bloody anywhere near her again, luv"
"Does all that loosely translate to you really want a second chance and you'll be there?" Faith huffed crossing her arms over her chest. "I mean, I'm still 5 by 5 if you don't want B but I thought that you did. I thought you wanted her back, to forgive you, thought you loved B" she shrugged before walking away.
Spike watched her leave, Faith was right about him loving Buffy and wanting another chance to be forgiven but he didn't think whatever Faith's plan here would work. The chit might be Buffy's best friend and all that rot but if there was one thing about Buffy that he'd learnt was she didn't stick around to be hurt again.
And she didn't deserve to be continuously hurt either, it didn't mean he loved the crazy bint any less. With a shake of his head he knew he'd be there. Who was he kidding? "I'm a selfish bugger" he smirked to himself hoping against all hope this was gonna work.

Buffy sighed as she got up on the stage this time, singing always made her feel better and she didn't think this time would be any different but she missed Spike. She fucking missed him! and she hated that she missed him! and she hated him for being someone she would miss! "Stupid brain" she muttered before climbing onto stage.
Singing was of the good for helping her focus.
With a deep breath she nodded to the rest of the band and the slower music started to play for the new song she'd sold them. Her body swayed to the music and she closed her eyes for a minute enjoying the feeling of being on stage again before she started singing.
"I'm not the sort of person, who falls In and quickly out of love But to you I gave my affection Right from the start I have a lover Who loves me How could he break my heart Yet still you get my attention Why do you come here When you know I've got troubles enough Why do you call me When you know I can't answer the phone Make a lie When I don't want you to And make me Some kind of an unknowing fool You make me stay When I should not Are you so strong Or is all the weakness in me Why do you come here And pretend to be just passing by Feeling guilty, worried? Are you waking from tormented sleep? This old love has me bound But the new love cuts deep If I choose now I'll lose out One of us has to fall And I need you
Are you so strong Or is all the weakness in me
Why do you come here When you know I've got troubles enough Why do you call me When you know I can't answer the phone Make a lie When I don't want you to And make me Some kind of an unknowing fool"
A roar of approval caused a smile even Buffy couldn't fight off her face. She'd known that singing and writing a sing would help her breathe easier and her heart already felt lighter for it. The song is sad, and less upbeat than any other she'd sold but it was still good and the vocal gymnastics you had to do sounded great. She was proud of it.
"THANK YOU EVERYONE" she cheered jumping off the stage only to stop dead in her tracks when she spotted Spike waiting with her jacket in hand and a sad smile.
"Hey, pet" he whispered and if she hadn't seen him lips move she wouldn't have known he spoke in the loud room.
"Spike, uh, hey" she took her jacket from his outstretched hand and she knew he probably knew that song was about what happened. They lyrics weren't some crazy metaphor, it was just how she felt with a simple melody. "What are you doing here Spike?"
"Can we talk, luv?" he asked and she nodded, she knew they had to talk at some point and there really was no point in putting it off any longer.
"Oh, this is of the bad" she groaned to herself following him out of the bronze and into the parking lot of the club where they both stood silently at her car for a long minute. "What are you doing here tonight Spike?" she finally asked
"Buffy, I'm so sorry pet-"
"Spike" Buffy sighed butting him off, "I've forgiven you, okay? I don't hate you we're friends" They'd had this conversation when she went to his house to talk. He'd explained and she'd let him apologise and let her anger at him go.
"But that's the thing, Buffy, Luv. We're not friends. We'll never be friends. We'll be in love 'til it kill sus both. We'll fight, and we'll shag and we'll hate each other until it makes yer quiver, but we'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, it's blood - blood screaming inside yer to work it's will. I may be love's bitch, but I'm at least man enough to admit it, pet"
She just started at him trying to process what he was saying, sure she missed him like hell and finding out that he'd gone out with her for money had broken something inside her but... Love? Did she love him? This didn't feel like it did with Angel and she'd thought she loved him.
But was that good or bad?
Looking up at Spike she could see the desperation on his face as he waited for her to say something and she knew he was being serious about how he felt. "Your saying you love me?" she pointed out but it came out as more of a question than she'd intended it to.
"I right bloody do, pet" he nodded, his eyes flickering across his face like he was searching for any indication of how she felt but she was still sorting it out in mind. "I screwed up, Y'Know pet. Some asshole paid me to take out this amazing chit and I screwed it all up"
Buffy snorted, she just couldn't help finding it funny, "How's that then?" she played along
Spike smiled back at her almost sheepishly, "I fell for the crazy bint"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, pet" he nodded and she took a step closer to him without even realising she'd done it until his hands were resting on her hips. "'Sides it's not every day you find a chit willing to bloody give the principle a look at her lady bits to get a bloke out of detention, now issit?"
"Oh God" she groaned but the groan was cut off by Spikes lips on hers and that was all it took for her to melt into his touch again. They both battled for dominance over the bruising kiss until air became an issue and they pulled away. "You can't just buy me a guitar every time you screw up though"
Spike let out a breathy chuckle, "Yeah I know, luv... there's always the drums, bass, even a trombone if I bollocks it up bad enough" she playfully hit his chest before reattaching her lips to his.

6 months later
"UGH! Get a room!" Buffy looked over Spikes shoulder to smirk at Faith, who was now making a dramatic show of covering her eyes and being disgusted by their making out but Buffy knew that Faith was still smugly proud of herself for getting them back together in the first place.
"Your poor innocent eyes!" Buffy cried in mock outrage making Spike roll his eyes but chuckle nonetheless.
"That was a bloody good idea Faith... Let's go to yer room Buffs" Spike suggested and both her and Faith rolled their eyes. The past 6 months had been perfect - not without small arguments - but she was happies she'd ever been. Her mom and Dawn had moved to Rome when Dawn got into some international study program and the three of them had graduated already.
Spike was studying English literature at the community collage in SunnyDale, Faith was studying to be a social worker and she's been studying at the same collage to become a councillor.
Faith's dad made the permanent move to Tokyo when Faith graduated high school and now her and Faith lived in the his house for free, only paying for food and anything they needed like furniture or clothes while they saved up from working.
Buffy hated her job at the double meat patty fast food chain she'd got a job at but it paid well. Faith's boss is about to fire some chick at the clothing store and Faith's gonna put in a good word for her but Buffy was just happy she was able to save up so much while also studying.
Spike had practically moved in with them since they'd been dating and because of that, Buffy knew that Faith was keeping a secret from her.
"Uh, Faith" Buffy hid her smirk before Faith turned around but she knew Spike had caught it if the groan he gave was any indication. "Some guy... Rob? Rodger? Ro-"
"Robin?" Faith supplied as she tried for casual but Buffy saw straight threw that as clear as day.
"Uh yeah sounds right. He called" she shrugged turning back to Spike knowing Faith wouldn't be able to walk back out of the kitchen without knowing when and why Robin called. Two weeks ago Spike had come in late since he'd promised to come over after his late night shift at the bar, he'd run into Robbin Woods coming out of Faiths room.
They hadn't exchanged more than a simple nod, neither one of them seeing Robin being here as a big deal but Buffy knew better. Faith and her had never been the 'invite the guy' over types when it came to hookups and so she knew if Robin was here then it was more than just sex. Though knowing Faith, her best friend, was probably pretending it was just sex even if Robin was asking for more.
After asking around campus subtly, Buffy found out that Robin worked at a gym part time and she just happened to show up the day he was working. She'd been sort friendly with him in high school and he'd had a major crush on her and Faith for a while but he was always more Faith's type than hers.
At the gym, conversation ensued where he'd given her a completely 'hypothetical' situation involving a women he gave the code name of 'hope' where he'd confessed his strong feelings for said girl who always froze up when he pushed.
"Let's take this up to my room" Buffy suggested grabbing Spikes hand and rushing them up stairs to her room. Spike's lips were on hers as soon as the door was shut but Buffy gently pushed him onto the bed and pulled away.
"Bloody hell? your stickin' that nose were it doesn't need to be, pet" Spike groaned when he realised why she was hitting pause.
"Give her a minu-" Buffy smirked when the knock on her door interrupted her sentence and she shot Spike a pointed look before opening the door. "Faith? you good?"
"I was just wondering... you know, I'm gonna go out and bang some heads together of whoever gave some jackass our home number" Faith smirked "So? I was just wonderin' what this Robin guy said? like what was the emergency?"
Buffy smiled softly at Faith, "Dinner and a movie"
Faith scoffed, as if the mere idea was disgusting to her but Buffy could see the way her eyes light up at the idea and the thought behind it. "That's-"
"A great idea" Buffy finished for her and Faith's eyes widened, "I mean, I get it Faith. I didn't think there was any point in a guy being more than a good fuck and I wasn't boy crazy either but it's nice... it's really nice and I want you to have that too. If it's a guy who makes the idea of diner and a movie sound of the good then do it Faith"
Faith was silent for a minute before an almost embarrassed smile broke out on her face, "You knew didn't you" it wasn't a question. Faith knew her better than that by now too.
Buffy shrugged, "There may have been some talkage and some hypothetical situations but, but, I love you Faith and Robin Wood and you have had this weird thing for years"
"Rodger? Rob?" Faith mocked with a laugh before nodding, "It makes me feel weird. Like I have no idea what I'm doing anymore and i'm not in control of anything this time" she admitted
Buffy nodded, "Yeah, remember when I punched Spike in the nose?"
"That bloody hurt!" Spike yelled and they both rolled their eyes
"So i should break his nose? ignore him and then I'll know what to do?" Faith asked sarcastically and Buffy cracked a smile.
"No, you should go on that date.. tell him if he breaks your heart or hurts you that I'll break more than just his nose and then you have fun. Don't hold back just have fun because that guy is head over heels for you... and right now all your showing is indifference so he's gonna be a good little puppy dog when you show him affection"
"Is this rubbish how yer two chits used to talk about me?" Spike huffed
"No when I talked about you it involved a lot more curses and some colourful threats of bodily harm" Buffy smirked
Faith smirked back with a snort at the understatement, "Plus she didn't consider giving you affection"
"Riiight" Spike drew out sarcastically with a chuckle "Ta ever so for clearin' that up luv, wouldn't want a bloke walking around thinking his bird had thought of maybe giving 'im the time of day"
"Just take a bloke to the bloody, soddin' movies luv, so yer can be a nice chit for a bloke" Buffy mocked Spike's accent "Now bloody hell move so I can get laid" the three of them laughed as Faith hugged Buffy and walked away.
"I'm gonna call him!"
Buffy shut the door smiling as Spike just shook his head at her, "Hurt me heart, that did, pet" he said with a pout.
"Yer birds bloody well 'afe way to the looney bin I'd reckon mate"
"oh, that's bollocks! I don't bleedin' sound like that you daft bint! Sod off with your butcherin' of me accent goldilocks"
"Captain peroxide"
"BuffyBot"
"Bleachboy"
"Yer gonna get it for that, pet"
Buffy smirked at him, "Oh I know"
