Chapter 16:
:Ultimatum:
Stirring from unconsciousness Elsa had awoken to find herself in one of the guest rooms in the Castle of Lions accommodation area. Her vision was blurry but could make out a figure by her bed side her vision sharpened to see it was Shiro.
"How are you feeling?" Shiro asked. Elsa sat up as she tried to answer.
"I feel like I just woke up from a nightmare." She breathed as she held her head, her hair was down and she was wearing bright blue Altean sleeping robes.
"It was a nightmare, one that I'm glad is over." Shiro answered Elsa then looked to his shoulder and saw it was patched up slightly. Shiro knew she saw this.
"Shiro, did I…" She shivered.
"Don't worry about that, it wasn't deep for any serious damage and the healing chamber helped but it did leave a little scar." He said but Elsa looked to her hands in horror as she remembered what she did to him.
"I… I'm sorry." She said. "For what?" Shiro asked.
"For attacking you, nearly hurting you I knew what I was doing but I just couldn't stop." Tears began streaming down her face.
"It wasn't your fault what you did was under the witches influence." Shiro assured.
"But I still did it, I hurt you." Elsa cried "You've been good to me, helped me and she made me attack you, I was just so afraid I thought I lost you and I just…" She then felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Elsa listen its all over now, your never going to lose me no matter what, thats what Zarkon's witch does she destroys good people and turns them into something their not. I know what thats like." Shiro said looking to his prosthetic arm. She was touched by what he said she didn't know what to say so she pulled him into a hug. Shiro was rather taken aback by this and did blush a little but gradually returned the embrace.
"Elsa!" Called a voice and entering the room was Anna, who wasted no time running to her sister and embracing her in a hug.
"Elsa!" Anna exclaimed as she hugged her.
"Oh Anna." Elsa smiled as they broke the hug and held each others hands.
"Thank goodness you're awake!" Anna was beyond happy nearly on the verge of tears.
"Anna, barely left your side." Shiro said chuckling. "Neither did they." He then gestured to the arrival of the space mice and Olaf. The mice scurried onto the bed and snuggled on Elsa's hand.
"Elsa oh you're okay!" Olaf cheered and waisted no time jumping up into Elsa's embrace.
"Well get some rest, we'll be at the rip to Arendelle soon.I need to check on everyone." He said.
"Oh, okay." She said and Shiro took his leave followed by Anna, Olaf and the mice leaving Elsa to get some sleep, which she needed after what she had been through.
Castle Bridge:
On the bridge of the Castle of Lions Kolivan and Antok were getting ready to take their leave. After their recent escape from Zarkons central command ship, the Blades spies in the Galra ranks have reported the aftermath of the recent damage to their particle barrier. Which was starting to confirm the suspicions of a spy in their ranks.
"We recently received communication from Thace, he says they're sending warships to look for you and the Galra suspect one of their own sabotaged the barrier controls." Kolivan explained. "With the ice Queen now out of their grasp their attention will turn back to finding a mole in their ranks."
"You sure it's safe for him to be there he could be found out." Kristof voiced in concern.
"No need for concern Thace knows the risk he knows how to cover his tracks." Antok said.
"For now we must return to our headquarters and make preparations. We must prepare our attack plan to defeat Zarkon, we shall notify you when we are ready. But should you need our aid again. We shall answer." Kolivan then said.
"Thank you Kolivan." Shiro said.
"Oh Kolivan." Anna added before the Blade leader took his leave he turned to face her. "I want to thank you, for everything for helping my sister." She said."I know the Galra have done some bad things but its good to know that not all of you are bad and are willing to fight for the right thing." She finished Kolivan was rather surprised as were some of the other Blades, they had never been praised before much less by a human.
"Coming from you that means a lot, Princess Anna, farewell." Kolivan said as he and Antok took their leave of the castle. Kristof then walked up beside Anna and put an arm on her shoulder.
"Those guys are something huh." Kristof said. "Yeah I guess it just shows that some Galra aren't as bad as Zarkon no matter what blood runs in their veins." Anna agreed but Allura still had a look of doubt on her face as she looked to a certain Red Paladin.
"Keith." Anna then called his attention as she approached him. "Listen, about what happened, I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you I just…."
"Anna." Keith interrupted. "Its okay if anything I shouldn't have made that crack about not trusting your judgement, besides you handled yourself very well in that ship despite the danger." Keith continued as he placed a hand on Annas shoulder. "You came despite the danger, sometimes your determination can sometimes get you killed but you risked it anyway thats what impresses me."
"He's right." Pidge added. "I think it was that determination that called the Green Lion to you." Anna gave a smile to her friends.
"Yeah I gotta say you flew that Lion like a pro." Complemented Lance. "Well, I can't take all the credit Lance." Anna admitted. "I did have good teachers." Keith and Pidge each gave a knowing smile.
"Yes and I must say Kristof getting the Yellow Lion to accept you was quite impressive." Coran then added putting a hand on the ice masters shoulder.
"Yeah don't know how I did it though?" Kristof said rubbing his hand on his neck.
"I think I do." Allura said looking to him. "Kristof when you saw a loved one in danger and wanted to help, it proved that you were willing to put another life above your own." Allura explained.
"Yeah I guess I did. Especially if that someone was very stubborn." Kristof teased.
"Hey!" Anna said nudging Kristof "I was handling it." She said.
"Yeah tell that to the Galra chasing you." Kristof said. "Well your one to talk you kept crashing into them." Anna pointed out.
"Hey I couldn't figure out what to do?" Kristof defended.
"Hey when in doubt crash into things, I learned that when I was fighting in the lion." Hunk agreed.
"Still I know what I did was stupid but." Anna tried but was interrupted by Kristof embracing her in a kiss which she returned. Warm smiles were shared all around even from Keith.
"Aw young love." Coran awed.
"Hey the important thing is your safe." Kristof said and Anna looked with a loving smile.
"Get a room you two!" Lance said and everyone laughed.
"Okay Okay." Shiro chuckled before his seriousness returned.
"We may've escaped the Galra for now but it'll only be a matter of time before they find us again, so to make sure we aren't caught by surprise we'll take turns standing watch." He explained. "I'll take the first watch, Keith you'll relieve me at midnight." Keith nodded at that suggestion. "Okay everyone get some sleep we'll work out our next move in the morning." Shiro then said.
"Wait how can you tell its day or night here?" Kristof asked.
"Yeah I can't see the sun, or the moon." Olaf added.
"Honestly, I just learn to roll with it or wait until we're attacked." Lance said as they took their leave from the bridge.
"I'm gonna go check on Elsa." Anna said. With that everyone took their leave of the bridge to get some much needed rest leaving Shiro alone on the bridge to keep a solitary vigil.
Meanwhile in her guest room Elsa couldn't sleep she was swaying and breathing hard almost as if she was having a panic attack. She was having a nightmare of whats she endured with the witch.
In her dream she was standing in a dark void, and all around her the witches voice echoed around her.
"You have incredible power within you and yet you waste it on mere parlour tricks!" Haggars voice echoed. "The power is more than you can imagine, you could become so much more if you would let go!"
Elsa just fired blasts of ice round her to try and hit the source of the voice. She then heard a voice.
"Elsa…" Her eyes widened and she turned round to face her mother and father. King Agnarr and Queen Iduna.
"Mother, Father?" Elsa breathed and smiled as she approached them.
"Stay back!" Iduna panicked and suddenly the ground below her froze encasing her in ice Agnarr was horrified at what had just happened as was Elsa.
"What have you done!" Agnaar exclaimed in anger. He then faded away leaving a heart broken Elsa in the shadows.
"People fear your power." Haggar's voice echoed.
Purple black orbs appeared revealing some of Elsas memories, some of which included her childhood that she spent isolated from Anna she sat there crying and ice began to form around her. The visions then showed her parents trying to help her with her powers but she just stood back and screamed too afraid to face them. However the last vision was one she didn't want to see. It was a stormy night over the southern seas and in the waves and torrents a certain Arendellian ship swayed around from side to side. Elsas eyes widened as she recognised that ship all too well. In her mind she could hear the screams and terror from those on board and among them were the screams of her parents. The ship capsized and was engulfed by the raging torrents of the seas.
"NO!" Elsa cried and she collapsed to the ground with tears streaming from her eyes.
"Those who you loved feared what you had…they fled and that lead to their demise." Haggars voice echoed. "And they weren't the only one who fell for your sakes."
One more vision showed the ice palace, specifically the moment when Hans stabbed Shiro in the back and it faded to reveal him falling to his doom in the iced fog caesium below. That was the final blow that struck Elsa's heart seeing another loved one fall to his doom.
"Ironic, those you love die before you all trying to help you and your powers. In the end you are the one to blame for their deaths." Haggar's voice echoes.
"Monster!" Another voice echoes.
"Its all your fault they're gone!" Annas voice echoes.
"Sourcery!" Another voice echoed.
"Shiro believed in you, and you lead him to his death!" Kieth's voice echoed.
"Your sisters dead because of you!" Hans's voice echoed.
Elsa was trying to block out the voices from her mind, but it was no use. She screamed as tears streamed down her face and just then Haggar appeared above her.
"You are mine now!" Haggar said as her cold yellow eyes glowed and Elsa just screamed.
Elsa flung up from her bed screaming. She took many deep breaths and saw she was still in her room in the Castle of Lions. She felt her face with her hands and saw tears were dripping from her eyes and most of the bed sheets were frozen in ice. She just breathed a sigh of relief that it was a dream. She got up from her bed and walked out of the room. She was walking down the hallways of the castle deep in thought her bare feet touched the cold ground and left an ice footprint on the ground.
Soon she found herself wandering into the the hanger housing the Black Lion, she didn't know why but she felt she was being drawn to the lion, almost like it was calling to her. She slowly approach its left paw and looked up to see it looming over her, she placed her hand on its claw and spoke.
"Hello." She said though it felt initially weird to be talking to a metal lion she remembered what Pidge said about them being living beings. She let out a sigh before speaking again.
"I, don't know if you can understand me but I want to know something." She said. "How could you have someone like Zarkon as a Paladin, I mean I know he was different once but I didn't see any of that all I saw was a blood thirsty monster." She then shuddered, "I… I'm so scared I've heard what he can do and to see him, and that witch." She shuddered. "She used me to attack my friends but who's to say that she wasn't right and everyone is afraid of the power I have…I just don't…."
She was suddenly interrupted, she heard a faint growling in her mind the kind a lion makes she realised what it was and listened almost like the lion was speaking to her. The Ice Queen was silent before she spoke.
"You, you want me to see through your eyes." Elsa breathed, she was confused but never the less, closed her eyes and let her mind go, the Black Lions eyes then glowed yellow.
Elsa awakes to find herself in some kind of dark void and around her were small spheres of light. She didn't know what was happening it was like she was on another plane of existence. She saw one of the spheres and looked into it suddenly her eyes glowed white. What she was seeing were the Black Lions memories of its life, its creation, fighting alongside Zarkon and the Paladins. However what caught her attention were the memories of the current Paladins and their experiences. She saw Shiro flying the Black lion with a darkened visor and flying through the lions gaze, more memories followed the Paladins working together to destroy the fighters on the Balmera and when they were separated they still counted on each other. She saw that Shiro was in a mountain landscape wounded and surrounded by lizard like creatures and was about to be attacked but the Black lion swatted them away with its paws and it was Keith piloting it which surprised her. The memories then flashed to the Paladins coming together to form Voltron as a team and heard Shiros words.
"If we work together, we'll win together!" His words echoed.
More memories came flooding in from the past Paladins and it was of Alfor and Zarkon standing with their fellow Paladins, as they wore their Paladin armour. Alfor then presented his comrades with weapons she recognised all too well.
"What are they?" Zarkon asked.
"I call them Bayards." Alfor explained as the five Bayards floated over to their respective Paladins. "Each Bayard is hand crafted with a small fragment of the comets ore."
The Black Bayard floated into Zarkon's hand as he admired it it took the shape of an energy blade which all but surprised him.
"With this much power. We will be unstoppable!" He said admiring his weapon.
Grygan, Blaytz and Trigal received their respective Bayards and each took on a different weapon shape. Grygans took the shape of a staff with blue energy between the ends and the Bayard itself. Blaytz's weapon was a bow with blue energy arrows as he struck a pose. Trigals weapon was that of a long staffed curved axe in her armour colours.
"They can create powerful weapons, but they also act as a key." Alfor continued to explain. "Bridging a Paladins essence with their lion…"
Alfor took his Bayard and it formed the shape of an Altean broad sword in colours of red and white. "Only so long as we fight together as a single unit." He raised his sword into the air as did the other Paladins with their weapons.
"To defend the universe!" Alfor proclaimed.
"TO DEFEND THE UNIVERSE!" The other Paladins cheered almost in an all for one and one for all fashion.
The memory then flashed to the Black lion facing a fleet of ships except it had larger wings with blue feather like wings attached to it. The lion flew at the fleet then using the wings phased straight through the ship and destroyed it with a laser blast.
Elsa opened her eyes and was back in reality, she couldn't quite explain it but she somehow knew what Black was trying to tell her. "I…. Understand." She breathed.
"So.." Elsa gasped as she turned around to see Allura standing behind her in her own Altean royal sleeping robes and nightgown. "..Someone else is having trouble sleeping."
"Allura?" Elsa said a little startled.
"Whats on your mind?" Allura asked as she walked over to her.
"Oh nothing just a nightmare." Elsa dismissed but Allura could tell it was more than that.
"A nightmare that has you up and standing in the Black Lions hanger?" Allura realised she couldn't hide her fears anymore, and other than Shiro she felt she could trust Allura. She breathed a sigh before she spoke again.
"No I just had a nightmare." Elsa admitted.
"About the witch?" Allura asked and the Arendellian queen was more than surprised. how quickly her friend had just guessed what was bothering her.
"How'd you…" "Well after Shiro's injury caused by the witch when the Paladins rescued me from Zarkon's base I recognised the same look that I saw on his face after we healed him." Allura explained interrupting Elsa.
"What happened when she had you captive?" Allura asked.
Elsa sighed before she spoke. "She..she wanted to know more about my powers, and how I got them" She explained. "She was in my head, she told me people fear what power I have and I… I can't help but wonder if she's right."
"How can you possibly think that?" Allura questioned.
"Well I haven't told anyone but Shiro but, when my parents died at sea years ago I.. I couldn't help but wonder if.. if they left because of me." Elsa explained.
Allura was all but taken aback by this notion, but none the less, listened. "I wondered if they were afraid of my powers when they couldn't help me control it when I was young. And that.. when they, left they left to get away from me."
"Elsa?" She turned and saw Anna standing at the entrance to the hanger rather shocked after what she had heard.
"Anna…" Elsa breathed. "How long have you…"
"Long enough." Anna said as she went over to her sister. "Elsa why didn't you tell me about this?"
"I.. I didn't want to worry you." Elsa admitted.
"I'm your sister Elsa its my job to worry about you." Anna said to her. "You should never feel this way, you're not responsible for what happened to mother and father."
"Your sister is right, things happen that are beyond our control." Allura agreed putting a hand on her shoulder. "If I could turn back time and save my father I would, but I can't, I didn't think I could move on the Galra took my family, but over time I've considered the Paladins my new family, especially the two of you."
Elsa and Anna were rather surprised by this. "Really?" Elsa breathed.
"Yes, and thats why we're a team we all act to make each other stronger no one needs to act alone." Allura said. "And no matter what we fear we work together to over come it."
"She's right Elsa, no matter what you may think or feel, your still my sister and I love you so do, Krsitof, Olaf, Sven, Kieth, Shiro, Lance, Hunk and Pidge all of us." Anna said. "No matter what."
Elsa wasn't sure what to think of this, she was almost on the verge of tears. Allura considered her family and she was right she was starting to think of the Paladins as her family too, especially Shiro but why was she thinking this?
"So what are you doing up Allura?" Elsa then asked changing the subject.
"Well much like you I have something on my mind something I'm trying to make sense out of." Allura admitted.
"Is it something to do with when we met the trolls?" Anna asked.
"You went to see them?" Elsa asked rather surprised.
"Oh yeah before we came to rescue you. Bulda said Grand Pabie wanted to speak to Allura and the Paladins." Anna explained.
"Yes and what I learned has been troubling me." Allura said. "He knew who I was, and he knew of my father as well. He told me the Paladins of old had visited Arendelle once before." To say the royal sisters were taken aback was an understatement. The Paladins predecessors had been to their kingdom before.
"But how?" Anna questioned. "I thought you said the past paladins time was ten thousand years ago Arendelle probably didn't exist back then?"
"He said how somehow time is different for Arendelle than our own universe but they follow the same path." Allura explained.
The two sisters looked at each other and came to the same realisation. "Wait, years ago back when me and Anna were kids. Mother and father used to tell us stories, one of them was about five gallant knights who rode on lions of great strength." Elsa explained.
"They came from lands afar and in Arendelles time of great need they charged in and vanquished any threat that met them." Anna said. "That was always my favourite part of the story. Do you think maybe father was referring to the lions." She gestured to the Black Lion.
"I'm uncertain, but it seems far from a coincidence." Allura said. "All I know is some how some way, the pasts of both Altea and Arendelle are both inescapably linked."
The three royals of both Arendelle and Altea all looked at each other with the same looks of intrigue and confusion. Some how some way Alfor and the Paladins of the past had come to Arendelle how and why is a mystery for now there were too many questions without that many answers.
All of a sudden the silence was shattered when the emergency sirens blared. In different parts of the castle the paladins were alerted. Hunk was startled when he was baking in the kitchen, Pidge was startled in her lab in the Green Lions hanger, Kieth who was on his way to relieve Shiro had heard the sirens sound off, and Lance was snapped out of listening to his music, Kristof was startled awake by the noise which also surprised Sven as he was sleeping snapping him awake and Olaf was startled after playing with the space mice.
Everyone hurried to the bridge where Shiro stood at his station, and was frozen in shock. As everyone looked up at the monitors they could see why. Out of nowhere appeared Zarkons command ship directly behind them along with a fleet of warships. Everyone saw this on the screens of the castle Elsa looked in horror as did Anna.
"Zarkon!" Allura exclaimed.
"H..how did he find us!" Elsa exclaimed.
"He must've tracked us through the Black lion!" Keith exclaimed.
"What do we do?" Lance exclaimed. Pidge hurried to her station and looked at their current position, she noticed they were near a certain area of space.
"We're not too far from the rip that leads to Arendelle if we hurry we can wormhole there and lose them!" Pidge exclaimed to Shiro.
"Everyone to your stations, we've got to wormhole to Arendelle now!" Shiro ordered as everyone took their stations on the bridge Kristof stood by Hunks station, Anna by Pidges and Elsas by Shiro's.
The fighters began firing on the Castle just as the particle barrier shield formed as a sphere around the ship deflecting the blasts. Swarms of fighters fired on the ship however they were blasted down by small drones in black, red and Blue. In the castle Shiro, Lance and Keith controlled the drones shooting down the ships.
"Kieth, Lance incoming at your eleven o'clock!" Shiro exclaimed and Kieth monovered his drone to blast the incoming fighters. Lance them moved his drone to take down more fighters coming in on the right with rapid fire.
On board the command ship Zarkon observed everything on top of the Komar knowing he had his prey in his sights. On the main deck the scared prince watched the battle take place. He looked and saw how they could easily destroy the paladins now, yet the emperor hesitates.
"What is he waiting for he can destroy them now, but instead he lets them flee!" Hans clenched his fists knowing soon would be the time to make his move.
The Castle of Lions drew closer to the ice clusters and to the rip within it. Coran saw it on the monitors. "We're approaching the rip!" He exclaimed.
"How long until we can wormhole!" Keith asked.
"We're nearly there but its going to be close!" Hunk relayed looking at the console.
"If we increase speed we maybe able to generate enough power!" Pidge advised.
"Hold tight!" Allura exclaimed as she gave more power to the engines increasing its speed and it zoomed away from the fighters and the command ship. Pidge monitored the speed as did Coran. The consoles then sounded saying the teledove was ready.
"THERE!" Pidge exclaimed.
"We're clear to wormhole!" Coran relayed and Allura focused her energy into the crystal above her the spires glowed then shone a light to the rip and the wormhole opened just in time and the Castle zoomed straight into it like a bullet, the wormhole/rip closed right behind it.
The crack then appears in the sky over the north valley in the dead of night the wormhole reopens and shooting out of it was the Castle of Lions as the wormhole closes behinds it. The occupants were groaning after the trip, as they looked up they saw the night sky and the Northern lights.
"Look guys the sky's awake!" Cheered Olaf.
"The Northern lights" Pidge exclaimed.
"So are we back?" Lance asked Elsa looked from Shiro's station and she could see a familiar sight below.
"I can see Arendelle." Elsa pointed. "We're back." She, Anna, Kristof, Sven and Olaf were more than happy to lay eyes on the kingdom they called home once again.
"Okay whats the call Shiro?" Keith asked.
"Let's head to the kingdom we need to see how they're doing since we left." Shiro said. "Coran stay on the castle and keep a look out for the first sign of trouble."
With that the lions with the Arendelle crew on board disembarked from the Altean ship and flew down to the kingdom below, but little did they know they weren't truly safe.
Zarkons throne room:
Meanwhile in Zarkons throne room Hans, Commanders Throk and Thace stand before Zarkon who sits on his throne with Haggar by his side.
"Emperor I mean no disrespect but why didn't you destroy the Paladins when you had the chance they were right in your crosshairs!" Hans said while trying not to disrespect the alien emperor. "Yet you hesitated!why you could have ended them and claimed the lions?"
"Do not question the emperor fleshing!" Haggar warned. Zarkon squinted his eyes at the human prince that stood before him.
"But how could the Paladins have escaped with Elsa?" Hans questioned "I thought you said no one could escape this place!"
"The barrier controls were sabotaged by the Paladins I tried to stop them, but the Blue Paladin shot me down before I could do anything." Thace explained.
"But how could they know about the controls so easily?" Throk questioned.
"It is clear this is an act of sabotage, the only way the Paladins would have such knowledge. Is if someone told them the details of the command ship." Haggar said.
"You have a spy in your midst, how have you not found him yet!" Hans questioned.
"Tread carefully human, your arrogance will only give you so much of my mercy!" Haggar growled.
"I mean no disrespect witch, I am merely speaking an opinion something that seems to be rather wasted." Hans said.
"What is it that you imply human" Zarkon said squinting his eyes.
"I merely say that such talented commanders and ships are wasted when you can't seem to destroy your enemies and claim the mighty Voltron." As Hans spoke he was ready to make his move secretly reaching for his sword. "A prize that seems more fit for someone with more ambition." As he was ready to sheath his sword suddenly a feeling came over Hans he couldn't move any part of his body he looked and saw Haggar had her hand up and it was glowing with dark magic.
"And you suppose yourself to be that one." Zarkon said simply. Hans was in complete surprise. "What was your plan to strike me down and then use my empire to claim Voltron." Hans's eyes went wide how could he have known that?. Zarkon rose from his throne and armed himself with his Bayard.
"I have known your intentions from the very start! Now it is clear" Zarkon continued as he approached the prince. "You gift us with knowledge of this Queen and her abilities, and seek to conquer her homeland for your own, but you seek further power, so ask yourself, who would try to pry Voltron from me? Who would try to earn my respect by striking down the Black Paladin and yet he failed, who was it who slithered his way into my empire just to claim power for himself?"
If Hans wasn't scared before he was now. "B-but Emperor! I wouldn't do such a thing why would I conspire with the Paladins? Haven't I done nothing but aid you?!"
"Did you think you could chisel it from me, prideful fool you cannot comprehend the true power of Voltron. Only the strongest are worthy of such power, I am the strongest." Zarkon was looking at Hans dead set in the eyes.
"I have seen your kind before, you have everything handed to you yet it is not enough, having bold ambitions but I do not seek ambitions I claim what is rightfully mine by force." Zarkon said in a deep voice.
"You say you were denied what was yours, I was denied what was mine by one I thought I could trust, but through his defiance he sealed the fate of his entire race to extinction." Zarkon then said "Now it is clear that the Queen of Ice and the new Paladins are denying that what is mine and so I shall do the same to this Arendelle I shall wipe it from the face of existence forever and from the ashes take the life of the Paladins and claim Voltron."
"W,What you, you promised me I could rule Arendelle!" Hans growled.
"Rest assured you shall rule whats left of it if the strongest survive then they will, that is the Galra way." Zarkon finished."Victory or Death!"
"You, You can't!" Hans growled Zarkon formed his energy sword from his Bayard and pointed it at Hans.
"Your purpose has been served human, you're no longer of use to me or my empire." He said but oddly though he didn't strike Hans down. "He is yours Haggar." Haggar released Hans from her grip and he collapsed on the floor. He looked to see Haggar standing above him and for the first time he felt the cold grip of fear in his spine.
Arendelle:
The paladins and royals had just landed in the kingdom and the kingdoms people were all but relieved to see their Queen returned to them safe and sound. Everyone conveyed their thanks to the the trolls came down from their valley after seeing the great castle in the sky.
"Oh your majesty we're glad to see you're alive beyond all hope." Gerda said to the ice Queen in relief.
"Yes it is good to see you are safe Elsa." Pabie said gratefully.
"I'm alright thanks to our new friends." Elsa said gesturing to the Paladins as the village people and the guards thanked them with handshakes and praise.
"Has there been any trouble during our absence?" Shiro asked.
"No sir Shiro, theres been no sign of these Galra you speak of for some hours now." Kai said to the Black Paladin. "Its almost as if they have left the kingdom."
"Unlikely." Allura said as she approached. "The Galra never stay silent for long they're out there somewhere biding their time."
At that very moment everyone felt a sudden shockwave throughout the ground startling everyone in the castle and the village. Luckily no-one was hurt, however at that moment a transmission came through from the Castle of Lions.
"Princess, Paladins come in!" Coran sounded on the coms.
"Coran whats going on what was that shockwave we just felt?" Allura asked.
" The Castle sensors picked up an object heading towards the kingdom. Point of origin the North Valley!" Coran relayed.
The Paladins, Altean Princess and the Arendelle royals all looked with the same shocked expression. Knowing what this could 's people looked in the sky and with worry in the sky a large fire ball blasted down to the earth it was a purplish grey spike with red lines on the valley of trolls the stone trolls and Grand Pabie looked to see a ball of fire fall from the sky all bore the same look of concern. The object impacted the fjord with an almighty crash the steam cleared and it transformed and projected a bright red light into the sky, from the light was a hologram of Emperor Zarkon himself.
"Attention Arendelle, I am Emperor Zarkon, Lord of the known universe, Emperor of the Galra Empire." He spoke. "I know you are harbouring the Paladins of Voltron so I pass this message to you now Paladins." The Paladins listened and Shiro glared. "For your defiance comes consequences, I intend to level this entire Kingdom so that nothing but ashes remain!" Everyone in Arendelle were horrified and men and women held their children close.
"You will surrender the Lions of Voltron to me! All of Them! You have two douboshes make your decision." Those final words were said as the hologram disappeared into thin air.
The Paladins, Ice Master, Stone trolls, Reindeer and Princesses Olaf did look a little scared too though he couldn't comprehend this. Zarkon had just threatened mass extinction to all of Arendelle unless they comply with their demands.
"No…he…he wouldn't !"Anna breathed in horror.
"He would!" Keith glared.
"Zarkon is threatening innocents to get to us!" Allura said in anger.
"Zarkon must be desperate that list of demands is straight out of a bad film!" Lance said.
"Maybe but the people are starting to panic." Anna observed. "What should we do?"
"Captain." Elsa called and the captain of the guard arrived bowing to the queen.
"Yes your majesty." The Captain answered.
"Call an emergency meeting at once and prepare Arendelle for an attack!" Elsa ordered.
"At once." The captain bowed.
"We best get over to that meeting." Shiro said he had a bad feeling.
Sometime later:
The Arendelle Royals, Altean Princess and Paladins were all gathered in the council room with the kingdom officials. Elsa had called an emergency meeting in response to the recent threat from the Galran emperor. However all was not well, the council were concerned with the threat that Zarkon presented.
"Queen Elsa, this is a troubling crisis." Said one council member. "This Galran Emperor wishes to wipe us from the face of existence unless we comply to his demands."
"I understand this, the threat he poses is dire, but we need to consider everyones safety." Elsa said. "We need to fortify the borders and get everyone to the shelters so they won't be caught in the crossfire of the battle."
"Battle?" Questioned one official.
"Your majesty we don't have the power to fight back this threat!" Agreed another.
"We do we have Voltron!" Anna disagreed. "The Paladins have fought this evil before so we have a fighting chance if…"
"Princess need I remind you this evil is here because of Voltron, if we hand over the lions maybe he'll leave us in peace." Another official said, much to the Paladins horror.
"WHAT!" Yelled Pidge.
"Screw THAT!" Lance exclaimed.
"WRONG!" Hunk said.
"Zarkon might be messing with us but theres NO WAY WE'RE HANDING OVER VOLTRON!" Keith agreed.
"Paladins surely you see the crisis at hand if we surrender the Lions perhaps this Zarkon will leave us in peace." Said an official.
"No he won't" The officials attention was then brought to the Altean princess in the room. "Theres no negotiating with Zarkon he's a murder he'll level this kingdom no matter what!" She then said.
"These affairs are of the people of this Kingdom not yours." Said an official.
"My father created Voltron so it is my concern!" Allura snapped "He knew what danger the lions could be in the wrong hands he and my entire race were wiped out by Zarkon just to keep them from his reach."
"All the more reason to turn them over." Said another official.
"No." Shiro then said "It won't end there if we hand over the lions, Zarkon will be able to kill anyone who stands in his way he's been doing so for ten thousand years in our dimension." The officials saw the dead serious look in the eyes of the Black Paladin and Altean Princess.
"I've personally met Zarkon and I can tell you now he's a blood thirsty monster." Elsa then said.
"I know your all scared and desperate, but I need you to be strong, your country needs you to be strong, you must summon what spirit you have to fight alongside Voltron and protect your home!" Everyone in the room listened "I know I'm asking a lot of you, I know the price of freedom is high but its a price that myself and my fellow Paladins are willing to pay, if we're the only ones so be it. But I'm willing to bet we're not."
The words of the Black Paladin sunk into the officials the fact they were willing to fight no matter the odds. Allura just stood impressed as she was used to Shiro. Elsa and Anna just looked in admiration it was clear that he had been through this before not surprising after hearing about the Paladins many conflicts with the Galra, but would these words be enough to convince them.
Zarkon's Command ship:
Meanwhile, Hans begins to stir, he finds himself inside some kind of pod it is in the shape of a coffin and through the visor he saw Haggar standing on a platform above him with her hand out.
"Release me at once witch!" Hans demanded in anger "Wh, what are you going to do to me!" Haggar just glared at him from above.
"Why I am merely giving you what you wanted a place in the empire, you shall personally have the honour of bringing down Voltron" Haggar fired a blast of energy at the pod and Hans screamed as he was engulfed into a bright light.
"I must admit though, I've never done this on a human before." She said eerily "The results should be interesting." The pod was now full of quintessence and was being transferred to something standing behind it.
Back in Arendelle the four Paladins, Kristof, Sven and Olaf waited outside the meeting room Hunk was anxiously pacing the floor as they waited. Suddenly they heard the doors open and saw Shiro, Anna, Elsa and Allura emerge from the room.
"Well?" Keith asked.
"They've agreed to stand with us." Shiro said.
"So what now?" Kristof asked.
"Now…We get to work." Shiro said simply and the Paladins set to work.
"Keith, Lance you'll help Kristof and Anna get the people to the emergency shelters under the castle." Keith,Lance and Kristof are at the bridge to the castle escorting the villagers to safety making sure they don't get separated from each other and their families. "Pidge look through the data we found and find out what the Galra intend to do." Pidge is in the castle of Lions looking through the data they collected from the command ship to get insight into Zarkons plans.
"Coran head to the rip and contact the Blades we're going to need all the help we can get and show the men how to handle Galra sentries." Coran meets the Blades at the rip after worm holing them through along with Ryner an Olkari scientist to provide extra help. After contacting the Blades, Coran had them take him to Olkarion to recruit the scientist Ryner for her engineering skills to aid in this crisis.
The soldiers were hesitant after seeing the Blades forces consisted of Galra. However, after hearing Kolivans story and mission they realise that if the Paladins trust them they are considered allies. Coran and Kolivan gave the guards tips on how to fight Galra sentries to aim for exposed joints in the armour and that they're machines not living beings so no need to hold back. Ryner was looking at creating a particle barrier around Arendelle to protect it from warship attacks.
Soon everyone from the Paladins, Allura, Elsa, Anna, Kristof, Kolivan, Reyner, Arendelle's captain of the guard, Olaf, Coran and Sven. A holographic display of a pillar device was shown in the centre of the room.
"Okay after decoding the data we took from Zarkons command ship, I came across these schematics of some kind of inter reality pillar device." Pidge explained.
"What does this Pillar do?" Anna asked.
"Hmm" Thought Reyner "It seems to be designed to amplify the rip that you all came through and make a wide enough gap for even the Galra to pass through." She said.
"With recent intel from Thace" Kolivan began "It seems they intend to bring the command ship through and then destroy the kingdom and take its quintessence from the ruins."
"How?" Elsa asked.
"I'm not sure." Kolivan said.
"Your majesty we have managed to evacuate all the villagers to the emergency shelters under the castle." The Captain informed. "I have guards covering the walls and outer perimeter of the kingdom and sailors are getting the ships armed and ready for battle."
"Reyner have you and Coran found a way to expand the particle barrier around Arendelle?" Shiro asked.
"We have a way using small devices to create a barrier around the kingdom but it'll only take so much." She explained.
"Then the castle will have to be on the frontlines to draw must of the fire." Allura suggested. "Then Voltron can storm the fighters that come."
"Actually Allura," Shiro said as attention was drawn to the five defenders. "We've all talked it over and well, we've decided to attack the Galra where they live." He said.
"What?" Anna questioned "but where are the Galra?"
"Kristof and me run some recon and they're held up in a far part of the North Valley." Hunk said. "It wasn't so easy to avoid being spotted but we got away quick thanks to Sven." Sven snorted proudly as Kristof stroked his reindeer companion in thanks.
"Which means if we stop them before they can activate the pillars Arendelle won't be caught in the cross fire." Pidge then agreed.
"Yeah take the invasion to the invaders!" Lance cheered.
"But, you can't face a whole invasion by yourselves you could be killed!" Anna said.
"Maybe, but if it'll save Arendelle we have to take it." Keith said.
"He's right we won't stop fighting till our last breath." Lance agreed.
"I agree a frontal assault may help slow them down, at least cripple some of their forces." Kolivan agreed.
Allura, Coran and the Arendelle residence seemed rather unsure about what they were proposing. "You've all decided?" Allura asked to which the Paladins nodded. "Then if your sure we won't stop you." She decided.
Soon everyone was down in the hanger bay biding their farewells. Anna was talking with Pidge.
"I really wish I could go with you." Anna said.
"Yeah but don't even think about stowing aboard my lion." Pidge said with a smirk to which Anna chuckled.
"I… I just hope you come back, I mean your like my little sister I just." Pidge then looked to Anna.
"Hey, when this is all over we'll be having ice cream and laughing, I promise." She said in comfort. Anna then kneeled down to Pidge. "I'll hold you to that…Katie." Pidge smiled as the two embraced in a hug the kind that sisters would share.
Kristof and Sven were talking to Lance and Hunk. "Well good luck guys." Kristof said to his two friends.
"Yeah lets hope we come out of it alive." Hunk said Lance then felt something nudging his hand and he looked to see Sven.
"Hey don't worry Sven we'll be okay we've been through worst scrapes before." Lance said stroking his head.
"Yeah here fella." Hunk said handing him a carrot which he accepted.
"I'll do what I can to help everyone else." Kristof said.
"Well be sure nothing happens to Allura." Lance said.
"Don't worry lover boy I'll make sure nothing happens." Kristof chuckled.
"How about a good luck hug Keith." Olaf said with open arms, Keith just looked down at the small snowman but just breathed out a sigh as he knelt down.
"Fine I'm probably going to die anyway." He said with open arms, and instantly Olaf leapt onto him and gave him a warm hug. A few minutes later Keith had had enough.
"Okay you can let go now." He said.
Meanwhile Shiro was talking to a certain Ice Queen. "I never thought we'd end up here." Elsa said.
"Yeah I always thought something would happen after that first warship." Shiro agreed "But I didn't think we'd be looking down the barrel of a full scale invasion." Elsa did smile but looked down a little trying to find the right words to say.
"Shiro..I.. I have to tell you something." This gained Shiros attention. "The.. the night we met I made a wish on a star" she explained. " I wished it for someone to bring me happiness and well, I think it brought you to me." Shiro was rather taken aback by this but only smiled.
"Maybe, but fate or not I wouldn't have changed meeting you or your sister for the world." He said and all Elsa could do was smile even shed a small tear.
"Shiro." Keith called. "Its time." Allura then approached the five.
"Paladins, we may've been brought together by fate but today, we stand united against the Galra, I hope that when we see each other again it'll be in victory. I wish you luck." She said to her family to which the Paladins put on their helmets.
"Okay team lets move out." Shiro said and the Paladins took their leave walking to their lions. Everyone looked to see them leave on a potential suicide mission. Anna held her sister with worry but Elsa was the most worried.
The paladins stood together as a team as if the world was in slow motion and each bore determined expressions on their faces. The five approached their lions who stood together and their eyes shone bright.
As the people of the kingdom headed down to the shelters, they looked up to the sky seeing five colourful lights leave the Castle of Lions their hearts shined with hope for their salvation. In the distance the lions were approaching the North Valley they came together in formation and began to glow in their respective colours before disappearing in a bright light.
The lions came together and formed Voltron blue and yellow formed the feet and legs, green and red arms and body, and Black formed the head as the jaw dropped, revealing Voltrons face and his eyes shone bright.

Deep in the North Valley stood a Galra base camp, and sentries were working on the inter reality pillar, and making sure everything was ready. In a observation room Commander Throk was observing everything. Suddenly an alarm sounded on the console, a Galra soldier looked at the console and saw it was the radar. "Sir we're picking up an object coming in fast!" He relayed. Throk turned to another observation window and could make out a rather large object. His eyes widened as he saw it was a certain giant robot coming towards them.
"IT'S VOLTRON! MAN THE ION CANNONS GET THAT PILLAR ONLINE!" Throk ordered The warships in the base launched and fired their Ion cannons at their target Voltron was flying in at full speed avoiding the blasts.
"SHEILD UP!" Shiro ordered and Voltron formed his shield from his wings. The shield blocked an incoming blast from an ion cannon and deflected it at the ships on the ground destroying them.
"Remember our primary target is the Pillar we blast through the defences, then we destroy it before it can launch!" Shiro ordered.
"Got it! FORM SWORD!" Keith said plugging in his Bayard and Voltron formed his sword and charges straight at a Warship and slices through it exploding soon after. Fighters began attacking from the right hand side Voltron fires a blast from his left hand destroying the fighters but more came swarming out from the warships.
"FORM SHOULDER CANNON!" Shiro ordered and Hunk thrusted his Bayard into the port and the cannon forms on Voltrons shoulder. The cannon fires a flurry of laser blasts which destroy not only the fighters but the warships as the shots went in different directions. From the observation Throk could see their forces were being overwhelmed.
"Sir, the pillar is ready!" Said the soldier.
"ACTIVATE IT NOW!" Throk ordered, and so the soldier typed in a code on the console and the pillar began to light up with energy and make a strange humming sound, the light grew brighter and brighter Voltron had destroyed the last fighter before noticing the light.
"The inter reality pillar!" Lance exclaimed.
"Its activating!" A beam then emerged from the pillar as it reached into the sky.
"Pidge what can we do?!" Shiro asked.
"We need to block the energy flow we'll need to charge right into its exposed core!" Pidge relayed.
"Its the only way." Shiro decided and the other Paladins were behind him all the way. Voltron's cannon disappeared and reformed his sword, the jets on his wings and legs fired and charged straight for the pillar however as the energy hit the sky where the rip was it let loose a large energy wave which hit Voltron so hard energy surged through him.
"GAHHHHHHHHH!" The Paladins screamed as a bright light engulfed them and Voltron disbanded back into lions which crashed to the ground! In the sky the crack began to widen which showed the ice clusters on the other side and passing through it was an armada of warships with fighters beside them as the central command ship approached slowly. On the bridge of one of the Warships stood Zarkon himself and standing beside him was Witch Haggar.
"Sire, the Voltron lions are powerless shall we tractor beam them to the ship?" Asked a commander.
"No." Zarkon said "I want them to live long enough to suffer, then and only then when all hope and life from their hearts are extinguished shall I take Voltron." He said simply "maintain course."
The warships left the area and in the distance they saw Arendelle and began their approach. From Arendelle the soldiers and Blade of Marmora could see the warships approaching, from the castle ship bridge Allura, Coran, Kolivan and Kristof could see the ships and the rip opening from the screens they all looked in horror. Meanwhile in the Arendelle Castle watching from the balcony Anna and Elsa just looked with worry the battle was literally on their doorstep now.
"Shiro" Elsa breathed with worry. In their lions the Paladins were rendered unconscious by the blast of energy, the war was about to begin but would the Paladins be able to stop it or was this the end?
Authors Notes: Dun Dun Dun, the Paladins are down, the Galra invasion fleet is looming over Arendelle what will happen will our heroes recover in time to aid their allies or is this the end of the line for Arendelle? Well you won't have to wait long as I am putting a hold on updating my other stories since we are close to the big finish!
Now for some of this chapter I took inspiration from some of the Voltron episodes, Voltron Force and even from the Power Rangers 2017 movie. I know most of us have some mixed feelings about that one some of which I agree with but there were some scenes that were an inspirational source for this story. So keep your eyes peeled for more. Also I have taken inspiration from Frozen 2 for the Black Lions memories of the current and past Paladins showing Elsa that despite all the trauma and differences by working together they can overcome anything.
Now theres an even bigger mystery in the air, the original Paladins have been to Arendelle before but how and why still remain out of reach. Who knows maybe in later stories we may yet have an answer to that riddle.
