Chapter 8: Something to prove

WHAM! Iida's body fell with a loud thud after Yuuto tossed him out of the ring. 'No way! Too fast...' Iida thought as his face hit the pavement and the roaring crowd quickly went silent.

"Is-Is that it?..." Present Mic muttered over the radio, even he was shocked at just how quickly the battle had come to a close, lasting a total of 3 seconds. "Okay? IT'S OVER! Yuuto Genji is our winner."

'No way… It's not possible…' Iida's mind began to race, he didn't even pick his head up as the thoughts flooded his brain. 'This can't be right… I-I was eliminated? In the first round? I didn't even get a chance to show off my quirk in combat… My big brother was watching and I failed….' Tears began to well up in the class reps eyes.

"I'm sorry…" Yuuto apologized, extending his hand to help up his fallen classmate but he couldn't bring himself to make eye contact. "I should've given you a chance to show off your abilities Tenya but I was selfish." Yuuto muttered as he stared up into the crowd and began to take in the muttering.

"Hey Did you see that quirkless kid move cause I didn't?!" One of the audience members exclaimed. "He's got some skills."

"Wonder if his dad is the one that taught him those skills?" Another man added. "He seemed pretty comfortable taking down the hero in training."

"Not just any hero in training. I'm pretty sure that's Ingenium's kid brother." A lady pointed out. "He's gotta be good but that other kid beat him easily, no wonder UA decided to keep him."

"I don't care, I still don't like the idea of them keeping a super villain's kid at UA." An angry gentleman butted in. "I don't care what quirk those sickos gave him, you ask me he's a freak."

"Haaah…." Yuuto sighed as he lowered his head. "Again, I'm sorry but I've got something to prove today…. I'll show the world that UA didn't make a mistake bringing me in."

"Huh?" Iida muttered as he looked up finally, seeing the determination in his classmate's eyes. 'Yuuto doesn't talk much, when his secret was revealed to the world he kept quiet for the most part. I always assumed it didn't bother him especially since he had been so honest with us as a class but I guess that much doubt and ridicule would affect almost anyone.' Iida began to stand up, as he did so he grabbed Yuuto's outstretched hand getting the crowd to cheer. "I forgive you but you need to make sure and win. You defeated me so if you're bested in combat now it'll look badly on both of us, so I'll be counting on you to win."

"Yeah… Thanks Iida." Yuuto was caught off guard by his classmates but the two ended up shaking hands as they exited the battlefield.

"Way to be a good sport! That's the class rep for you!" Present Mic announced as the two returned to inside of the stadium as they began to prepare for the next match. "And thanks to Yuuto's…. Efficiency... We won't have to redo the battle field this time, we appreciate it boys!"

(Later, Yuuto's POV)

Feeling hungry after my match, I decided to visit one of the many food stalls outside the stadium in our free time between rounds one and two. "Uh can I get too skewers please."

"Sure thing!" The stall manager said as he began to prepare two Yakitori skewers. "I saw you fight earlier, good job kid." He continued to make conversation as he served up the food. "I'm sure the pros saw it too. I'll be rooting for you."

"Uh, yeah thanks." I muttered as I received my food and a smile from the kind servicemen and I immediately felt my spirits pick up. "I won't let you down."

I began to make my way back to the stadium when something caught my eye, a strikingly familiar tufted of spiky black hair. When I turned to get a better look I was utterly floored, I immediately dropped my Yakitori to the ground. I'd recognize those eyes anywhere, a striking yellow color that seemed to burn holes into my head from across the way. "Youske?"

(Flashback)

"Hah Hah Hah…." I panted as sweat flooded across my face. I had just finished a workout when I heard the door to the workout studio slowly open up.

CREEEEKKK! "Whats up bro!" Youske said with a massive grin as he marched into the dojo. Youske is my brother and a year older than me, he along with his twin sister Yuuna were adopted by my father after it was obvious I wouldn't develop a quirk. Both of my siblings are full fledged villains working under my father and they've occasionally come to help with my training. "Pops wants us to fight, to see how you've improved." SHINK! A large metal blade extended out from his wrist. "I'm ready when you are."

I picked up my katana and Immediately warped to the other side of the dojo and I continued to change location, Youske's eyes began to dart in every direction as he tried to keep me in his field of vision. I call this random serious of warping my haunted house technique because its all about getting my opponent looking over their shoulder before I engage.

"I don't know what you think you're doing but if you're trying to confuse me then you're gonna be in for a rude awakening!" CLANG! Steel met steel as I warped in close to Youske and thrusted my sword forward but he blocked with his wrist blade. "Listen up bro! I've got some knowledge that I wanna drop on you! Heroes are the best society has to offer, the smartest and strongest of us but they need good villains in order to reach the pinnacle of their profession. There's nothing in this world I value more than powerful heroes so I've pushed myself to become the greatest villain I can be. Iron sharpens Iron! That's my motto." VROOOMM! Youske's blade began to vibrate and sparks began to fly from where the two blades had met as Youske began to cut into my sword. "That's why I need you to try harder than this!"

"Crap!" I muttered before warping away to save my sword meanwhile Youske extended another blade out from his wrist and it began to vibrate as well.

"Bad news for you bro. You don't wanna get into a sword fight with my Buzz saw quirk, I can cut through those boring old blades like paper." He taunted as he began to charge me.

Seeing his attack coming I warped myself behind Youske and launched a handful of shurikens while he had his back turned but he suddenly turned around and VROOOMMM! His vibrating blades sliced through most of the throwing stars, protecting his vital areas but letting one of the stars graze his face, just barely managing to slice his cheek but regardless he smiled through the pain.

"It doesn't matter how fast you move, pro heroes will see attacks like that coming from a mile away, that's just how incredible they are. You need to be more creative. Your new quirk lets you take advantage of space better than any one. A good fighter knows how to cover there blind spots so you need to learn how to create openings on you own and take advantage of those. You may think your quirk is made for evasion and defense but where I think it can really shine is on offense." He smirked as he deactivated his quirk and began to retract his blades back into his arms. "I think that's enough enough for today. Make sure you keep what I told you in mind bro. We can't let dad down can we?"

(End of flashback, moments later)

"Alright and we're back for another exciting match! Isn't that right Eraser?" Present Mic asked as he began to introduce my next match against Ibara Shiozaki, the girl who beat Kaminari in the first round. Eraserhead didn't answer leaving Mic to finish by himself. "From Class 1-A we've got the kid who can move faster than light Yuuto Genji! Let's hope this round lasts longer than his other fight, am I right?..."

"His opponent is Shiozaki from class B." Aizawa finished not wanting to let Mr Yamada go on any longer.

"I know you…" Shiozaki called out as the time before our match slowly whittled down. "You're the son of an evil villain and you mercilessly dispatched your own classmate." Her eyes narrowed at me. "I suggest you use this battle to reflect on your many sins."

I didn't answer back, mostly because my mind was still preoccupied with thoughts of my brother. 'What the hell was he doing here? How could I let him get away? Where did he go? Is he still here? Is Dad here too?' These thoughts filled my head but as the seconds ticked down I knew in the back of my mind that I had a job to do.

"AND BEGIN!" Mr Yamada announced and the fight commenced.

I implemented my Haunted House technique and began warping all across the battlefield. I saw her fight with Kaminari and her vine quirk is impressive but unlike Youske she was still inexperienced when it comes to combat, her eyes followed me all across the arena and I could tell she was quickly becoming disoriented and I decided this was my opening.

I warped directly behind Shiozaki and planted my foot hard down on the concrete and performed a spin kick. "HAAAHHH!" I cried out as I spun on my planted foot but even though shiozaki was a little disoriented, when I spun around to strike a dozen vines shot out and wrapped themselves around my leg. "Huh?"

"I knew a sinner such as you would attempt an underhanded attack from behind so I made sure to stay prepared." She commented as she clasped her hands together and looked up towards the sky.

"Grrr…" I growled slowly growing more fed up with her whole overly religious persona and wanting to end things as soon as possible so I could deal with this Youske thing, I figured as long as I was wrapped up with her I'd just toss her out of the ring. I began to pivot once more on my planted foot but once she felt me tug on her "hair" she detached the vines around my leg and had them make their way up my body until everything under my shoulders was bound by the green tendrils. "Enough of this!" I declared and simply warped myself out of the vines and stood in front of Shiozaki.

"What?! How could you possibly escape from my vines?" Shiozaki was taken aback by how easily I overcame her trap.

"Sorry but your vines, in fact no ensnaring quirk can keep me contained. I can just teleport my way out." I explained as I prepared to finish this battle. "I hope you've been able to demonstrate everything you wanted to cause this battle won't last much longer."

"Pride is a sin!" Shiozaki declared as she unleashed a massive wave of green vines in my direction, to the point where there were none left covering her now bald head.

"Hmmm." I warped myself behind the girl and delivered a quick but powerful chop to the back of her neck, knocking the girl unconscious. "She's down!" I declared for myself.

Midnight stepped down from her referee's stand to verify, checking her pulse before lifting a thumbs up in confirmation. "Shiozaki is unconscious. Yuuto Genji from class 1-A is the winner!"

I didn't stick around to listen to cheers this time, as soon as Midnight called the match I marched off the stage and out of the arena. Something new was on my mind…

(Elsewhere)

"MMmmm… This yakitori is something tasty." Youske muttered as he munched down on the chicken skewer sitting in one of the arena seats. "Whadda you think sis?"

"I think Dad didn't send us here for chicken on a stick…" A woman with long black hair, wearing a large sun hat and big lense sunglasses and deep red lip stick answered from the seat next to him, holding her own uneaten stick of chicken which she offered up to her brother who eagerly partook. "Have you even been paying attention?"

"Mmmmmmm… Are you kidding?" Youske answered between bites. "This is the U.A Sports Festival! The future of the Hero world! The heroes whom we as villains are destined to test are metal against in years to come, I can't get enough of it. There are some impressive ones out there too, Fire Ice Man, explosion boy!"

"Yeah? And what about our darling little brother?" Yuuna let her sunglasses drop down so she could meet her brother's yellow eyes with a pair of her own. "I'll admit it kinda pisses me off that dad sold us along with everything else to those League of Villain creeps for those powers just to have them wasted like this."

"Wasted?! Are you kidding?!" A bright smile formed across Youske's face. "If he wants to become a hero, I say let him. When he comes into his own I'll be there to make sure he's up to snuff and if he's not then I'll have no choice but to cut him down."

"I'll never get that crazy philosophy of yours bro…" Yuuna groaned as she scratched her forehead. "But as far as cutting Yuuto in half is concerned you may not get the chance. I'm pretty sure that dad has dibs."

"Yeah… Poor kid…" Youske shook his head before returning to his meal.

(Next round, Yuuto's POV)

I marched onto the battlefield for the first match of the semi-finals. Ready to face the first opponent in this tournament that actually frightened me, Shoto Todoroki.

I've always considered Todoroki a very powerful combatant, his Ice power is something to be reckoned with. He defeated more villains at the USJ than even I did and he was only using half his power, in his battle with Deku he unleashed his full power and activated his fire half which he used with devastating force.

The Issue with facing Todoroki is how he's able to take over the terrain with his Ice. My Vanishing Quirk lets me move anywhere instantly but I still have to touch the ground, I can't fly, but with Todoroki's ice everywhere I'll need to be careful where I teleport. Warping around haphazardly is a bad idea, I gotta make sure I use my quirk with intelligence. I can't be sloppy like my fight with Shiozaki but I still can't get Youske out of my head.

"This is a fight you should have some major insight on huh Eraserhead?" Yamada jabbed. "Considering we got two of your top students squaring up. Yuuto Genji from Class 1-A up against Shoto Todoroki also 1-A."

Just then todoroki emerged from his tunnel and I got my first glimpse at my classmate and who would be my next opponent but he seemed strangely out of it for some reason. 'I know his fight with Deku got pretty… personal so is he still feeling out about that? I can't let his appearance now get me feeling overconfident, Todoroki isn't the type to let his emotions get the better of him. I'm probably gonna need to go all out.' I thought as I clenched my fist in determination.

"So far these two have shown absolutely no mercy to their opponents thus far so the question on everyone's mind is as their teacher who would you put your money on?" Mr Yamada prodded but Mr Aizawa didn't justify it with a response. "Silent with anticipation huh? I don't blame you, this match has the makings of a sports festival classic. So let's not keep anyone waiting any longer. 3!"

Todoroki took his battle stance, shifting his right leg out in front of him, basically advertising what his first move would be and where it'd come from. That's just how confident he is in his power.

"2!"

I took a stance of my own. 'I can't use my haunted house technique in this fight, if todoroki feels he's lost the advantage of the battlefield he'll just freeze everything. Sero tried to make the first move and he was caught off guard and overwhelmed. Midoriya played defensively but he ended up trying to match power with power and he lost too. I need to create a strategy that won't put me in either of those situations, Deku's fight lasted longer so I'll start on defense and try to wear him down.'

"1! BEGIN!"

As soon as Yamada gave the "OK!" Todoroki shifted his foot and a massive wave of ice erupted in my direction and I wasted no time warping to Todoroki's left. 'I thought I'd keep on defense but I wanna see whether or not he'll use his flames. Let's see how he reacts to a charge at his left side.' "HAAAAHH!" I roared as I began to run at him. 'I could just warp in close but if I do that, I'm not confident that I can end this fight before he can freeze me. This is just a test!'

Todoroki quickly caught on to my charge but he didn't respond with flames instead he turned to me and made another stomp of his right foot, creating another massive, spiked glacier to defend his left side. I jumped into the air to avoid the ice but I could feel a chill around my left foot and figured I needed to warp away rather than risk the ice catching me from behind. I used this opportunity to attack, teleporting above and behind Todoroki's head. I reached his blind spot before he could adjust to my movement and using this opportunity I slammed my foot into the back of his head.

My kick managed to knock Todoroki over, causing him to fall on his face and I saw this as my chance to continue my attack. My plan was to grab hold of Todoroki before he could recover and I would immediately teleport him out of the ring but I had overestimated my attacks potency and as soon as I warped in range to grab Todoroki I felt an even larger chill and saw the ground below quickly become encased in a thin layer of ice. Before this ice could reach my feet I leapt into the air before vanishing away and reappearing above the battlefield.

I Looked down as I began to plummet and saw the entire battlefield freeze as A massive pillar of ice began to rise up from the rest where Todoroki stood. "He's creating a vantage point." I blurted out as I continued to hurdle towards the earth. With my quirk it'd make sense to have a high viewpoint to keep track of my movements. "I'll have to knock him off his perch."

I began to lean into my descent, collecting momentum throughout my descent before warping myself to Todoroki's left, turning that downward momentum vertical and using it to deliver a speed enhanced punch to his face.

"Oooff…" Todoroki grunted as he fell from his icy tower, that grunt being the first noise he made the entire fight so far. Before Todoroki could hit the icy ground another frozen pillar shot up to catch him mid decent meanwhile I took advantage of the ice to slow my own momentum planting my feet down on the slick surface and using it to slowly slide into a stop rather than smashing head first out of the ring.

"Huuuhhhaaahhh…" I let out a deep breath, using my warping quirk as much as I have today was starting to get to me. This sports festival was certainly an endurance test and I was starting to worry my stamina would fail me sooner than later. "WOAH!"

Todoroki wasn't gonna let me catch my breath, he immediately attacked with another wave of ice spikes. I warped out of the way, teleporting on top off the jagged blades of ice which I used to propel myself forward. I need to attack fast if I keep warping around to avoid the ice I'll run out of steam fast.

I leapt forward to punch Todoroki but he retaliated with another wall of ice. I expected this, teleporting to the top of the ice wall and using it as another springboard which resulted in success when my attack landed once again I knocked Todoroki from his ice pillar but this time I was ready to grab him. I would warp him out of the ring and end the match right there.

As he tumbled down I managed to grab hold of his sports jersey and this was my chance. I warped myself and Todoroki to the edge of the ring firmly planting my feet on the icy ground and lifting my foe up over my head with the intention of throwing him out but unfortunately in my race to end the match before my stamina could be depleted, I was hasty. "GAME OV-" In my rush to grab todoroki I wasn't paying attention to which side I grabbed and a sudden and vicious chill ran down through my arms and quickly overtook my whole body. Freezing, every inch of my body ceased all movement before my vision went white.
