The stranger and the Storm

Sorry for the long delay, have been busy lately, especially with the holidays around every corner, But at long last, I give to you Chapter 12

There Will be a few sort Time skip in Chapter 12
I will also write about Silverwing's and the Stranger's POV in this chapter

Shimmer (POV)

It has been a week since the raid on the Dragon trappers base and a Week since I took in the strange dragon egg.

Fishlegs named the dragons Dawn Furies because of the close resemblance the Dawn furies have to Night Furies.

I carried the egg in a small makeshift cloth sling from a blanket I found in the trapper's base, but I still held on to it making sure it did not fall out of the sling that was around my neck.

We flew at dawn, hence the name given to the Dawn furies, and we landed in Berk during the late afternoons.

Hiccup and Valka gave me and Aurora our own little house den of a sort in where we placed the egg, it was nice and warm in the house den which was a perfect environment for the egg, both me and Aurora took shifts to keep an eye on it at times, and occasionally we both left the egg in either Valka or Storm's care if needed.

Now about a week after the raid, the weather started to change, the cold has starting to set in, indicating the approach of the cold Winter season, the long cold Berk winter is coming.

I was now out on my daily flight above the village, Silverwing has accompanied me as she usually does when either me or Aurora are out on our daily flight.

Silverwing has grown a lot since the first time I have seen her, she is now waist high with most of the Vikings at this point.

She can speak much more now in the week since the raid, and Aurora has gotten better at flying as well.

I returned to the house a few hours later and saw a strange dragon nearby, it was a dark purple blue color with silver lines on its wings edges and silver belly and chest scales and a very long tail,

The strange dragon quickly went around the corner of the house, I quickly followed but as soon as I rounded the corner, it was gone as if it were never even here.

"Hello?" I called out, no response, I could smell the presence of another dragon but it's not a familiar scent, it's different from any dragons I know.

"Hmm?" I continued to look around, but found nothing, I turned around and saw a blue Nadder standing nearby in the corner, it was not a Nadder I have ever seen before.

"Hello there, have you seen the Kin who was here just now a few…"

"Yes and no" I could sense amusement coming from this Nadder.

"Who are you?" I asked, knowing full well that Dragons do not have names unless if they have renown or were named by a human.

"Good question indeed" He tilted his head slightly, "You can call me Dracon if you like" The strange dragon said.

"And your Shimmer, the dragon who can talk to Humans"

He quickly added.

"Yes… wait? How did you know my name and what I can…"?

I started to say before I realized something,

This dragon's scent is the exact same as the one from earlier,

I quickly took a step back.

"Well, nice meet you, but I have to go, we will meet each other again" The strange Nadder quickly flew off and away into the distance, drawing some dragon's attention.

I continued to watch the Strange dragon fly away.

The door to the house suddenly opened up as Aurora poked her head out and looked at me.

"Shimmer? Who were you talking to now…" Her expression turned to that of confusion for a moment, but she stayed silent.

"Just some strange Blue Nadder who called himself Dracon, how strange" I went over to Aurora and gave her a smile.

"There are many Nadder's on this island" Aurora said as she moved aside for me to enter the house.

I gently brushed my wings up against hers as I walked past her, my gaze fell upon the smooth purple egg laying among some soft grass and a few blankets I got from Valka

"You can go if you want to, I will watch the egg"

Aurora paused for a moment, "Okay, I will be back soon" She swiftly walked out before looking back as she closed the door and took flight

I looked back toward the egg's smooth surface, watching the light reflect off of the surface of the egg as the fire in the fireplace danced around, slowly burning away the firewood.
I laid down next to the egg and curled my tail gently around it a I rested my head on my front paws, silently listening to the crackle of the fire and the howling of the wind outside.

Aurora (POV)

I were flying toward the forest which was not very far away, I decided to go to the cove because I wanted to explore the area for a bit as I did not have much time to do so earlier.

I soon arrived at the large cove with the glistering clear lake, I landed next to a large boulder with some green moss on it and a few scratch marks from dragons over the years,
I suddenly noticed an odd scent which was the same as the one from the house earlier, I started looking around at the surroundings and noticed some movement on the other side of the cove.

It was a dark blue dragon with silver and black lines on the outer edges of his wings, it had its back turned toward me.

I silently went for the nearest cover to hide behind just to discover my scales have automatically started to blend in with my environment.

The dragon grunted out of frustration before continuing to write something in the dirt with a stick, I just then realized that this dragon is not like any normal dragon, it was writing something in the dirt like a Human would.

It suddenly threw the stick away as it whipped the dirt clean from writing as it stood up and turned around toward the lake,
I saw it's silver scales on its under scales and it's green eyes which was looking around it also had a strange amulet around its neck, I tensed up as it looked in my direction suddenly, It flew over to my side of the lake and sat down next to a fallen log.

"You come out of hiding now, I know your there" the dragon said, looking toward the lake

I hesitate for a moment, not sure what to do.

"I won't hurt you, you can come out and reveal yourself" It then looked back toward me with a friendly smile.

I slowly got out from cover, allowing my scales to turn back to normal green color.

I nervously stepped away from the bushes I were hiding behind.

"W-who are you?" I nervously asked

The dragon smiled
"You can call me Dracon, and your Aurora, am I correct?"

I paused for a moment, completely confused at this point, I noticed his scent is the same as that from the house earlier.

"How do you know my name and… why were you…" I suddenly got interrupted by Dracon

"At the house where you and Shimmer stay with the strange egg, well I'm searching for someone, but I ended up here on this strange… place" He pointed his left wing toward the direction of the Village

"Wait, you were the dragon Shimmer were talking to earlier… I thought he said you were a Nadder" I gave Dracon a confused look over.
"What are you anyways" I quickly added

He stood up and slowly walked over to the lake
"I'm like you, but in a different way as well"

He picked up a small stick and started to write in the dirt with it

"What you just said does not completely make sense… unless if you mean that you were also human once but underwent a change?" I shook my head in confusion

He chuckled
"Well, that is mostly it, but there is more to my story, but that is for a later time"
He looked up toward the sky and then back down toward the shadows on the ground
"You should probably get back to the village soon, I have a feeling that there is a storm approaching soon"

I slowly nodded for a moment, deep in thought before I snapped back to focus as I realized what Dracon just said

"What! A storm!?"
I quickly looked back toward Dracon just to discover that he's already gone

"What the…"
I Quickly looked around but found no trace of him until I saw the writing on the ground which was in Norse which reads

"Meet you two again after the storm, wait for the ships to come in"

"How does he know?"

I suddenly felt a cold breeze coming from the north, indicating the approaching storm
I quickly covered the Writing with a small stone and quickly took flight, heading for the Village again.

It did not take me long before I reached the house both Shimmer and the egg were in, I slowly opened the door and went inside and saw Shimmer fast asleep with the egg, Silverwing was also there, sleeping next to Shimmer, her back to the fire.

I silently closed the door behind myself and went over to the fireplace as I laid down across from them, watching the slow rise and fall of his wings…
I soon fell asleep listening to the crackling of the flames and the slow calm breathing of Shimmer and Silverwing, falling into the world of dreams…

Silverwing (POV)

I have decided to go and explore the two-legs den after my flight with Sir, I'm quite curious of their way of life, even though I'm not completely aware how my own kin's way of life is.

I flew around the buildings and at the same time being careful by not flying too close to some of the odd dens made from trees.

I heard a pounding nearby at one of the strange dens and decided to go see what the two-legs are doing.

Just as I landed in front of the strange den, I noticed that it's not like the other two-legs dens, but it had a chubby two-legs with a wooden stick leg and a strange fake hand who were busy hitting a piece of grey metal.

Nearby I saw a big kin who were sleeping peacefully next to a dying rock fire pit.
I watched silently as the Two-legs picked the piece of metal up and walked back to the fire pit before stopping.

"Grump! Ye let the fire die down again! Come on Grump" The Two-legs said as he stood there talking to the big lazy kin who just opened his eyes as it grunted

I started walking closer, knowing well enough what the Two-legs want

"Eh… Look like I have to do tis the Old Viking way" He stepped out of the way and turned around facing me

"Oh, hello their dragon, I din ne see ye there" He reached toward one of the hanging chains and pulled on it, I walked in and shot a bit of fire into the Fire pit place before looking back toward the strange Two-legs who now got a slightly confused expression.

"Why ye look at tha, I din had to ask ye, you just did wha I were about ta do, Thank ye much"
He went ahead and placed the piece of metal in the fire pit where it started to glow red hot from the heat

"I wonder what he's making" I asked half to myself, having forgotten that Grump was also there

"He's been making the metal pieces since the Two- legs Alpha came talking about something called Snoggletog, I think it's when the two- legs have their big feasts and build a big not real tree" Grump said

"Interesting, Two- legs are so weird"

Grump just grunted before falling asleep again

"Bye then" I quickly turned around and took flight as soon as the pounding of metal continued to which I decided to fly toward the forest where a few two- legs were busy cutting down trees.
I flew down toward the Two- legs and their kin friends who were also helping, I spotted a young two- legs also trying to cut down a tree but with allot more difficulty.

I went over to the little two- legs who stopped cutting down the tree as he saw me approach
A little terror kin was sitting by the two- legs feet

"Hello, what is the Two-legs doing?" I asked

"I don't know, maybe cutting down trees for fire to warm up their cave den" The little terror answered

"Hello there dragon" The two-legs said as he got ready to swing again, just to lose his balance and fell
"Aah! Ow…"

I helped the two- legs up and went over to the tree and used my tail to cut through the tree at the section where the two- legs were trying to cut it down.
The tree continued to stand but could easily fall over.

I motioned for the Two- legs to push on it.

"Wha? Umm… okay" He set his metal tree cutter down and pushed on the tree which suddenly toppled a bit and fell in the direction he was pushing

I continued to help the two- legs for a bit longer but eventually decided to head back to sire.
I flew back and landed just as I noticed the darkening sky to the north.

I went inside and found Sire sleeping alongside the strange egg.
I went to Sire and laid down next to him with my back to the fire place and drifted off into sleep…

The Stranger (POV)

Have been flying across the stormy Ocean toward the distant Island where the merchant ships have been docked for the night to resupply and to trade, I flew low to avoid detection as I sneaked onto the island which is called Outcast Island for some reason unknown to me.

I quickly slipped past a few guards who were half preoccupied by the merchant ships wares and trinkets, the merchant was a reasonably bearded fellow with dark rings below his eyes indicating a lack of sleep, I quickly changes forms from being a dragon to a slightly slender human with strange blue silky clothes that are slightly worn from use.

As soon as I saw the guards walk off away from the docks, I took my chance to confront the merchant.

"Greetings Traveler, how fare the seas?" Asked in an as polite tone as I could muster in this strange language I just recently learned.

"Oh, The weather is faring as expected on the most part, there are a storm brewing in the North west about, but I oath to blow over soon enough for me to continue on my may west"
The merchant said as he continued to write in a small book with a squid ink before continuing
"Oh feel free to look around and buy any wares you like, and at a reasonable price"

"I was actually thinking of asking for a ride to Berk if you intend on heading West"
I quickly said, getting to the point

The man stopped writing in his book to look up at me for a moment, his eyes fixed upon my clothes for a moment before he noticed my dark blue sword, he quickly looked up to meet my eyes as he spoke

"I do not normally take passengers aboard my ship… but I would at the right price…"

The man instantly went silent as I reached for my sword belt and extracted a few pieces of gold from my belt pocket which I handed to the merchant.

The Merchant went silent with his mouth open for a moment
"By Thor… Where… Umm… alright then… I hope you don't mind waiting for a few days as we wait for the storm to pass…" The merchant nervously said, occasionally eyeing the pieces of gold

"All is fine, I'm anyways on the lookout for a purplish blue dragon with Silver rimmed wings and silver horns with a silver underbelly" I gave the merchant a Questioning look

"Oh… I'm sorry but I haven't seen any dragon of that particular color before… to be honest, I haven't seen many dragons for the last few weeks, how odd hey?" The merchant looked away back toward his ship which was full of all kinds of items for trade.

"I will meet up with you again in three days' time, the storm will have died down by then"

I quickly turned away as I started to walk away toward the Village to find more Information and maybe have a talk with the chief if possible

At the end of the second day, I started to feel hopeless, the folk of this Island is not the brightest bunch and I can half understand why they are called outcasts.

And by the third day I were glad to be able to depart, even though it would have been faster to travel by air, it will be less suspicious if I arrive by boat, I would prefer to not be known for what I am too soon.

And Here I'm off, back to Berk on a merchant ship… a long agonizing trip by sea…

Shimmer (POV)

The early storm raged of for a few days with nearly no sign of stopping until early one morning when suddenly the storm started to calm down, and by early afternoon it have completely subsided for the time being.
Both me Aurora stayed Inside in the warmth, taking shelter from the terrible cold, we both were equally affected by the bitter cold which made our scales pale and unable to change color for the most part.

But the heat from the fireplace did help tremendously.

I were slow to wake to the sudden noise from outside, I opened my eyes and noticed that Aurora was also awoken by the sudden noise, she quickly looked over at the egg which was still motionless.

I reached over to gently touch the egg, it was still warm to the touch which was a relieve, I got up and noticed that Silver Wing was already gone.

"Hmm? Silverwing must have gone outside to see what everyone is doing"

"Maybe, she is a very curious dragonet" I looked back toward the dark purple egg with slight curiosity in her eyes
"I wonder how this one will be if she hatch" Aurora said with a slight smile

I gave Aurora an amused look
"She?" I inquired "You think it will be a female?"

Aurora shrugged. "I don't know, I got this feeling that it's a she…" She suddenly paused as we both heard a loud knocking on the door and Fishlegs calling. "Hello? Anyone in there?"

I quickly went over to the door and opened it, I instantly felt the cold from outside as I opened the door, I blinked a few times as I saw both Fishlegs and Meatlug outside.

"Greetings Fishlegs, what brings you here in this terrible cold?" I could see the excitement in him bubbling over as he quickly started to talk.

"I just found some notes of Bork which…" I Quickly stopped Fishlegs as I were unable to follow what He were saying

"Hey… Fishlegs, Calm down and start again from the beginning, but slower this time."

I stepped out of the way for him to enter, which he gladly did, Meatlug for some reason did not follow

"Sorry, I just got so exited after finding this..." Fishlegs placed a few papers on the ground with a few oddly drawn sketches, the drawings resembled that of a Night fury, but much more elegant with a different type of tail fin and wings, the dragon in the drawings looked familiar but I could not recall from where until I saw the drawing Fishlegs drew of the Dawn furies.

"Wait… is that what I think it is?!" Aurora suddenly out of curiosity came over to have a look, her eyes widened as she too recognized it as she quickly looked back toward the egg.

"Bork did not have much about them, but he did have a bit…" Fishlegs picked up a piece of paper with writing on it
"Here it says that this dragon is extremely rare and can only be found in the cold oceans on very remote island, the Island is slowly sinking into the oceans… Ah! It says that this dragon is mostly found in the oceans, but do occasionally resurface, able to take flight instantly from out of the water and have the unique ability to change its scale color, they have some sort of water proof lightning fire, this dragon is a Tibal class dragon…" Fishlegs stopped as He looked up toward me,

"Is there anything more like what it's named or…"

"No… that was it, nothing more other than a drawing" he said, still half exited

"Well, now we know more than we did" Aurora quickly added, breaking the short silence

"Indeed… Fishlegs, go tell the others, especially Valka…" I heard the noise again, sounding like Gobber hammering away at something "And what in Thor's name is going on outside?!" I looked past Fishlegs and noticed a big makeshift tree with a few shields on them

"Oh, everyone is getting ready for Snoggletog, care to join us? You can help if you like"

"Oh? I might as well, I'm quite curious but…"

I looked back toward Aurora who gave me a nod

"Go have some fun, I anyways dislike the noise, and do please close the door"

" Yes ma'am" I said in a mocking tone as I closed the door

I spent a few hours helping everyone set up the decorations and getting ready for Snoggletog, I Also to my surprise saw Silverwing helping out in the village.

Preparations went on until the next day as the merchants came into harbor to sell their goods.

Both me and Aurora were down by the docks having left Storm with the egg, we decided to wait down by the docks watching the trade ships come in, I saw a strange man garbed in some strange blue clothes with a blue sword to match and a strange amulet hanging from his neck, he were standing on one of the ships, his face showed no signs of surprise or nervousness, unlike the merchants who were uncomfortable about the dragons, Hiccup were also there talking to the merchant who were talking with a slight bravo in an attempt to sell some of his wares.

The stranger eventually left the ship after the crowd have dispersed, he politely greeted Hiccup and started talking to him about something I were unable to discern what it was, even with my heightened hearing.

I noticed that Toothless was also listening with unusual interest.

After a few more short exchanges I saw Hiccup get on Toothless and take flight heading toward the Great hall, the stranger looked in our direction with his forest green eyes as he started heading in our direction, I suddenly picked up his scent which smelled very familiar, Aurora gave a soft hiss a second later.

He stopped in front of us a with his hands behind his back as he spoke

"Greetings, Nice to meet you two again"

I gave Aurora a quick look as she did the same, confusion clear in her face

I looked back toward the stranger as I asked, "Again? What do you mean by again?"

The stranger chuckled but did not answer immediately as Aurora suddenly answered

"You know who we are…" Aurora went silent in thought; Orange purple coloration can be seen blooming all over her scales as she gave me a puzzled look which made me alert of what is currently transpiring

I spoke to Aurora quickly to ask her what she knows, speaking in dragon tough which all dragons understand. "Aurora, what is it you're not saying?"

She quickly replied in dragon tough
"I think he is a shifter, he's got the same scent as the Nadder and the other strange dragon, and his clothing is of same coloration of blue…" She gave the stranger a quick glance, noticing the apparent smile on his face.

" A Shifter?! Is that even possible…"

I suddenly noticed the stranger Nodding to my question which hinted that he understood what we just said.

I quickly turned my attention back to the stranger and spoke without changing back to human speech

"What might your name be?"

"You're very observant, my name is Draconigen, but you may call me Dracon."

"Wait… You can understand dragon speech?!" Aurora called out in surprise before she paused as the name struck her

I tensed up suddenly at my flight or fight responses kicked in

The stranger took notice and calmly took a step back as is hand suddenly fell upon his sapphire hilted blue sword.

Aurora immediately reacted as she saw the stranger's hand fall upon his sword, she shot a plasma shot at the stranger's feet, and to our surprise were able to jump out of the way with inhuman speed and drew his sword as he took up a defensive stance

"What do you want?!" Aurora suddenly said, anger in her voice

"Aurora… calm down" I quickly said

We suddenly saw a flash of silver as Silverwing came flying in and landed in front of us as she shot a tail spike toward the stranger who easily deflected the spike with his sword before he dashed toward Silverwing and jumped over her as he lightly touched her neck, before landing lightly on his feet facing us.
I whipped my tail around and across the stranger's legs in as attempt to hit his legs out from underneath him, but he easily jumped over my tail before landing back on his feet, The stranger then suddenly jumped to the side as Aurora shot a white bolt of fire at him, The stranger suddenly dashed at us and touched me on the neck before turning away as I snapped at him.

He stood there at the edge of the docks, Silverwing to his right and edge of the dock behind him, both me and Aurora were in front of him and I heard Toothless coming closer, calling commands for the other dragons to stand down, Silverwing also obliged at the command.

The stranger looked past me toward Toothless and to my surprise stepped off of the dock and fell into the water, neither me nor Aurora had chance to react before the strange blue dragon came flying out of the water and landed in front of us with his silver and black rimmed wings half open and his silver under scales on his chest shining in the sunlight and the strange amulet resting on his silver chest.

Both me and Aurora instantly recognized this dragon as the one from the house and the cove.

Here in front of us stands living proof of a real Shape shifter.

"Sorry for the Inconvenient first appearance…" The dragon shifter spoke, he stood slightly shorter than me and Aurora, but still much taller than any Viking

Toothless gave the stranger a questioning look before for a moment
"Why the fight?"

The stranger suddenly spoke before either me or Aurora could respond

"Sorry, it's all just a big misunderstanding, we just got off on the wrong…" The stranger paused suddenly as he looked back toward me and Aurora

"I… I guess the fault lies with me…" Aurora started

"No… we are all to blame, on the matter" I quickly added

Toothless just gave a slight nod before going back to the Village before Hiccup came looking for him.

The other dragons who were spectating the going's quickly departed as well

I stayed silent for an awkward few minutes with Aurora silently looking away out to the open expanse of the ocean
Dracon just stood there, not making a sound as if he were listening in on something.

I decided to break the long silence.

"Now… how are you able to change forms from human to dragon?" I asked out of curiosity

He paused for a moment before answering

"It's a long and confusing story… one I will explain later on… it's not a story I usually tell as it holds many upon a painful memory…"
He looked down toward the strange amulet

Aurora gave the stranger a long look

"Some interesting necklace you got there, have never seen anything quite like it before"

The stranger gave a slightly forced smile
"It plays partly its role in my story, more so than I care share at this point, but it's worth saying to never allow anyone to touch it…" Pain clearly showed in his face as he said the last sentence.

I looked over toward Aurora who seems to show contempt toward the stranger,

"Let us be off, we have to get back to the egg, I think Storm is wondering where we are at"

Aurora nodded "Let's go then" She opened her wings and quickly took flight heading back toward the village

I looked back toward Dracon who were still looking down toward his amulet

"Do you care to come along? No use staying here"

I also started to open my wings as I got ready to take flight.

"Oh… I will be with you lot soon, just give me a moment to gather my thoughts" He said as he shifted his gaze toward the distance

"Okay then" I took flight and went back toward the Village, many Villagers were about getting ready for their Snoggletog holiday, I flew over the village a bit as I made my turn back toward the house, I were surprised to find Valka there inspecting the egg a bit

"Oh hello there Valka, did not expect to find you here…"

"Oh sorry if I'm bothering, but it seems like the egg might hatch soon, and some dragon leave their eggs in hot springs to hatch, like some boulder class dragons whose eggs explode…"

Aurora gave Valka a startled look
"What?! Dragon eggs explode?!"

"Aurora, calm down, not all dragon eggs explode, it's mostly just some boulder class dragons and occasionally stoker class, but since this is a Tibel class…" I just realized something Valka just said about egg's hatching in water

"Tibal class most of the time hatches in water…"
Valka continued

"I guess I should get something with water in it to keep the egg in for the hatching"

Valka got up and started walking to the door
"I will arrange it" Valka said as she patted my shoulder on her way out

I have not been long before Valka returned and to my surprise were accompanied by Dracon who was yet again in his human form, I were a bit nervous now in his company and Aurora also shared the same nervous energy, but after a short period of time and a few exchanges of word, the nervousness slowly started to fade away, Dracon had a surprising amount of understanding of dragons and were able to confirm Valka's claim about when the egg might hatch, according to him it is due shortly before Snoggletog

Dracon took his leave not long before Valka after the egg were placed in the mildly warm tub of water.
After Valka's departure, I continued to stare at the shiny purple surface of the egg, the top surface still poking out from the surface of the water, but I noticed that the egg gained a slightly greenish shine to it after a moment, I did not think much of it at the time as I laid down, a bit exhausted from the day's activities.

Aurora surprised me today at the docks and now again when she silently without a word came laying down right next to me, intertwining our tails

I just placed my right wing over her, silently watching her fall asleep…

I too soon fell asleep, falling into the world of dreams…

After many seen and Unseen delays

I hope everyone had a great time, I was originally planning on finishing Chapter 12 before Christmas, but many unforeseen problems and delays happened

The next chapter are already planned far ahead and will possibly be posted soon
