Chapter 7 The Master leaves.
"Ma'am the patient in room 1089 needs your assistance." The nurse broke Misaki out of her reverie. "Mr. Dawson? Isn't he Riley's patient? Where is he?" Misaki stared at Yukimura. He was the only other Japanese male nurse in the hospital and he was amazing at his job, although a bit shy when it came to talking with men but he remains exceptionally calm under pressure. Exactly the kind of guy you need in your team during a crisis.
"He has been in surgery for the past ten hours; this is the longest surgery this hospital has ever seen" Yukimura said with enthusiasm, his eyes gleaning. Misaki was impressed; her own record was only eight hours. Eight hours of standing in the operating room without taking any break to eat or pee. It takes a toll on the body.
Misaki had wondered why she hadn't seen Riley since morning, she presumed that he had simply taken the day off to avoid her and sort out his thoughts. But Misaki should have known better, Riley isn't the type of guy who would run away from an awkward situation. He also wouldn't let anything compromise with his work no matter what the situation is. At times she believed that he was even more driven than her.
Once Riley was running a high fever but he still came to the hospital to check up on his patients. This was what attracted her to him in the first place. He can almost match her zeal when it came to being passionate about something you loved.
She wondered why she couldn't just love Riley, but her heart was a mess. This thing with Takumi was too complicated and she had a feeling that he was not going to give up on the baby, and as long as the baby was attached to her he was still in the picture.
Her heart ached again thinking about Takumi. She never got over him it seems. She kept telling herself that the reason she was such a mess was because he left her without any explanation so she never had any closure, but she highly doubts that's the case.
She still remembered like it was yesterday even though it was 4 years ago.
She had gone to his place to confront him about what was bothering him. Not only was he avoiding her but he had the audacity to tell her that it's something she can do nothing about. Usui was in Law School and Misaki was in Medical School and even though their schedules were always hectic they always made time for each other.
But wasn't she supposed to protect him? He had always magically materialized like the outer space alien he was whenever she was in trouble so the one time when he actually needed her, why couldn't he just let her help?
She was frustrated, so frustrated that she felt like crying. "I will bash that idiot today if he doesn't tell me what's going on with him" she said to herself facing the wooden door to his apartment. She was about to enter through his door but even after so many years she was nervous. She recalled that whenever she and Takumi would be alone in his apartment he would get very close to her and say all sorts of inappropriate things. They would do things that made her cheeks flush. "Concentrate Misaki, you can't be thinking about things like that." It seemed like she had also become a pervert. "Gaaah..."
She might as well slam her head against the wall.
So while she was standing at the door preparing for what she was going to say when she saw him, Takumi was grinning on the other side listening to his girlfriend talking to herself.
He wondered how long it would finally take her to finally have the courage to ring the damn doorbell. Finally after five minutes when he couldn't take it anymore he flung the door open and Misaki who was leaning against the door all this time fell right into his waiting arms.
"Oh Kaichou, this is a pleasant surprise" Usui said smiling against her hair still holding her tight into his arms. He knew it was just a matter of time before her embarrassment will take over and she wi push him away, but he tried to cherish each moment, God knows when he would get to see her again.
As expected Misaki tried to push him away with her arms, but he was being obnoxiously stubborn tonight, so they stayed like for she doesn't remember how long, until Takumi finally let her go.
She scampered away from him trying to remember what she was here for, whenever he touched her mind went blank. Honoka had told her that one should never lose themselves in love so much that they forget their own existence. But she liked losing her mind when she was around him. She was sure she was a self diagnosed control freak who needed everything a certain way but when she was with him she didn't mind giving up the reigns and letting him take over. Giving up control was scary but it was exhilarating too.
As she was trying to decide whether she should throw a K.O. punch at him for ignoring her or grab his collar and beat him till he decided to tell her everything, Usui walked towards her and sat beside her but didn't look at her, he was wearing his spectacles that made him look older than his age. Was he trying to avoid eye contact? She couldn't understand what he was thinking at all.
"Usui... I..." Misaki began to say something but he cut her off.
"I am sorry" His voice was pale; he was no longer the laid back character she saw at during their dates. This was someone who was going through a lot of hardships. Misaki wanted to help, to be there for him like he was there for her, and it made her angry to think that he didn't trust her enough to tell her things that were eating at his peace of mind.
He suddenly got up and looked straight ahead at the city lights from the window, he couldn't avoid her any longer, it was time he told her.
"I am going to Britain" he said in a soft voice. He expected a bombardment of questions from her; he also expected that she will punch him in the throat. But all he heard was a cool voice saying "I see".
Misaki knew about his family conditions, she also knew if he could tell her what was going on he absolutely would. She had a million questions in mind but she couldn't probe. Why did she suddenly feel like crying? Is this what Honoka meant?
"When are you leaving?" She asked in that same cool voice of hers.
Usui replied without turning "I wish I knew" He let out a sigh. He was doing this so that he and Misaki could finally be together but it actually seemed to drive them further apart.
He wanted to confront his family head on, he had decided that no matter what happened he would not give her up, but his English family would not leave her alone until he finally confronted them head on. It was time he cut off all his ties with the Walker family.
Misaki hugged him from behind "You have always taken care of me, even when I thought that I didn't need to be taken care of. But you should not worry about me when you leave, instead focus on what you have to do to come back as soon as you can".
Takumi was shocked. He didn't expect her to be so mature about this, and what's more she knew exactly what he was thinking, she knew that the only reason he hasn't gone back to England already was because he was worried about her.
He turned around "You are so sly Ayuzawa, makes me wanna attack you" He said with a smirk.
Misaki blushed a deep crimson red and tried to get as far as possible from him, but he wouldn't let her go. "I will bash you up you perverted alien, even during a time like this you are making jokes, I can't ..." she stopped speaking when she looked at him, he as looking at her with those eyes that made her knees weak.
He held her around the waist and bent down touching his forehead to hers. "I promise I will come to my beloved maid, no matter what", he noticed that her eyes were moist. He held her even tighter in her arms and kissed her from the depths of his soul, Misaki kissed him back with equal fervour needing to take in as much as she could of him. Their bodies pressed against each other while the city lights casted shadows on the walls.
That was the last time she would ever kiss him.
He left for Britain the very next day and the next time she heard about him was when Yukino send her a wedding invite with their pictures attached.
Author's Note- So posted a new chapter after a very long time. Few things I would like to clarify, I started writing my fanfics when I was still in school, now I am a Post Graduate student. It was a long journey and many things have changed, and my way of writing is definitely one of them. I feel it is a bit more matured. Even the way I look at love and relationships have changed, so some of you might find that this chapter is a bit different from the previous chapters. I am also going to edit the previous chapters and write them with a bit more finesse. The story will remain the same.
I also am not giving up on my fanfics, for those of you who have asked. Writing something is not very easy and it takes a lot of your time and I am swamped with work, still sometimes when I get your reviews after many days it reminds me that people are still waiting for me to finish. So I don't want to disappoint them.
Also, many of you prefer Riley, and yes he is absolutely gorgeous. But Usui is Misaki's first and only love.
I am grateful to my readers who still read this story. I love you.
Please read my other Fanfics too, especially The Hearts Matter.
And yes, don't forget to leave your reviews and tell me what you think? Should Misa end up with Riley? Should she abort the baby? Should she forgive Takumi?
You have to read to find out.
I will update Hearts Matter next.
