Chapter 16: Sadie Hawkins and the Talks

Tommy and Kim's House, Reefside

February 13, 2013

6 pm

Kim and Tommy were cleaning up the kitchen after supper when the phone rang.

Tommy ran to answer it.

"Hello?" Tommy said.

"Tommy? It's Elsa. I have a huge favor to ask of you, on such short notice," Elsa said.

"Did your chaperones cancel for the Sadie Hawkins dance and you need me and Kim to chaperone instead?"

"Wait, how did you know?"

"Really, you thought the Fosters would be good chaperones instead. You know they always cancel at the last minute for everything."

"You are right about that. So, will you do it?"

"You know Valentine's Day also happens to be Kim's birthday and I always have something special planned for that day every year, right?"

"Yes, I do."

"But you're in luck because Kim just informed me that I forgot to make the reservations at our favorite restaurant for tomorrow, so I have nothing planned for the first time in three years."

"Two years, honey. It's two, not three," Kim said.

"Oh, right. Anyways, we have nothing planned, so yes, we will chaperone the Sadie Hawkins dance tomorrow," Tommy said.

"Great! I'll put you down, thanks!" Elsa said as she hung up.

"So, do you want my credit card now or later?" Tommy asked Kim.

"Your memory sucks, Tommy. I already bought a dress two weeks ago for our "night" out, so I'll wear it to the dance tomorrow," Kim said.

"Okay, thanks for bruising my ego, I appreciate it."

"Anytime. It's a good thing we're going to the dance because JT and Amelia have been getting a little too frisky with Cody and Jess for my liking."

"You mean, as in knocking boots frisky or innocent frisky?"

"A little of both," Kim said.

"You know, I'm feeling the talks coming on."

"You do?"

"They've been sending us signs lately so I think it's time."

"When should we give them the talks?"

"Not yet. Catch them in a compromising position, then we'll talk to them," Tommy said.

"Compromising position, got you," Kim said resuming reading her book.

Just then Amelia and JT came in.

"Hey kids, how was studying?" Kim asked the twins.

"Good. What's up?" Amelia asked.

"What do you mean "what's up"?" Tommy asked.

"You two have those looks on your faces when you want to tell us something, so spill," JT said.

"Okay, you know that the Sadie Hawkins dance is tomorrow, right?" Tommy said.

"Yeah, so?" Amelia said.

"So, the Fosters bowed out at the last minute, so Elsa asked us if we wanted to be chaperones instead," Kim said.

Amelia and JT got looks of horror on their faces.

"Really, and what did you say?" Amelia asked.

"We said yes," Kim said.

"Um, me and Amelia gotta talk, in the kitchen, now!" JT said pulling Amelia into the kitchen.

When they thought they were safe, JT started to talk.

"This ruins everything!" JT said.

"What?" Amelia asked.

"Mom and Dad are chaperoning which means that we can't get to home base, if you know what I mean?"

"You mean, "home base" home base?"

"Yeah, that home base!"

Kim got a horrified look on her face and mouthed to Tommy, "I knew it!". Tommy's eyes flickered green and he cracked his knuckles.

By the time JT and Amelia got done talking, Kim and Tommy were livid.

"We're going to turn in. Good night," JT said as he hurried to his room, Amelia rushing to her room.

"I knew it! They're planning to get to home base tomorrow! We have to stop them!" Kim said.

"You're right, beautiful, but we have to actually catch them in the act first," Tommy said.

"Fine! We will, and when we do, they'll be grounded for two weeks!" Kim said as she went upstairs.

Reefside Banquet Hall, Reefside

February 14, 2013

9 pm

Kim and Tommy were sitting with all the chaperones at two tables surrounding the dance floor, watching as the young couples danced to the umpteenth slow song of the night.

"Tommy don't stare at them, you're making them uneasy," Kim said.

"I can't help it," Tommy said.

"We should just leave them alone, until they leave, then we'll be on them in a heartbeat," Kim said.

"Yeah, when they leave," Tommy said.

When 10pm came around the young couples started to leave in groups. JT, Jess, Cody, and Amelia were searching for Tommy and Kim. When they couldn't see them anywhere, they left the banquet hall.

Once they got outside they headed for the small park behind the banquet hall and found two benches. Underneath the benches were two blankets that JT stashed under them.

"Here, take this one, and I'll take this one. There's a secluded spot over there," JT said handing a blanket to Cody. They went over to the secluded spot and spread the blankets out on the ground.

Meanwhile, Tommy and Kim were trying to figure out where their children went off to.

"Wait, my links picking up something," Kim said as it was pointing her towards the park. Tommy followed her. When she got to the secluded spot, she gasped. Tommy quickly turned away.

Amelia and Jess were sitting in their bras and JT and Cody were nuzzling their necks.

"Amelia Caroline Trini and Jason Thomas William Oliver! Get dressed right this minute! We're going home, right now!" Kim shouted at her children.

"But Mom- "JT said.

"You heard your mother, get dressed now!" Tommy bellowed.

The four of them quickly got dressed and followed Tommy and Kim out of the woods.

The twins sat in the Jeep while Tommy and Kim talked to Edith and Peter Stephenson and promised they would give the talks to their children.

The drive home was rather uncomfortable for the twins.

Once they got home Kim said something.

"Sit on the couch. We have a lot to discuss," Kim said as she, Tommy, and the twins went into the house.

Once the twins were seated on the couch and Tommy and Kim seated across from them on the loveseat, Kim was ready.

"Okay, I know you guys think that going to home base is cool and everything, but one wrong move could cost you a lot," Kim said.

"How would you know?" JT asked.

"Because I was 15 when I went to home base with your father, who was 16 at the time. Of course he forgot to use protection and two months later I found out I was pregnant on my birthday, with you two."

"You had us when you were 16?" Amelia asked.

"Yes, without your father present. Instead a nurse named Abby stood in for your father, even cut your umbilical cords, which the father usually does. We've become great friends."

"Why wasn't Dad there?" JT asked.

"Because I never told him about you two until a month after you both were born. I didn't want him to give up his dreams. So your Grandma Dumas made me write a "Dear John" letter to him and made me send it to the youth center."

"You broke up with Dad in a letter? That's harsh," Amelia said.

"It was, but it was either that or your Grandma forging her signature on the paper giving up my parental rights. I couldn't lose you two to complete strangers and betray your father, so I did what I had to do."

"But why didn't you just give us up, or have an abortion?" JT asked.

"Didn't I just say why? Look, I was taught at a very young age that if you do something wrong, you have to face the consequences of your actions, so I carried you two to term because abortion was forbidden by my family, as well as our religion, so I had no choice. I really didn't want to have all the guilt that comes with having an abortion plus your grandma wouldn't agree to it."

"Where is Grandma Dumas now?" Amelia asked.

"She died six years ago. You never got to meet her. She didn't want to have anything to do with me or you two. We had an opportunity to see her after she was diagnosed with terminal Breast Cancer, but I never returned her calls. I regret my choice, and I will have to live with that for the rest of my life."

"Was she nice?" JT asked.

"Yes, she was, until she found out I was pregnant."

"Why was she so cruel?" Amelia asked.

"She had her reasons. No mother wants to see her child give up her dreams for a baby at sixteen, so she was disappointed to say the least."

"How did Grandma and Grandpa Oliver take the news?" JT asked.

"They were angry at first, then your Grandma cried happy tears. Grandpa made me get a job to support your mom and you two or else he was going to kick me out," Tommy said.

"Grandpa Hart probably reacted the same way, right?" Amelia asked.

"Yes he did, but he believed that me and your father would be good parents, so he gave his blessing, along with your Uncle Kenny," Kim said.

"Your Great-Grandpa Sam and your Uncle David reacted the same too. They also believed that me and your mom would be good parents too, so they gave us their blessings," Tommy said.

"So everyone except Grandma Dumas was on board?" JT asked.

"Yes, they were," Kim said.

"Okay, maybe going to home base doesn't sound so glamorous when other people talk about it. I think I'm going to wait until I have a career," JT said.

"Me too. I have a lot of dreams to achieve and I don't want to lose them because of a baby," Amelia said.

"I think you two are finally getting it. Well, I'm going to bed, and you two should, too," Kim said yawning.

"Me too," Tommy said also yawning.

"Okay. Good Night, Mom, Dad," JT said as he headed to his room.

"Night, Mom, Dad," Amelia said giving her parents kisses on their cheeks.

"Night, kids!" Kim and Tommy said in unison. Kim then turned to Tommy.

"Will they be okay, Tommy? I hope I didn't sound too scary," Kim said.

"They'll be fine, beautiful. You told them what it was like for us as teenage parents, and I think they get the consequences of going to home base too early. They'll be fine, promise," Tommy said.

"I love you, handsome," Kim said.

"I love you too, beautiful," Tommy said kissing her on the forehead.
