Chapter 16: The Big Family Dinner
Jace woke up still feeling sticky from last night – he had fallen asleep with Alec's knot inside of him, so when it had come loose, he had been asleep. Making a face, he stretched out. As soon as he moved, he was kissed on the shoulder. Smiling, he turned a little.
"Morning, parabatai", whispered Jace, earning himself a proper kiss.
"Morning, my omega", hummed Alec pleased. "Will you keep Magnus company for me? I gotta go to work. Don't wanna wake him, he has had a long day yesterday even without our little..."
Jace laughed at the way Alec's cheek's reddened, though then he nodded. "It's my day off. Dinner at the Lewis household tonight. Si texted me. He... wants to... introduce me to his mom..."
Now it was Jace's turn to blush, because the thought did make him nervous. "You'll be fine. She's gonna love you. And afterward, you're going to the club, right?"
Jace nodded in confirmation. Today, no work at the Institute, but the club. He really hoped tonight would be a success. The past few times he had gone, nothing. It made him tense, it annoyed him. Since his mission had started, another omega had disappeared – but nothing had given him a lead there and back then he hadn't narrowed down the suspects at all. Now that he had a good grasp on who may be the culprit, nothing. They were due to strike again soon though. One per month disappeared, on the average. Not too many to raise suspicion. Sometimes, more, but never less. Granted, Raphael had still noticed in the end, but they had gotten away with it for a long time.
"You'll do fine, love", whispered Alec one last time, kissing Jace softly.
He got out of the bed and grabbed a couple clothes. Before he headed to the bathroom, he rounded the bed to press a gentle kiss to Magnus' forehead. The warlock hummed in his sleep, but didn't wake. Smiling, Jace snuggled up to Magnus, falling asleep again with the faint sound of the shower running. By the time he woke again, Alec must have been long gone.
"Mh... I like this. Waking up with my omega in my arms", whispered Magnus pleased.
He was nosing Jace's hair, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "Mh, me too. Woke up with two of my alphas, but one dared to go to work instead of stay and cuddle with us. Can you believe it?"
Magnus laughed softly at that, running his knuckles over Jace's side. The motion soothed Jace, made him purr pleased. For a while, the two just laid together, Jace tracing symbols onto Magnus' torso – runes. He traced the parabatai-rune onto Magnus' hip, the love-rune onto Magnus' chest.
"I have a couple meetings after noon", mused Magnus, looking at the clock. "Mh, that still leaves me with two hours to just... lay here with you. Unless you have places to be."
"Nope. Babysitting Madzie after school's out for her, because Luke and Catarina both have to work today. Date night with Si and Raph and after that, the club", hummed Jace.
"Perfect", whispered Magnus, kissing Jace's cheek. "Would you like breakfast?"
"Maybe after... other activities", countered Jace, hand wandering down Magnus' body. "Mh?"
Magnus made a small noise of surprise at that, before he laughed. Jace's fingers wrapped around Magnus' dick, caressing it as it slowly hardened. Magnus' fingers found their way to Jace's neck, entangling in Jace's hair as he pulled Jace in for a slow kiss.
"You did say so yesterday", noted Magnus pleased. "If you're up for it... I would be."
"I can feel that", whispered Jace teasingly, sitting up as he jerked Magnus a few times. "Lube."
Magnus hummed, summoning the lube for Jace. When he attempted to roll them over, Jace was pinning him in place. Smirking like a shark, Jace kissed along Magnus' neck, his hands now running up Magnus' arms, pinning him by the wrists. His eyes sparkled with intend.
"Will you give up control to me today, alpha?", asked Jace in a hushed voice. "I love submitting to you. I love it a lot. But I wanna ride you. I want you right where you are, beneath me."
"I'm all yours, my love. Do with me whatever you want", offered Magnus willingly.
The grin on Jace's lips turned even more mischievous as he grabbed the silken band from Magnus' robes and used it to tie Magnus' wrists to the headboard. The alpha flashed golden eyes at that, intrigued by his omega's boldness. This was new. Jace knew that. Well, it wasn't for him, he used to do this sort of thing a lot before he met his alphas. And while he thoroughly enjoyed submitting to them, it had been a while since he last got his kicks on the field. He wanted to feel in charge today.
"Alec says you like being tied up as much as you like tying up", hummed Jace. "So—o..."
Magnus laughed. "As I said, I am all yours, my love. Though..."
With a snap of his fingers did Magnus summon the cowboy hat from last night. If Jace was going to ride him, he really should look the part. Laughing softly, Jace adjusted the hat and then grabbed the lube. He started prepping himself, though he was still loose from Alec's knot last night. When he was feeling well-prepared, he pulled out and climbed Magnus. Resting his hands on that well-defined chest, feeling the taunt muscles beneath his finger-tips. Slowly, he lowered himself onto the hard cock of his alpha. His eyes rolled back in bliss. He had missed sex. There was something to it, the physical connection. To share this with his beloved was... far more intense than any one-night-stand he could ever have. He felt connected to Magnus on an emotional level already, but now, having the alpha inside of him? Bending down, Jace kissed Magnus fiercely, passionately, while slowly lifting himself off. He moaned as he brought himself back down on Magnus' dick. Quickly, he started to pick up the pace, greedy for his alpha's cock. A few times, Magnus tugged on his bounds, just to huff in frustration and offer Jace a bemused smile.
"You're mine now, alpha", purred Jace pleased, biting Magnus' collarbone. "My alpha."
Magnus shuddered, arching up as Jace moved faster and harder. The alpha's knot started to swell and Jace brought himself down hard, driving it into himself before it could catch. The feeling of Magnus' knot swelling inside of him, stretching him so impossibly wide – that was the feeling he had wanted, the thing that had been so mind-blowing last night – was enough to make Jace come, even untouched, spraying his cum over Magnus' chest. He leaned down to kiss up Magnus' chest, lick off as much of the cum as he could reach from his position. Meanwhile, he was still rolling his hips, coaxing the orgasm out of the alpha beneath him. With a drawn out moan did Magnus come, hands straining as he clawed them around the headboard.
"Naughty, little omega", gasped Magnus with a small pout. "Not letting me touch..."
"You're cute when you pout", hummed Jace amused, kissing Magnus. "Good alpha."
Placing a kiss on Magnus' nose, Jace untied him. He very carefully curled together on top of Magnus, mindful of the knot tying the two of them together. It wasn't the most comfortable position, but Jace could endure it until the knot would deflate. Especially after Magnus started running one hand over Jace's spine, his other hand reached out for Magnus' phone on the nightstand. The warlock laughed delighted, prompting Jace to look up in confusion.
"Alexander says: How dare you have fun with our omega while I have to be in a meeting", read Magnus with a bright smile. "Seems that our darling has felt us through the bond."
"Mh... take a picture of us and send it to him?", suggested Jace amused.
Both turned a little, Jace's head on Magnus' chest, under his chin, both naked and sweaty as they smiled into the camera. Alec was going to pout a lot about this. But they had said that he had a right to have one on one fun with them all too. And he had had his first time with Alec without Magnus.
"I love you", whispered Jace softly. "So... what... What are you going to today? Aside from meetings? I feel like you've been burying yourself in work and in, well... me."
"I am buried in you right now, that's true", laughed Magnus, smacking Jace's butt once.
"Not what I meant", huffed Jace amused. "You were so busy courting me, I feel like you didn't do a lot for yourself lately... Tell me about your plans, tell me there's plans, Mag."
Magnus smiled at him, caressing his back. "Well, if you say it like that... You know what, yes. I will steal Catarina and I will invite Lorenzo and we'll go have cocktails tonight."
"Good", hummed Jace pleased, kissing Magnus' brows.
/break\
"Si. What are you doing here? Luke asked me to babysit Madz."
"I was fretting too much about tonight. Raph kinda... kicked me out of the meeting, said I was making everyone nervous", sighed Simon with a pout. "So, I figured, I'd check in with my other favorite. But when I looked for you in the Institute, Clary told me it was your day off. And when I reached the loft, Magnus was... very annoyed with me for bothering him while he was with a client and then he told me you were off babysitting Madzie. So... here I am."
While Simon talked, Jace hugged Madzie and lifted her up onto his shoulders. "Got it. So... you wanna help me babysit Madz? That's great. We can actually play games if it's three of us, mh?"
"Ya—ay", yelped Madzie pleased, arms around Jace's neck.
Jace smiled and leaned in to kiss Simon's cheek. It was so nice to spend time with his alphas. Together the three made their way to the Garroway-Loss household, unlocking the door with Jace's key. He had a key. Because, after everything that Jace had been through, especially with his family, Luke wanted him to feel at home, feel like he was always welcomed here. However, he did only use it when he knew no one was home. Did not need to walk in on Cat and Luke doing other things.
"Okay, Madz. You go, put your backpack away and wash up. I'll prepare us some sandwiches."
He put Madzie down and watched her run off, smiling to himself. He then made his way to the kitchen, together with Simon. It was nice, working with him. Simon knew his way around the kitchen pretty well, after all Luke had been a father-figure to Simon all his life; he was just as welcomed here as Jace was. The two of them walked well together, slicing and toasting bread, getting everything out and switching spots to lay everything on them.
"We're a pretty good team", commented Simon as he put the cheese on.
Jace hummed in agreement and leaned in to kiss Simon's cheek. "You're nervous about tonight. Does that mean you... think your mom's not going to like me?"
Simon nearly dropped the cheese, before he caught himself. "What. No. You're... You're amazing, Jace. I love you. Raph loves you. Mom and Becky are so gonna love you. I'm just... I don't know. It's a big step, so it makes me nervous. Definitely not because I think you'll be disliked."
That made Jace smile a little. Though the moment was disturbed by Madzie running in. The three of them sat down at the table to eat together. It felt so... domestic. And something about taking care of Madzie with one of his chosen alphas made it feel all the more domestic, made his heart feel heavy, in the best possible way – it felt full. Sitting in the living room afterward and playing board-games only made that feeling all the more intense. He smiled as Simon dramatically lost to Madzie.
"No—o, she has bested me once more", sighed Simon, handing over his gold coins.
"Treasure", hummed Madzie pleased. "Uncle Magnus says to always collect the treasure."
"Your uncle Magnus is a bit of a dragon", agreed Jace playfully, smiling.
Jace wanted children. He had told his alphas so before, but right here, right now, playing games with Madzie, taking care of her, it made a longing grow inside of Jace. They were living in times of peace now, he was being courted by four amazing alphas. He'd... like to have a family. Raise a child of his own, with all the love he hadn't gotten as a child. With mates who loved him and his child.

Raphael had gotten a text from Simon to pick him and Jace up at the Garroway-Loss household. It seemed that after babysitting, they had gotten roped into 'just one more game' after Luke had gotten home. The thought had made him smile, but what he found made him feel warm. Seeing both Jace and Simon happy and carefree, laughing... it was the best thing he could picture.
"I'm afraid I have to steal your companions now, Madison", noted Raphael amused.
"That's unfair", huffed Madzie with a pout. "You'll come back to play with me again?"
"Of course we will, buttercup", smiled Jace as he hugged her. "Be good for mom and dad, yeah?"
"She always is", called Catarina out from the bedroom. "Thank you, again."
She had only just gotten home after her shift too, it seemed. Raphael liked this; this sense of community. Relying on each other. They were an unorthodox family, that much was for sure, but somehow they were, on many different levels – Catarina was like a sister to Magnus, who was like a father to Raphael, Luke was like a father to Clary, Simon and Jace, Isabelle was Alec and Jace's sister. It was a messy family tree, but they were a familiar pack and as such, they supported each other. Raphael offered Cat a smile as she poked her head out for a moment.
"Have fun tonight. Give Elaine my best", ordered Catarina with a smile of her own.
The triad bid their goodbyes and left. By now they really had to hurry. Maybe Raphael had gotten too distracted watching Jace and Simon with Madzie. With a child. A different kind of family. Raphael loved the unorthodox family they had, but he would also like a family of his own, with his mates. He had been thinking about it ever since Jace had brought it up.
"Simon and I talked about what you suggested the other day", started Raphael gently.
"Now?", asked Simon surprised, earning a look from Raphael. "Okay. Now's a good time."
That made Raphael smile a little as he laid one arm around Simon's waist. Jace was walking on his other side. This was nice, having both of his lovers next to him like this, walking in the pink of the evening sun. It was so romantic, so peaceful. Raphael enjoyed the peace.
"We... would want children too. If you do", continued Raphael. "I had never considered it before, but I know it's important to you and I also know it's important to Magnus. I will support you in this and whatever child you have with whatever alpha of yours, I will love like they're mine."
"Yes. Me too", confirmed Simon, nodding widely. "Precious little blonde angels!"
"There is no guarantee any kid will turn out blonde", pointed Jace out amused. "Look at the Lightwoods. The dark hair and those dark, brown eyes are rather dominant."
The three ceased their conversation as they approached the Lewis house. Better not talk about children anywhere near Elaine, she might start to expect something that may not happen for years. Raphael slipped his hand into Jace's, running gentle circles over the omega's wrist to sooth him. They rang the doorbell and waited in tense anticipation. Though Raphael was the only one not tense. Elaine and him had gotten along since before Raphael and Simon had started dating, she adored him. And Raphael knew very well that she was going to adore Jace too.
"My sons!", declared Elaine as she opened the door, first hugging Simon, then Raphael.
That had embarrassed Simon the first few times, until Raphael had reassured him that he didn't mind. It had been a long time since he had a mother. The fact that Elaine opened her home and her family to him like this warmed his heart. Jace's tenseness radiated off him in the form of his scent souring, it intensified when Elaine and Raphael parted from their hug and she turned to look at him. Raphael and Simon had already laid the ground-work. They had explained all about alphas and omegas to the mundane woman, had explained mate-bonds and also triads and courting. Now, it would show how well all of that had sunken in and how willing she was to accept their choices.
"You", started Elaine, pausing. "I've seen you before. A lot. You brought Isabelle to her meetings a couple of times and I saw you at Luke's, with Clary. So you are Jace, mh?"
"I... Yes, I am, ma'am. It's a pleasure to meet you." Jace smiled and took her hand.
She was faster, pulling him into a hug. "If you ever call me ma'am again, there will be consequences. I'm Elaine. Don't make me sound old. Now come in, it's cold out there. Why aren't you wearing a jacket? Simon, why is your boyfriend not wearing a jacket? You should have given him your jacket. You're an undead now, right, you don't actually feel cold, you said so yourself when I chided you about not wearing a jacket the other day. Really now."
She rubbed Jace's upper arms and glared at her son. Raphael smiled softly as he watched both Jace and Simon stare at her like deer in the headlights but for vastly different reasons.
"It was only a short walk, Mrs—I mean, Elaine. And it's on me. I didn't take a jacket when I picked Madzie up from school today", assured Jace with a smile. "Thank you, for the invitation."
"Thank me?", huffed Elaine, motioning at Simon. "I've wanted to meet you for a while now, this one here kept dodging me. Ashamed of his poor mother, I'm sure."
She sighed, while Simon winced. "I wish she'd not lay so heavy on the guilt."
"You have a Jewish mother, you should not ask for the impossible", declared Elaine pointedly. "Come, move it along, dinner is getting cold. Cold like your boyfriend."
She offered Simon another pointed glare, which only made Raphael laugh softly. He loved the Lewis family. In the dining room, they found Rebecca bringing the last of the meal out to the set table. She offered them a broad grin, most likely having looked forward to seeing Simon squirm about boyfriend number two. After she put the food down, Raphael stepped up to her to kiss her cheeks left and right. When Raphael turned around again, Jace was wearing a sweater.
"I have no idea where she got that from", whispered Simon softly. "But Jace looks cute in my old Hanukkah sweater, right? Red definitely is his color."
Jace ducked his head, straightening the sweater he had apparently been forced into. The five of them sat down together to start eating before it got cold. Raphael knew better; that would only lead to more guilt on Simon. Jace's nervousness seemed to ease some. Not just because of the warm reception, but also because of the sweater. The omega was now surrounded by the scent of one of his alphas, that had a naturally soothing effect on him.
"Now, let me start this off by saying: I don't entirely understand all of this", admitted Elaine. "The boys explained it some but... it's admittedly a lot. The matebond is... a sacred bond, your... marriage. And from what I understand, they're courting you, which is essentially like... an engagement. Which implies you'll be my son-in-law by the end of this? But they also said they're not the only ones courting you, so... I'm a bit confused. Are you, or are you not, engaged to Simon and Raphael?"
"I... am", confirmed Jace, squirming only a little bit under her gaze.
They started eating, though Jace mostly poked the food as he still held eye-contact with Elaine like they were having a staring contest. Rebecca sighed and patted her mother on the back.
"Mom, ease off a little. The poor guy looks like he's in an interrogation room."
"I'm just... curious. That engagement with the other people...", started Elaine.
"Is also still on", offered Jace reluctantly. "It... It's kind of like this. Simon has two boyfriends. Me and Raphael. Only... that Raphael and I are also together. I just... have... two more boyfriends, who are also dating, but who aren't dating Simon and Raphael."
"...Okay. That... is interesting", nodded Elaine slowly. "As long as you all know about this and know where you stand with each other and are happy with this arrangement."
"We are", assured Raphael and reached out to take Jace's hand.
"Good", nodded Elaine with a small smile. "Now, Simon also says you're an angel."
Simon choked on his food at that, coughing violently. "A half-angel, it's what their race is."
"Like Clary", continued Elaine, ignoring her son. "Can I see your wings? Or is that considered a rude question? I just... they amaze me. Your... existence amazes me. Do you understand the existential crisis I had when Simon to me he met Cain? The Cain?"
"...Right", whispered Jace, nodding slowly. "Between... having faith in something there is no definite proof of and actually seeing the definite proof, that must have been..."
"Yes, it was ", confirmed Elaine, rubbing her forehead. "It's a lot, really."
Jace offered a kind smile and then unfolded his wings. It never ceased to take Raphael's breath away. Those golden-white wings, so pure. When Raphael had become a vampire, he never thought he would get to be close to something as pure and holy. But he too understood the impact this world had on one's faith. It was one of the first things him and Elaine had bonded over, when he had first gotten together with Simon and the two of them had explained things to Elaine, with Luke and Clary's help. Even if their faith may be different, the shock had been the same.
"My son's engaged to an angel", whispered Elaine in awe. "I wish I could tell the other women at the temple about this. I know, I know, I can't, mundies aren't supposed to know. But still..."
Jace blushed, though with a pleased and proud expression. He felt the way Raphael had felt back then. Accepted. Elaine had that effect on them, it seemed. Rebecca all the while was just staring at Jace, still. In complete awe. Which was understandable.
"How", started Rebecca. "How did my nerdy, dorky goofball of a little brother score not just all of that hotness over there, but now this... underwear model literal angel. I just... how."
Simon made an offended noise at that, but Raphael and Jace could just laugh.
/break\
"Thank you for the lovely evening, Elaine", smiled Jace as he hugged her goodbye.
"Don't be a stranger. Come by again. Make that unfaithful son of mine come over more often."
She hugged him tightly before moving on to Raphael and lastly hugging Simon. Her hug with her son lingered, squeezing him. He smiled, whispering something into her ear. Most likely a thanks, guessed Raphael. The evening had been lovely and she had been very open-minded and accepting of them and of Jace. Both vampires knew Jace had quite some insecurities, especially about romance and also about family. Parents, more specifically. Meeting Simon's mother had made him incredibly nervous. While Elaine was hugging Simon, Rebecca was hugging Jace.
"We're going out for drinks some time. Izzy, she's your sister, right? Yeah. We're going out for drinks some time, all three of us. And you two will help me find a pretty angel of my own."
"Can't be too hard, with a gorgeous girl like you", offered Jace charmingly.
"I really like this one and I really don't understand how Simon landed you guys."
Again, Simon made an offended noise. Raphael soothed him by pulling him close, pressing a gentle kiss against Simon's temple. Rebecca and Elaine waved them goodbye as the triad left.
"So... was it as bad as you imagined?", asked Simon teasingly, smiling.
"It... It was nice", offered Jace reluctantly. "I like your mom. She's nice. She... loves you a lot."
There was a sadness in his eyes and both Raphael and Simon knew where it came from, so they both reached out for their omega to hold him gently, Raphael with an arm around his waist and Simon by holding Jace's hand. Jace sighed softly and leaned against Raphael's side.
"Are you still up to go to the club tonight? We'd all understand if you'd rather go home, solecito."
"Raph. Date night isn't a reason to skip on work", huffed Jace. "I'm fine. Very full, very sated and happy. I'll just go to the club, work. Are... you going to be there too?"
"Not me", replied Simon. "Clary, Maia and Bat actually insisted that I should go out with them tonight. We're going to the Hunter's Moon. They claim I've been neglecting them because I was chasing a 'pretty piece of ass' – Maia's words. So..."
"I'll be there", hummed Raphael, pressing a kiss to the top of Jace's head.
"Mh... then I'll be going home with the boss tonight", whispered Jace pleased. "Mag's out with Cat and Lorenzo tonight. While he's... very good at staying sober, he gets pouty when he spends the night with people who get to still drink. May Alec deal with pouty Mag."
"I'm looking forward to it, angelito", smiled Raphael.
"Ye—es. Very much looking forward to coming home to you both", agreed Simon, kissing first Jace and then Raphael. "You two, work hard. I'll party hard and see you later. Love you both!"
With that, he ran off, toward the Institute to pick up Clary, while Raphael and Jace continued toward the club. They reluctantly let go of each other a few blocks away and Raphael stole a last kiss before he went ahead. They couldn't be seen coming there together.
/break\
Jace was drinking and flirting with an alpha whose name escaped him right now. A newbie, nervous. The two of them got up and went to the backroom together after a while. It may be good, to give him perspective. He could watch his suspects from inside the backroom, but he needed an alpha to go along with him there. And with only Raphael at the club, that wasn't possible; going with the owner was too much attention if he wanted to catch someone in the act. His eyes were trained on Tobias McKay the whole time. He knew, deep down in his guts, this was his doing. He watched Tobias with the omega of choice of the evening, Anna Morgan, the warlock girl.
"Did you have fun?", asked the alpha Jace had been with when their session ended.
"Yes. You did great", chuckled Jace amused. "I'll just... go out, get a bit of fresh air."
The alpha looked confused, but Jace couldn't concern himself with that. Anna and Tobias had left through the backdoor. The backroom had another exit, usually used for those who needed some air or a cigarette after a session. Still, the way Tobias followed Anna... Jace was careful, waited until the door closed behind them before he followed outside. There was no one outside aside from them. As the door fell close behind Jace, there was a yell. Anna. Immediately, Jace threw caution out the window and rushed ahead to save Anna from becoming the next victim.
"So gullible."
Jace froze at the cold note in her voice. Only for a moment, but long enough for Tobias to attack him. He immediately reacted, but there had still been a delay. The vampire strength made the fight harder than it had to be and Anna helped with some neat little magic tricks that blinded him – that turned his blade into a bouquet of flowers. She approached him with a smile as Tobias hit him hard over the head, so he saw two Annas approaching him, at least until blood dripped into his eyes.
"I knew your savior complex is what'd help us get you", hummed Anna delighted.
She opened a portal, it was the last thing Jace saw before he passed out from the head injury.
/break\
"Boss. Jace has been outside for a while now", noted Hal, getting Raphael's attention. "He left through the backdoor like fifteen minutes ago. That's... longer than fresh air. You take over the monitors for a bit so I can check on him? Maybe he had another panic-attack."
Raphael appreciated how fond the tall, bald wolf had grown of Jace. "No. I'll go myself."
He had been kept so busy with new sign-ups today, he hadn't been able to watch Jace himself. Fifteen minutes was a lot. They had no cameras observing the backroom itself, but one watching the door out back. Raphael quickly made his way there. He frowned as he found no one any where in the ally. Now, normally, it wouldn't be strange to perhaps leave. Not a reason to be alarmed, however Jace had said that he was going home with the boss today. And Hal was in on the mission; he knew that Jace never left without at least checking in with Raphael first. Raphael frowned as he walked a few steps, just to find a bouquet of red camellias. Next to it, a few drops of blood. Raphael's own blood ran cold as he caught the scent of the blood. Jace.
"No. No, not Jace", whispered Raphael tensely.
Of all the omegas at the club... Had Jace gotten in the way of an abduction? Did they know he was trying to arrest them? That'd be a death sentence. Or had they taken him? As just another abductee? Raphael quickly grabbed his phone, dialing while running toward the Hunter's Moon.
"Alec. We need back-up here. Go get Magnus. They... They took Jace. He's gone."
Author's note: Don't ask me, but Jace wanted to be in charge and Mag was... very along for the ride (I'm not sorry for that pun). ALSO yay! Kidnapping! Cliffhanger! Next up, fretting alphas and Jace whump! ;D
