Chapter 8: First Word

Agent 3 sighed as she got up that day, seeing Marina looking at her with a smile. "How are you doing, Yumi?" She asked.

"Better today," she replied before looking over at the crib, but didn't see her daughter.

"Pearl is watching her in the living room," the teal Octoling said. "She actually found something that she thought would look cute on Saki."

The Inkling followed her friend and had to smile as the singer had the baby in her lap and the baby was banging her hands on a bongo set, laughing as she did so. As 3 drew closer, she saw what her daughter was wearing and had to smile.

Her baby wore a black onesie with pink trim and in pink and blue outling were the words 'I'm A Rockstar' and a guitar outlined in the same colors. The baby also had a cute pink headband on that had a big pink flower on it with a white gem in the center.

Pearl, having not seen them yet, smiled at the baby. "You got it, girl! Hit those drums!" She said excitedly. "Show Auntie Pearl how it's done!"

Saki, as if understanding, hit the bongos again, laughing happily as she kept it up, her legs kicking happily as she bounced in her aunt's lap. "Oh, yeah! Look at you go, baby!" Pearl said, her excitement palable. "You're a born rockstar!"

Agent 3 was trying not to laugh too loudly as she didn't want to interrupt the moment and she saw Marina was filming it with a smile. "This is so worth filming and saving to show Saki when she's older," she said.

"Oh, yes it is," the mother said.

Pearl then picked up a microphone. "Are you ready to raise the roof?!" She asked enthusiastically.

The audience on the television cheered and that was when 3 realized that it was a game where you built a band and sang to an audience and the game had a list of objectives to complete. Pearl nodded. "Alright, we got a special drummer today, so let's drum up the beat!"

The song began and Saki surprisingly picked up on the rhythm quickly, hitting the bongos at the right time as Pearl sang.

"My niece might be small, but she is strong,

Don't you dare tell me that I'm wrong,

She's got it all, rhythm and beat,

Listen to how she plays neat!"

She looked at the baby. "Give those bongos all you got, sweetie," she said.

The baby hit the bongos and laughed as the audience cheered louder.

"Oooh, yeah! That's what it's about!

Don't let be any doubt!

She's not crawling yet, but you wait,

Once she does, she's not going to be late!

She's my niece and she's the coolest girl!

Music and her family are her whole world!

Keep playing, baby, don't you ever stop!

You're going to come out on top!"

Saki giggled and lifted up her hands, bouncing in Pearl's lap again before she went back to playing, giggling as the song kept going.

"She's my niece and the best one of all!

With us and her family, she'll have a ball!

Nothing's going to stop this girl, no way!

She's going to the top, hey!"

The song ended and Saki giggled as Pearl picked her up and nuzzled her nose against the baby's nose. "Auntie Pearl is so proud of you!" She said. "Wait until we show your mommy."

"I already saw," said 3, coming into the living room with a smile.

Hearing her mother, Saki squealed happily. "Mama!" She cried out.

The whole room froze and time seemed to slow down. "Did...Did she just say her first word?" Marina asked in awe before a smile lit up her face.

"Yeah, she did," said Pearl, also surprised.

The Inkling went over to the singer and her baby. "Saki, did you speak, sweetie?" She asked hopefully.

The baby reached for her and giggled. "Mama!" She said loud and clear.

With tears in her eyes, the mother picked her up. "Oh, sweetie, Mommy's so proud of you!" She said, excitement filling her as her baby said her first word.

Marina smiled. "Guess she's heard us all refer to you as her mother that she finally decided to try it out," she said.

"This is awesome!" Pearl said, jumping up. "Not only does my awesome niece play the drums for the first time, she says her first word!" She looked at Marina and pointed at the phone in her hands. "Please tell me that thing is still recording."

"It's still recording," the teal Octoling said. "We caught everything from before the beginning of the song to now."

After a few more minutes and hearing Saki say 'Mama' once more, Marina stopped the video and saved it, smiling. "This is one for the keepsakes," she said.

3 nodded before looking at Pearl. "How did you teach her how to play the bongos?" She asked.

"I had brought them along to play them for her when she saw me slap them to make sound and she wanted to do the same," the singer said. "That kid's a natural. I can't wait to tell Callie and Marie!"

Marina laughed. "I don't know who's more excited," she said. "Yumi because Saki said her first word or Pearl because she not only got to witness that, but is excited about the little one being a natural musician."

"I think it's safe to say we're all excited," 3 said, hugging her daughter. "And I love this onesie. Where did you find it, Pearl?"

"Believe it or not, the stores that sell my merchandise all got together and decided to sell these onesies so that parents that are fans of me and the Squid Sisters would buy them for the babies and I told them that my niece just had to have one, so they gave me that one for free and I came right over to have her wear it," the singer said. "She looks so cute in it!"

"That she does," said the teal Octoling with a smile.

Saki giggled. "Mama!" She said, hugging her mother happily.

Agent 3 kissed her daughter's forehead. "How did I get lucky to have the most precious child as my daughter?" She said.

"Hard to believe she only came into our lives a couple months ago," said Pearl, having calmed down from her excitement. "But she's totally worth it."

"Yes, she is," the mother said with a smile.

The singer grinned. "When she starts crawling or walking, you better film it or else," she said without heat. "Cause I so want to see it."

"I will so that everyone can," Agent 3 said with a chuckle.

Marina laughed in amusement as the baby snuggled into her mother's hug, giggling too.

Okay, so the game scene is actually inspired by the Guitar Hero game. :)

If any of you feel Pearl is a bit OOC, I apologize, but I pictured her to be absolutely excited to teach Saki about music and to have Saki playing music too and bongos are a lot of fun. :) And the song is one I made up. :)
