To Jaune, his birthday stopped being a big deal once he got to college. Sure, his friends would wish him well, and he did the same, but he never expected a party, cake or presents anymore.

He really should have known better once he met Tyrian that wasn't going to be the case anymore.

It was innocent enough; Tyrian caught him filling out an application for the courses he wanted to take next semester, and his brows shot up when he caught sight of his birth date. "Why didn't you say it was so close?"

Jaune blinked, his own brow furrowed. "What? Oh, it's just a birthday, no big deal."

"No big deal?" Tyrian repeated, and sat up from where he was resting beside Jaune on the hood of his car. "Of course it is. Not everyday you turn twenty, you'll never be the same age again!"

Jaune grimaced. "Please don't remind me." Especially since Tyrian refused to disclose his own age still. "In fact, never bring it up again. I don't want there to be any fuss."

The other man leaned his head on Jaune's shoulder, tilting his chin to glance up at him. "Not even a little bit?"

Jaune knitted his brows together. "If I'm starting to know you better, it's not just going to be a 'little fuss'."

Tyrian gasped, placing his hand over his heart. "That's absolutely," he grinned, tail wrapping around Jaune's waist as he bumped their foreheads together, "true. You know me so well."

"I seriously doubt I'll ever really get you." Jaune sighed, and pushed the other man back a little. "Though if you promise to keep this just between us, you can make a big deal out of it."

Tyrian's grin widened, and he clasped his hands. "You won't regret this. I'd better start planning our night in."

"Now?"

"Of course, your birthday is in three days. That's not a lot of time."

Jaune stared at him. "What do you plan on doing that's going to take three days?"

Tyrian shrugged. "I have no idea. That's why I need to start planning now."

Jaune decided to stop asking more questions; this was only going to give him a headache.

Right now, Jaune wondered if he should have so readily agreed when Tyrian handed him a bandana and told him to cover his eyes. To not 'ruin the surprise', whatever that was. He'd been rather hush-hush about things. It was just maybe a bit impressive. Maybe that was why Jaune was here now, his eyes covered as Tyrian led him by the hand.

"Can you at least tell me where we are?" Jaune asked.

"Oh, very well, I suppose I can give a hint: we're in my apartment."

Jaune stilled. "Wait, what? Not only is that not a hint, why are we doing this here? Isn't that a bit...forward?"

Tyrian held Jaune's hand with both of his, giving the impression he was standing in front of the blond. "I wouldn't hurt you," he said with a startlingly soft voice, "but I chose to do this here because you said to keep this between us. And I couldn't use your dorm, as you don't want me to meet your friends just yet-so that was out. And keeping it private, a public place just wouldn't do either. Ergo, I settled on my home."

In another burst of insight, Jaune realized Tyrian wanted him to be comfortable. He just...went about it in a strange way. He could also walk away right now, but the blond came this far. 'And I am curious to what he's done for me.' he thought. "Alright, show me what you got."

Tyrian chuckled. "In due time, but your enthusiasm is appreciated."

Jaune flushed deep, because he realized how it sounded. "You know what I mean." he said indigantly.

"Yes, I know, but you just make it so easy to fluster you." The other man said, and continued leading Jaune further into the apartment-well, he assumed they already were in the building by now. Tyrian grabbed the back of Jaune's bandana, and tugged it loose. "Alright, you can look now."

Jaune blinked, both to adjust to the new surrounding, and to get his bearings on what he was seeing. The room was dark, but not without light from the dozens of candles lining the center of a table in the center of the room, while on one side rested a covered silver tray. Next to it were three wrapped presents. Jaune's eyes widened slowly, and he glanced at Tyrian, who was watching his expression. "You...did this all for me?"

The other man nodded, and tugged him closer to the table. "I must admit, I was unable to get a cake in time, but I did manage to buy twenty candles. And while I might not have cooked the meal, I did make it look nice. Will that suffice?"

Jaune let out an incredulous laugh. "Will that-yes, it does!" Gratitude washed over him, and he pulled Tyrian into a hug. "This is nice." he said softly.

The other man hugged him back, tail resting across the blond's waist. "It was never any trouble. I like seeing you happy."

Jaune pulled back just a little, and reached up to cradle Tyrian's cheek. He held his gaze, those yellow eyes reflected by the candles, and Jaune smiled. "Thank you." he leaned up, and closed the gap between them.

When the blond pulled away again, Tyrian's expression was stunned, and Jaune chuckled. He definitely wouldn't deny that it made him just a tiny bit happy that he managed to render Tyrian speechless for a change.
