Soon after Lena drops hope home Kara gets home as well. She had just come back from fighting a white martian who had come back from mars. She is all tired and burnt out when she gets a text from Lena. She looks around to make sure no one is around and then decides to read it out loud. She opens the text and reads.
"Hey, I'm at the DEO. I was hoping to talk to you about something, but I can't find you. Where are you? Kara reads out loud.
"Just went to get a snack, ill be right there." Kara reads while she is typing before sending her text and getting up and putting back on her suit even though she had just taken it off for the day.
"I guess supergirls' work is never done." Kara thinks to herself while rushing out the window on her way to the DEO. While she is flying all she can think about is two things.
"Why did I lie to her and not tell her I had just finished a big fight and had come home for the day because I was tired"? Kara thinks to herself.
"What does she even plan on telling me that was so important that she had gone to the DEO? She didn't even call me first. Why does she want me to rush over there so quickly she knows I'm not at the DEO anyways"? Kara thinks to herself thinking that maybe she will think of a reason even though deep down she knows the only way to get answers to her question is to ask Lena herself. She speeds up even faster after she realizes that if she had only left the DEO to get snacks she would have already been there by now. Kara gets there and sees Alex waiting for her, not Lena.
"Alex, what are you doing here"?Kara asks.
"Why did you tell Lena that you were only not at the DEO because you went to get a snack? Did you just happen to forget to mention that you had just gotten home after fighting a white martian? I told you myself to go home and get some rest. I didn't even want you flying home because you were so tired but you insisted that you were fine but here you are pretending that you have been here all day so you can talk to Lena."Alex says.
"Where's Lena by the way"?
"Oh, right, she is in the conference room waiting for you. She said it was important and didn't want to talk about it out here in the open for people to hear."
"Ok, thanks, Alex see you later." She leaves to go to the conference room to see Lena. When Kara meets up with Lena in the conference room, she immediately notices a serious look on her face.
"Kara, I don't know how to tell you this so I'm just going to straight up and say it ok"? Lena asks nervously.
"Ok, you're making me nervous. What's up"? Kara asks now, getting nervous as well.
"So basically, Hope told me that she had seen mon-el with another woman, and they kissed. He said if she told anyone you would be sad and that you wouldn't love her anymore because she had made you sad."Lena says summarizing the talk she had with hope earlier that morning.
"You want me to believe what you're saying."
"I'm not lying, kara. You have to believe me."
"How can I believe you after all of these years"?
"Your boyfriend's cheating on you. He threatened our daughter."
"Hope. Hope told you that"?
"She's terrified you won't love her anymore."
"She's my little girl. I will always love her."
"Tell me one thing, do you love him"?
"Yes."
"Are you in love with him"?
"No. I've never been in love with him."
"Then why are you with him"?
"He has been the only sure thing in my life. He stayed, choose me."
"I didn't want to leave you."
"But you did it anyway."
"Because I wanted you to live. While Lillian and Lex were alive, I refused to risk your life. I couldn't be the one who killed supergirl. That was just too big of a burden to carry. To have the death of you on my shoulders and for it to be my fault. I would rather you both be alive rather than me having my happiness and I would make the same choice again if it means keeping you safe. I will never risk your life. Or our little girls. I wanted to be there when she was born. Or when she first started to walk. I wanted her to call me mom too. I know I missed everything, and it hurts more than anything in my entire life."
Kara sits there for a moment thinking about what Lena says. She has a debate in her head and thinks about what to say.
"I know I believe her, but I don't want it to be true. Maybe there's still a chance that he's not a cheater and he is in love with me. Maybe there's an explanation for all of this, and we just don't know his side of the story. Maybe hope just imagined it like saw it in a dream and thought it was real. Or maybe Lena is lying and hope didn't even say any of these things. Maybe she just wants to drive a wedge between mon-el and me, so she can be the one to save us from him because she's jealous."Kara contemplates in her head then continues.
"Well, I know what I have to do. I'll go talk to mon-el to let him explain. If he tells me he has no idea what I'm talking about or looks and sounds confused I will know that Lena lied again for her benefit."
"Ok, thanks for telling me, Lena I will take over from here and look into it further."
Lena leaves before even saying goodbye. She's too busy thinking.
"Did she believe me? Is mon-el going to deny it and pin this on me? If it's his word against mine, she's going to pick his. He didn't break her heart."Lena stops her thoughts because she's starting to get worried and almost walked into a wall on the way out of the DEO.
Meanwhile, Kara pulls out her phone to text mon-el.
"Hey, can you come to the DEO I thought maybe we can go get some food"? Kara lies.
"Sure you're always hungry, aren't you"? Mon-el responds.
"Well, I did just fight I white martian and you were playing video games relaxing so I think I deserve a meal. Also yes, I'm always hungry."
"I'll be right over." Kara reads before putting her phone away and decides to go get the food she promised mon-el. She wasn't that hungry, but she knew that was the only way to get him to come over without raising the suspicion. Mon-el gets there soon after kara comes back with the food she picked up. Kara was stuffing her face trying to make it look like she was hungry. Mon-el was sitting there across from her trying to talk to her but all she did was look around thinking.
"In this very room, Lena told me that my boyfriend was a cheater and now I'm eating with him trying to figure out if he really is but I don't want to ask." Kara says to herself.
Mon-el sees her eyes drifting around the room. He thinks for a moment to try to figure out what to say that will get her attention.
"This doesn't have to do with Lena in any way, right? Lena left you once if you are starting to feel something again she'll leave you again. She made that mistake once, and she will do it again," He immediately realizes that bringing up Lena was not the best move in a relationship.
"Come on it's like dating 101 not to bring up your girlfriend's ex when you think something is bothering her at dinner."Mon-el thinks to himself but gets interrupted by kara.
"Mon-el, She wouldn't make that same mistake again. Kara says.
"Once she left you, she'll leave you again. She's a Luthor."
"Lena's, not her family"!
"Oh, really. So she did not do what her own father did. She didn't leave her child"?
"What's her name"?
"What are you talking about"?
"I'm talking about the women you cheated on me with."
"How do you know that"?
"Were you able to tell Hope not to tell me? Her own mother."
"It was Lena wasn't it"?
"It doesn't matter."
'Yes, it does matter. Lena's totally running our relationship, don't you see"?
"You're the one whos running our relationship."
"She left you, kara, for years. Do you really want to believe her? She doesn't need you. She's just bored. And as soon as you spread your legs to her again, she's going to leave."
"If you're so certain that she's going to leave again why don't you channel your inner Lena and leave. By the end of the week, I want everything that you own out of my house, or else I will burn it with my heat vision and that includes you. Kara flies out of the deo. By the end of the day, kara has been thinking for a while now.
"What did I do? Did I do the right thing? Who should I tell? When should I tell Lena? Should I tell Alex first"? All these questions came rushing through Kara's brain.
"Ok I'll tell Alex tonight and I'll tell Lena tomorrow when she's in her office. I don't have work tomorrow anyway." Kara tells herself while going to get her phone to call Alex. Kara opens her contacts and calls Alex.
"Ok so tell me everything because what I saw at the DEO didn't look too good but I couldn't tell. I don't have super hearing or x-ray vision like you." Alex says.
"Ok so basically Lena told me that mon-el was cheating on me and that she threatened hope by telling her if she said anything I wouldn't love her anymore. When I went to talk with mon-el, he told me that I shouldn't trust Lena and that she's just like her family and that was before I told him I suspected he was cheating on me. Then he brought up how she did exactly what her father did to try to convince me that lena is exactly like her family. Then I asked him what the name of the girl he was cheating on me with and he didn't even deny it he just asked how I knew that. Then I asked if he convinced hope not to tell me. Like come on, I'm her mother. Then again instead of denying it, he asked if I found out because Lena told me. I told him it didn't matter where I got my information because it was true and again he wasn't denying it either. Then he accused Lena of running the relationship. He asked if I could see it but I told him that he was the one who's running our relationship. He told me that she didn't need me. She's bored. Shell leave again blah blah blah. That's basically it." Kara tells Alex.
"Oh wow, that's a lot. Do you want me to come bring over some food to you and hope to make you feel better"?
"No, I'm just going to go to sleep. Oh, wait I forgot. I also kicked him out and told him to get all of his stuff out or else I would burn it with my heat vision. Then I added that included him. I can't believe I said that. Did I do the right thing"?
"Kara, you found out he was cheating on you, threatened your daughter, tried to pin it on your ex and didn't even deny it. I think you should have kicked him out sooner."
"So I was thinking about telling Lena tomorrow. While she is at work because I have the day off tomorrow but I don't know what to tell her. I know I wanted to tell her that I threw mon-el out, I want to tell her that I want her to be a part of mine and Hope's life, but I don't want to start fast, take it slow, I also kinda want to ask why she never got a girlfriend. Like come on she's the owner of a multibillion-dollar company. How could she not find anyone to date?
"Kara. 1 your rambling also why are you telling me this? It sounds like you know exactly what you want to tell her, so tomorrow go to her office and tell her that but don't forget to let her talk as well."
"Ok, I can always count on you." Kara starts to yawn.
"Well, it sounds like you should get to bed."
"Ok goodnight Alex."
"Goodnight." Kara and Alex get off the phone and both go to bed. In the middle of the night, Kara hears hope screaming. She gets scared and uses her heat vision on the door.
"Oops," Kara says to herself. She gets up and goes to check on hope. She finds hope sitting up in bed tears in her eyes.
"Baby what happened"? Kara asked
"I had a nightmare where mon-el was back in the house, and he was trying to kill you, I and Lena but Lena got in front of him and died. After that, you refused to come out of your room and I had to live with auntie Alex". Hope responds. Kara sat there for a moment then realized that hope was still sitting there about to burst into tears waiting for Kara to comfort her.
"It's ok baby it was just a bad dream you can go back to bed now," Kara says before leaving and going back to her own bed. While she's sitting there trying to fall asleep even though she's just staring at the ceiling she starts to think about hope's dream.
"Hope was so sad that Lena died. Lena is really important to hope. Maybe I should let us date. Well maybe we can start as friends and if we connect then we can go out." Kara thinks to herself before drifting off to sleep. The next morning when Kara wakes up, she flies Hope to school. Then she flies back home to get ready to see Lena. Kara goes into her closet and pulls out a brownish-orange shirt with a reddish brownish denim jacket. She puts on navy dark blue jeans with a brownish orange belt. She puts on the outfit she picked out, but it doesn't feel complete to her. She grabs a white and brownish-orange bandanna. She ties it around her neck. Kara puts on her glasses and puts her hair half up half down. She goes back and looks in the mirror again.
"Great, countryish but still fashionable. It doesn't look like I tried too hard but still looks good." Kara says to herself while walking out her door. She flies out the window all the way to Lena's office. She pauses outside and thinks about everything she told Alex she wanted to tell Lena today.
"Ok so, I threw mon-el out, I want her to be a part of mine and hope's life, but I want to take it slow. I want to start by being friends first. How did she not get a girlfriend in the last couple of years? Ok, so that's what I need to tell her before I leave this building again." Kara says to herself before going into the building towards Lena's office. Kara sees Lena's receptionist and walks up to her.
"Hi, I'm Kara Danvers. I would like to see Lena Luthor". Kara says to the receptionist.
"Ah yes, Miss Danvers. I was told to allow you to go ahead if you ever came by". The receptionist replies.
"Thank you, but I don't know where her office is, it's been a while."
"Ahh right of course right this way." The receptionist escorts Kara all the way to Lena's office. She opens the door for Kara, and she starts to feel like she's moving in slow motion. She forces herself to move faster and speak to Lena who is sitting on her sofa reading a magazine.
"Hi, Lena. I hope I'm not bothering you." Kara says.
"You never bother me, darling," Lena replies. While the receptionist quietly closes the door.
"I wanted to talk to you."
"Take a seat."
"I threw mon-el out.'
"Well, I can only congratulate you on that. He didn't deserve you, kara."
"And I'm here to tell you that I want you to be a part of hope's life. And mine, too."
"So I get a second chance"?
"That doesn't mean I'm sleeping with you right now, and we are where we used to be."
"I know."
"I was thinking we could be friends first. And let things work out from there."
"I think I can accept that, even though we both know I'm going to ask you out in 2 weeks."
"Can I ask you a question"?
"You know you can."
"4 years is a long time, how could you not find anyone"?
"I tried. Lots of one night stands. But none of them were working."
"Why didn't any of them work"?
"I can easily tell you why. Because there is a girl who stole my heart 5 years ago. My heart belongs to you, and only you Kara Danvers."
