The fight Arizona had been battling was a hard and troubled one. The blonde had gone through many awful things in life, such as losing her unborn child and having her leg cut off because of a tragic plane crash that had changed her world drastically. Many things had happened to her and Callie over the years, but nothing had ever weakened her body more than the battle she had been fighting with the dangerous disease. The virus had always seemed far away and about as harmless as the flu, but when it had reached their country and their hospital, the situation had quickly become scary and almost unbearable. The sight of her Arizona the night prior had left Callie with many heart wrenching nightmares that had woken her up with tears streaming down her face and a pain she had never experienced before. Unfortunately, waking up from her dream hadn't made the situation any easier, because she was living the nightmare ever since she had heard about her wife's terrible condition.

Meanwhile, the media had been reporting about Callie's sudden exit and some had even talked bad about her for leaving the team. The coach had decided not to share the reason with the public to grant her the privacy she had needed, but it had only made things worse. Fans had speculated why she had left and even brought up the Alysha Clark incident and this being the reason for her quick exit, but none of it had been true. Callie wanted to put an end to the speculations, but being there for her wife had been more important than fans she had never met before. The news and the fans hadn't been fair, but there was someone more meaningful to focus on. Her wife, Arizona.

Back at the hospital, the same fear from the night before had washed over the Latina. This time, it was even stronger. Callie had known the coma was only supposed to help Arizona's body, but her wife had never looked like that before and the image of her in that hospital bed with oxygen helping her breathe had torn her apart and broken her heart into a million pieces. The blonde had been exposed to the virus while trying to save others, and now she was the one who needed to be saved. Wandering through the hallways of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital where her partner had walked through all this time had now felt like going through the valley of death and pain. The brunette had walked beside her wife so many times, but now, she was walking alone. Painful tears had filled her eyes again when she had reached the ICU and she was scared of the news she would have to face, if there happened to be any. Walking closer towards the blonde's room, Callie had spotted a familiar face. Bailey had been standing at the reception near Arizona's room and looked at the tablet in front of her.

"Bailey?" Callie asked as she walked up to her.

Miranda had looked up from her tablet and smiled at the Latina. "Hey, how are you? Did you get through the night?"

"Barely." Callie sighed. "I had the worst nightmares of Arizona dying in front of me. How is she today?"

"Oh, sweetie, she's not going to die. We have to be positive. She's still the same as last night." Miranda said with a sad smile on her face.

The tears in Callie's eyes had returned and her lips had started to shake. "Oh, uhm, okay. I just...I'm so scared of losing her."

"I know, I know you are. Come with me." Miranda smiled and walked over to an on call room. When the brunette had closed the door behind them, Miranda had suddenly pulled her into a tight and loving hug, causing Callie to freeze.

"Shh, relax, honey. You need a hug and I couldn't care less about Covid right now. Besides, I get tested every day and my test from this morning came back negative, just like yours from last night."

The Latina let out a loud sigh and wrapped her arms tightly around the Chief. The mask she had been wearing had almost poked her eye during the hug, but she couldn't care less. Miranda had been right about her needing a hug. She had needed a hug so badly for weeks, but no one had had the chance to do so. Callie relaxed in the doctor's arms as her painful tears had streamed down her cheeks.

"She's going to be okay." Miranda whispered and stroked the young woman's back softly.

The brunette let out a loud sob. "I'm...I'm so scared!"

"Of course you are, you love her."

"I do."

The two women had hugged each other for a long time before the brunette had slowly pulled away from her. "Thank you." Callie smiled and looked into Miranda's soft eyes. "Of course. Now, let's get you ready to see your wife." Less than five minutes later, the Latina had put on her scrubs and a new mask and walked inside the blonde's hospital room. Arizona had still looked the same as the night prior and her face was still pale and emotionless. The young woman had walked closer to her wife and grabbed a chair again to sit down.

"Hey, baby. It's me, Callie." the brunette said and reached out for her hand. Arizona's hand had felt a little bit warmer than the night before and gave the Latina a feeling of comfort.

"I talked to our little girl this morning before I came here. She misses you so much." the Latina sighed.

"Honey." Callie's voice broke. "We need you to wake up."

Callie had looked at her wife with hopeful eyes, but there was no sign of movement or a reaction from Arizona. She was quiet, completely quiet and so, so far away. Callie's eyes had dropped to the floor and her heart had stung like never before. She had felt so awful and sorry for Arizona, but she had known there was nothing she could do to get her out of this fight. Callie had tried hard not to cry in front of her spouse, but the feeling of hopelessness had washed over her like a wave that would eventually drown her. She could be there for her wife and she could visit her, but it was Arizona who had to fight the battle.

About an hour later, Callie had been asked to leave the room to give her wife a break, but after begging the nurses to give her a few more minutes, they had agreed and left the room again. The Latina sighed and looked at the blonde.

"Before I go, I want to sing a song for you, Arizona. I know you have always secretly loved that, so I thought I'd sing to you now. I don't know if you can hear me, but if you do, this is for you." Callie whispered as her tears built up again.

"When the rain is blowing in your face

And the whole world is on your case

I could offer you a warm embrace

To make you feel my love

When the evening' shadows and the stars appear

And there is no one there to dry your tears

I could hold you for a million years

To make you feel my love

I know you haven't made your mind up yet

But I would never do you wrong

I've known it from the moment that we met

No doubt in my mind where you belong"

Callie's soft and beautiful voice had filled the quiet hospital room and even though there had been no background music, the whole room had filled with love and the atmosphere changed.

"I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue

I'd go crawling down the avenue

No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do

To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rolling sea

And on the highway of regret

The winds of change are blowing wild and free

You ain't seen nothing like me yet"

Callie had swallowed hard as she was about to sing the last lines of the song and suddenly, new tears had started streaming down her face and made it hard to sing.

"I could make you happy, make your dreams come true

Nothing that I...wouldn't do

Go to...the ends of the earth for you...

To make you feel my love

To make you feel my love"

Singing to Arizona had made Callie a lot more emotional than she thought it would make her. The amount of love she had felt during the song was unexplainable and she hoped that Arizona had heard and felt her love for her. Callie had grabbed the blonde's hand one last time and let it rest there for a while. It would take a day for her to see the blonde again and the thought of that almost killed her. The Latina was just about to get up from her chair to leave the room when she had felt a soft squeeze on her hand, causing her to freeze in shock.

"Arizona?"
