Chapter 9: The Battle of New York (part One)
Barry and the Avengers looked at the creature that was flying over the city.
"Guys." Barry said into comms "Tell me you're seeing this."
"Hell yeah." Barton replied "We're seeing this."
"Stark, you seeing this?" Steve asked
"Seeing." Tony replied into the comms channel "Still working on believing."
"Has anyone seen Banner?" Barry asked into comms
"Nope." Tony replied
Tony flew near the creature but he kept his distance, he didn't want the creature to spot him.
"J.A.R.V.I.S. find me a soft spot." Tony commanded as the creature smashed his way through a building.
Back on Stark Tower, Thor held Loki and made him watch the destruction of New York.
"Look at this!" Thor yelled to his brother "Look around you! You think this madness will end with your rule!"
Loki had a large look of shock and guilt on his face.
"It's too late." Loki said "It's too late to stop it."
"No Loki, we can... together." Thor said, looking at his brother
Loki then had an evil smile on his face as he took a small blade and shoved it onto Thor. Thor dropped Mjolnir and groaned in pain as he dropped on his knees.
"Sentiment." Loki said in an evil tone.
Thor jumped Loki, grabbing his head and pulling it down. He kicked Loki through the glass, Thor then picked up Loki and held him above his head as he threw Loki down on the ground as hard as he could. Loki groaned in pain as he rolled over the edge, leaving his Scepter behind, and fell a few feet before catching a ride on one of the Chitauri soldiers. Thor looked as Loki made an escape, he pulled the knife Loki had used to stab him from his stomach and threw it on the ground.
Barry ran all over the city as fast as he could taking out tens, maybe even hundreds of Chitauri soldiers. He kept phasing and running and phasing and running, he stopped when he saw Loki flying overhead and blasting bridges on the Chitauri flyer. Barry ran across a bus side as everything around him slowed down to a halt, Barry generated enough force while running to jump and catch Loki. Time went back to normal, in Barry's perspective, as he and Loki rolled over and over through the bridge. Barry looked up and saw Loki on the ground as they both got up to their feet.
"I didn't see that coming." Loki acknowledged
"That's the whole point." Barry said looking at Loki
"I must say Flash, you're faster than I gave you credit for." Loki said
"You know who I am?" Barry asked
"I do." Loki replied "and so does the man who sent me."
"Who sent you?" Barry demanded
"I wish I could tell you." Loki said "But maybe when I'm not busy ruling your world."
With that, the flying creature that had come from the portal came down with its eyes on Barry. Barry, out of impulse, sped himself out of there avoiding the creature. The creature wasn't as fast as Barry, but the Chitauri soldiers following him were fast enough to keep up. Barry kept running as he met a building. Instead of running up the building, Barry phased through the building as the Chitauri soldiers following Barry crashed into the wall and died out. Barry sighed with relief. Back on the bridge, Barton, Clint and Nat took cover behind a taxi, Cap looked at Barton.
"We got this." Natasha said looking at Steve.
Steve looked at Barton who was taking cover behind another Taxi 3 feet away.
"You think you can hold off these things?" Steve asked Barton.
"Cap." Barton said, loading an arrow "It would be my genuine pleasure."
Barton fired the arrow on the head of one of Chitauri. Steve jumped off the bridge as he rolled over on a bus, landing back on his feet and running 'til he jumped off landing on a car. As the car flipped over, Steve jumped at the last second landing on his feet away from the car. Back on the bridge, Barton and Natasha fired their guns and arrows at the Chitauri.
"This is just like Budapest, right?" Natasha asked looking at Barton
"You and I remember Budapest differently." Barton responded
Back on the streets, Barry ran as fast he could through the streets tearing the Chitauri on the ground apart one by one. Barry stopped as he spotted Bruce on a motorcycle.
"Bruce?" Barry called
"Do I know you?" Bruce asked
Barry pulled off his cowl and threw it back like a hoodie and looked at Bruce.
"Barry?" Bruce said in shock
"Yeah." Barry replied
"Nice outfit." Bruce complimented
"Ready for the party or what?" Barry asked
"I'm ready." Bruce said confidently
"Hey Allen." Barton said over comms "Who're you talking to?"
"Banner." Barry replied
"He's here?" Tony asked over comms.
"Right in front of me." Barry replied
"Alright, bring him to us." Cap commanded on the comms channel.
"Got it Cap." Barry said as he looked at Bruce "Ready to go?"
"Born ready." Bruce replied
"Okay.' Barry said as he put his cowl back on and sped Bruce all over the city until he found Cap, Barton, Nat and Thor.
Barry sped to a haly as he and Banner looked at Thor, Nat, Barton and Cap walked towards them and stopped a few feet in front.
"So, this all seems horrible." Banner said
"I've seen worse." Nat replied
"Sorry." Bruce apologized
"No, we could use a little worse.' Nat said
"Well Stark, he's here." Barton said into comms
"Tell him to suit up." Tony replied over comms "I'm bringing the party to you."
A few hundred feet away, Tony flew by a building as the Chitauri's flying creature followed. Everyone looked at it in shock.
"I'm sorry, I don't see how that's a party." Natasha said
"It is a party." Barry said "Just not our's."
"Well, you wanted me." Banner said as he walked towards the creature, who was getting even closer as it followed Stark.
"Dr. Banner, now might be a good time for you to get angry." Steve said
Bruce turned and looked at Steve.
"That's my secret Cap, I'm always angry." Bruce replied
With that Bruce turned green and grew large muscles all over his body. Hulk clenched his right hand into a fist as he punched the flying creature in its face, the creature's body flipped over its head.
"Hold on." Tony said as he fired a mini-missile into the creature's body.
The body exploded as Steve and Natasha took cover behind a taxi, Barry sped Clint to a taxi as they both took cover. Everyone formed into a circle looking at all the Chitauri. Suddenly, more creatures, like the one Tony had taken out, came from the portal in the sky. Everyone looked up at the portal.
"Cap, these things are gonna keep coming unless we close that portal." Barry said
"Alright, we need to get that portal closed." Steve said as everyone faced the portal that was coming for the machine on the helipad at the top of Stark Tower.
"Barton, I want you on that roof." Steve said pointing to the rooftop of a building nearby "Eyes on everything, call out patterns and strays. Stark, you've got the perimeter. Anything gets further 3 blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash." Steve was very precise and quick during his instructions.
"Wanna give me a lift?" Barton said looking at Tony.
"Yeah, hold on." Tony said as he grabbed Barton by the back and flew up away from the rest of the Avengers.
"Thor, you gotta slow down everything coming from that portal." Steve commanded as Thor flew away with Mjolnir to the top of another tower.
"Barry, you help Stark with that perimeter. Run through the entire city, destroy as many of these things as you can and do it fast." Steve said
"On it." Barry replied as he sped off in a flash of lightning.
"You and I are gonna stay here and get the civilians outta here." Steve said looking at Natasha as he looked at Hulk with confidence.
"..,and Hulk." Steve said as Hulk looked down at the soldier "Smash." Hulk smiled as he then jumped tens of feet onto a building taking out as many of Chitauri he could find, he then jumped across buildings to another taking out even more of Chitauri. At the same time, Thor reached the top of a tower that was nearby the portal, he summoned lightning with his hammer as he then focused it onto the portal. The creatures and Chitauri coming through the portal were fried by the portal, the creatures were fried and pushed back into the portal. Back on the rooftop, Barton fired his arrows at many of the Chitauri that were flying.
"Stark, you got a lot of these things coming at your six." Barton said into comms
"Yeah, just trying to keep 'em off the streets." Tony replied as he flew between the buildings
"Find a tight corner, let Allen do the rest." Barton suggested
"I will roger that." Tony said "Barry, tell me you got my-"
Tony was cut off by Barry coming in flashes of lightning as the 20 Chitauri soldiers following Tony were down.
"I got you." Barry said into comms
"Hey, that was awesome." Tony said
"I know." Barry replied into comms "That's how cool I am."
Barry ran through the streets as fast as he could.
"How many of these things are there around the city?" Barry asked "An army of 'em?"
"What's the matter, kid?" Barton said in comms as he fired multiple arrows at multiple Chitauri soldiers. "Never fought aliens before?"
"I have, it's just that…. there wasn't this much of a mess." Barry said
"What did you expect?" Barton replied as he fired even more arrows
"Barton, what else do we have?" Tony said in comms
"Thor's taking out the squadron down at sixth." Barton replied
"And he didn't invite me." Tony muttered to himself
Natasha picked up one of the scepter-guns and fired it at one of the Chitauri, she heard someone landing behind her. She turned and aimed the scepter-gun at the person behind, she saw Steve who was holding his shield in a defensive position as Natasha dropped the scepter-gun.
"These things are gonna keep coming until we close that portal." Natasha said as she reached for her ear to speak into comms "Allen, you think you can run up me up that building?"
"Yeah, hang on." Barry replied as he arrived in a flash lightning picking up Natasha and running up the side of Stark Tower as he put Natasha near the machine.
"Thanks." Natasha said
Barry nodded as he ran down the building walls and back into the fight on the streets of New York. Natasha looked down at Dr. Selvig, who had just gotten up after being knocked out cold.
"I know how to stop it." Selvig declared
"How?" Natasha asked
"There." Selvig said pointing to where Loki's Scepter was.
