"No," Miranda said turning on her heels and walking away. In her bedroom, she jerked open her drawers. Leave it to Kenny to bring the one guy in Seattle that had pissed her off.
Kenny walked in after her. "Why are you making so much noise?"
"I had to park in the parking garage."
"Oh, no, did the princess have to park in the garage?" He said laughing.
The surgery was one of the biggest ones she'd ever performed. And if she had been late, it could have dented her career. She told this to Kenny and he hugged her. She hadn't known that Ben was standing by the door. "I'm truly sorry," he told her. Kenny backed out of the room. "Can I make it up to you?"
"How?" She asked.
"Let's go out."
Miranda scoffed. "What?" She couldn't believe her ears. Why was this man asking her out? In her bedroom? At seven-thirty in the morning?!
"Go out with me. Let me make it up to you."
She put her hands on her hips and closed the distance between them. "Look, I'm sure you're a nice guy, but I have a boyfriend."
Ben tossed up a hand. "You could just say 'no,' you don't have to make up a story."
"Kenny!" Her brother came back into the room. "What's my boyfriend name?"
"E... lias? Elijah?"
"Damn it, boy. It's Eli." The three of them laughed at her frustration.
Kenny shrugged. "Now that you know my sister's taken, can we go?"
Though his smile hadn't really faded, Miranda thought she saw a little sadness cross Ben's face. He nodded and she walked with them to the front. "Maybe another time."
"Maybe."
