When I had awoken I was in my room, which was weird because the last thing I remembered was being in the main lobby with everyone else last night, drunk off my ass. Which actually gave me pause, I can get drunk? System, what's up with that? Shouldn't Gamer's body negate that or something?
Gamer's body does not inhibit toxins or other such substances from affecting your body, just as you can get poisoned you can be intoxicated. What the system can do, however, is heal you from the after-effects. Basically, you can get drunk without having a hangover the following morning provided you sleep.
Well I'll be damned, that's fucking amazing! I can drink all I want without any repercussions.
The system feels it necessary to inform you that addictions can still happen. If you drink too much you will receive the flaw: Alcoholic. However, any-and-all addictions can be removed provided you perform certain tasks.
I wasn't going to drink 24/7 anyways, just on special occasions.
I leaned out of bed and began to dress myself before making my way downstairs. I had no real goal in mind for today, maybe stroll around the town and do stuff before I had to meet up with Farengar for research into my abilities. That really bit me in the ass, why didn't I just say that I had access to a personal plane or something, like that one mini-boss fight in the labyrinthian? Whatever, what's done is done. Besides, if anything can come out of this I'll earn a lot of reputation gains and maybe some money too if I can. What's troublesome is that I don't know anything about magic, but maybe I can convince Farengar to teach me a few things, nothing monumental of course. Maybe a basic spell to get me on the right track, or perhaps a book or two on learning magic.
As I strolled through the city I let my wind wander, with no real destination in mind I kind of just roamed, passively avoiding anyone I crossed paths with as to not bump into anything. I contemplated going to the blacksmith for some armor, but ended up deciding against it. I don't need armor right now, and at this point I probably can't afford anything worthwhile anyways. Like Ebon-
….Ebony. Fuck, the Ebony blade is in Dragonsreach right now! It might not have mattered that much in the game, but this is real. Who knows what could happen if I just left the blade to do it's own thing after I leave Whiterun? Whiterun is really the only place I actually give a damn about in all of Skyrim, so what to do? I could steal it, but I don't have confidence in my lock picking skill to enter that room when only two keys were made to open the door kept by The Jarl himself and his trusted court wizard. Perhaps I need to build my reputation with either of them before breaching the subject. Going off of that the best course of action would be to stay in Whiterun beyond the dragon attack, perhaps a week or so should do the trick. Maybe joining the companions would boost that as well, something to think about.
Speaking of thinking I have done some of that recently. Thinking back on all the skills and abilities I have gotten, I was able to develop them through either using a skill/spell book, or through repeated actions. So, why haven't I gotten a skill for something like running?
Does that mean you should be rewarded a skill for breathing and blinking too? No, that would be ridiculous. The system does not reward the player for repeated actions if said action is something that the human body is naturally capable of doing. Skills are rewarded when you either use magic, perform an action that require outside interference such as a knife or sword, or otherwise gained through various quests or gacha.
I mean if the breathing and blinking skills were good I wouldn't mind them….
Despite the joking I can respect that reasoning, it wouldn't be much of an achievement if the actions I do are simple even if the system makes it ridiculously easy.
I ended up sitting on one of the benches in the square for the rest of the day. I just did some people watching. I also gave a little orphan girl 10 gold, which earned me some rep with said orphan and one of the mara healers who happened to see me doing it, and I also kinda-sorta-not-really paid attention to that Talos worshipper. What? I was bored.
I went back to the inn and ordered more mead and hung around, talked to the patrons and mingled with Hulda and Mikael, which in turn made Carlotta happy that I kept Mikael off of her again. I should talk to Mikael about that, but that's for later. After an hour or so of hanging around I excused myself to rest.
Another day had passed before I made my way back to Dragonsreach. I nodded to the two guards outside the massive doors as I walked inside, making my way passed the huge table and into Farengars lab. Walking inside I found Faendal and another random dude I didn't know. The stranger wore dark blue, almost black, magic robes. If I was seeing the design correctly then it was a master conjuration robe. The man also wore a magic hood, though based on what little I could see behind the hood and dulled green color hair, the man clearly was a high elf. Given the green skin and diagonally aligned eyes. The man was shorter than myself, though his elven heritage made him taller than most, sitting himself at a comfortable 6'1.
I made my way over to the two. Upon seeing me, Farengar introduced his companion to me. His name was Aldyron and he was a friend of Farengar's from his time at the College of winterhold who specialized in conjuration magic. He was here to both examine my abilities and offer any insight he could about how my power potentially worked, and also just to offer a different perspective to notes that either myself or Farengar made.
"Alright Warren let's begin with what you already know about your ability."
I nodded to Farengar and prepared a demonstration.
"Well, as far as I know I can store items into…whatever it is I'm delving into to store my items." I take out my quiver of arrows, "Whatever is put is stays in that condition when I take it out, and going off of what I've seen the items will 'stack' if they're the same. However I can choose to pull individuals of that item if I so chose to." I put the quiver of arrows back into my inventory.
Farengar wrote down what I said on his parchment. Nodding, then setting it to the side on his table. His left hand holding an alive rabbit , and a dead mudcrab in his right. Aldyron came around too, however he was shoving a rather large wooden box forward across the floor, him grunting with effort along the way. When him and the box reached us, Farengar set down the mudcrab down while handing me the rabbit.
"We have three tests devised to start; seeing if you can store something alive – and if so for how long, seeing if you can store dead organic life rather than just inorganic materials/man made objects, and to see if there's a certain weight limit to the items stored. We'll start off with the rabbit, followed by the dead mudcrab, and then finally with the large wooden crate full of iron ingots."
I nodded, holding the rabbit gently as I stroked its fur to calm it down somewhat. Holding it in my hand I activated my inventory, only for it to not work. My hand and forearm had indeed disappeared, but only for a moment before it quickly reappeared, rabbit in hand. Farengar recorded the result before gesturing me to continue. The mudcrab, unlike the rabbit, was successfully stored.
It was time for the last test, the large box. I placed both hands on the box before it disappeared into my inventory. Both Aldyron and Farengar looked rather excited at this success as they quickly discussed quietly in excitement. I waited 5 minutes before taking the box out of my inventory, only for the iron ingots to be missing. I frowned slightly before looking back into my inventory to see that the iron ingots had combined with my own. I quickly informed Farengar about what happened before he could become disappointed at the rather lackluster success. Once the box was full we grouped up to discuss the information gained.
Obviously we determined that organic lifeforms can only be put into the inventory if it's dead, otherwise the system outright rejects it. It also appears that there's no weight limit – at least not one discovered yet. But we know for a fact that it can hold the weight of a large wooden box full of iron ingots, even if it does separate them into different sections. Aldyron suggested that my inventory works as my own astral plane, acting as a sort of storage room for me to summon items from. I quickly agreed, if only so that the conversation of it's origin was over with so that I wouldn't have to talk about it anymore.
Farengar, however, looked less than enthused at the origin. If it was indeed an astral plane I was accessing then the common folk wouldn't be able to use this at all. I was about to try and console him before I was struck with a sudden inspiration. There's a quest in Skyrim that made you delve into Azura's star to defeat the soul of a wizard who managed to reprogram how the daedric artifact worked. If they can do that to a divine item, then surely Farengar, Aldyron, and I could do the same with regular soul gems.
"Farengar wait! I have an idea. What if we took soul gems and used magic to reprogram how they worked, change them to instead store objects rather than souls?"
The rest of the afternoon was devoted to the three of us devising ways in order for my plan to work. I left most of the planning to Farengar and Aldyron, as they were the more knowledgeable about the subject of magic than I was. By the time nightfall had come we had already drawn up plans to start our first attempt. This wouldn't actually happen till much later, we needed supplies and more colleagues to help. If it was just us three than it would take far too long to accomplish. Aldyron promised to talk to more of his college friends and contacts to see if they would offer to help.
We ended up doing some more tests afterwards, seeing if my inventory could hold food and if they retained their temperature once taken out, if my inventory could store thrown objects, and if it could store liquids such as water outside of a container. In short, it could indeed store foods and retain their temperature, no it couldn't store projectiles while they were moving, and it could not store water outside of a container.
I ended up leaving Dragonsreach well past nighttime, coming back to the inn at around 11 or so. I wished a quick goodnight to an over exhausted Hulda, which she groggily wished back, and made my way to my room before collapsing onto the bed, I turned my head to the side when I heard the sound of a ping.
+10 Affection/Rep with Farengar for participating in the tests (45/100)
+20 Affection/Rep with Aldyron for letting him be part of this discovery(0/100)
+15 Affection/Rep with Farengar for the soul gem idea (60/100)
+5 Affection/Rep with Aldyron for the soul gem idea (5/100)
Congratulations! For earning 50+ Affection/Rep with Farengar you have earned the following perk Magically In Tune
Magically In Tune: You are in tune with the magic inside your body, making it easier to manipulate and control. This doesn't increase your mana, but spells and other magic related skills cost half of what they are.
A great perk indeed, would be better if I had more skills related to magic but I suppose this will be a great foundation for developing my magical abilities. Half off of spells is just fantastic all around, both in the long and short run. My already cheap spells cost even less now, and higher tier spells will be less taxing on my magical reserves. That won't matter until later, but the thought is still nice. I closed my eyes and let sleep overcome me.
The next few days continued with the same old routine; chat briefly with Hulda and Mikael and then head to dragonsreach to research my ability further – if only for the sake of making up a more passable excuse to others whom I will have to explain this too, and brainstorming ideas on how to go about my idea to use soul gems as portable storage containers. I found that earning affection isn't as easy as it used to be before 50, Camilla's probably being an exception due to the high affection score coming as a result of both her affection being already below 50 and her emotionally vulnerable status. I can only speculate that the 100 affection/rep gains will be significantly more amazing than their 50 counterparts. So far I only managed to increase Mikael and Hulda's rep gains to 55 each, which gained me these:
Congratulations! For earning over 50 Affection/Rep with Mikael you have gained the following perk A bard's praise.
A Bard's Praise: Bard's who have over 30 Reputation with you will be more eager to sing your songs of glory, spreading your fame far and wide.
Congratulations! For earning over 50 Affection/Rep with Hulda you have gained the following perk Innkeeper
Innkeeper: Owners of inn's and other establishments of similar nature are more likely to grant you discounts if their affection is above 20. Affection above 60 guarantees a discount. If you're lucky enough to earn 90+ affection you will be able to stay for free.
Honestly the first perk is kind of meh, while useful in Skyrim it won't be useful to worlds that are past the medieval stage. Innkeeper by contrast is great. If it was just inns then it would also be meh, but the addition of other establishments of similar nature propel this perk from meh to great. I could potentially stay at a 5 star hotel for half the price if I was well acquainted with the owner.
Future speculating aside I was making my way up the stairs when suddenly I saw I heard speeding footsteps behind me. I turned around and barely managed to twist my body out of the way of a running, out of breath soldier as he dashed his way into Dragonsreach. I quickly ran after him, stopping briefly at the gate doors to say hello to the guards before I strode into Dragonsreach towards the soldier who was now kneeling in front of Balgruuf. Speaking of the Jarl I managed to catch his eye, and he waved me over. I nodded at the gesture and walked to his side.
"What's the matter Balgruuf, you looked troubled. Does it have anything to do with the soldier in front of you?"
Balgruuf sighed, his eyes glancing towards me showing thanks at my concern, before hardening in grim determination. His fists clenched at his sides as he spoke to me.
"A dragon was spotted near Whiterun."
