Luna had a huge smile on her face as she awoke in her Ravenclaw dormitory. She'd just had a wonderful dream where she and her friends were riding on the backs of Crumple-Horned Snorkacks as they frolicked through fields of flowers. The blonde witch glanced out of the window at the beautiful sunrise and the brightly colored autumn leaves swirling in the breeze.
Several moments later found Luna joyfully skipping down to the Great Hall for breakfast, humming a made-up tune to herself. "Hi, Luna!" a voice called. Luna turned around and saw Ginny Weasley running to catch up to her.
"Hello, Ginny Weasley," she replied in her usual dreamy voice.
"You're in an awfully good mood today." Oh, what am I saying? She's always in a good mood.
The redhead then looked down at Luna's bare feet. "Did someone steal your shoes again?" she asked.
"Yes, but it's okay," the Ravenclaw told her. "The floor's a bit cold, but I'm sure my shoes will turn up soon."
Not even the trek down to the dungeons for Potions class that morning could dampen Luna's spirits. She skipped into the classroom, ignoring the whispers and sniggers of the other students, then sat down in front of her cauldron and began humming to herself again while holding her hands up in front of her and tracing strange patterns in the air with her fingers.
Professor Snape walked into the room a minute later. "Class, today we will be brewing a Shrinking Solution. There are a few things one must keep in mind - Miss Lovegood! There is no humming or singing allowed in my classroom!"
Luna stared at him for a few seconds before saying, "You should smile more, Professor. It helps keep Wrackspurts away." A few of her classmates burst out in giggles.
"Silence!" Snape snapped at them. Turning back to Luna he added, "I will not tolerate you spouting nonsense in this class, Miss Lovegood. Ten points from Ravenclaw." Luna shrugged and went to work on her potion, humming softly.
Later Luna decided to spend her break outside; to the young Ravenclaw, the outside temperature was perfect - not too hot but not too chilly. She ran toward a pile of leaves near Hagrid's hut and jumped in. Luna lay on the ground and tossed the leaves around, giggling.
Meanwhile Ginny, who had volunteered to help Hagrid grow his pumpkins, was walking toward his hut. "Hi, Hagrid!" she called. The large man came around his hut from the garden.
"All righ' there, Ginny?" he replied, grinning. Just as the two were about to start working, they heard giggling nearby; they spotted Luna playing in a pile of leaves. The sight made Ginny smile.
"Bit strange, tha' one, ain't she?" Hagrid commented.
"Yeah," replied Ginny, "but she always has a positive attitude." At that moment the blonde sat up and smiled dreamily at the pair.
"Joy is such a wonderful emotion, don't you think?" she said.
"It sure is, Luna," the redhead answered before following Hagrid into his garden.
